Abso-F'n-lutely. You can't even remotely compare those two cars. the GT4 is at another level of engineering, refinement, balance. ZL1 has the engine in the wrong place.
@@truthserum5310 I appreciate that, but I already knew it was a fantastic car, I guess I should’ve worded it better. Your answer may still be the same, that’s just the situation I’m in. Cheers
@@leea4624 IMO it is totally worth it if one is financially able to. The GT4 doesn't have the low end torque, and high horsepower as the ZL-1, but driving excitement, and precision engineering is leagues above in a GT4, or any Porsche Flat 6 Cayman, Boxster, 911 Sports car for that matter.
@@leea4624 The bottom line is, the ESSENCE of a TRUE Sports car is Mid Engined, Light, and with a manual transmission. The Cayman/Boxster line delivers on all fronts.
Not only is the price insane, but that's not even counting the hoops at the dealership you would have to jump through to even get an allocation. Objectively speaking there are so many more better options in the fast coupe segment: The Corvette C8, The Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye, The Mercedes AMG GT, The Nissan GTR, and The BMW M8 just to name a few.
I think Porsche is making a big mistake. I want my everyday car to be electric but for my Sunday morning drive, I take my 718 Spyder out to enjoy the sweet sound of that flat 6. Making this little sports car electric will kill that character and thrill. Nobody asked for this car to be electric.
These were all spoken for already including the Spyder. I got one of the very last few new 2023 Spyder. There might be one or two inCalifornia asking $40-50k over msrp.
If you track your car a lot and want a manual, GT4 is one to go for. Otherwise, spyder is a better car with a better look and "optional" removable roof.
I wish you would have reviewed the 2021 Lotus Evora GT w/carbon fiber pack. Same weight and HP, but hydraulic steering in the Lotus. Would of liked your opinion between the 2 since they are so similar.
I test drove both the base model 718 and the GT4 and I actually prefer the base simply because it allows the driver to utilize all six gears without breaking the law. My goal is to have fun driving a 6 spd stick, not driving a 6 spd stick that you only use up the fourth gear.

You have very good taste Tom!
This car still available and which car dealership? Thank you Raiti
Hey Joe great review, I had a 2016 Spyder that I miss dearly, do you like Porsches enough to ever own one some day? They are truly great drivers cars!!!
Like the sounds!
The GT4 manual is the sweet spot. Yes, the PDK is faster but the manual is so satisfying and engaging…go for the manual
What about the GT4 RS?
@@andremakris3061 The 4RS is a different beast. The GT3 engine on the mid-engine platform is sublime. Not a daily driver, though; its suspension is a little bit to stiff
Yup they want everybody in bumper cars!!!!
Very close to one of the best sports cars ever built. Notice I said “sports” cars, not “supercars”.
It isn't a super car
Its simplicity is elegant as far as looks.
Nice review Joe. As a former owner of a Cayman S, I will admit it is a fine car. Didn’t care much for the engine noise right behind my head. A great handling car for sure, but I would not trade my 911 for it. Thanks 😎
The Cayman gt4 is sooo tiny. Seeing it in person you can really see it. On camera you can't tell how tiny it is
This is true
I want this for the cd player mostly
Oh heck yeah!
Come on Powerball 🤞
What colors does it come in ? Pearl White or Silver would be classy.
This is undoubtedly one of the greatest sports cars of this era! If I ever get a lot of money this is the sports car I want ❤️
Ever since Porsche started to mass produce, they got a zonk from me. Soccer moms now drive porsche suvs. Corvettes are going down the same route. Once an incredible machine, the c8 is a boat and soon will be an suv as well.
Love this car. Cause its smaller. Almost all manufacturers have gone larger on the vehicles. Sometimes to much. But this and the rs3 kept the smaller footprint. And under 3500lbs And good look point out of the looks
Joe and I have the same eating and drinking in the car policy
Great minds think a like
Love it beautiful review, beautiful car thank you!!
Are these black rims? Felt a bit brighter than the usual
They are satin black.
Thing is a little beast
Joe-for the increase in price, would this be worth getting out of a ZL1 if you could only keep one car?
Abso-F'n-lutely. You can't even remotely compare those two cars. the GT4 is at another level of engineering, refinement, balance. ZL1 has the engine in the wrong place.
@@truthserum5310 I appreciate that, but I already knew it was a fantastic car, I guess I should’ve worded it better. For me, it’s a super expensive car, so is it worth making a pretty big jump in price vs what you’re getting? Is it twice the car, since it’s twice the price?
@@truthserum5310 awesome! Thanks for your take sir.
How tall are you? I'm 6'5. Will I be able to fit in the car?
It’s a two seater with plenty of leg room also no moonroof so head room is good too. I’m 6’1 and don’t feel cramped.
Is there any U.S. race tracks that have a Porsche Experience ?
Wouldve loved some POV for this on Throttle
I know how you feel! Thank you for the feedback
This is one of the few cars that I would trade my 370Z for.
I sold my 2013 nismo Z to make room for my 718 GT4
Trade plus $50K
I think Porsche is making a big mistake. I want my everyday car to be electric but for my Sunday morning drive, I take my 718 Spyder out to enjoy the sweet sound of that flat 6. Making this little sports car electric will kill that character and thrill. Nobody asked for this car to be electric.
Do you like this better than your gt350r?
I own both. They are both great, but I have to say the gt350r is more exciting to drive.
@@Brakelate879 I agree. Drove the boxster spyder. I love my gt350r better. I have a spyder rs on order. Hope it’s better.
@@philipc3153 I’m sure the RS will be a totally different animal.
This baby Porsche is a great car but is not the Porsche I would buy.
Which one is the one you would buy
That's the yellow interior accent missing on the anniversary 4Runner
These were all spoken for already including the Spyder. I got one of the very last few new 2023 Spyder. There might be one or two inCalifornia asking $40-50k over msrp.
Oh wow that is crazy!
If you track your car a lot and want a manual, GT4 is one to go for. Otherwise, spyder is a better car with a better look and "optional" removable roof.
Love it!!!
