I use a total eclipse envy as my approach disc. I actually have 3 envys in different plastics. The total eclipse is the most stable and reliable by far. I have a standard neutron for my straight thrower. If I need a short turnover shot, I use a well seasoned electron envy. I honestly believe with the range of plastic types that the envy is one of the most versitile discs I've ever used.
Solid video! I think that confidence in the yärn is why it won by that large of a margin since I believe that golf/disc golf is so largely mental. I am also team tactic (I bag 4)
This video is enthralling to watch as an amateur thrower. The amount of effort you’ve put into your videos is obvious to see, I can’t believe you don’t have more followers. Loved the glow video and the glow tempo is my go to overstable approach disc. It glides a little bit more than the zone and is forgivable as hell.
I was disappointed with the Rat when it first came out because it's much straighter than most Zones, but I came back to it later and fell in love. I consider it a Zone SS.
Happy Thanksgiving! I was surprised by the rat and not surprised either the Jarn won. Absolutely loved this video! Loved how you broke it down with different shot types and at a reasonable distance with an actual target.
I have bagged a nerve temple for the past two years. She is very warped now but still always fights out. With the softness of the nerve plastic it barely skips
I miss the DD Culprit in the lineup. By far the best overstable approach disc in my bag. I love it so much i bag two of them. Dont want to take the risk of losing it out on the course! I really like the Tempo as well. Thank you for sharing Greg!
Glad you kept saying, “for me”. I personally love the discs you did not (Harpoon and Area 51). Both have a very shallow rim for my smallish hands, when used on forehands. On the flip side, many of the discs you liked do not work for me because of the deeper rims. In the end, it all depends on what works for the individual. Great video!
I haven’t seen many zones tbh. I throw a harp. And it’s probably my most used disc other than my judge/swan putters. When I need more beef I throw the anvil
K3 Jarn is my go-to. I don’t do touch BH with it, but I love it on 180-200’ flat or ani. In tournaments, I get more questions about my K3 Jarn than anything else, much more overstable that the K1, but I like the K3 for the rubbery tackiness! Great video!
I love the Mint from Clash discs. I have it in the softy plastic so it sticks where it lands. Has reliable fade and is super reliable for me. Would definitely recommend!
as a discmania thrower, I gotta say that the drop is not a standard approach disc, It’s a utility disc and so is the tactic because they’re basically the same same thing. if you want an approach disc, which will beat everything you’ve tested get the cosmic stone, C line logic. that thing will do everything you wanted to do and more
Alright, six sided discs makes the best DG content. Also for the past 2 years I have bagged all discraft made discs(dga as well) EXCEPT for the a3. Absolutely underrated...no matter how loved they are.
good stuff there, Greg! As soon as you mentioned that you were going to throw the Jarn in there, I said, I bet that will be the best one simply because it’s the one you’re most familiar with. Good final point about practice and how much having trust in the disc really matters. Thanks so much. Happy Thanksgiving.
Good points w/ the trust in discs. I've bagged the Axiom Tempo as my main approach disc immediately after the 2023 MVP Circuit Challenge. I could just tell the Tempo was for me. There are brief moments when me & Tempo don't get along, but it's usually on me when I lack trust in my skill & in the disc. So even a bad day w/ a trustworthy disc, I know a good day is around the corner once I bring back my trust.
I'm bagging a Sinus (old model with grip areas) and a Berg in this slot. Sinus for when I need a bit more speed and straight'ish shots with reliable fade, and Berg for shorter approaches and tricky lines that rely on stability and being able to break out of anhyzers 110% of the time.
I've used a Lightning #2 Driver as my overstable approach disc since 1996. It's technically a fairway driver, but powered down it truly is a great approach disc.
I use the Tempo and the Jarn. The Tempo can push and essentially acts like a less stable zone but more stable Envy. The Jarn is my "dive bomber" in K1 soft. It's between the Zone and Zone OS in stability. The K1 soft also helps the dosc land and not skip when landing hard nose down. Hence why I love "dive bombing" it.
Ive got two Tempos and a gummy soft zone. Totally different discs for me. Use the Tempos for anything ~250-300. My favorite disc. Zone for short drives and approaches
Greg, great video loved the content I have thrown most of the discs in your test. over the years bagged the Roc, Tactic, Jarn, Verdict, BUzzz OS, GATOR, harpoon, and sinus. I dont FH the Jarn and found it to be less accurate with my level of skill than the verdict or razor claw BH I use the Envy mostly but occasionally the gator or anvil. The Jarn was no match for me backhand against my gator when it came out I kept trying to make it fit my bag since I bag several other Kasta discs. But since I watched your video I now have to try the Wild thing since you had it dialed in BH. I like watching Caleb huck but your more my speed fun watch keep it up brother..
I had a really hard time getting used to the loft neon, especially because of its 1 glide. That being said, as it broke on a bit and I got used to it, it's one of my favorite discs now and im very accurate with it
Good stuff! Let's see you and Caleb try out different -2, 2 discs, like the Valkyrie. You never know, what you're gonna get with those, they may be crazy over- or understable. Exhibit number one, Halo Valkyrie vs DX Valkyrie etc...
I'm going to bring a critique here, but before I do I want to say that this channel is bringing some of the best disc review content that there is and I appreciate you all. I'm also sure this 28min video took a long time to make, so I feel guilty saying it, but... The sample size of this type of comparison needs to be larger. A few poor throws are killing certain disc's 'ratings' versus other discs without poor throws. The results here are compromised because some discs are punished bc they happen to be victim to a miss release. That said, this offers a fantastic reference for the shape of each disc and some helpful input on the hand feel.
I appreciate your approach to this comment and for sure, I understand there's some outliers. One of the reasons I published the data for people to review was so they could remove those outliers and probably see a less extreme comparison, but of course, it is very subjective and personal to my taste and experience, as is shown by the fact the Jarn was the best.
In my head, 30ft is basically outside circle 1, since I can miss a putt from 30 and 33ft all the same, but you are correct! Must have missed that when I was writing.
The Tactic will likely sell better when it comes out in the C-Line and S-Line plastics, and its sufficiently differentiated from the Razor Claw. They really are 2 different molds, and blurring the lines between the 2 discs (I think) makes people choose one over the other. And people are going to go with the Razor Claw as a more stable alternative to the Tactic. I prefer the Tactic to the Razor Claw, personally.
I love the drop. C line is just so overstable and feels so good. the zone flips up for me whereas this thing will hold its angle and is just so consistent. Been messing around with the tactic too, stoked to beat it in real good and have a nice straight 300ft flyer with fade.
I bag the Rhyno and Pig - both in R-Pro, and neither are really as overstable as a Zone. But I think that makes them more usable for someone at my level. Very overstable approach discs are more useful as utility discs, where the Rhyno and Pig are more all-purpose. I don't even bag a Zone or an approach disc that stable right now.
I throw the Järn, but rarely forehand it. I seem to over-power it whenever I try that. I know people have suggested that you missed certain molds, so I am going to add my thoughts. I was waiting to see the Sinus (cannot forehand that disc for love nor money) and the Anvil. I think of the Anvil as a Harp on steroids. I guess the Justice is too fast for this kind of test-but it is what I forehand in place of the Järn. Great selection overall. Happy Thanksgiving from north of the border.
I started with a zone, went to a jarn, then the savior prototype and now a Clash mint. we'll see how it fairs as the yarn is my favorite from the past the the savior beat in too straight.
I was hoping the eclipse tempo would be a bit more beefy, with how many other eclipse discs are on the more os side. Mine felt more like a faster Envy rather.
Thank you for the update. You may already know this, but I'd like you to try Danish Supersonic Discs and Northstar. I'm especially interested in Supersonic Discs, as they are advertised as flying with less effort.
Love the channel Greg! I wanted to add as Tempo lover... The proton soft isn't the good one. Actually it's the worst of the 3 plastics so far. The eclipse is a little better. But the neutron Slam Bot is the money one! The proton is just hard to get consistent flights with.
It's a mint and peppermint combo for me. Mint for backhands and when I need to get up to 300' for my approach, peppermint for forehands and backhands up to ~260'.
You know me and my Elevation gang. 😂 I bag the Elevation Gecko in Eco SuperFlex for approaches like that. It's a 9 speed which is crazy for an approach but Elevation themselves title it "Approach Driver" and I've got a few throw-ins with it. I haven't gotten the Screech yet though.
Rather than throwing different angles to the same distance, I think it would be a better test to throw to different distances with both forehand and backhand. Like 150', 175', 200', 225'. Certain molds are going to perform better at a specific short distance due to their stabilities.
Love the Seasonal Glo-Z Zone. Surprised to see the Tomb on your list, never considered it an approach disc as it's mostly used as a straight throwing putter.
Content idea: Idios VS Vessies VS Terrex (goretex versions that are waterproof) VS Moab 3 (with waterproofing spray) - The two sponsored disc golf shoes vs the two most popular shoes used by average disc golfers. Compare grip, weight, price, durability, waterproofing, warmth in summer/winter, etc. Thanks for doing something that featured a lot of forehand! This is my kind of content for sure, a deep dive into flights of similar discs. The Eclipse and Neutron Tempos are somehow less shallow, but obviously hard to come by. Don't know why the proton soft tempo has such a different hand feel. The Eclipse and Neutron versions feel almost exactly like my ESP zone, in shape. I prefer the zone for 150ishft approaches, as it gets better ground play and flare skips. The tempo is more of a short (200-240ft) hole driver, as the extra glide and less over-stability gives it more hang time and straightness to make ace runs.
While I appreciate you including Doomsday, I feel the better disc for this shot would be the Crisis. Love to see that added in the future if you do another of these
I do love my golem, it is for a very specific throw, especially if you don't want ground action, except if it stays on the rim, I have had some strange rolls with that floppy disc
My approach game has really fallen off recently. The course I played too much this year ended up getting too easy that I didn't need an approach disc any more. I started with the R-Pro Pig but ended up leaving myself with too many c2 putts. I switched to the Toro but it was too dumpy and left with with too many long putts again. I switched to the R-Pro Toro and fell in love with it. It developed a puddle top and no longer had much fade so within a few months, it was useless as I tend to roll my wrist on forehand. I tried the Rat as well but it wasn't stable enough. I finally found a Proto stamp Caiman. And I haven't looked back. It is the perfect forehand approach disc for me. Enough stability to fight out, not too much to be dumpy. I use it for anything under 175', almost always forehand. And it's probably ruining my putting since I am basically in bullseye every time it comes out for use.
I'm sure if they get traffic and people use our code, that is tracked and they will be more likely to sponsor a video again in the future! Glad you found it informative!
I didn't watch the zone vid but as soon as I got to 0:49, I was thinking about my Pig and Rhyno... I didn't know anything about the zone until MUCH later and I had been using a Crystal Drone before that, the Zone just skips less. And man, I was so mad when Ricky came and jacked up all the prices on the Pig! I used to get them cheap, custom stamped and even nice first runs/oil slicks, I was in Pig Heaven! Love you Ricky but grrrrrr!
I de-bagged Järn more than a year ago before one tournament as it was my favourite disc and was afraid to loose it. Somehow never bagged it again and replaced it with Zone OS + Culprit combo. After watching this I think I'll try throwing my Järn again, who knows, I might even re-bag it 🤔
Id argue that the Rhyno and Sinus are, and were both putters. They were designed to be torque resistant, sure, but not like the Zone. Approach discs are something that changed the game. The way disc golf could be played was objectively different after the Zone. Maybe you like something better than the Zone, but I think nothing beats it.
To be fair, I think the Tomb is just more neutral than a lot of the approach discs here, so you have to treat it differently than a typical overstable approach disc. I think if you are more interested in straighter throws and longer distances, that's where the Tomb shines.
RPM KEA 4, 3, 0, 3.5 Available in all RPM plastics including Glow. Base plastic (Strata) is nice and tacky and super grippy when wet) Thick walled rim makes for a better feeling grip for me than my Entropy. My Strata Kea just seems to stop dead when it hits the ground instead of skipping off into the wilderness. A goto throw for me is head height, beside the rear shoulder, Anhyzer thrown directly at a spot on the ground... pulls out of the Anhyzer and stops dead on that target.
I like a Rhyno for short approaches and a Caiman for longer approaches. I don’t like how the Zone feels on forehand. Toro is good but not enough glide. Tempo is good but too much glide. The Caiman has the perfect glide and I get a good clean release every time.
Y’all did the tomb dirty… it isn’t an OS approach disc like everything else ya tested. It’s still the best straight throwing putter though. 😉 Still love your videos. Keep em coming.
Not only did the familiarity of the Jarn help you, it was the last disc shown as thrown...which means you had plenty of practice to get your best shots. Should have been your first disc tossed in my opinion.
Do you feel your game improves from doing so much testing? Can't think of better field work. Combined with your putting experiment. How has it been affecting your rating?
I haven’t had time to play sanctioned rounds but my putting still feels much better and I have shot some personal bests recently. I would say it helps a lot!
@@dblevins343 I mean of course the MVP made stuff is great and also feels great. But so does the Nerve plastic that TSA makes. I mean even if they use some of the same plastic blends for it. But just want it to hold up longer then a month or 2. They hold stability for a good bit but they warp really quick.
@Kneecapmissiles I agree, they should use the premium blend. It's a bit odd they aren't. But TSA's plastics are just MVP renamed (just like Mint discs).
I bag a cryzstal flx zone which I throw on most OS approaches and razor claw 3 when i want a skip. Does this make sense or am I missing something in my approach game?
The tomb isn’t an approach disc. It’s closer to an envy, logic, or Luna type of disc. Torque resistant, but straight throwing putter with a decent amount of glide
@@bretbowman2007 maybe, but being forehand dominant myself, i’ve tried the older run and newer run entropy and it just goes alot straighter with little fade the more power/torque i put on it whereas my seasoned z zone still has that reliable fade. Mvp/axiom for me really shines in the mid range area more than anything else.
you threw my precious Clandestine A51 so poorly..but I'll cut you some slack. You're next disc comparison should be dog friendly discs and their value in the course and within the maw
K1 Soft Berg and Berg X have been my go-to approach discs for more than a year. They're amazing, especially on forehand. I mostly use the regular Berg, and if I want a slightly more stable flight I pull out the X. They've made me so much more confident when scrambling and on approaches. They're also awesome forehand roller discs for throwing around corner!
It’s cool to see you throw because it’s a more realistic average throw for us average throwers
Did you just call him Average?? LOL. Only kidding I know there is no offense intended.
I bag a Jarn, in K-1soft, and it is the approach disc for me. Great content as always! Keep up the great work.
Jarn gang!
Becoming my favorite disc golf channel on here. I love these data driven tests! And love the conclusion that practice makes perfect with a disc!
Really appreciate the descriptions of plastics, feel and weights.
I've been waiting for a 2.0 of that episode!! I love it, thanks, great content as always!
Cosmic neutron is the most stable .. but envy is a different type of disc very glidely
Solid video! I think that confidence in the yärn is why it won by that large of a margin since I believe that golf/disc golf is so largely mental.
I am also team tactic (I bag 4)
I prefer the A2 and A3 for approach shots.
This video is enthralling to watch as an amateur thrower. The amount of effort you’ve put into your videos is obvious to see, I can’t believe you don’t have more followers. Around here we call the Rat the “gentleman’s Toro” 😂
I love my Legacy Recluse in this slot
Thank you for taking the time to show us these approach discs. I was hoping you would test the Saviour from Latitude 64. Maybe next time :)
Happy Thanksgiving! I was surprised by the rat and not surprised either the Jarn won. Absolutely loved this video! Loved how you broke it down with different shot types and at a reasonable distance with an actual target.

I bag a rhyno, aviarx3, and two toros. Have also used harps and culprits.
Artemis is a Harpoons bigger brother, much more comfortable and a bit more overstable. Flies between a zone and an Envy.

Love the channel Greg! I wanted to add as Tempo lover... The proton soft isn't the good one. Actually it's the worst of the 3 plastics so far. The eclipse is a little better. But the neutron Slam Bot is the money one! The proton is just hard to get consistent flights with.
Great stats!
Missing the Lone star discs horny toad. I bag along with my zone as a slightly more OS approach.
I recently traded a "flippy' pioneer for a c line metal flake tomb and it is the best throwing putter i have had. It is dead straight.

Holyyy yap. Go sleep
I also never or rarely throw my Järn on backhand. The berg x is ofc the backhand go to 😉
While I appreciate you including Doomsday, I feel the better disc for this shot would be the Crisis. Love to see that added in the future if you do another of these
I enjoyed having you be the thrower cuz I throw more like you than I throw like Caleb. But, it’s also great seeing Caleb rip.
Caleb’s arm needed a siesta after than insane number of throws he did in some recent videos lol, I am sure you will see us both in the near future.
I do love my golem, it is for a very specific throw, especially if you don't want ground action, except if it stays on the rim, I have had some strange rolls with that floppy disc

And it's probably ruining my putting since I am basically in bullseye every time it comes out for use.
Man it's unfortunate that you hated the Tomb. My N-blend Tomb is so nice for me. Being in Sweden and it being so shallow
I wish you guys got credit for Idio purchases, you got me very interested!!
I'm sure if they get traffic and people use our code, that is tracked and they will be more likely to sponsor a video again in the future! Glad you found it informative!
I use the rat to compliment the pyro. The rat is a really beat zone and the pyro is reliably stable.
Are those disc gilf shoes stable or understable and is there a speed rating on them?
Dude’s trying to break my heart with those pig and tomb performances
To be fair, I think the Tomb is just more neutral than a lot of the approach discs here, so you have to treat it differently than a typical overstable approach disc. I think if you are more interested in straighter throws and longer distances, that's where the Tomb shines.
Me but it's the area 51 lmao
I think the pig would do better in a premium plastic. I’ve taken it outta the bag to go w a zone😢
RPM KEA 4, 3, 0, 3.5
Available in all RPM plastics including Glow. Base plastic (Strata) is nice and tacky and super grippy when wet)
Thick walled rim makes for a better feeling grip for me than my Entropy.
Needed a Steggo in this list
20:07 what did he just say about Wild Thing?
I prefer a Prodigy A5 over the A2. It is more similar to the zone.
Look at the screech go!!!!
Not only did the familiarity of the Jarn help you, it was the last disc shown as thrown...which means you had plenty of practice to get your best shots. Should have been your first disc tossed in my opinion.
The order each time was random, but I have no doubt it benefitted from being the mold I use
Do you feel your game improves from doing so much testing? Can't think of better field work. Combined with your putting experiment. How has it been affecting your rating?
I haven’t had time to play sanctioned rounds but my putting still feels much better and I have shot some personal bests recently. I would say it helps a lot!
Call this over stable approach…if not inclued the berg
Great vid as always thanks
Tempo and Temple both in the bag
Temple is the clear winner! Though space just needs to get their own premium plastic and its the perfect choice!
I'd say they really don't need their own plastic. Part of what makes them so good is the MVP plastics.
11:16 in what world is the Harp DOMEY? you even show its board flat or slighty concave!!!
RPM Kea is the bomb.
The tomb isn’t an approach disc. It’s closer to an envy, logic, or Luna type of disc. Torque resistant, but straight throwing putter with a decent amount of glide
It's the Archer, right ? Could Drew Gibson win with Franklin ? Greg is apex salesman !
Most Accurate?
The one you practice with the most.
MVP Entropy is a straighter, more torque resistant, Zone with same glide & fade.
Entropy more torque resistant than a zone?? Not even close
@@Leftyycheater89 Old Zone v new Entropy; maybe my Zone is getting flippy 'cause it turns over? Tree hits aplenty.
@@Leftyycheater89 Love the neutron Insanity & fission Octane. I'll try Zone against Entropy directly.
Zone can't be beat.
Bet the Zone is the best
No A3 is a bit of a bummer. It has damn near the same flight as the A2 but I find it more comfortable
I myself am a K1 Jarn thrower. But i think the Westside Anvil and Latitude 64 Savior should have also been thrown into this conversation
Bummer to see the miss of the BergX or the Sockibomb Slammer.
Star Toro is King!
you threw my precious Clandestine A51 so poorly..but I'll cut you some slack.
You're next disc comparison should be dog friendly discs and their value in the course and within the maw
Lol, I threw a terrible throw and had a terrible result. I'm not sure what this told us. Need the Simon's throwing machine
Missing the best, RPM Kea.
No K3 berg, that is your winner , do over
K1 Soft Berg and Berg X have been my go-to approach discs for more than a year. They're amazing, especially on forehand. I mostly use the regular Berg, and if I want a slightly more stable flight I pull out the X.
They've made me so much more confident when scrambling and on approaches.
They're also awesome forehand roller discs for throwing around corner!
A2
