Gary speaks in lavender linguistic, hence why IB asks him in the safe room “why do you talk that way?” He was also drawn in a Kimono by Kouri (the dev) with a comment quoting “wanting to cross the barriers of gender”. the last remark “girls can be scary” was more like a confirmation. Although in real life we talk randomly with no specific meaning behind it, in movies and games, scripts and dialogues are a lot more INTENTIONAL, if a line doesn’t have much meaning behind it, it’s usually scrapped, specially the ones which could raise an eyebrow.
@@gamersault I still don't think that means Gary is gay but rather gender non-conforming or even non-binary. The way one dresses/talks doesn't always relate to their sexuality. Specifically the line "cross the barriers of gender" would lean heavily towards Gary's personal gender not preference of relationship. edit: this isnt to say gary being gay is a problem (as part of the lgbt myself) but rather i think you are looking at the hints the wrong way.
I love this game, i love the story and i love it's still being remembered. Also it's is 9th "birthday" so it's fitting

So ur going after the classic Jrpg maker games now? Just know that doing Witch's house is more work cause they wrote a manga on its backstory. (Not to mention that there's like 10 endings in Ib, some focus on the different demises of her companions)

@@gamersault well the manga covers the backstory leading to the game, while playing on hard mode for the remaster version can give you some of that backstory. You may have to do three videos, one explaining the manga backstory, but the game literally have two endings that slightly changed depending on grabbing the final item during the final chase, so one on the story and ending and one on the manga. Also, you can learn a secret if you beat the game without dying nor saving, as its technically part of the canon (you can learn another secret if you ignore the note that would of told you to not get distracted, as its message won't apply if you ignore it the first time around)

Its possible that the gallery acted on its own and choose Gary and Ib to eitherr let Mary out or gain new friends
@@ladylunaginaofgames40 well, the Gallery couldn’t control itself with the person/puppet in it place. One of the endings, Mary was trapped in the dark void that the gallery that punishes her for not take a person in her place when she’s left that world. Or she’s doesn’t know it would backfire on her.
She was busy for the right person to show her the world outside of the gallery. But, she’s need to get two person, one of them will be left behind & the other one show her the world.
I guess it have a sub conscious, when ever Mary want to leave without someone taken her place it’s will get alerted about it.
We don’t know about it. The Gallery World seems to be vague, even Gary didn’t know their something controlling the other half of the Gallery, beside Mary.
The way the knocking sounds played in my headphones made me think someone was at my bedroom door behind me... and at the window beside me. The difference in the way these sounded on either the right or left also made one sound like a door knock and the other like someone tapping the window...
As I am NOT on the ground floor... this terrified and confused me until I paused the video, looked around, asked my room-mate if they also heard the knocking... and then I resumed the video. The stereoscopic audio tech in this game/video is impressive to say the least.

I was with this until that "Girls are scary so he must be gay" thing. felt a little weird. I believe it was just a comment after being attacked to lighten the mood a little for Ib as she is still young.
I also thought it slightly alluded to the horror trope of evil little girls

Yeah, guys finding girls scary is a comic relief trope for the most part. Is Shikamaru incestuous because he thinks his mom is scary? Or perhaps it's gay incest, and him finding his mom scary means he is attracted to his dad? Shikamaru does show close connections to the father figures in his life... Did Ib ever greet anyone in this game? Did she say "hey" instead of "hi"? Because you know that means she's a lesbian, right?
Is Nishikata gay since he likes to read shoujo manga? Seriously.. we are way too trigger happy for homosexual coding.
The thing about Ib unable to read certain words, because the creators were japanese, most of the words that Ib cannot read are kanji.
I know girls can be scary sometimes, but I don’t think that was an indication that Gary is homosexual. Just saying.
I believe Gary leaned more of being gender neutral or they don’t conform to being exclusively male.

@@sakiamira the fandom wiki page does say "kouri has stated that Garry is "someone who’d like to cross the barriers of gender." He was also drawn in a women's kimono multiple times. This is evidence that Garry is someone who values gender nonconformity" so your probably right
@@eridanampora3024 yeah I remember that. I did remember that this game was made before terms like “gender neutral” or “gender fluid” were commonly known so the only way to describe Gary’s unique way of presenting their gender was “no confines to a specific gender” at the time
while i agree that just the one comment that girls are scary doesn't mean he's gay, there's a lot of other things in the game that suggest garry is either gay, non-binary, or just likes breaking gender norms. In the original japanese text he speaks in feminine speech patterns (i don't speak japanese so i'm unsure of the significance of this but he says "atashi" when referring to himself which is apparently very common for gay men in japan???? and also this game was made like 9 years ago so stereotypes were much more common) kouri has also said on his blog that garry is a person who enjoys breaking gender norms (this doesn't mean he's gay, but i'm not sure what kouri's opinion of gay people is so thats up to speculation) i'm not trying to defend the weird common you made i'm just giving more context to that theory that (at least when I first played ib when i was like 13) was definitely pretty common in the Ib fandom. Garry was also my favorite character of all time for like 2 years, so I have done wayyyyyy too much internet searching about him. But also it doesn't matter too much because it's the speculation of a video game characters sexuality lmao
Really enjoy how you’ve been going over all the classic pixel rpg horror games! Witches House, Crooked Man, Stray Cats Crossing and Corpse Party are definitely a few good ones to eventually check out!

I KNOW RIGHT, I completely agree, but the game actually explains itself really well at the end, so I don't really see a reason why he would do a video on it, but I would still LOVE to see him cover it

The Witches House True ending breaks my heart but its a bit like Mad Father in a sense. The true ending is the bad ending and the bad ending might be a good ending.
Witch's house just made me sad like mad father. The plot twist is amazing too.
Aya becoming like her father and the main character (forgot the name) in witch's house actually being helen inside of the MC's body and MC being in Helen's legless body

I have a very unique experience with Ib when I first play this game. It has been so long, but each time I look back inti this game, it still leaves me a very special emotion, a sad one. All of the endings (include the considered "happy ending") give me a sense of loss.
All of these rpg horror game need to come back.

This was so surreal to pop on my page today. Ib was my all time favorite game in my middle school years, and my first cops play was of ib herself. I loved the mysterious aura that it brought forward. And every time I go to an art gallery I still hope I will get whisked away by another force. I still draw things to this day revolving around this one, and I think I always will. SO thank you for my daily reminder that Ib is my ultimate memory

I had such a big crush on Garry when I was a teenager. When I went to a con there was a Garry cosplayer and I struggled to not fangirl 😆
This brings me such good memories, I remember drawing fan art of this game, the story is quite unique and I found it really cute how the relationship with Ib and Garry was at the end. I really enjoyed this video. ❤️

Gary probably isn't gay or "non-binary" he just doesn't follow gender norms which makes sense in Japan when a man straight or not doesn't want to be manly. We are seeing it through a Western lens when this game is Japanese. They want to break gender stereotypes unlike the new movements of the West which only make them stronger, for example, "You are feminine so you must be non-binary, trans, etc" instead of just a straight man liking different stuff that has nothing to do with who they find attractive or their sex.
Ooooh I would love if you tackled Mermaid Swamp next, also made by the same people. I think it's definitely one of their creepiest ones

Great video, just wanted to point out that in Galette des rois. Rois is pronounced "roa" as it is a French word for kings. Also it is a real tradition in France and other countries in Europe with a Christian based culture ✌️
This game was my introduction to horror RPG Maker games, and still is one of my favorites. I was happy to have played this blind the first time.
Every time, *e v e r y t i m e* there was a knocking sound, I thought someone is knocking on my window! That scared the life out of me. *Noting* in the game itself managed to startle me like that even once

Nope. Because some word in Japanese is kanji and those is very hard for a 9-year-olds child in Japan. Kouri, the creator of Ib, come from Japan.

One thing though, having in mind the developer is Japanese, I think that Ib not being able to read some words is because they are probably complicated Kanji she doesn't know how to read yet
After playing though the remake, all I can say is that the graphics are dramatically improved.

Oh yeah when it came to the story of the coin when the lil girl said she found the key it meant that the lil girl went to her friend and "Cut her gut open" to get back the key for her mom.

I was wondering if it was relevant to mention that Garry may be homosexual based on his remark that "girls can be scary"? It came out so suddenly. I personally didn't think it could imply anything but I may have missed something so I was waiting for an elaboration but one never came in this video.
