    Not a full sun test but still a good first test for the CPL filters. If the Zino 2 had a better quality lens this would be a much better end result. I have a full sun flight with and without coming up plus my flight with Chad B. where I cross the Potomac river to visit Maryland from Virginia.

      I think it's hard to judge image quality from a RUclips video. Screenshots from the original video might work better. It would also help to have shots oriented in the direction that gives the worst flare. Can you confirm the lens is actually glass, or is it plastic?

    Great testing and discovery that the Freewell filter for the Anafi fit the Zino 2 lens perfectly. You just save me some money since I already own that filter set. Without actually owning the Z2 and only basing my opinions on watching other video's, I agree that this sun flare probably occurs due to poor coating of the lens. Which could be an easy fix for the next batch of Z2's. And also agree that creating a lens hood for a camera that is moving up to 40mph is not a good solution. I will recommend this video to any who is worried about the lens flare issue.

    Chris, I fully hear what you're saying about a hood directly mounted to the camera. I saw Pete's idea and likewise had wondered about the feasibility of it myself, having pursued a similar idea that because of my FPV and video failures, I can't even explore yet. Basically, I just got some footwork done with an oversized hood I'll be trimming shorter as needed. But, it is certainly all rooted in knowing the value of hoods on handheld or otherwise stationary cameras, and I do feel it is at risk of being an air scoop that might lead to worse operation, especially in sport mode. On the other hand, it may work very well in film mode. I'm expecting there is a threshold of flight speed beyond which one really needs a body-mounted, non-moving hood that the camera moves within. That too seems tricky though...I can't say I ever saw any benefit with the Zino hood I made, but it may simply have needed to be deeper...something I had trouble with doing for the design I was working from. There is a lot I've yet to learn about drone photography and do wonder just how effective hoods are, as well as...and even more so...polarizing filters. Polarizers are only gong to be effective at reducing glare from certain surface angles relative to the filter, but at least they can still increase saturation and improve how the sky looks, even if again only at an angle relative to the sun. Change flight direction...change of effect, so their use has to be a bit more planned if aiming for the best quality results. Flight videography is pretty much a whole new beast for me to learn what can/cannot be done.
    Glad to see the URUAV filters for the Fimi X8 SE work, but especially Freewell ones, which I trust as a better filter, more readily available! I thought surely the camera size for the Z2 camera wasn't likely unique and there should already be some filters that would fit a round frame design. Certainly the Freewell are inexpensive enough to try, but being uncoated I may pay up for a coated filter.. Great idea about painting the lens ring a matte black too! I wouldn't expect a filter to remove flare that a hood helps remove by actually blocking light from stray angles, but perhaps just by virtue of a reduced light intensity, it still helps. Thanks for the info!

    Hi Chris, if I understand well the URUAV filters do not adjust directly with the ring on the ZINO 2 camera, right?
    You have to take the filter glass first out of the ring and put it down on the Zino factory ring.
    While the Freewell filters adjust directly above the ZINO 2 camera ring, is that correct? Do they have some magnetic ability?

    Is it up to the consumers who pays € 625 for the flay compo package to find out a defects solution voor hubsan just relese product ?
    it seems good to me that if we jusy push towards that hubsan itself with real solution for the defects find .

    Hey Chris ... Awesome review and a quick simple question ... I assume that I'll ask you rhetorical question but it is ... I'm sure that it worth the extra $150 for the Hubsan Zino 2 instead of the crappy Fimi X8 SE 2020 right ? I mean Zino 2 is better build quad at all or I'm wrong ... Maybe you had a bad experience with the X8 if you call it crappy but build and quality are definitely better than Hubsan and you have a 50/50 chance of positive experience with Hubsan Z2 right now. I'm considering the same two options. The Zino 2 has better range, and looks to handle wind a little better, and has 4k 60fps. But the X8 build quality seems a little better, and the Fimi App is more polished and gives you F-Log as an option when shooting video, and the X8 is well under 900g. The Fimi controller also has a couple of useful additional buttons and a five-way pad under the right stick, although it lacks the screen of the Hubsan controller. If it wasn't for the poor lens on the Zino 2, I would definitely get one, but right now I think the X8 is a better buy, plus it's a bit less expensive.

    Awesome work. Thanks again for the update. I can’t wait to see your results in full bright morning sun where the angle of the sun can be lower and bright, from both far left and far right like you did in the other videos.
    A few reasons the Anafi filter maybe working better are that they have better coatings, better glass, and the light was hitting this glass first, and not the cheap non coated glass first.
    It would be very interesting to see a test where the Z2 filter is replaced with a good UV filter, and ND and Polarizing filters Th at replace the current screw on filter.
    So far it looks like maybe Hubsan could just source some decent replacement UV filters to replace the current cheap Chit, and then Hubsan or a 3rd party could sell good quality screw on ND and Polarizing filters that would replace the UV or cheap UV filter.
    When I used to sell cameras we would always try to sell a cheap UV filter to protect the lens from scratches and prints. Better to damage a 5-10 filter then a several hundred dollar lens. Then you could buy all kinds of other filters for various effects, but you would unscrew 1 filter and replace it with the new filter. Don’t leave the cheap UV on when you need a polarizer, etc. Adding glass when not needed just adds more chance of light aberrations in your pictures.
    I really do want to see a good cheap solution to this problem, because I do think Hubsan has a decent quad for a great price... but the camera has to be pretty good without these problems in order to compete. They will get far fewer sales if the camera is Meh.
    My wife also said that even though we canceled and got the Evo, no regrets, we may want to get a Zino 2 to fly with the grandkids and friends if the camera situations works out well. At the 400-500 range, that might be doable.
    Thanks again for the great follow up and info. Keep it up.

    It definitely got rid of that sun flare, which was really bad without.It’s just a shame that you have to use filters with it in order to get a decent video. Which makes me think that there’s a defect in the way the lens was made for the camera itself. I haven’t flown my Evo in a week. It’s been cold and raining and windy. Tomorrow is going to be 62°, a little bit breezy, but I think flyable. Tuesday is going to be 65°. So I should have at least two or three days of nice weather to take it out and get some good video. I have to buy a copy of da Vinci 16 studio, As I tried adobe premiere and it is so slow at rendering video, it’s ridiculous. I have a ridiculously high end machine and should not have to wait 12 hours to render a five minute 4K video. Whereas da Vinci resolve 16 does it in real time or less. It’s also really easy to get great results with it, I highly recommend the software. They have a free version that you can download that you can play around with. Hi QC GUY I just bought a hubsan zino 2 plus. I haven't had any of the sirius issues other pilots had had ( just minor but annoying issues with the app). Nevertheless I have a true disappoinment regarding the camera. Images look kind of yellowish and I don't know if it can be fixable with a filter. What do you think? Is the filter going to fix a yellowish camera that also struggles to capture high dynamic range? Or should I return it and go for a Mavic mini 2 instead?
    Thank you for your help!!

    • @QCGUY

      You can achieve better manually setting the camera and filters do help depending on the situation but colors are not going to be perfect and the focal distance will remain the same with this one. If you are questioning returning it for the mini 2 then go with your gut so you don't have doubts or buyers remorse.

    The direct sunlight was rather inconsistant this time around, so not conclusive just yet imo, although things do look promising with the filter for the Anafi. I got some similar filters for my Anafi from Freewell. You have to remember that Freewell has cheaper, NON coated filters (light mounting) and more expensive, MULTI coated ones (dark mounting), which can make a big difference. When you have more consistent, direct sunlight tomorrow, you could do a 'bare' lens run, and an Anafi-filter run. Might be even easier to just have the Zino 2 on a pedestal or something in the sunlight and just turn it slowly by hand to the left and right in the direction of the sun, with the camera pointing straight ahead, and also pointing down. But that's up to you of course ;-)

  • @CleanBlackRaiser

    The lens flare problem can certainly spoil some shots. I tried using a home-made lens shade. Not recommended. It jammed and burned out a gimbal motor. Any shade device should not be in the shape of a cup and not placed on the actual lens but somewhere above it on the drone. Multi-coated lens filters can cut off some lens flare. Zino has a good enough lens for decent cinematic video. Since you painted the outer rim of the Zino lens matte black, maybe you should paint black the rim of your Anafi filters too. In bright light the angle of reflection on a white rim surface can wash out subtle colors.

    • @QCGUY
      @QCGUY  4 года назад +1

      Yes this cup hood solution if his creation ever turns out to work for him is terrible to show as a solution for the reason you mentioned of burning out a gimbal motor. Some people are very smart but common sense all goes out the window or they just can't foresee the obvious negative actions it will provide. I have another video coming where I address this further as a warning for the issue you just mentioned. Thanks

    Great video Chris. I think the benefit of the Anafi filters is that it covers the Zino outer ring completely so will knock out any reflection before it gets to the Zino parts. The Fimi filter still uses the outer Zino ring so it is going to get the reflection bouncing off it and have to soak it up but that isn’t going to be as good as the cover all version for anafi.. Hubsan should supply a set of filters with all drones and to all purchased already.

    Without a side by side kind of video it's nearly impossible to tell one from the other. It's like trying to match colors over the phone or over the internet. Different computer monitors have different display settings. All that being said though, both vids with the filters were hands down better than the original without any filter. Can you do one of those triple screen overlays in order to look at each video side by side?

      I have one more video on this topic and I'm done with it I think. Both did good yes but if you look close you fimi filter reveals a little and the anafi filters almost wiped it clean of flares. Both very good though and I am pleased.

      With respect a side by side doesn’t address the issue either unless you fly 2 or more stock zino2 on exactly the same setting and be sure they all fly in the same conditions (ie they are close enough that one isn’t shaded whilst the other is). In as little as the time it takes to land fit filter and take off again the light conditions may well change so the comparison is no better than we already have.

    • @MrTjmk
      @MrTjmk 4 года назад +2

      @@svyikes I completely agree if he were testing the stock cameras on two similar drones but I thought these test videos were done to compare any possible improvements by trying some filters and comparing the results to the original footage shot with the Floyd drone in it's stock configuration. It was readily evident that with either of the filters he used in place the footage showed a marked improvement in quality compared to the original footage.
      My comment on the side by side was to see which of the recorded footage segments looked better between the two different filter he used.

    • @svyikes
      @svyikes 4 года назад +1

  • @svyikes

    Great video Chris. I’m a dissenter though. I wouldn’t pay $50 more for a better anything. Its part of the reason I’m putting up with the 3-4 month wait getting the 2. $399 is my absolute limit and if anything if I finally spit my dummy and cancel it will be to trade back down to original zino at around $240.
    I have also been one of the voices saying the camera is fine IF you accept what it is. A $400 drone. If you compare it to a x8 ($550) or a mavic depends on model but ($550 plus) or Evo or Anafi etc, of course it won’t stand up. But that’s what the 2 is. I know they want $550 now but it’s not a $550 or even a $500 drone and they will figure that pretty fast I think.
    Finally if all it takes is a $15 filter meh! My wife refuses to compare big screen tvs side by side in store, she has a point. When will you ever have 2 tvs side by side in your house? Never. When will you light your house like a store? Never. So what’s the point? Same here. When will you fly 2 drones pointed at the same scene at the same time?
    If you fly a drone and get amazing footage the rest is just spec brag. Unless like you your reason d’être is to compare drones pick the drone that does what you need at the price you can pay.
    Firmware out of the box, quality control, delivery and retail partners Hubsan sucks, but on what you get for the money I think Hubsan do ok and nearly all the footage I’ve seen so far would be fine for me. Keep up the good work and good life to you and yours.

    • @QCGUY
      @QCGUY  4 года назад +1

      It's always to each there own but lets say they never resolve the gimbal tilt issue. Happy? You lose 50% of your footage to bad flares. Happy? It just needs to do a remotely close job to what they promise and me having a large support group for Hubsan alone and 4 years working closely with them I am seeing and hearing what isn't what you pay for at the reduced price.
      I'm not disagreeing with you or being disrespectful so I hope that's not how it was taken but right now receiving this quad with no issues is slim. There are acceptable issues they can fix and there is unacceptable issues where it is costing people more to send them back for repair. I have the 2 of them and both had issues that were not acceptable had I paid for them. One still is not usable with a dead gimbal and they want me to pay and send it back if I was a customer. Not good at all...

    • @svyikes
      @svyikes 4 года назад

      QC GUY Chris we are pretty much in agreement which stands to reason given most of what I know of Hubsan comes from your vids. In fact, and I don’t mean this as blame on you but I got the impression from your pre release videos via your contact with Hubsan and Gearbest that they had learned from the original zino and through consultations with people like you. They have let you down perhaps more than general consumers and if I were in your position I would be wary of endorsing them in future. I don’t think (without having received mine, pre ordered dec 19, still at paid with Gearbest- never again!!) the camera flare is as big a problem as other issues. I am losing confidence in my abilities to fly without constantly worrying what today’s issue will be and if it will be terminal. Lens flare might lessen a shot but at least they don’t effect flight. That’s why $400 is my absolute limit on any Hubsan product, it’s just too big a risk with them.

    Chris, I admire all the work you do in behalf of the Zino comunity. Just one thing the CPL filters are used to reduce reflexion on glass, water and to make the sky a darker blue but it needs to be rotated in order to achieve proper exposure and it does not work in all angles.... also when using it were you able to remove the original Zino 2 lens? Or it still there? If the lens is still there it will affect the final image one way or another. Solution would be remove the original lens and replace it with either a good quality UV lens or a good quality ND filter... lets say 4x or less...
