I have a torticolis and a tense neck on the left side. I just realised when I do some stretches the left shoulder blade pops up. The movement shown at 3:10 really helped me to decompress my tense left neck and left shoulder trapezius. I even put my elbow on a wall next to a door to help with the movement. The relief was equivalent to a massage and unfortunately in this region of the body most of the regular stretches don't help . My left trapezius is not sore anymore! Fantastic. I can turn my head to the left with more range that before .

@@shriyyyyy1742 It ends up I did not pursue this regimen. My winged shoulder blade does not hurt. When I began the stretches and exercises my elbow started to hurt (I've had tendonitis before in my elbow) and so I aborted the attempt to fix the winged blade. I am 58 years old (read here, temperamental body) and would like to have balanced muscle groups. It makes sense, but I don't think it is going to impact my life that much to go around with a winged blade. The pain in my elbow seemed like a worse outcome for me as I surf etc... If I were you I would try it for sure and see how your body responds. Best wishes.

Hi, I had a car accident years ago and had surgery c5-6 and 6-7 fusion, which I consider very successful but maybe once or twice a year my levator scapula gets tight and lasts for weeks. I have been out of shape for a while, and so I was looking for ways to strengthen that muscle and tone it up and keep it toned. Anyway, I came across this video and I thought I knew all the stretches by now, but this stretch I had never done before, and immediately I felt the stretch and it's the best stretch I ever had for that, and I had a year of professional physical therapy and they never showed me this stretch. I want to thank you so much, and let you know I am feeling improvement already after only just finding this video last night. My question though, do you have a video for strengthening that muscle though? I'm 51 year old female and could really appreciate an exercise to do a little each day to strengthen that up because I have found the best way to stay pain free us to keep your muscles strong, but how can you exercise levator scapula though? If you already have a video for this, what's the title, otherwise, that would be a great video to do. Seems like such an obscure muscle to try to isolate to strengthen it. Again, thanks so much for the stretch. I really thought I knew all of them. I'm amazed at how deep the stretch was, you're fantastic, a million thank you's!!!!👍👍😊😊

Finally can raise my hand / arm above my head in a straight line , no pain. That was done in 2-3mins
I'm going to do this as my morning routine,

So this is awesome…. FYI… I had snapping scapula syndrome, and winging scapula… I didn’t know why when my shoulder rotated it clicked… but I’d put pressure on the outside of my lat where my shoulder was while I rotated my arm ? And it was gone!! So I knew it had to be within the muscles or joints…
I slowly started to do these stretches. And at first it hurt like not in a good way… it would go from I can’t feel it I can’t feel it to … OMG my nerve is pinched owe… but I got used to it.
I’d stand like a ref doing touchdown pose and I’d walk under a door and then lean down toward the floor…. And it burrerrrrrnnnnsss. I’ve been doing this for 3 weeks… I have less clicking and my movement is better.. my posture hasn’t gotten better unless I think about it and fix it…
Posture causes this though guys. So don’t think I’m going to stretch it away and go back to slouching my shoulders and slumping everywhere I go… and the worst for it??? Putting your arm and hand on your head like watching tv and laying flat..

Hello Dr Rowe, thank you for the video, I have this problem on my left side, when I where my back-pack, it always feels uncomfortable (on left side), when I look in the mirror the bottom of my shoulder sticks out, hopefully this will sort out the problem.
I also have a problem involving my left bottom back to hip (my hole left side is stronger than my right side), when I do any core excises (with movement), not planks, and hollow body, my left side aches, I cannot do leg raises, because the left side will click, can you recommend any excises to fix this problem?
    Thank you for your time.

I was born with round forward shoulders and blades stick out "Hunchback" I'm 38, I've learnt to deal with it, but now, I'm into fitness and working out I'm bulking up and losing my gut (Alcohol gut) skinny fat ...
I'm just wondering what do you think about hanging pull ups for helping with straightening shoulders/back?
By that I mean - you grab a pull up bar, rather then pulling yourself up you just hang there in the one spot as long as possible?

I have been to several PTs for winging scapula over the years. Nothing helped. Not one of what you talked about were exercises they had me try. However, I do have several other problems with the same right shoulder, bursitis, osteoarthritis, calcium buildup, degenerative shoulder. The problem is that I have hEDS too. No orthopedic shoulder surgeon will do surgery. 1. They do not believe a scapular surgery will help. Mainly because of nerve and ligament damage. 2. I recently found out that surgeons do not like to do surgery on folks like me~ hEDS : hyper mobility form of EDS. It’s a connective tissue disorder. I’ve been told to strengthen the surrounding muscles. The ligaments are over stretched. Do you have any weight bearing exercises for this type of instability? Thanks. P.S. I just watched this video of yours so I’ll focus on these for now and careful not to over stretch.
