Another great video. I agree with your takes on the issues with the camera RTH function and most importantly the forced updates that Hubsan imposes on the users.

Hubsan has come a long way. Nice range test. Only thing is you could have gone farther if you headed straight out, if it has flat panel antennas like the other Zinos. Probably wouldn't have enough battery to get home. When you were way out there, your quad was at a 45 degree angle to you. When you turned completely perpendicular, you lost signal. Very impressive even though the antennas were not aligned. Hopefully I will get mine soon.
CLTech If you pay attention to the terrain as you did the in the screen recording I would have lost it sooner by your suggestion.
The path I choose keeps me between mountains till I get so far and then the path of least resistance is turning right because of the mountains passed earlier on the left.
I have to pretty much do the same thing in using my other quads but maybe you didn’t notice that the elevation was different and raising the altitude would have been the only other choice. 👍
CLTech Hey bud, I paid more attention to this today and it is definitely not accurate anyhow.
Some times it was correct and others it had me pointing at 2 o’clock while it was clearly at 12 o’clock so maybe I need to calibrate it or check the location of my device for accuracy first next time. Something to keep an eye on 👍

Oh dear, really hope they fix the camera! I had high hopes for it and the original Zino looks better. The lens flare isn’t very cinematic 🤣 and the image appears out of focus at times which is strange. They made the original a lot better through firmware so hopefully they can do something with this. Nice review as always. 👍🏻
I'm going to give it another shot today and take the X8 as well and run both in the same path. There is always loss with sun but this was bad.
QC GUY It’s not very high quality looking and reminds me of the cheap 4K action cameras with the lens flare and central softness. I was hoping it would be similar to my mavic air only able to fly anywhere.

Another great video Chris!!! I'm trying my darndest to get my Zino 2 out one mile. I've hit 9/10, and lost connection completely. I'm looking for other places to fly, and thinking about taking her out over the Casco Bay. Of course once I hit the mile, I'll want more! My next attempt at the mile will be done in Sport Mode.
Roy Harper Take it in baby steps learning what you can do with what battery you have, how much is left on return and know those wind speeds and direction.
I made one boo boo this summer by getting greedy and not knowing the wind direction flying in a new area. Ended well but with the quad falling from the sky. lol
@@QCGUY Thanks Chris, I see the wisdom in your advice. Before I fly I always check the UAV Forecast app as well as Dark Sky weather app for wind speed & direction. Going forward I'll more closely monitor the battery.
I feel I've been taking baby steps, having decided not to do videos until I was comfortable flying and being aware of where the drone is. I am working on doing videos now. My goal is to get good enough to do good videos of lighthouses.
My favorite hobby is visiting & photographing lighthouses. Doing videos of them adds another dimension to the photography. Then I share the photos thru my FB Page devoted to lighthouses, realizing most lighthouse enthusiasts will never get to see some of the lighthouses I visit.

Very impressive flight with a fair amount of wind. We can cut lens flare with lens shades. Not a huge issue! Talking about props, in the frame, during a range test is hilarious. High speed and shooting anything cinematic rarely mix!
Not sure I find the humor but ok.....I don't think I said anything about trying to or thinking I was going for cinematic either.
Just not worried about props in frame, pitched forward, upwind in a good breeze, pushing quad for distance near max height.
Enjoyed your first flight video, maybe this spring will allow better test of color quality, thanks for braving the cold, not a fan of annoying RTH beeping, not sure what is the theory behind that feature, visual and app confirmation is adequate for me! Dave from OKC⚓️

That’s an honest first flight Chris. Hopefully Hubsan will get some of the issues sorted like they did with the first Zino. Just gotta have some patience. Keep up the great info brother.
Hi,qc, normally for the range test, you should keep the height more than 350meters, not 123.4meters.
I thought it was a great video Chris... Loved the light on the water when you were flying. I as a novice cannot see any defects in flight camera etc.. Wish Storm Dennis would pass me in UK as really want to test my basic Zino.
Thanks for sharing. You said that 3 batteries were used and I am wondering if the controller battery lasted for all 3 or had to be recharged? I saw a video from the guy in Canada that said the controller needed recharging after each battery in the Zino 2 back when he first started flying his. Let's hope the woodchuck was right and it warms up soon.
3 batteries only uses half the controllers charge.
Thanks for this great video! I'm amazed at the distance. Here in Europe the FCC mode is not allowed. Apart from that I was close to ordering this bird but now I'm off it. My Anafi has so many advantages. I know that's a bit unfair because of the price difference. I'll see if I can do a direct sunlight shot. I'm a beginner so my videos are raw with no sound 😬 but you'll see the lense quality well enough.

Good review, the baby looks good, the period does not allow to see beautiful colors, but the potential is there; for the reflections of the sun in the camera, I am not worried, because I avoid flying with the sun from the front
Shouldn't have to totally avoid it.... It's a problem if it continues without without filters. There is always loss into the sun but this is destruction.
Chris maybe the sun was reflecting off the front arms and motor pods? What if you put some flat black paint or tape on the front arms ?

Great for $399 8km plus distance for one battery. Now above $500...….= dji mini 3 x batteries.

Sadly, lens flair is not a software or firmware issue.
Flair is created inside the lens by their construction (common in multi lens systems) and optical coatings.
I doubt we will see Hubsan address the camera design, so we will fall back to polarized filters or maybe a form of lens hood to mitigate it.

Good test Chris and impressive distance and decent flight time considering in to the breeze on outbound run. When you lost the signal and it went in to hover it seemed to lose some altitude on several occasions, which was a bit of a concern. Totally agree with your observations on the camera. It will be interesting to see if messing about with the settings can improve this or whether its down to the actual quality of the lens.
Paddy Stubbs Thanks, there is a difference in elevation from one end to the other so it does look as though it drops once off the water.
The camera is going to need a little firmware tweaking, manual adjustments and most likely a hood and filters but I think the camera is not so well made lens wise.
Everything I read spells out cheap non coated lens. A corner you don’t cut on a camera quad.

Since this last update I've had to to RTH a few time to get it to kick in. Also once it returns overhead it won't descend until I press the button again. When I received it out of the box three weeks ago the return to home was flawless. My fpv went out after the last update but returned to normal after reinstalling the app.
You just confirmed my purchase Of the Xiaomi FIMI X8 SE over this drone they have been having real trouble so that's why i went with the tried and true thanks Cheers :-)
Solid presentation as always! As for the Z2: Specs look great for this "budget drone", but kind of coming through as an "under-achiever?" Hoping firmware can improve imaging, but thinking this is mostly hardware related. (OR, possibly the one you're flying has a camera "defect." ~ Had first seen the marketing imagery Hubsan created, and it looked crystal clear. And of course, it's wintertime, so not a lot of color to work with etc.) That being said, if imagery can't be improved, @ $499 I'd find it difficult to not go with a Mavic Mini Fly More combo instead. Granted, you get significantly better distance & supposedly better flight time with the Z2..... But not easy to overlook the 4k camera which appears to be a noticeable disappointment in comparison to the Mini's 2.7K. (Who would have expected that? ~ I didn't.)
No defect here...I did the second camera and it's the same. Cheap lens with no coating is most likely it. I could edit like most?
QC GUY that is a bummer. Five bucks more in the lens it would’ve been a winner. That being said I think people had expectations that this drone might be in a class closer to a DJI. Probably even more so due to the gimbal and how nice the video is on Mavic Mini. Nobody (including Hubsan) said this was a professional grade drone anyways. So were all our expectations too high? Irrespective, a classic case of “specifications being only specifications.”

U got that sun ghost effect going on in the return leg on the open fields moves w/ the drone. That just like the 2nd video over the spillway? Has to be the lens. Any filter's this time?

In my few flights I also noticed the RTH wasn’t very accurate to the take off point. It was odd how the RTH video quality stunk yet once you took over flying then the quality improved, I had not noticed that in my few RTH scenarios. Keep testing my friend, push it. Luckily you did not have todo a forced update while out flying.

I think you might have gone further with the range test but unfortunately you have a altitude restriction in your country. Getting higher should have give you a better connection.
If you look at the surrounding mountains in the area I can clearly go higher and be safe but that stays off my channel. lol

Hi Chris thanks for this range test! Quick question sir, i noticed that when you got "Aircraft Disconnected" message on your phone's FPV starting at 8:00, the Height and Distance indicators stopped. Unlike Fimi X8 SE based on my experience, when FPV video stops (totally black) due to long range, the H & D indicators still work so when drone starts heading back to base or RTH, I know that the drone is moving. On Zino 2, does it show movement on H & D indicators at all on the built-in RC display when you got disconnected? Cheers mate!

Took the whole quad apart, revived it from a brick like state and sent that bitch over the water. Smart! lol
I wonder if the lens on the front of the camera has some diverging in the lens , That is where the lens is not flat it is curve in. After thinking it could be convex in the lens it is making more of the light go out it the edge that would make the light to make the color in the corner . Just a idea . The lens is not ground right. It mite be just yours I seen other videos of the zino 2 and never seen that color in the corner.
I found 3 others so far that have it....There's more I'm sure...
So far the Zino 2 doesn't seem any better than the Zino Pro, other than speed.. With speed you have to worry about props in the video...
@Jason Brister True, I was just hoping the camera would be better... I think Hubsan will get it working right. Zino 1 had many problems at first and they made that one of the better drones for the money...

Chris, about how many degrees do you have to point the gimble down to get rid of the props. That's a little disappointing. The major reason I got rid of my Evo. literally hate props in my shots. Still waiting on my Z2, sadly.....
Not far in normal mode but sport mode you have a quad that is pitched forward further.
Hubsan Zino 2 is a very good drone at a low price. The range of the transmitter is also very nice.

Looks very respectable for sub 1000 dollar drone. And not many contries where you can fly that far or even half that. I don't have bionic eyes can't see a little white drone at 2 km's no less 5. Thanks for the videos
My app told me visibility was 10 miles that day so I was apparently in line of site. lol
I wish I had the confidence to range test my Zino 1, With my luck I would lose it lol, love you video, that got to be awesome view in the summer and fall, I just don’t know if I want to buy the zino 2, I just live fly the one I got, do I have to the update on the old zino, and would effect my flying,

Thanks for weathering the cold, this is really informative work! We seem to have yet another case of a de-centered lens here (Chad B and Blueskyver units have the same issue). The center portion of the image is out of focus (a good example can be seen at exactly 9.00 in the video, where the trees across the middle are sharp towards the edges of the frame, but soft in the center (watching at full rez on a 4K monitor). This video appears overall slightly softer than some other examples out there - was this shot at default sharpening settings (3)? The lens flare is pretty nuts - somebody was talking about making a custom sunshade for it. Should I get mine before the superflu wipes us all out, I might try that.
All default settings for now and then will do more with my settings. Nothing should be this bad with default settings and in the end it's a cheap lens.
Really had high hopes for this drone but there still seems to be a good deal to iron out.

I want to love it but it's needing some forgiving at the moment!
You need to take a painter's ladder you can climb up on so you can get some elevation from your launch position in order to keep that signal a bit longer.
TIM MONTANO I need to adjust my height as it actually drops on that end with it being higher elevation. Just can’t post the numbers it will show on my scree recording.

I can't help wondering if, not landing on the take off point could be due to satellite drift, which would explain the first landing being way off (long flight), and landing in the same spot a short time later.
This is just something that I am getting started on but will pay more attention to in future videos showing precise landing. I think it's a Zino thing at the moment because again it's not so bad in my other quads.

I've already seen that lens flares in a different video and I think the lens coating is not the very best, respectively there is no coating on the front glass.
Very cool video and range test. Sadly I’m way too scared to fly over water again anytime soon, lost my mavic mini into a lake. Fly away literally right after takeoff. Looked like magnetic interference from the docks.

@@QCGUY good news. Got my analysis back from dji. Turns out it wasn't my fault or magnetic interference after all. It was the drones fault. They will be sending me a free replacement drone soon! :)
That was pretty wicked for heavily wooded area .Video light & dark contrast seemed pretty good apart from the slight bleed in corner maybe sun glare .
I'm pretty impressed with that flight...I know flying out you reported flight level 400 feet but once it was past that second reservoir near the highway just as it paused you didn't seem to be more then 150 to 200 above the treetops....Bet if you maintained a full 400 feet hight at that end the Zino could of gone further in distance....My one question would be what percent was your battery at touchdown?

It changes drastically in this area so that is a definite issue and your the first to actually catch on to that.
I need to look at the screen recording but I had a good bit of battery left. Enough to continue flying for some other footage not published yet.
It would be great a camera comparison between fimi x8, mavic mini and zino 2 D:... in paper zino 2 claims to be better, but now I’m not really sure... I ordered this drone 2 months ago, but now I’m starting to think if I should cancel it and buy something else, for example if autel Evo can give me a better quality (build, camera, controller, etc) for the price I can go for it, but if there is not a big difference with zino 2 I can keep waiting for it... what do you suggest me?

Not on the Z-2 but I have on the original and Z-P and simply cutting the nubs off the TX side of the cable resolves this and has been mentioned in some of my videos. Thanks
Yeah I watch one of your videos where you said to cut the knobs off and I did that and I’m still losing contact with the receiver to my phone I ordered a Zino pro core because it’s the only when I could find on Amazon hopefully that will fix the problem

When you landed, you had both antennae straight up. Did you try angling the antennae inwards at longer range, and did it make any difference to the FPV signal?
I adjust then all angles when signal is weak. No difference there but the issue is the elevation rises at the other end and I don't usually climb in altitude. That will help though....
I know this is really stupid but I'm wondering why the Zino 2 is the only video (and I've watched thousands) that appears to skip frames, any ideas? I've also watched Zino 2 videos from others and it does the same thing.

My Hubsan Zino pro has about 12 minutes of flight time per battery, really terrible flight time, kept losing connectivity even though I was in a wide open space in a fairly urban area. In sport mode it was doing 12 miles per hour tops. Fail.

Hi Chris any help or advice greatly welcomed. Flown many drones so am experienced. Bought a new Zino 2+ but even in the middle of nowhere the video feed to my phone starts breaking up at over 500 mtrs and lose picture completely between 1km - 1.5km. On returning i never regain the picture to phone even when still flying at 5 mtrs away. The video is great on my SD card, but i bought this drone for long range flights, so if you can not see where your going i have to return. Drone is not much better than a WIFI drone the way it is. Flown it 4 times and always hand launch and land my drones so not ever had a bad landing. So any idea's you have would be great. Thanks in advance, John

When trying to reach its maximum range, is it more efficient to run it in sport mode or normal mode? Or will it expend it’s battery at the same rate for the distance it’s traveling?
All depends on conditions for most of your battery usage but there isn't a big difference in usage for a range flight between modes. I don't know just how much one will use up over the other but can get my max range in either mode and make it back.
Will you switch cameras with your other unit to see how the video is on that camera?

QC hi i just got my zino plus 2 . now about thee update should i install it ?
Have you test phone at first? Is everything working fine? Are you pleased with it? Does the update offer you anything that you feel you have to have? In the update screen to the left it will tell you what that update is about. Read that and decide if it’s just minor changes which I usually advise people to to pass on or if it holds some great features you have to have.
Just one update from a company known for flawed updates can end it for you. Always remember that 👍🏻

@@JOHNNYEXPLORES718 Test fly it, see if everything works that’s important to you, look for odd behavior like false low battery warnings etc.
I don’t know your experience level so you may not know what to look for but before you ever think of updating test it and get to know everything about it and the app. Learn how to adjust your stick sensitivity so it’s more stable for your type of flying and after all that you may never want to update. Many never do and they have the best experiences.

Seemed to have to lower camera too much to not see props. Could be speed and wind. But great job again!

So is that a 26-minute flight time down to what percent?
When I caught it it had 1% and just dropped to 0% before turning it off. Cold temps and a little wind add into the use of battery percentage but that wasn’t bad at all. This was before Hubsan screwed up the battery meter between app and quad so now most are forced to land thinking they have very little battery when they actually really have much more if hooked up to a meter.
@@QCGUY does this problem still persist with the Zino 2 +?
Because I was seriously thinking about getting one but if there are still issues with it it may make me question the purchase
@@droneready8278 I dont know about current firmware but it seemed okay from what I recall.
The problem with Hubsan is always batteries and never fixing critical bugs.
Like I said mine has been okay and nothing to really complain about but many others have small to serious issues with bad product delivery out of the box.
I’m selling mine now so no more Z2+ here…

Is your zino 2 working good yet ?
That was resolved early on and was fine from there on or as good as a Hubsan can be.
