Always moved to tears... the last scene... a hymn to love. I think if I was to see but one opera in my life, in person, I would chose Turandot. Even more than Aida or Don Giovanni ... Tears run down my face every time I watch it. Such joy!
It's a bit like me crying like a kid at the end of La Bohème in the middle of the SFO House incapable of stopping and people wondering what the heck was wrong with me...
I did too in Verona when I was 12. I went on a camping trip with my mom and her friends and we went to see Turandot . I was bored at first but soon enthralled with their singing … the best performance I have ever seen from anyone ever !
+David Lounsberry You're in luck. Metropolitan Opera in HD is playing the live performance of Turandot in theaters IMAX. Check out theaters near you. Turandot will be playing live in HD thetaers nationwide on January 30, 2016. Just got myself tickets. Ticket is about 26 bux. Good luck
I had the opportunity to watch this with my mother. I thank my mother who was raised in Estonia and taught me the love of classical music. I did the same with my children and from a second marriage we had a daughter. When she turned three I did the same. I put together a CD with my favorite classical music. After four years of it she wanted me to stop. But what a thrill when I played this in my car she shouted out, “Puccini Dot!” I was almost in tears. She is now a freshman in college.
The Best stage performance, nicely done , great opera. I was proud to be part of it when i was eleven years old, in the chikdren Choir, i used to be in the Colon Theatre in Buenos Aires in 1971.
That's always up for debate. But I don't think anyone will question your personal taste of picking Puccini over Verdi, Rossini, or even Mozart. I watched it live for the first time yesterday's and its fair to say that it's unlike anything I've ever experienced, despite being familiar with the music.
Possibly, but his ongoing attempts over several years to complete Turandot were futile. The happy ending he envisioned for the Princess and Calef came too quickly after the death of Liu. My speculation is that the ending was at odds with his personal life, the full details of which did not become available until the 21st century.
magnifique !
I saw this at movie theaters - the Fathom Events Live in HD - it was great. Obviously I liked it enough to come look it up on RUclips! I love everyone singing at the end, it's beautiful.
Sin saber yo italiano, cuando descubrí Nessum Forma, me conmovió... Pero cuando pude escuchar Turandot hasta el final tiempo después en un momento esperanzado de mi juventud, las lágrimas de felicidad me embargaron y me enanoraron

@crespogod09 hi I'm almost 55 years but I can confirm "you are so right" my son with the age of 13 is already beginning to enjoy this kind of music. gerry Klagenfurt / Austria
@crespogod09 i also was in my teens when I discovered the opera, and now at 38, still hooked. There is absolutely nothing wrong with appreciating a wonderfull form of art as opera is.... When you can apperciate music like this, you will find out that you will start listnening to all other music in different perspective.
We all are thrilled by this finale but Puccini didn't compose this scene's particular music because he died of heart failure before completing the entire score.
Oh pleeeze.....all Operas are fussy. This happens to be one of my favorites (and I work in backstage production). If I wanted to hear a couple of people standing onstage, singing with minimal costumes and sets, I would listen to a recording. THIS IS WHAT REAL OPERA IS ABOUT!!
Nessun dorma (Nobody sleep!) is previous, the night before, when Calaf (here, Plácido Domingo) still doesen´t know which will be the princess final decision. Calaf sings in Nessun dorma "Al alba vinceró" (At the dawn I will win) and he was right.
@rumpwrestler First of all: I wasn't talking about the cast, but about the production, which in my understanding includes the staging and everything, which I like very much! Besides that, I think that it is very easy for you to say some people don't have any imagination if they prefer traditional productions, but that is not true! Some people simply like to dream when seeing an opera, sometimes I also prefer to be intellectually challenged (not only by the music) -> by the production.

I saw this live and nearly lost control of every faculty I had left by the end. Unimaginable and Unforgettable all at once!
Now that how every opera should be. It's not chamber music by any means.
Absolutely gorgeous. The consummate opera. @@bodeaalex1142

I've seen it. Twice. Once from Row D. I am beyond fortunate.
I was fortunate enough to have been on stage for this at the Academy Of Music in Phila....trust me, take your goosebumps and multiply by 100!...lol
My favorite opera.
This is the scene that made me fall in love with opera!!! This music reaches to the depths of the soul......brava!!!! Encore!
this makes us remember that la vita è un miraccolo

We saw this production at the MET and were just floored!
Brilliant, to say the least.
1.04 - 2.06: Top five in the history of music.
Long live Puccini!
Long live Turandot!
Long live classical music!
Sorry to burst the bubble.
The finale was not written by Puccini. He died before he could finish the opera
To reinflate that bubble, from 1.04 - 2.06 is the main Turandot theme, notably heard in Nessun Dorma
It's still Puccini's music

Se um dia assistir turandot posso morrer. Já vi a beleza na sua essência. MARAVILHOSO. Puccini eu me rendo a tua genialidade. 😢
I love Puccini,,,I think he is the greatest Italian composer ever, surely the most Romantic one greater then Verdi or Rossini!
That's always up for debate. But I don't think anyone will question your personal taste of picking Puccini over Verdi, Rossini, or even Mozart.

Puccini is the greatest VERIST Italian. That much is true.
@SickForest Great effort for the benefit of us all!!!! Congratulations and many many thanks !
truly magnificent today, I saw it live in HD. The highest form of human creation with our voices.
The best Final ever! Thank you Puccini/Alfano. What a Orchestra Sound! Full Brass. WOW
I think Puccini would’ve been pleased at how his unfinished opera turned out
Possibly, but his ongoing attempts over several years to complete Turandot were futile. The happy ending he envisioned for the Princess and Calef came too quickly after the death of Liu. My speculation is that the ending was at odds with his personal life, the full details of which did not become available until the 21st century.

La representación de ópera mas bella jamás realizada.

Yeesh, those sopranos in the chorus are just wailing. Still, probably the most beautiful stage set I have EVER seen for ANY opera.
