Here’s hoping for a major evolution of iPadOS at WWDC next month.
For me, together with margin note, it is indispensable for reading and writing in math books. But I guess if you aren't using it for learning anything then yeah it's just a big screen

I have the og iPad Pro, and always used the folding magnetic folio case. Whenever I take the case/cover off I’m always wowed by how slim it is, even to this day. I’m honestly so shocked they’ve managed to make it even slimmer 😮

No. You need the new keyboard (cause of the thinner chassis) and also the new Apple Pencil pro (or the usb c pencil, not the regular magnetic pencil because of where the charging section is vs the new camera placement)

A lot of money for just a device that you can read books, magazines. And watch youtube videos and answer emails. Perhaps if it was about 1/2 the price of what they are asking maybe. But does anyone really need a M4 Chip in the unit????
Whaaat? Really? My iPad is the most amazing device. It’s fast, easy to use. highly portable. I use it for studying, learning, reading sheet music while playing various instruments, for recipes in the kitchen, watching RUclips, taking online courses, and more. Perfect for travel too. To me, it’s worth twice as much. ***I must say that I only use mine with a keyboard. I can’t even think about using my iPad without the keyboard.
It’s an incredible device. Mine iPad Pro is now 5 years old and I’ll be getting the new one as soon as I it ships. Absolutely amazing value.
If you can't get with the program then stick with the I pad or air…

Look at the back metal of the iPad from an angle. They all have rippled metal since they are so thin. It makes them look like they are dented straight out of the box.

I completely agree. As a PC enthusiast, I don’t always understand the tribalist feelings that some people have with Apple. However, I use a mini as an e-reader and content consumption device (as well as for a little artwork in Affinity) and I’ve gotta say that it’s pretty much perfect for those tasks. The size is “choice” for e-reading. Ferris Bueller would agree.

For most things go for Mac.Even better, get the cheapest iPad and then a Mac Mini and get a mobile device and a desktop for the same price as an iPad Pro

Brighter and the nano screen hopefully makes it usable in full sun. That’s really all I want and they addressed it. Landscape camera too.
I used an iPad Pro for 3 years straight as my main computer for personal and work use and I gotta say: people underestimate the power of an iPad Pro.
Nobody underestimates the power except Apple. It's hilariously overpowered. The problem is the software. Literally all Apple needs to do is allow mac OS to be installed on the M series iPads.

@@nickthaskater iPadOS is neither better nor worse than MacOS. They just do things differently. Personally I wouldn’t want use MacOS on iPad as it’s not tap friendly at all. Traditional desktop environment is a nightmare to operate on tablet interface. What we need is tap friendly interface to do everything that Mac can do, and Apple has been closing that gap with latest iPadOS updates.
@@k.vn.k mac OS is "better" than iPad OS at running full desktop applications, better at leveraging the RAM and other resources, and it's better at multitasking. Apple put out a new Magic Keyboard and promotes precise control with a mouse, trackpad, and the Pencil. There's literally no reason Apple should prevent users from being able to install mac OS on iPad.

i want 14 plus inch screen like like s9 ultra. but the only think kinking up me buying it is that i can't find cases that large nor can i find a cupholder mount that can hold tablets that large. but the larger screen is incredibly useful especially if i am having speechify playing in the background as i am driving, im not gonna stare at the screen but if i need to glance over to read a sentence of what's being read the larger screen helps alot. yes there is a button to press to make the text larger but also button to see original page which is the view i like to use.
until i can find a cupholder mount and case for these larger options. i am considering just buying a 2nd laptop for travel. and my main laptop at home. i took my main laptop traveling and since then it hasn't functioned the same it is more glitchy now that it was, i think traveling with laptops might damage the components, but i never had that issues with tablets. so still a toss up of what i am considering.
As an Artist myself, the ipad pro 13 inch is so appealling with its feature and power...but...i am disappointed at them not making a bigger ipad..like 16inch. And also ..that price point is crazy ...
I hope in ipadOS 18 they add a bit more support with external drives SSD, possibly even an external disc drive too, some more options with Files app. People talk about MacOS on iPad, that would be horrible. BUT, they definitely need some type of software so the ipadOS can use full MacOS software, possibly some type of Rosetta translation os MacOS to IPadOS, i really want to be able to download Steam, Xcode and Unity.

I just ordered mine. this is going to be killer for editing and doing art. Notes as well which I use a lot. i will get the Pencil Pro later on. Hopefully my older Pencil work on the new iPad Pro

@@techfeanology6437 I see where you are getting at but I didn't shell 1500 for mine. I wasn't paying past that initial configuration. This is my first time buying the iPad Pro. Just bought it for futureproofing. I am not going to get another one for a very long time. It's not worthless for what I am going to do with it but at the same time, I can see your gripe as well.

Honestly as a digital artist, the best part about the new iPad Pro's is the fact that I can now get everything I wanted on the older gen iPad Pro's (size, processing speed, size options, OLED display) but on the iPad Air for basically the same cost as the old iPad Airs. The "last gen" iPad Pro was my sweet spot for what I always wanted in an iPad for art, but for the cost I could never justify it to myself, but this next gen of iPad Airs includes it all for half the price.
The most powerful processor hamstrung by a week operating system. Goodness me?

It is common knowledge that sales of tablets, not just iPads, have been stagnating for some time. Apple's keynote on May 7, 2024 seemed to me almost like a liberating blow to boost the market once again by adding more features and performance to the existing model types. I can't see the debut of the M4 processor in the iPad Pro any other way.
Basically, as a fan, I am thrilled with the technology that Apple has come up with for the new iPdPro. M4 chip, OLED display and a particularly bright one at that, which can also be ordered with a matte glass. Two display sizes, plenty of memory on request, a new Apple Pencil, which is now also "Pro", and more ...
Of course, this is a fantastic device with an incredible amount of power, plus even thinner and lighter, an absolute highlight. But I also wonder who is going to pay for it. The price of an iPad Pro with a Pro configuration is easily in the range of a MacBook Pro - and in that case I'd rather go for the MacBook.
Even with the configuration of the iPadAir, which is far less favorably equipped, you quickly reach the 1000 euro mark.
The more I think about it, the more the attempt to save the iPad seems a failure to me, because users these days are not necessarily looking for even more overdrive performance, for even more money, but will, if they are smart, stick with their old iPad Pro models. They may only have an M1 or M2 chip, but they are far sufficient for everything I can think of.
Of course, the hardcore users who seriously do video editing on the iPad will say that everything is even faster now, but I assume that 98 percent of all normal users won't notice the difference at all.
So the event didn't make me want to buy anything, rather the opposite. The iPad is in danger of losing its main focus. An overpriced super tablet for which there are only a few pro apps for pro users will not sell very well, not at this price. I still can't find a killer app myself that I like to use it for. For Final Cut and Logic Pro I have my desktop Mac and for on the go a MacBook is more attractive. So the final question for me is still: "iPad, where do you go?" 🤔
Sure am glad I am typing this on my $400 tablet with its $30 keyboard and bluetooth case combo. OH my tablet also came with the stylus at no additional cost!
Seems to work just fine for what I need all while being less than1/2, or really 1/3, the cost of what it would cost me for buying the Apple version.

Some very cool features but it seems like the iPad has gotten very niche. Unless you draw a MacBook Air is just a better option.
I have an 8th gen, tbh I’m not really sure which it is. It was $300 and I got the Brydge keyboard for it. It has worked well as a media consumption and internet browsing device.
Last we I picked up an M2 MacBook Air for $850. If I got the latest iPad Air and Magic Keyboard I’m looking at $1248 (same storage as 13” MB) and it’s still a mobile OS.

We witnessed today the end of an era…..so disappointed with the releases of the last 3 years, garbage after garbage…..why bother to get an M4 if there won’t be any apps just like today there are no apps for the M2 iPad Pro……I waited 2 years for apps that Apple promised and were never delivered by the developers, Pro tools, After Effects, even Maya was promised and never released…..so ask you, Mw CNET, why do we need an M4 chip for apps that could run easily with an old iPad pro from 2018?? Be honest with your audience. The financial situation of the country is edging poverty for most of Americans. It’s no time to advice people to buy things they don’t need…..nothing, and I mean nothing justify the upgrade, at least on the pro side. Nobody will notice the difference running an M1, M2 AND M4 iPad. I have the fort 2, and they run exactly the same. Same speed, same everything, like iPhone Pro Max 13/14 and 15. I have them all and they are the same. I see no difference at all using them……honesty is needed more than ever……typos by iOS……

As a hardcore fan of Apple I was pretty underwhelmed with the announcement of these new iPads.
I love all my iPhones and iPads, especially my 12.9 inch 2TB iPad Pro.
If I decide to add another tablet to collection I’ll get the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra, it already has many of the features of the just announced iPads but for far less money.
At least Apple finally finally finally started putting the front facing camera in the landscape position, that should have happened with the very first iPad ever released.
I have the old 2017 iPad Pro 12.9 inch but iPads still have the most atrocious file handling system ever despite all the updates
I was expecting that apple would say 'Ipad pro can now run macos dev tools like swift (full version not playgrounds), node, angular, react, etc)'. whose gonna buy with that price point? even my 7 year old ipad pro can do what i needed to do - watching netflix and run teamviewer to remote my mac.
So I bought a 2020 iPad Pro in 2021, so if I buy a a 2024 iPad Air which is really a 2022 iPad Pro ….my head hurts.

Thank you! With the iPad Pro, Apple has finally turned a gigantic iPhone into a small laptop! The iPad Pro has always had powerful hardware (and a hefty price tag!!!), but to be honest, there has never been software truly suitable for the iPad Pro! It was like having a laptop with iPhone software, and that was why iPads were only bought for kids, not for office use. Applications like Capture One, Photoshop, Acrobat Reader, Preview, file management, and closing an open program... everything is 10x harder or impossible with iPadOS! Hopefully, Apple will finally introduce a "MacOS" and not just iPhone software (marketed as "iPad OS") for the "modular MacBook Air with a touchscreen and stylus" (also known as "iPad Pro"), otherwise, Apple itself will be to blame for the downfall of the iPad Pro. Paying EUR 3,500 for a fancy laptop with iPhone software is an intelligence test, not a deal!
The Pro is amazing but I think it’s only worth it if you are using it for professional means. Iv ordered the air 13”. The pro would have been a whole lot of power wasted on me and the air is a bucket load cheaper.
For Artists, Illustrator, Animators, Musicians, Ipad Pro is the way to go. The rest of mortals Air.

For 2026, I wish ! , I envision a new size standard featuring a fully active screen: the iPad A5 with a 10-inch M7 MicroLED, the iPad A4 with a 14-inch M7 MicroLED, and the iPad A3 with a 20-inch M7 MicroLED. It's a logical progression, ..... isn't it?

I’m telling y’all that iPad Pro is going to flop…. It’s an amazing product, but a lot of people will find very hard to justify dropping nearly $2K or more on a device that can’t even run macOS because it’s artificially capped to force you to buy a Mac as well… I won’t be upgrading my iPad…

The pro models are for creatives/designers/advanced notetakers. If you don’t have those skill sets stick to the air, if you want programs and MacOS, Buy a MacBook.
