As per the cost, please note that with the $12.99 plan per month plan, you get the same price as Tesla drivers. As much as 30% cheaper. You can choose to only pay for that month that you're going on a long road trip. Or you can pay a one time payment of $99 for a whole year. That's basically the cost of one fill-up on an ICE F-150. So yeah, it's still cheaper than gas even if you can't charge at home.
The only negative is that you are essentially taking up 2 spots to charge 1 car. A Tesla cannot park next to you and use the charger that is now empty because the plug will not reach.

Appreciate the attempt to explain the different charging port locations and the challenges associated with charging a Rivian at a Tesla Supercharger, but man, made me dizzy!
Why can't we standardize the charge point location? As a Tesla owner this will get frustrating at busy stations as you're essentially taking up 2 bays since this is on the front drivers side... However, I love that there is an option for charging non-Tesla vehicles, as the Tesla Supercharger Network is amazing, and simple to use. also, is the speed of charge significantly slower??? That seems really slow to charge for over an hour
I thought it came out that rivian isn't compatible until 2024 with tesla? Is it just a slower charge for now??? I dont get how your plug in fit when they said its not available until next year.
Please note that if all non-Teslas park next to each other and take the stall to their left; while Teslas also park next to each other but take the opposite stall on the other side of the site, only 1, or at worst 2, stalls will be lost in all even if the rest are all full. Also, Tesla has now upped the maximum AMP's for non-Teslas to 500, so the Rivians can now achieve over 200kW's charging speeds at Superchargers.
I noticed something you missed. $.59 a kilowatt hour in my area is generally at the peak of usage. On a Tesla. On the screen when you open it for the charging station location. It shows you the cost of the kilowatt hour. Based off the time of day. In other words if you’re charging between 11 o’clock at night and 9 AM in the morning. It’s 11. Cents a kW hour. Now all the stations are different. And yes I have seen $.59 a kilowatt hour. And I’ve also seen $.11 a kilowatt hour. Each station will be different. The three new stations in my area. At this time are all set to $.35 a kilowatt hour 24 hours a day. I’m sure that’ll change as they establish that charging station.
Depends on the charger and the state, but the thing is you only have to use these chargers when you're on the road. When you're not on the road traveling you can charge at home for much much cheaper than gas.
So do you know the price per Kw before pulling in or even before charging? I could be wrong, but I think gas stations have to have their prices on the marque. Then, they also have their prices on the pump.
supercharging stations are not cheap, unfortunately. Charging at home on a regular basis would be your best option if you want to save money, which is what most EV owners do.
I think Rivian moving to the NACS plug is a big deal. Owners won't have to worry if the superchargers near them have the adapter and theoretically any supercharger station should work. After owning a model 3 for a few years, I always told people that the supercharger network single-handedly made Tesla THE brand to own because of how reliable and fast the charging was. There were a few times I tried to charge at EA stations and not only did I encounter malfunctioning chargers but also extremely slow charging to the point where it wasn't even worth my time. I'm back in an ICE vehicle for now but that R2 looks SHARP and I'll be checking the reviews when they are released.
