Okay, Im 29yrs old, Ive got a degree in Aircraft Engineering and National Diploma in Aerospace Engineering, Ive done all certificates required to approve an Aircraft to fly. Even though I have achieved all that, "Creative Design" has also been in the back of my mind. Only last year I made a decision to pursue my passion and I have taught myself graphic designs watching youtube videos. Now I've started my own media production company which also specialise in photography and video production. My message is, 1. Don't waste your life working hard for the sake of getting money, theres more to life. 2. Its never too late to change your career to do something you LOVE! 3. You don't have to go to University to become a Graphic Designer. 4. Following your passion will always give you a sense of fulfilment. Today, Im much more happier as a creative artist
Great post, and kudos on following what you wanted to do, that's awesome man I think there should be a middle way however. If you dream and your passion simply cannot pay the bills, and I mean, you are living on the edge every single month, then you should save up money in a different line of work, and then go into the passion fully. Ideally, I would love to live in a cabin in the woods, no money, grow my own food, etc, but that is probably never going to happen, simply because we are so conditioned to society as it is now. Love, compassion and passion are way more important than chasing money though, I agree. But money is important for health and comfort. No point in working yourself into an early grave for a little bit 'extra' though.
Oh yes, Definitely, you have to save up before you go in fully, perhaps that should be the 5th point Haha but for those who can't save up I believe the alternative way is to sharpen their skills through and through and start producing. Anyways, thank you for the efforts you put in to publish these amazing tutorials bro!!
I did multimedia in my middleschool for 6 years, and now I'm in college for 2 years doing graphic design. Unfortunatly my 'side classes' (like math, fysics, ...) arent great so I will probably fail this year. My practical classes like logo-design, drawing, .. are great ! I am a freelancer in my freetime and I get lots of jobs. I always believed that if you have the will and the spirit to be a graphic designer, you can make it :)
In case anyone is using an AZERTY/French keyboard, the key for #3 is ù right between m and *, I tried every key until I found the one! Thank you for the great video, I didn't know about #3.
One thing I do is hit Command H before doing the blend preview, so the selection highlights on the lines and anchor points are hidden, so you see the preview without distractions.
Thanks again for another great tut! I can't imagine why anyone would give it a thumbs down, but anyway...I guess it's life. Some people don't appreciate the amount of work others put in creating tuts.
Worked with Illustrator for 6 years - had no idea you could use the option key with the pen tool to add curves. In Animate CC you can bend lines like that, but it’s not a hidden feature.
Number 1 i recently found out about and has made my life more easier with design ! Number 3 and esp #4 has blown my mind! I have to get more acquainted with! Great tutorial always brotha
Hey man, I know this reply is a bit late but I just wanted to know how you succeed in the first tutorial. I have some lines I want to change but every time I click on the ALT key my pen tool turns into the "Conver anchor point tool". I just wanted to know if you have done something different or this is a function available only for the apple pc.
Hello, thank you for this video really interesting !! I'm french, I use a magic keyboard bluetooth, and I tried the third tip with the "~" shorcut, but I can't do it, this shorcut "option + n" in order to have the "~" doesn't work, I don't have this interesting effect neither with a polygon or with other tool shown in your video, can you help me ? thank you very much
I use an azerty keyboard and it didn't work with me at first but then when i changed from FR to EN in Language bar and with pressing the same key mentioned in the video it worked for me
hey thanks for the comment. I have read other people commenting about this on this video, but cannot remember. Read through the comments and you should find an answer 👍
Drew my shape using the pen tool, so I could practice the trick of changing straight lines to curves by pressing the OPTION (Mac), but my cursor changes to the "convert anchor point" arrow cursor. I'm using CS6. Is this trick only available on Adobe CC, or is there an equivalent hack for CS6?
I didn't know it was restricted to CC, that sucks! It gets annoying that certain actions are only for CC, but yeah I think in this case that may be the issue :( Going to PIN your comment so others can read it also, thanks
No prob. Although I'm very accustomed to drawing curves the old fashioned way with the pen tool and then refining with the direct selection tool in Illustrator CS6,...in the software that I use for digitizing embroidery designs,...I'm able to manipulate entire line segments in the manner that you showed with the CC Pen Tool. It's all good though,...but I love a good hack when I can get one ;-)
haha sorry it didn't work out for you, are you ever going to think of upgrading to CC? I have a few hacks on this channel, some are quite old videos though ..
Probably won't upgrade to CC because I think it's just a way for Adobe to squeeze more blood from a turnip...sorta shameful to see them go the CC route. Love CS6, and subscribed to your channel long ago to see some of those hacks. It's all good !!
Does the first tip works with CS6? when i tried holding alt/option key it turned into "convert anchor point tool" and didn't give me an option of pen with curves, do i need to change any preferences?, please advise, thanks
Hello, i'm french, i have a french version of illustrator and a azerty keyboard, for the multiplication function, it's the " ù% " key at the right of the " m " key !
Thanks. As for the first tool, I had already seen it in other tutorials but was never able to get it work holding the Alt key or any other key (it doesn't appear or appears on very rare occasions but then doesn't work at all anyway... strange). It is also greyed out in the control menu. I do know why it doesn't work. I do not use an english 'interface' with Adobe Illustrator. Fortunately, the curve pen tool - or whatever it is called in english - gets the job. On my keyboard, the Tilde key is not located at the same place as it is on english keyboard : it doesn't work with the shape tool. I cannot have fun with it.
That's harsh that the first one doesn't work for you, are you using CC? If not then that may be the reason why it doesn't work. If you look through these comments on this video, some people have found the right key on non English keyboards, maybe that one works for you?
Whoooooow another nice one. Couple the first tips with the smooth tool (to the design less saturated with nodes) then it gives you a superb thing but .... the 3rd technic is the best of the bests in this video tuto. i think i will give blending mode a bit of rest. Hey Tom your are Blessed.

Grüße aus Augsburg
Do you mean the anchor points and handles? If that is what you mean, you need Illustrator CC to access this. It is in the preferences under the 'anchor and display' section

How you made such big nodes and handles?
You need to have Illustrator CC, they offer settings and preferences for that
Ammmnnn…. Thank you for a reply. Do have Illustrator CC, Only know way -> Preferences->Selection & Anchor Display and there three options - and they do not provide desired result for me. with me the tip where you talk about the shape tools dont work
is because my keyboard is querty and not azert? if yes what is the key for querty?
Probably that is the reason. I am not sure the solution for this, try searching on Google 'tilde key illustrator won't work' or something like that
i dont found a solution on google and i also have try any key with a combination of CTRL and ALT and dont work i dont know if it is just on this pc or if is something else
But tell me the name of the tool is linked on the tilde hotkey maybe i can find something with the name of the tool/function
And thank you for answer trying helping me ^^

Hi. I cant do your 2nd tip pencil tool. I try lot more time. but not working. can you Explain.
The Number 1 trick is not working for me. Can anyone please help? I really need that feature.
Sorry to hear that, I think it may be because of the Illustrator program you have. I have a feeling it only works with CC?
But I have the CC version. If so I'll try it out of someone else's PC.
omg the #3 blew my mind thank you so much!!!!
haha thanks for the comment Lee, glad to hear I blew your mind

I have a question: where are the large control handles set in the illustrator?
Do you mean the anchor points and handles?
If that is what you mean, you need Illustrator CC to access this. It is in the preferences under the 'anchor and display' section
30/5000
I do not see the size option there ...
