I was born in the 70´s. Saw a lot of movies at the theatre but not this one. Just recently, an old movie theatre had a cycle dedicated to Friedkin after he unfortunately passed away. I went to watch three out of four movies and the first one was To Live and Die in L.A., which i´ve watched at home several times. When it was over, I was amazed and still am. I can honestly say that this was probably the best experience I´ve ever had watching a movie in a big screen !
RIP Mr. Friedkin. One of the best films of its genre for sure. Timeless classic. A true testament of a great director, who can often bring out the best in an actor and in this case does so.

Petersen played a more likable and sympathetic character in Manhunter a year later. He was an unknown when this came out, had a bit part in Thief as a bouncer and that was it.
Had me on the edge of the seat & they said they filmed this movie scene sequence last because of anyone getting hurt the film would still be good to go because William Peterson did most of the driving no CGI crap all real
LOL that's awesome how they still used the scene of him jumping up and running along the escalator , they said the hell with It , this guy Is NOT messing up this shot for us. You can feel the raw Intensity all through this movie and that's the reason everything truly feels like thrilling down and dirty sleazy smoggy 80's LA life living on the edge. Such a timeless classic despite capturing It's dated time period better than any other 80's film of It's kind.

I just found out today that Christopher Allport died in 2016. you know who he was, rick masters bodyguard. Made that 12 gauge shotgun look tiny in his hands. sad but then none of us lives forever. Rest in peace friend. Or as he would say "freeze it up, pal"

I think you might mean Jack Hoar, Masters pal who said "freeze it up pal". Christopher Allport played the attorney Max Waxman in the movie.
