This is absolutely genius.
I agree!
Exactly what I came here to say!
This is perfect, I would absolutely love to print these out myself, and take my Rivian out camping. As someone who has back problems, I can't really camp using a tent, so this is the next best thing. I should also note that I would be willing to buy these as well.
Great to hear you are interested! Do you have the capability to 3d print at home?
I love the simplicity and elegant 3D printed parts. That's an awesome setup from James!!
It really is! 🙌🏻
Hi Everyone, I went ahead and made my own platform, just took some time measuring this all up and I think I made it personalized even better, custom shape so it is wider at the front of the R1S and also built the tailgate piece solid so nothing slips around on that end and the Studio boxes are perfect. Also added Carpet over each piece to hide the holes in the wood and make it nice on the sleeping pad. Best hint was also those great little lights. Several nights now 'camping' and it all works great. Thanks for the inspiration to move on this project.
Do you have an details or plans on the platform you could share?
I'm also interested in PDF type plans for what you came up with, if you are willing to share
Well done sir, I have my R1S coming and I love this set up.
Thanks! James did a great job with this setup👏🏻
i don't even have a rivian but this guys setup might have just changed my mind on what i want to get next...
It’s a great setup 🤘🏻
Hi James, I am also an R1S owner and really like the simplicity of your set up. I would totally purchase a set of your 3d printed parts if you wanted to set up a little store or whatever. I could make these from wood but as you know, the plastic is lighter and most likely stronger. Love your simplicity. Let me know if and when you set this up. Love it.
Agree. I would give coin for this. Let us know if you ever decide to sell, I would take a whole setup
I'm in as well for the 3D printing.
Count me in!
Same here!
Same here
What a great setup and I'm sure people appreciate the info on where to purchase some of these items!
Omgosh! I would LOVE the SUV just to car camp! We do it in our Jeep Grand Cherokee but to have the extra length and frunk for storage would be a game changer. James did an AMAZING job with the platform and storage bins! 🙌🏽🙌🏽
He really did create an awesome setup🙌🏻
Using my Amazon Roof Blocker from the forums! Right on man! Love the setup.
That platform and James is genius and this channel is such an excellent resource, awesome and big thanks!
He is a smart dude for sure! Thanks for watching 🤘🏻
Very interesting in the 3D files! Thanks.
All of that linked in the description! 👍🏻
@@ChargeOverlandI don't see the 3D files linked
Bro. I'm James, and I came to this vid because I wanted to do exactly this with exactly that SUV 😂 Your intro had me shook
James crushed it! Picking up my R1S at the end of the month... might just build everything in the video between now and then.
He really did! You should do it🤘🏻
Dood so cool! Thanks for showing this off!
Of course!🙌🏻
Great setup. Maximizes the space back there and the extra storage under the sleeping platform is great to have
Really is a great setup!🤘🏻
Amazing! Very cool!
Thanks!
This answered my question in your other video. It seems like the R1s is more functional than carrying the icamper on the R1T, esp in adverse weather.
Im going to save this in case I do get the rivian, this is dope dope dope 🎉
This is such a great setup, well thought out, every bit of it. I really appreciate the files being shared for the 3D printed parts. Is James also willing, able to share the custom 3D lamp clips with metal ball tips for the reading lights?
I noticed he is using some type of compressed plywood for the boards with clever holes for the points where it connects to the 3D printed tips that stick up. Does he also have the measurements for where theses holes need to be on each board?
Many many thanks!!
Your friend is amazing!! Love it
Agreed! 🙏🏼
we got our 3 weeks ago.. I have posted few small videos.. great SUV but not perfect. Soon I will post a few early observations and I already made a service appointment.
This setup is so awesome!!
Right?! James did a great job with this setup🙌🏻
Very cool!
Really great build I was wondering how to block out the windows in the R1S as I was thinking about camping this way!
He did a great job for sure👍🏻
Not sure I understand the point. Those 3 boxes can just site on the side and then you sleep on the other side. You can also use the spare tire compartment for extra storage and the frunk. I do like the lights and the inductive stove. Would love to see a "velcro board " to protect the split gate when cooking and to use as a cutting board.
This would allow 2 people to set in this configuration. Having more width is better than head height.
Looks like they describe the purpose @2:07. to separate everything and have more room while sleeping
Main purpose was to have a good size sleeping space with storage underneath that didn’t need to be moved for sleeping. Lots of possible solutions out there for sure!
Great setup. I would love the files for the 3d printed parts.
Wow! So impressed!
The floor board / storage system is more effort than I would go through. With the mattress on top he has to be getting fairly close to the roof.
Fair enough! He’s happy with the space but maybe not the the best solution for everyone
Amazing set up! Love It!
very very nicely done
Agreed this is perfect, do you know if James would be willing to make these and sell them? I would certainly be interested in buying this setup.
Dude super cool! I have an R1S looking to do something similar. I’d like to connect if u are in the LA area.
I am! Shoot me a message on instagram let’s chat 👍🏻
So dope!
👍🏻🙌🏻
Love you content! Just one suggestion regarding when you talk to the camera is to not continue looking away every few sentences. It was something that just stuck out and consistent through your videos.
Thanks for the feedback! I’ll keep this in mind👍🏻👍🏻
If you ever decide to make and sell this setup, I would be interested in buying it. Maybe post a follow up with a link,if you do.
I would totally do this for my R1S. Any links to the design files and specs on the modular wooden panels?
Looks like there's a link to the files in the description
Where do we get the cutting boards?
This is great work. Bravo!
Could an owner fit a 80" long sleeping pad behind the first row? Thanks.
Thanks! So James is using a 72” sleeping pad but I believe the max length dimension is 81” so you probably could fit an 80” pad
@@ChargeOverland Sweet! Thanks so much for following up. At 6’6”, you’ve made my day.
Could you ask James if a simple PDF version of the parts might be uploaded with all the other amazing information. I would find the dimensions very helpful for those of us without 3d printing capabilities. I know my way around a router and jigsaw but the plastic world is a little tricker. Thanks in advance if that is possible. All the links to the gear and that foam hack is super cool. Ordered me some of that last night.
I will for sure! Saw your email as well - I’ll get back to you soon👍🏻
What are the dimensions for the 3030 Aluminum? I figure you have already cut them to size and if you had the measurements for each piece and how many of each size, that would be very helpful.
This is an awesome setup and love the reading lights too. Question though, where did he get the suction magnetic heads for the light when he had them in the back windshield.
Will get this info for you and respond soon!
@@ChargeOverland thank you and looking forward to it. Keep up the great adventures and content. 👌🏽
I have the same question. I see several options for suction cup ball mounts, but I’m looking for the iron ball ones that were used in this setup.
By any chance are those R1S blackout panels for sale?
Way cool!! What does James use for ventilation when he's sleeping--does he have some sort of screen set up for the passenger windows that lets air in but keeps bugs out? Really interesting and really creative solutions--I would guess James is either an engineer by training or just really mechanically inclined. Thanks for sharing!
He uses camp mode, if that’s what it’s called on the Rivian.
Yup as Shane said he can lightly run the HVAC in Camp Mode to keep it cool/warm inside. This is his first iteration of this idea and he’s already working on some other cool solutions for nets - can confirm he’s definitely a very creative guy!
Will you duplicate it and sell it as a kit? Love to have the plans!
So the link for the 3d files is in the description if you were interested in building yourself - definitely a possibility that we could create a whole kit in the future👍🏻
@@ChargeOverland I don't know how to open or access the file... any chance you could convert it to a PDF that I could attempt? That or I bet if you built several you won't have any trouble selling them complete..
Thanks!
Woah. Wow
Looks very nice. Would you care to share 3d printing files for this project? Thanks
They should all be linked in the video description👍🏻
This is really cool, I'd love to build it for my R1s. I see in the links there's the file for the 3D printed parts, but I don't see details on the framing dimensions or the plywood details. Am I missing something?
There are plans in the 3d file but he is working on putting together a pdf as well for the non 3d printed parts👍🏻
A pdf would be great, I don't have a 3D printer on any software to open the file. Thanks for the info@@ChargeOverland
Is he sharing the SLA/STL plans for the headrest light or does he have a store we can buy them?
I hope someone would start selling this on Amazon lol
Hey, how did you make your custom window shades? Currently I'm using fitted mesh screens but then have custom (poorly) cut black tarp that I sandwich in. It's perfect once they're, I can have 100,000 candle power lighting inside and it looks pitch black from the outside... but being that each window uses two pieces is a pain...
Never mind, soon as I sent that you chat about it... haa! Bravo by the way...
Thanks! James did some great work with this setup 👏🏻
Is there a link to the aluminum 3D parts?
Wow, Rivian has has done well by getting some cool features I like in my Disco 4. Spit tailgate and completely flat folding seats. Both such a cool features I would miss switching my ride. Even newer LC's and LR's don't have split tailgate anymore. And not too many cars have completely flat folding seats. Too bad Rivian isn't in Europe. We only have pointless and expensive city-SUV's like Mercs, Volvos and Audis...
Hopefully someday they will be available in Europe!
So McGuyver owns an R1S. Who would of thought...🤔
Great setup. Can you share the 3D print files wirh me?
There’s a link in the description👍🏻
So, when are these going to be available?
You can build out this kit on your own using the links in the description but nothing for sale at the moment as a full kit to buy
Thanks for the informative video. Can you share James' contact info since the .STL files, in his printables link above, appear to be corrupt and can't open?
How’s the air in the S with everything closed. I wouldn’t want bugs to get in
You can run camp mode and it’ll keep the HVAC going lightly so there is still airflow👍🏻
What does he use for the cover in the pano roof above the third row??
He said it's from an RV windscreen cover.
@@TheBowerbird I asked for the third row. Not the main pano roof.
He cutout a custom EVA panel for that as well using 4mm foam 👍🏻
Oh its for storage… lol I was wondering why you did all that since the seats all lay flat AND the dang vehicle has a camping level system 😂
Storage is definitely a big reason but as far as I know the camp level system doesn’t account for the slight angle you get with the seats folded flat 🤔
Interested in the part file
I would buy these 3D parts! Let me know!
Can I buy this from you? (Are you selling?) thanks
At this point he just has the info/files shared in the description link for people to build on their own. Maybe some day I can convince him to sell them ;)
How much?
