I think perhaps the point is that we should not be editing round such an obvious optical issue on a brand new product. I have spent many years in my career of editing and whilst you can often edit round poorly shot or technical issues it gives you a sub optimal result. The point of shooting material is to give the editor as much good material to create the desired story. Starting off with limited usable material does not give a great end product, it gives a usable end product which is not the aim. I have sent one last email to Hubsan support to see if they will own this issue. Yes we can fit filters and paint reflective surfaces or fit a lens hood or a number of other things but Hubsan, as the supplier of a brand new product should own and fix the issue. So far their two responses to my questions have been a polite fob off. Hubsan need to engage with the issue, not hope it goes away. As always Chris thank you for your time. Without your honest videos we all would be much the poorer.
Do you know how to fix a Gimbal Angle Sensor Failure on the original Zino? The reset didn't help it. (I crashed it and it's been giving me the 0X2000 error message ever since).
I agree that this is the way to show what can be done. I never, ever let anyone see the failures I had when I was shooting for newspapers and magazines. People don't hire photographers that say "oops", and whenever I was asked "How good are you?" My reply was always, " I'm the best there is. " All those perfect shots you see in the advertisements were one in a thousand. It takes work to produce a great finished product. That waterfall sequence is fantastic.
Flare is particularly caused by very bright light sources. Most commonly, this occurs when shooting into the sun and this can be reduced by using a lens hood other shade or filter.
Chris! Thank you for your precious input on the Zino 2. Almost 4 months after my pre-order, I just canceled my Zeno 2. Based on your thoughts about this product, postponed shipment dates and gearbest lies I made up my mind. I'm sure you save me a lot of headaches. Thank you sir.
Well now I feel much better. Glad I have not canceled my order. Filters will help as well and there is a 4 pack of filters for the Z2 that is available already. Looks promising to me. Thank you Chris for your continued work with Floyd, I know I really appreciate it. Still anxiously awaiting my Z2. Must think of a cool name...like you did. Take care..
Chris where you get the UV filters for Zino 2? In video you say you have one from fimi x8 se and after you say you have now also one from zino. Where you get from?
Great video Chris. Love the water fall climbing. How low were you actually? Cant wait to see the result of the painting. Waiting until things calm down with the virus before I order from Hubsan.com. Wonder how long it will take them to upgrade the camera issues.
hello Chris greetings from Germany. I fly the Zino Pro . but I ordered Zino 2. what do you say, cancel at Gearbest or is the bird not so bad for you? the filters are simply from the fimi x8se? LG Thomas.
Thanks you Chris! I do feel you are delivering on your promise. Accurate and informed information. I had preordered on Dec 27, but just canceled. Yes, because of this Lens Flare problem, and not only seen in your videos. I also can see it in L3’s videos, now that I look closer for it. So why did I cancel? Well, I am an armature photographer and have even sold cameras a long long time ago. I have taught many people to use cameras, and got my mother started, and she became a Photo teacher at several of the CC’s in the Los Angeles area. So, I think you hit it on the head. Coating and lens build, and yes, it might be fixable, or at least made usable, cheaply. I suggest Hubsan do what you are trying and put a better clear filter on the front... Matte Black with good glass and the proper well done coatings. But, until they do I have to be cautious about my money... do I let them ship me a problem camera with the hopes that they fix the problem? That is a little risky, but I think your tests may just show them what to do for all the other Zino 2’s out there. It is awesome that the camera is easily replaceable, but it has to be well engineered all the way around to make it worth it, and that includes the lens. Personally, I will be keeping my eye on the Zino 2, and may end up recommending it as well to friends and family, but right now all I can tell them is it flies awesome, long, and takes great video that you may have to edit a lot. For the price, it really is hard to beat. It matches quads at twice it’s price, and that’s no joke. It can really be a good quad... if ... and that is the problem. If I was Hubsan, I would source a camera with a better lens/build and make it available... image if they put $50 more into the camera... so that presale price would have been $450 US, but the quality would have been there day one. I really hope Hubsan can fix this cheaply, but I also suggest making available a Zino 2 with an upgraded camera for $50 more.
A good reference about Lens Flare... and yes, the mention good quality lenses with good quality coatings... photographylife.com/what-is-ghosting-and-flare
like i said in your previous video and as you mentioned, you can just zoom in a little bit in post production to get rid of that lens flare issue. Videographers zoom in all of the time when shooting 4k, the 4k absorbs enough data to let you zoom in and not lose too much details and stay sharp.
Chris, I know this is unrelated to your video but there’s no one else that can help.. I flew my Zino Pro yesterday, mind you this thing is weeks olds. I just got an extra battery and case for it. Mysteriously, the damn thing flew for 30 seconds and then bam just fell out of the sky for no apparent reason and landed on my neighbors roof. The gimbal/camera cables are disconnected and the gimbal itself seems dead. What can I do? I literally spent $450 on this damn drone could you please help?
Great footage and great flying! I got nervous at the waterfall. Yeah the sun flares happen quite often in my videos. Some of the footage is cut because there is difficulty syncing the 4k footage with the fvp recording so I have to piece it together. But l'll see what I can do next time to include all the drone footage.
hai Chris, imho it's in the software, I for once had and issue with the original zino, the video turn out to be too much blue, I reinstall the Apps then only the video turn out with much better colour. On the focus issue I did some adjustment on the lens and I could only rectified the medium focus, the near and far seems to be soft
Polarized filter “reflections” .. Hey, You are meticulous analytical and very thorough. I really appreciate your determination and candor. Please keep it up. I will test my Zino 2. Following your lead and post once the mystical unicorn .. I mean Zino 2 arrives ha ha ha. Thanks
What's up Chris this is Chris from Tampa first things first I hope your mother is well and I got to say the video quality and this video looks pretty damn good out of the zeno 2
Vern Maas no matter what quad you buy from Hubsan support is touch and go. Your best support is my Hubsan QC help & support group on Facebook this channel and me personally. LOL
Cannot understand that Hubsan didn't catch those flares while putting the Zino 2 through its (test)paces; or did they only fly it on cloudy and gloomy days? It almost looks like the lens didn't get any coating. Wondering if you contacted Hubsan regarding these ugly and abundant flares? Really considering cancelling my Zino 2 pre-order; kinda depends on Hubsan reacting quickly to this problem. If they don't, I'm out next week :-\
Pixelpeter They showed us a lot of night flights plus China is covered in a haze of pollution so that’s part of it. Good results from some different filters tested today coming up soon. 👍
MrJhuerta88 Honestly I think they got screwed! Hubsan didn’t deliver on the contract with the total units they were supposed to deliver and is selling them direct so maybe they are just focusing on fulfilling the pre orders. Hubsan has also been suppling other sellers so not very good on their part. Contracts don’t mean anything I guess. This is all just my opinion from what I see.
At least the outer ring is removable, inviting the opportunity for quality screw-on filters. I've already inquired with PolarPro to see if they have compatible filters, but they don't. I was hoping the camera might be one used by several makers, among which one might be dominant enough to have filters made for it. I hadn't thought to check if my DJI Spark filters by PolarPro might be similarly removable from their frame and fit this camera, but as expected, I just confirmed they are too small, and only one set is actually round.
The x- hubsan app on my Huawei isn't working properly , i can't select any of the options in the relay tab , worked fine last time I used it. Any ideas ? Thanks
What's happen with Gearbest? I got the link on your video channel and I placed my Zino 2 preorder on Jan 1st and Still Nothing is not even shipped out, so dissapointed with them!!
Virus....I don't think people understand how serious it is and how everything is closed. Hubsan is hobbling along but most places are closed and customer service is working from home.
I would be surprised if the lens is glass at the price of zino 2 if the outer ring comes off, you can bet Hubsan may release some filters in the future.
No wonder why they only put out night promo videos, they must have known the camera was bad in daylight. They should have put a lens as you have done on the outside to a. Protect the inner lens from damage and b. To reflect/absorb any glare as you have identified, would t have cost them anything to do that..
@@林子龙-j2f You avoid lens flare with good quality lenses. Judging from the footage we have seen so far, it is obvious that the Zeno 2 have very bad lenses. It looks like the first Zeno as a good camera and cheap body parts, Hubsan didn't learn the lesson, this time they make a better drone apparently... and gave us bad optics on the camera to save some change.
@@林子龙-j2f I don't supply parts and I didn't claim to do it. As a photographer with many years of experience I can judge the result of a bad lens when I see it. It is obvious. By just looking at videos like the ones Chris and many others are posting on their channels from footage of the Zino 2, you can realize the severity of the abbreviations in the picture. It makes no sense to me that I buy a product and upon arrival I have to modify so it work properly. I held high expectations for the Xeno 2, I am so disappointed. Chinese companies are capable of great achievements for a fair price, I can give you so many examples, but to keep it short and into the subject of lenses... takes cell phones for example, my Xiaomi M9t has an extraordinary set of lenses with minimal to no aberrations at all in all light conditions. Why does the Hubson Zeno2 doesn't perform just a bit like it ? Hubson just doesn't do the cut. I am sorry. Like I said... held high expectations for the Zino 2.

Hey @QC GUY, I am considering buying the Zino 2 or Zino PRO for shooting mainly landscape and nature still photos, and I would love to hear your impressions on the image quality at sunrise/sunset/daytime/low light (for still photos and not video) and maybe even seeing a few sample pictures. Also it is unclear if it can shoot RAW or not. Thank you!
@@QCGUY If you're referring to the FIMI X8 SE than yes, i am considering it but the 2020 edition seems to have a smaller sensor and I'm concerned it will degrade the image quality and prefer to wait for reviews before buying it.
You're making a really valid and interesting point here, Chris. Looking at your two previous videos makes the viewer think the 2 is a crap quad, but looking at the eight minutes here its easy to think perhaps: "Wow, that's the quad for me!". I have some really bad video from my early flights with my original Zino which I wouldn't dream of boring anybody with, but I have many from FC 1.1.52 I was and still am delighted with in terms of quality, but haven't posted because the content isn't particularly interesting. I'd need to edit 18 or so minutes down to about 3 to make them remotely engaging because I didn't pay enough attention to what I wanted from the flight; that only comes with prectice. My Zino Pro has been much better from the off, but I still need to refine my editing skills, too. So, thanks once again for introducing some common sense. We can all be guilty of snap judgements and I hold my hand up to that.
Hi Chris, Is it possible for you to measure the actual filter diameter without the protective ring? I have quite an assortment of various smaller filters and several contacts with lens companies. Any word from Hubsan on this issue? Great final video, but it represents a great deal of time, skill, and dedication to work around a defect. Personally, I do not have any of the above. We should not have to accept this inferior lens on a camera advertised for its cinematographic qualities. Once again a thank you for all your effort, Al Kutchera P.S. Please remind us how to support your children's hospital cause.
Hi Al I have a couple of replies from Hubsan support which I posted a bit further down these comments under my "media name". See what you make of the replies. Cheers Andy.
Sorry I missed your comment. I suppose you have seen my filter solution? This is a good option and I think the thread diameter your asking about is 19mm As for my charity you can donate directly to me or I also encourage people to just donate directly to a children’s hospital. Thanks
Hi Chris,I have some very interesting developments I would like to share with you. I do not do Facebook. etc.. Is there another way to contact you?Best wishes,Al
Great presentation and editing. Post processing is a major part of videography. I seriously doubt if any professional commercial videos or movies are ever end up a a one time shot. Most professionals spend many more hours editing their work than shooting it. Theres nothing unprofessional or deceiving by editing the videos; its a major portion of the final production. Great job.
MIchael Wright The point being made is I can show you what you want to see or the garbage in the previous 2 videos. Not one of my 4k quads shoot this bad and most are flown here found on my channel pretty much unedited. Those edits are edited for time not quality. I can mess up a video on my own which you’ll see on my videos here as well but this is something is a major work in progress so far.
The waterfall climb is E-P-I-C!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I actually think I could just make out the height of the column of water over the underlying structure! Very sweet. .
That's some nice riske shooting with great video results. I think there is a Zino pro 4k around the $400 mark and the Zino Pro 2 at around $800. Am I wrong and if not what is the difference?
Hi, tnx for your very informative videos. I have watched pretty much of them and there are still a lot I want to view. I am orientating to buy a drone and at the moment I am watching for Zino Pro, Zino 2 and Fimi X8. Can you tell me if these drones can tilt the gimbal a bit upwards, which is nice when flying in surroundings with mountains.
Spend a little more and get the Anafi if you want upwards. It is an amazing drone and go look at my video with it at the buttermilk falls pointing straight up from the bottom of the falls while right up on them.
@@QCGUY thanks for your reaction! I started with thinking to buy a Zino (Pro), but after a lot of reading and watching videos, I feel it could be worthwhile to go for the Fimi. The Anafi looks great, but as far as I can see it again cost a bit more. So overtime it goes up step by step from my initial budget. :-)
I agree that nothing man made is perfect, but it's good to know the down side so you don't have a big disappointment. You do an amazing job showing us what to possibly expect when we do get our models. Thanks 👍👍👍
Now my zino 2 was for 30 dollars cheaper that my Zino pro. I grab 48% sale on gearbest, and Bag, 2 batteries and zino 2 costs without shipping 480 dollars 😁
I don't compare anything to the mini as I think all my UHD quads are better then it is. It is a great quad, very reliable and affordable but too small and lite with little features. It has it's own marketing purpose and is over hyped in my opinion. At this time the Zino 2 isn't even comparable to the Fimi X8 SE. I think it will be at least 3 months till I can really start recommending this quad or comparing it positively.
Hi chris Just off the subject of this VT ive got the hubsan 501ss and ive a small issue on the RTH when switched to the on position the quad decides to fly off on its accord in any direction and i have a real issue getting it back somewhere near to my position evern with the RTH turned back to off ive lost almost all control. The problem goes away if i disconnect the battery and restart the procedure of calibrating etc start flying with GPS is fine but as soon as i hit RTH im in this crash or disappear situation... Iff i go onto hubsans site which firmware update do i use as im a dummy when using computers and firmware updates so i wanted to know the rite update for the quad or the transmitter iff you think both need doing. Hi again, Chris -- appreciate your videos! If you ever tire of being the QC Guy, you can always change to the GT Guy ("GT" being "Go To"). 1) Definitely will be getting the Fimi X8se CPL filter; I'm just wondering when I'll be getting my Hubson Z2 from GearBest. 2) Your spillway shots are first-rate; I guess the optical flow or TOF sensors are working! (No way would I do that with my Zino 1) 3) Since the original Zino doesn't have any downward-facing sensors, it slows down as it approaches zero elevation; after passing through minus 5 feet, it will suddenly drop like a rock since it decides it's not landing after all. (I almost lost my little Zino in the water once because of this.) I'm assuming the Z2 doesn't do this because of its sensors? 4) I agree about the hood -- I hate those things. How about a longer ring? Obviously, it can't be too much longer or it will show up in the video. Awaiting your next video with bated breath. (Not "with baited breath" -- that would really smell!)
Stay tuned on the camera...As for the sensors they really didn't push back or do anything in this flight so close to the water. The anafi pushes back with force in this case.
I will definitely posting videos if mine ever arrives. Looks like Husban put a lot of lipstick on the pig for the advertising videos. Hopefully Husban is working on a fix. Lesson learned never preorder anything from China.
Shoot me a link when the time comes so I can check them out. I think we have some tuning coming in the way of firmware. I am driving Hubsan crazy right now. lol
@@QCGUYI will. It has to be tough with the Corona virus closing businesses and keeping many workers at home. Just watched this on my 75 inch 4k tv and it just doesn't look like 100 mbs 4k video. You using your mavic now? Cause that is night and day difference from the first video! Saying this only 5 seconds in! Way to go Chris, you have totally redeemed the zino 2!
Chris - Thanks for raising my Z2 confidence a little. As an amateur astronomer I've long battled reflecting light in homemade scopes! You have a great flight area. I'm curious though. Say you happened to find a fishing pole laying by the water and you picked it up and a fish happened to be on it, would the ranger believe you?
That's too bad. I had kinda hoped to see something different. I suspect you're spot on with the cpl and paint idea! Keep us posted! The Z2 is at the top end of my budget and nothing out there matches the specs for the price, so finding a flaw that can be easily fixed with simple tricks won’t scare me yet. I hope we can avoid a hood, but hey, I’ve got DSLR lenses that cost more than the Z2, and I use hoods on them without second thought. And making a simple slip on slip off hood will cost me nothing thanks to lots of model rocket tubing floating around the basement! Please let us know how well your mods worked!
Hi Chris, thanks again for your great work. I just want a point one thing, out camras NEVER lie. Today good images , ok ! But what we saw yesterday was absolutely also a fact and belongs to the real video image quauality of this Zino 2 qouad. Something that every drone pilot should expect on every flight, provided Hubsan confirms that this is not the case. !
Great work again Chris, you know I would do a proper video but doesn’t look like I’m getting mine any time soon. It’s very similar to the problems I had with the apeman 4K action camera. Cheap lens and crap coating. Hopefully someone like Ulanzi will make a lens we can swap with the original. Good idea with the fimi filter. Will you try and if possible turn down the ev setting to -3 as I think this might help with some of the glare issues 👍🏻
Yeah I am hoping for some quality filters. I haven't tested these yet and already know they are cheap low quality but it's a start. Plus I am going to start playing with the manual settings like you mentioned as well. I hope this work band gets raised soon and they ship yours.
You're such a scaremonger, Chris #scaremonger 😂🤣 ...I really like your solution with the filters by using the fimi x8 se filters and painting the reflective plastic. As always buddy, awesome findings!
Very odd. I sent an email to service@hubsan.com saying I was thinking of cancelling my order and could they comment on a fix. I just got a reply with a "Hi" and then a link to this RUclips by Chris. They made no other comment. Pretty unimpressive support. They don't seem interested in the issue which seems like warning sign to me.
I replied and had another email from support telling me not to worry followed by what looks like a copy and paste about what lens flare is. Hubsan seem unable or unwilling to respond directly to the issue we are seeing in miltiple flight videos of the Z2. Lens flare happens with every camera but I haven't seen it as badly as in Chris's video. The replies I have had from Hubsan are disturbing as they will not respond to what is an obvious issue. Sadly I am loosing confidence in them. Feeling pretty despondent about the whole thing.
Don't forget to clean your fingerprints before flying...lol!Sometime , painting is not enough , when there is a surface , there is a reflection , even on a black surface when the light i arriving at a small angle with that surface.
Awesome video Chris! Looks like this might turn out to be a $20 fix on the first run production models until Hubsan does a camera changeout like they did with the zino original.
@@QCGUY I'm hoping a certain little birdy... (won't drop any names ..cough.. Chris...) whispers into Hubsan's ears that the earliest adopters SHOULD be rewarded for their leap of faith and have the gimbals switched out when all is ironed out.
I watch your movies with fimi X8 SE and mavic mini and the truth is that in all you can stick to something. FIMI, as if the image is darker with vignetting, but better sharpness. MAVIC MINI is not exactly the same 4K, as in MAVIC PRO or ZOOM, for example. I hope that in ZINO 2 they will improve it. Or you can easily do it yourself.
It’s actually not beginner friendly unless you like and know how to fix them. They are decent photography drones but seem to be unpredictable in firmware and QC. Customer service isn’t so great either.

A good reference about Lens Flare... and yes, the mention good quality lenses with good quality coatings...

the music seems very relaxing, but the footage was more astounding as it looks very nice in shooting. I wanna learn from you more about this, thanks!
like i said in your previous video and as you mentioned, you can just zoom in a little bit in post production to get rid of that lens flare issue. Videographers zoom in all of the time when shooting 4k, the 4k absorbs enough data to let you zoom in and not lose too much details and stay sharp.
Yes but I like to have at least 50% of the video I shot to be something to work with. This lens is crap! Thanks Buddy...

Great footage and great flying! I got nervous at the waterfall. Yeah the sun flares happen quite often in my videos. Some of the footage is cut because there is difficulty syncing the 4k footage with the fvp recording so I have to piece it together.
Any ideas ?

Virus....I don't think people understand how serious it is and how everything is closed. Hubsan is hobbling along but most places are closed and customer service is working from home.
I would be surprised if the lens is glass at the price of zino 2 if the outer ring comes off, you can bet Hubsan may release some filters in the future.
No wonder why they only put out night promo videos, they must have known the camera was bad in daylight. They should have put a lens as you have done on the outside to a. Protect the inner lens from damage and b. To reflect/absorb any glare as you have identified, would t have cost them anything to do that..

Man, that is some really nice work piloting. Hell I would have put that in the drink in no time flat ! Video quality looks fine.
Hi Chris,
Is it possible for you to measure the actual filter diameter without the protective ring? I have quite an assortment of various smaller filters and several contacts with lens companies.
Any word from Hubsan on this issue? Great final video, but it represents a great deal of time, skill, and dedication to work around a defect. Personally, I do not have any of the above. We should not have to accept this inferior lens on a camera advertised for its cinematographic qualities.
Once again a thank you for all your effort,

I'm going to hold of on that comparison but it is one to be talked about for sure.

seafax It’s a short focal point. I’m guessing about 50 meters give or take. Anything outside of that becomes soft.

Great presentation and editing. Post processing is a major part of videography. I seriously doubt if any professional commercial videos or movies are ever end up a a one time shot. I started with thinking to buy a Zino (Pro), but after a lot of reading and watching videos, I feel it could be worthwhile to go for the Fimi. The Anafi looks great, but as far as I can see it again cost a bit more.
So overtime it goes up step by step from my initial budget. :-)

Hey QC is it worth paying the extra 200 for the zino 2 . Or should I just grab the zino pro.. and thanks again for all the honest feedback
At the moment it is hard for me to say buy this quad but the pro is and has been a fine one to purchase.
Now my zino 2 was for 30 dollars cheaper that my Zino pro.
I grab 48% sale on gearbest, and Bag, 2 batteries and zino 2 costs without shipping 480 dollars 😁
so should i sell mine on ebay? its on its way in shipping, i have the mavic mini, how do they compare ? all this hype on the zino2 now what to do ?
I don't compare anything to the mini as I think all my UHD quads are better then it is. It is a great quad, very reliable and affordable but too small and lite with little features. It has it's own marketing purpose and is over hyped in my opinion. At this time the Zino 2 isn't even comparable to the Fimi X8 SE. I think it will be at least 3 months till I can really start recommending this quad or comparing it positively.

1) Definitely will be getting the Fimi X8se CPL filter; I'm just wondering when I'll be getting my Hubson Z2 from GearBest.
2) Your spillway shots are first-rate; I guess the optical flow or TOF sensors are working! (No way would I do that with my Zino 1)
3) Since the original Zino doesn't have any downward-facing sensors, it slows down as it approaches zero elevation; after passing through minus 5 feet, it will suddenly drop like a rock since it decides it's not landing after all.

WOW! Unwatchable....sorry it was so painful but I never said it was great or perfect. Better than what I showed in my other videos not edited.
@@QCGUY I'm sorry Chris. No offense to you intended. It's a big improvement over what I saw yesterday (Sun Destroyer) but it completely lacks any grandeur or sense of awe. Expert camera control and great music can't make up for the flat and lifeless video quality. Do you have footage of that area with a better quality camera?
I did firmware 1.1.8 today and flew in very sunny conditions saw the same you saw and maybe worse, my youtube channel is Daniel Taormina
Daniel Taormina Let me know when you publish it and I’ll check it out. Thanks
