  • I didn't want to have to remove any of my Tesla wall connectors and replace them with J-1772 chargers. Luckily there are adapters that still give you 48 amps!

    The 40A Lectron has been perfect for me with my e-tron. The extra reach just happens to work perfectly for where my Tesla Wall Charger is to where the charge port is and my wall charger is on a 50A breaker and set to 40A max anyway. I was thinking about getting the 48A to leave in the trunk though for trips…

    You had one of the first videos showing the load sharing with the Tesla wall connector. Why did you decide to install the Rivian power supply vs changing to a Tesla wall connector with the J1772 that way you won’t lose the load sharing?

  • @deenibassam3002
    @deenibassam3002 Год назад

    You mentioned that you were getting a Rivian connector. Did you installl it? Can it load share with your Tesla connector? Just wondering why you would install a Rivian connector instead of a Tesla J1772 connector in your situation. Thanks for the video. I have a Tesla and thinking of getting a Rivian and wondering how best to charge both and load share a 60 amp breaker.

  • @barryhomes1
    @barryhomes1 Год назад +1

    I'm already there. I have the Lectron adaptor (48 Amp). It's cool you checking out Rivian home charger but you will likely prefer the tesla setup better. Tesla charger communicate with each other so well. (FYI, the older 80 Amp Tesla charger it won't work at 80 amps. I had to switch it down to 48 Amps. It's likely the Lectron prevents it for UL reason). Great video as alway. Thx Barry :-)

    • @rmorgenstern
      @rmorgenstern Год назад +1

      To confirm, the chargers communicate with each other to load balance & there’s no dependency on communicating with the car; so the load balancing will work among two tesla wall chargers w one connected to a rivian and one connected to a Tesla ?? Thanks !!!

    • @barryhomes1
      @barryhomes1 Год назад

      @@rmorgenstern yes that is true the load balance is communicated between the testa chargers. However (for UL reasons I suppose) the Lectron adapter stops the charge. There is a communication between the car and the charger (Tesla Cambus and CCS PLC). Lectron’s adapter has to determine the charge doesn’t exceed the adapters max charge rate. If it reads the charge is greater then 48 amps it wont charger.

  • @stephan9487
    @stephan9487 Месяц назад

    Been using that adapter now for a couple weeks. Any time I need it to charge the r1S for more then about an hour straight, it stops charging and throws a red light on the wall charger and a red ring on the r1. Car screen says “waiting for charger”. App says red lightning bolt and “charge error”. Once I remove the adapter the wc green light comes back and I can plug back in and it charges again. 🤷🏾‍♂️. Tried at both 48A and 40A. Same failure.

  • @ariip
    @ariip Год назад

    They also sell teslatap adapters for j1772 vehicles that do up to 60a and 80a. The fact is that when we bought our first was connector it was only the 2 wall connector on the market which does up to 80a charging and have obtained 2 more used gen 2s rather than buying gen 3s at only 48a max. I could care less about or need the wifi capabilities. The gen 2 can still communicate with wiring between them for load sharing anyway. What happens when the cybertruck comes out and it can charge at more than 48a, then you are stuck. 26mph on a pickup is not fast enough if you drive a bit during the day. I also wanted to buy a spare umc as well to have in case there is a problem with the gen2 that was out which only does 32a on a nema 14-50, so I bought a second one used which was a gen 1 instead which does a full 40a. Why settle for less speed and capability.

  • @RS2Diego

  • @KhalilAmar

    A phone charger can be called charger. But these are not chargers. They're wall connectors. They provide AC power to the onboard charger within the car. Which in turn transforms AC to DC and injects power to the cells via the BMS.

    Are these things at least 99.99% sure that they won’t cause any issues and even if they don’t and the Rivian battery has an issue totally unrelated, your battery warranty would be void having used this 3rd party piece of equipment.
