    I had this scapular winging when I was very young, around age 7, and my parents brought me to a Hilot (Filipino chiropractor) to put the scapular back in place. He did a certain movement and snapped it into place. Never had an issue with this since and I'm almost 60. Never had to do any exercises to keep it in the right place.

    Thank you for all of your detailed and carefully explained videos on scapula winging!
    I am very self-conscious about my ugly scapula. I have an athletic physique and good muscular proportion, but my scapula really make my back look ugly when I am not flexing.
    I played rugby union for 10 years and was well known for my tackling, but as a result I did suffer a lot of rotator cuff impingement and "stingers" (when you tackle someone really hard and the neck, face, arm, and upper body on the side of the tackling shoulder go numb).
    On top of this, I did boxing, wrestling, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, bodybuilding, and powerlifting all very successfully but with scapula winging. I now realise that for all my years of sport and physical training, I neglected my scapula entirely as I just thought I had genetically ugly scapula.
    I feel that maybe I have some serious underlying issues with my scapula and serratus anterior (perhaps even nerve damage) given my poor shoulder mobility, cracking, and sharp tearing feelings on occasion.
    Do you believe that my scapula are just ugly and beyond repair, or is there still a chance for me to fix them at 27-years of age? I am terribly self-conscious about them (so much so that I do not like taking my shirt off at the pool, beach, etc.), and I have always really focused on training my back heavily to try and fix my ugly scapula.
    Any help from you would be truly appreciated as it is terrible for my self-esteem, and I am worried that my scapula may cause issues as I age.
    Many thanks all the way from Tasmania, Australia!

    Please give me a few exercises to fix this. I have exactly the same thing with a thoraxic nerve palsy, but its about 2 years ago that it was as bad as this. My physio therapist had no idea what scapular winging is and just gave me like 20 exercises which might have been just something random. So mobility-wise I have no problems anymore, but you can still see it a little bit that the right scapula is further in. I can feel it when I do exercises like the bench press that I just cant lie symmetrically on my back. So what should I do if I havent done any exercises targeting my scapular winging in quite a long time?

    I'd love to see your treatment of this too.
    Also, does she have any thoracic scoliosis? I've wondered if there is a connection to a winging shoulder blade and scoliosis too. For example, if someone has a right thoracic rotation, then perhaps their R scapula will wing off more than the opposite side? What do you think?

    • @physiorehab
      @physiorehab  8 лет назад +1

      Certainly - if you have a scoliosis or a rotatory scoliosis it may wing the scapula on that side. This lady did not have a scoliosis - she has a nerve palsy to the long thoracic nerve that feeds the serratus anterior - which is recovering but a nerve palsy takes up to 18-24months

    I've had a winging scapula for the past year. Whenever it "sticks out", it pushes my shoulder forward and irritates the bicep tendon, causing pain and numbness in my bicep. I've tried a lot of things to fix it, wearing a brace, stretching my pecs and all the muscles that attach to the shoulder blade, I've been doing exercises to strenghten the lower traps, rhomboids, serratus. I go to the gym regularly and have been focusing more on back movements, rows to hit the midback, making sure my scapula is retracted during these movements. Despite my efforts, there is litte to no progress. Any suggestions?

    Hey! Currently my shoulder hurts when I externally rotate (for example, if I was to do the classic double bicep flex, my shoulder would hurt), when I fully stretch my shoulders raising my arms above my head, and if I lift my arm up and slowly bring it down, my arm starts to feel weird (not necessarily hurting) about half way down. Do these 3 symptoms sound like scapular winging? Thanks!

    • @physiorehab

    • @poejavelski148
      @poejavelski148 Год назад

      @@physiorehab I’m thinking it could be impingement, although it’s a lot better now. It’s kind of an ongoing thing where it only hurts maybe once a year, for the most part doesn’t bother me, but certain positions are awkward for my right arm. I think it goes back to a few years ago from a bench press injury tweaking it. If it comes back and is really bothering me I’ll probably get it checked out, for now it’s fine though. The fact that it healed in about a week through doing light weight movements shows it’s probably not super serious.

    I had strained my left shoulder. I take pictures for my school. My camera weighs 13 pounds. I'm fine right now, but when I start using my camera more than one day it hurts. There's one spot if you touch, I have pain and sometimes tingling. There's times that It goes to wrist. The our athletic trainer (I'm girls basketball manager, which I take pictures for them) he Sid it spazed. My camera strap had soft lining on it. What can I do, I'm doing pictures almost every day during school. Especially during basketball season.

      no he explains the scapula is not firing complete motion when you rise your arm, due to lack of communication of one muscle serratus anterior and his nerve, just sports performance will be a little moderate in that arm

      Try physical therapy. If that doesn't work, then you probably damaged your long thoracic nerve, which is what happened to me. If so, then you'll need low level laser therapy (also called cold level laser therapy). A lot of doctors, chiropractors, and physical therapists are now offering it. veterinarians also use it. I know there is a link between shoulder impingement and scapula stabilisation, but which one causes which? Does a lack of scapula stabilisation lead to shoulder impingement because the rotator cuff muscles can't control to humerus correctly, or does shoulder impingement lead to a lack of scapula stabilisation?

    • @MP-wn7ue
      @MP-wn7ue 5 лет назад +1

      Since the arm in the socket of the shoulder isn't functioning well and thus hurts, this is caused by scapular instability.
      So looks like this:
      1. Scapula is not stable
      2. Thus ball in socket doesn't move well
      3. You feel the pain

    A way to pop this b@stard if it's giving you h €ll...... 1st stretch your shoulders in every direction, then grab a long bungee cord(or exercise resistance band), and loop the band around a ceiling beam (something similar), then with both hands on opposite ends of the band, swing and rotate your arms backwards and upwards in a rotation movement until you hear a couple of loud pops.....instant relief.

      Jimmy, that could be impingement of your rotator cuff, or a list of other things.. i have both a winged scapula, and an impinged rotator cuff.
      Go see an orthopaedic doc, if possible, and ask to get an MRI prescrbied. Those scans will show abnormalities, in every layer of your shoulder.
