My favorite crime thriller, that is why I can only see it once every 3 years or so, such to the extent where that scene still hits hard when he gets blasted. Thanks for the upload.
Why haven't Dafoe and Peterson done any movies together since "To Live and Die in LA?" They had an edgy, electric, bad chemistry between their characters: "I have a friend in Palm Springs, Lenny Green, you know him?" "I have a friend in Hollywood, Donald Duck, you know him?" These two talents should be reunited on screen.
The chase is the best on film. It just keeps going and going and getting more and more surreal. Initially just two pursuers, it blossoms into several turning up everywhere ('all over $50k??' you wonder) and you are every bit with Peterson & Pankow emotionally in that chase. Friedkin refrigerated an entire set so the characters in "The Exorcist" would breath vapor, not just act cold. He goes all the way with his films.
What a GREAT, wonderfully classy interview all around. Nice job, Ben. Friedkin was a cinematic master and it's wonderful to have his insights and behind-the scenes stories preserved. Bravo!
Great interview by Ben. I love how Billy Friedkin cops to being just like his protagonists, obsessed with his mission. Art and reality collide. So iconic, and a tribute to the man. RIP Billy Friedkin.
@@scottherriott4828 Streaming is over-rated. Especially if illegal. Amazon used to have a service called LoveFilm : they post the discs to your home, and then you post them back in the envelope supplied. Only 8 pounds a month. So affordable. Why didn't more people keep subscribing instead of streaming for free from unknown websites?
When I was a kid, I wanted the typical hero in films. This movie disappointed me then. Too dark. I wanted Lethal Weapon. Over the years, I can't stomach the formulaic cop films anymore. They're boring. They don't offer anything. But now, this movie is at the top. Yes, it's dark, but it's a warning not to go down this hole or you may be forever stuck. Great moral.
I always liked the non Hollywood ending. Probably why this is one of my favorite movies although there are plenty of reasons to love it. And if you've gone to the dark side another movie you should check out is The Counselor. Another moral fable about dabbling in trouble you won't be able to get out of. Stellar cast and the only screenplay Cormac McCarthy ever wrote. It's genius and oh so twisted.
For those who don't know, the secret service actually uses this film to show new hires how counterfeiting is done, thats the level of detail thats in the picture. But even more than the guy getting killed at the end is the other cop beating Janet Leigh and getting killed within about ten minutes. It even has that cliche of "what are you going to do when you retire" which is a bit overdone, but you really don't expect it that early in the film.
RIP William. TLADILA is an absolute classic.
Why can’t your generation spell anything out?
@@jnnx Because we haven't got much time left.
love the scene where Dafoe breaths onto the plates to show the notes engraved on it..all to the excellent soundtrack by Wang Chung.

William Peterson was great in this movie and Manhunter.
Two of the most underrated movies ever.
Incredible movie.....perfectly cast. RIP Billy Friedkin.
Billy Friedkin and Walter Hill.the best.

Love everything about this film especially the writing.
Really great movie and the sound track is Outstanding.
Right on, Wang Chung was a very bold choice, and 80's period perfect. Just gets better and better with age.
I can FEEL the heat coming off the LA blacktop when I hear that title song.

Thanks for posting this. The film is one of my favorites (as is the soundtrack), and the car chase is just perfection (well, the whole film is). ❤☮🌎
Amazing film by Friedkin and for those of you who may be in the dark try and find Sorcerer a little known but another amazing film by him.
Never seen Billy Friedkin without his glasses before. He looks really strange. RIP Bill and thank you for all you gave to cinema.
Rest in Peace Billy
This great film finally gets a long overdue upgrade with a brand new 4k blu-ray in Dolby Vision/HDR10, to be released by Kino Lorber on July 18, 2023.
Any idea why it isn't available for streaming?

I own it great 4k
The subtext of the movie is very spiritual. The subplot behind the narrative.
Yep. Live by the sword - die by the sword. Just like Friedkin mentioned in the interview.
Adiós, Billy, que la tierra te sea leve, maestro.
To Live and Die in LA is a masterpiece. Tarantino wishes he could make a film like that

"protecting dignitaries"
"investigating counterfeits"
turns out those are not mutually exclusive goals
When I was too young to drive, I would lean out the back window screaming "Get out of the way"!
Petievich was an actual service secret agent ?!! great trivia, and great video. Hail TCM
This movie isn’t available to stream anywhere. Its frustrating.
I will always miss you dear friend 😢🌹❤️
....his The Sorcerer is great and still unknown.
Trying to think what chase scene is best. The French Connection or To Live And Die In LA

You can't buy this in digital format.
dvds are scarce too I was lucky to find one on ebay. Definitely worth keeping this great movie.
The Blu Ray isn't rare, it's like $23 just buy it and burn your own digital copy.
@@debrapaulsonphotography-da4857 That's what I did, too.
Why does W.F. look like that? My god. A horror show.
Wow, Friedkin looks bad here, no wonder. RIP
He looks great, looks like he is mid to late 20's.... are you jealous ?
Younger Larry King, just looks. Not good lol
Most S/A in the USSS are boxes of rocks intellectually.
Badass movie. Great actors. Eric Masters killed it !! His bodyguard was hardcore too. Awesome 👍
The guy who portrayed the bodyguard to Eric Masters, was Jack Hoar. Hoar was a longtime LAPD officer at the time.
@@michaelthomas2916 he seemed like a tough guy for sure. Love that movie .
