Clean, effective, and efficient. One hell of a job! I have a 2003 yamaha kodiak 400 4x4 and have noticed grease spun inside the clutch cover. I didn't know where this came from until I watched this video. I plan to install the highlifter outlaw clutch kit soon and I will be watching this video making sure everything is back together properly! You did an awesome job, thanks for the time and effort you spent on this video,
Thank you for the video! I have a 2009 wolverine 450 and i had my sheave machined with 16grams greasless weights and sliders. After i bought a dynojet kit+hmf exhaust+K&N filter. My dream came true! Low end power and a 57MPH to speed! Thank you very much Grizzlrider.
you probably dont give a shit but if you are bored like me atm then you can watch pretty much all the latest movies on InstaFlixxer. Been streaming with my brother these days xD
Cant say thanks enough for this video. I had to take my 660 apart and clean and regrease it since I flooded my CVT in a mudhole. This video was a huge help for me to unassemble and reassemble it. Thanks!!!!!
I'm just saying.. you make it look a lot easier than I found it to be for me. Just did mine today, and I must have watched this video 10 times to make sure I was doing everything right.
Thanks for the comment. I'm really wanting to do this to my bike. Recently bought larger tires... and I'm going to get the new clutch assembly from EPI. I'm just worried that I'm getting in a bit over my head. I've never really messed with these things. Great video though. Lots of information.
Pretty much answered your own question. Less mess, and more time between servicing. It's nice especially if you are always swapping different weights or shims around as well.
Much better, sorry if I sounded like an ass in the other vid, but I was getting frustraded trying to find a video, I have to a clutch upgrade this weekend on a wolverine 450.
Depends on the weight of the tires and what you are looking to accomplish with the set up. You probably would only need a Blue spring since it's only 26" tires. The roller weights I used were the 12 gram rollers. Helps get through the mid range quicker but being lighter it revs a bit higher. Definitely a big difference from stock. The sliders should be the ones they list for the grizzly 660
Yes they do sell everything, just not as a complete kit. You have to order each part individually. The Grizzly 450 and Rhino 450 use the same OEM sheave so look under the rhino section on UTV Inc's site. The sliders for the 450 are the same as the 660 and the rollers are the same across all models, just pick what weight you want them in.
A lot of guys use the old grizzly grease from dealers or BelRay. Any marine grade high temp grease is sufficient though. You apply like a teaspoon inside each roller ramp.
Hey I installed this with 2mm washers Because that's all I had around the bike goes into gear good the splines showed when I put the primary clutch on .. but when the bike is in any gear except park or nuetral it sounds like something is eating itself not in a loud grinding way but it's more like a howling sound .. idk if that's because of the plate that has the fins on it or because of the rollers .. I added a good amount of grease to the rollers and the rest of the inner primary huh but this didn't fix that noise I'm curious .. it maybe be he actually clutch inside not getting enough oil which is what I'm thinking
I ordered all the clutch parts from UTV Inc. You can probably save a few bucks by ordering them from different sources though. The machined sheave is a UTV INC. part, the secondary spring is from EPI, the grease-less sliders and rollers are DR Pully (available from multiple sources and the shims can be bought everywhere and even on Ebay. Not snorkeled yet but will be soon.
From UTV Inc. but you can get them from ebay as well. They are sold on ebay as 1.5mm shim kits. 1-1mm and 1-.5mm shim. I am only running the 1mm but will probably add .5mm next time I do some work on the 450. Just be sure if you are going to use 1.5mm that there is still spline showing on the shaft when you reassemble the sheaves or you can damage your shaft and sheaves.
well done video, thank you for the dyi info, Im pretty sure my 2009 grizzly should b pretty much the same thing right? what does blue spring do? I keep hearing purple spring, if I want to wheely a 550 purple is the right one right? so do I understand right I need to get the ramps on my cluch plate machined?
Awesome vid. Helps alot. I have a Grizzly 350 but same concept. Might even be the same parts. If I don't swap to greaseless rollers though how much grease and what kind do I need to use?
I have a 2012 kodiak 450 eps se. It has 2598 k/m on it. I was wondering when I should re grease my clutch. I've seen people service there clutch at about 5,000 k/m and some even more. Just wanted another opinion on when I should think about servicing mine?
That's nice iv done lots of up grades on my Yamaha ttr 125 dirt bike it was max 50mph stock now racing piston board clutch kit kit kit carb kit it will hit 112mph it fast... keep the videos cuming
Nice Video, wish I had seen before I cleaned a mouse nest of garage debris from my clutch...Could you recommend a forum for specific question for do-it your self cheap guys like me?
the primary clutch sheath with the fins on back side, is it supposed to be flat on back side towards transmission or have a recessed area? i think mine somehow got worn and is recessed about 1/8 of an inch
What is the measurement across the internal width of the compression tool? I'm going to make one, but I don't have my Grizzly taken apart yet to measure for myself. Thanks ahead of time for the help!
Unfortunately the tool isn't mine so I can't measure it for you. It was purchased from UTV Inc. so maybe check their site and see if the dimensions are listed.
I have a 07 450 grizzly, I installed EPI clutch stall springs, and I am trying to get a new secondary spring and clutch weights, was wondering can I and should I go grease less cause it looks like it will only cost about $28 more for sliders to go grease less but I was wanting to use stock sheave, is that ok or do you need a custom sheave to go grease less, and what color secondary spring should I use, I ride in the thick mud and water. Thank you
Yeah you could go with the greaseless rollers and sliders on the stock sheave. Most people with 450s run the epi blue secondary spring or orange. I am running the blue spring but really don't ride much mud. If you google " which grizzly 450 secondary springs" you'll get a lot of info on different setups geared for specific types of riding. If you don't have a shim already installed you may want to add one as well while you're in there. It will give you added low end grunt but sacrifice some top end.
appreciate the reply. Im going to go to a 26in tire what weights and epi spring do you think i should use and by sliders do you mean the 660 rhino or grizzly or doesn't matter. Did you notice a difference with this kit. thanks. I really need to join a forum....
@ttjafi It kicks ass compared to stock. Check out the clutch section on grizzlyriders forum a lot of 660 owners and tons of useful info on different clutch set ups. The guy talking in the vid is Jack and he owns a 660 and has the same set up but with a different color spring and weights and is a member there too. Just google grizzlyriders cause I can no longer type urls on here lol
@GRIZZLYRIDERS2010 Thanks for your answer, I have to do some research on the net. I have 26 Swampilte tires on my Yamaha. The belt is nealy done so I thought an upgrade would do. How is your 450 working with this setup Compared to the original one?
where did you get your sheave and dr pulley sliders? i would like to get a sheave for my 350 grizz and the dr pulley sliders . i need help on where to get them thanks!
Do Not use a die grinder on sheaves! it will leave grooves in sheaves. use a red scotch rite pad and lightly sand your sheaves by hand. nice video besides die grinder part.
check out JBS hot rod sheaves...best on the market...no shims needed and you get all the bottom end you can have without the belt rubbing the cover and you get more top end with it...we are dominating the worcs series in the rhinos and have the same set up for grizzlys..using our set up will keep the camplate all the way on the splines like they are supposed to be....holler at me and i will get you fixed up
hey, nicely done, i also have a 2009 grizz 450 and want to run this set up. UTV crap doesnt have a set up for the 450 so do you mind sending me the links for the primary sheave, fixed sheave, weights and the sliders you used. thanks
Me being new to working on atvs (just interested in working on mine) I bought an outlaw clutch kit from high lifter, question is does changing the wet clutch springs help that much that I should do it? just havent seen many topics on those springs anywhere? thanks for your help, also does the machined sheave make that big of difference versus say me just buying the greaseless weights and slides and using my stock sheave?
DJ Pa If you are a mudder than yes springs will help with stall. If not no. Yes a machined sheave or shim, or both will give you more low end power. I wouldn't buy a UTV Inc sheave now though cause there are other companies out there worth considering. Look at JBS performance or Coop45. Changing the stock sliders and rollers to greaseless will do nothing except make it greaseless. If you change the roller weight from stock then it will effect performance. Check any atv forum out there and there are 1000s of threads dedicated to the pros and cons of clutch mods and how to understand what each mod alters when done.
Nice vid! Where did you get the tool that you compressed the spring with? I am trying to collect the needed tools and knowledge to replace my spring, add the shim, and replace the one way bearing.
I got mine from UTV Inc a while ago along with the sheave. Plenty of places sell the sliders and rollers now but I am not sure anyone sells a machined sheave for a 350. It's a different part number than the 450 so mine wouldn't work for you. Try contacting WVHotRodRhino here on RUclips to see if he does one for the 350 if not then try looking up Coop45 clutch mods and see if he has ever machined one.

@Santiago Micah Definitely, I've been watching on Instaflixxer for since december myself :D
Thanks, very useful video to show the assembly of the primary clutch.
Thanks for the revving demo. Working on my first belt drive with sheaves, and wasnt sure how the belt should move on acceleration. thanks again.
Thanks super helpful and the demo there at the end really helped
The BEST video i have seen, without stupid musik.thanks a lot,it is helping me
Gervais
With the greaseless setup,it's like a king quad.
Brilliant..
I have never seen anyone scuff the sheaves like that.
I've seen it done, but it serves no purpose--within 100 miles of use they'll be all polished up again by belt slippage...
Much better, sorry if I sounded like an ass in the other vid, but I was getting frustraded trying to find a video, I have to a clutch upgrade this weekend on a wolverine 450.

Great video. I'm about to install JBS sheave on my rhino and this helped a lot!!
Thanks for the trq spec that was good info, I don't have a book and that helped alot
Really likes his Cam Plate

What weight change for what that do and if you just stay stock but go grease lease
That was awesome. I wish you were my neighbor. I have to do that on my 05 660 grizzly.
A lot of guys use the old grizzly grease from dealers or BelRay. Any marine grade high temp grease is sufficient though. You apply like a teaspoon inside each roller ramp.
Здравствуйте,скажите пожалуйста,а нужно вариатор продувать?или там есть какая-то вентиляция?У меня Кодиак 400 2004 года
Great video! Thank you!
Thanks for the video. What are the advantages of greaseless weights?
Great video. You should be a mechanical instructor. Good teaching habits. Thank you.
The blue spring is more tension or less? I think the 1mm shim makes belt drop down further to give better take off or lower end at less RPMs, correct?
Hey I installed this with 2mm washers Because that's all I had around the bike goes into gear good the splines showed when I put the primary clutch on .. but when the bike is in any gear except park or nuetral it sounds like something is eating itself not in a loud grinding way but it's more like a howling sound .. idk if that's because of the plate that has the fins on it or because of the rollers .. Nicely done. I'm off to install a 1mm shim in my 700.
well done video, thank you for the dyi info, Im pretty sure my 2009 grizzly should b pretty much the same thing right? what does blue spring do? I keep hearing purple spring, if I want to wheely a 550 purple is the right one right? so do I understand right I need to get the ramps on my cluch plate machined?
Do you know where to buy that clutch housing seal from ? The 550/660/700 main seal inner diameter is to big
yes it improves torque for larger or heavier wheels and tires.
Awesome vid. Helps alot. I have a Grizzly 350 but same concept. Might even be the same parts. If I don't swap to greaseless rollers though how much grease and what kind do I need to use?
@ttjafi The blue secondary spring, and roller weights needed would be different for your 660. The set I used works good for just the 450s
I have a 2012 kodiak 450 eps se. It has 2598 k/m on it. I was wondering when I should re grease my clutch. I've seen people service there clutch at about 5,000 k/m and some even more. Just wanted another opinion on when I should think about servicing mine?
How have the greaseless rollers and sliders performed for you? Thanks.
nice work thanks for the detailed info
That's nice iv done lots of up grades on my Yamaha ttr 125 dirt bike it was max 50mph stock now racing piston board clutch kit kit kit carb kit it will hit 112mph it fast... keep the videos cuming
what year model is this grizzly? would it be the same for a 2014 model?
how did you get the cover off after youve taken the 4 screws out?
I have a grizzly 450 2014, I want to convert to a greaseless clutch, what do you recommend getting on dr pulley?
Having a problem with my Yamaha grizzly 660 2004. Where I start up. Then cut off a pop come from the tell pip
How many miles did you change?
Gracias
Hi guys i need some help, for ranch use, what do you prefer Kymco Mxu500 2009 or Grizzly 450 2008 ?
0:48 I try to remove my primary sheave and it just spins.whats the best way to hold it in place without damaging it?
Nice Video, wish I had seen before I cleaned a mouse nest of garage debris from my clutch...Could you recommend a forum for specific question for do-it your self cheap guys like me?
its not bad for the clutch to strap
it like that ?
would it be a good idea to use loc-tite on the nuts?
But that's not the clutch is it? Clutch runs in oil under the next cover on the primary side.
the primary clutch sheath with the fins on back side, is it supposed to be flat on back side towards transmission or have a recessed area? i think mine somehow got worn and is recessed about 1/8 of an inch
OK. They don't give dimensions at UTV Inc. I will wing it at the shop tonight. Thanks anyways!
Not sure who makes it but Jack got it from UTV Inc. I believe.
How does the belt go back on
Scuffing it with a ziz wheel is absolutely stupid! Never use a grinder on the shiv plates, EVER! Rough it with scotch Brite, that's it!
Not sure the grit. Was a 3m scrub pad (soft) used on a grinder wheel. You can get a hand pad and do it as well.
What size roller and sliders do I get
@GRIZZLYRIDERS2010
Thanks for your answer, I have to do some research on the net.
Did you find that bushing that falls out of the front hole of the cover at 11:06?
Do Not use a die grinder on sheaves! it will leave grooves in sheaves. use a red scotch rite pad and lightly sand your sheaves by hand. nice video besides die grinder part.
will this video be the same steps for a 600 grizzly and how much was the sheave you used. and the rollers
4:48 does grizzly 700 has those metal clips?
Does anyone elses grizzly ultramatic have high engine revs and not going anywhere ? Seems like engine working hard and at highs for low speeds ???
Would this installation improve torque for larger sized tires??
Awesome...Glad it helped ya!
great vid ,,,, can same mod be done to grizzly 700
The procedure is the same. What color spring and what weight rollers will be different.
check out JBS hot rod sheaves...best on the market...no shims needed and you get all the bottom end you can have without the belt rubbing the cover and you get more top end with it...we are dominating the worcs series in the rhinos and have the same set up for grizzlys..using our set up will keep the camplate all the way on the splines like they are supposed to be....holler at me and i will get you fixed up

one more quick thing, where did you get your shim
Gracias
I need a clutch kit for a grizzly 350 4x4 2011 can't find any though 😕
I haven't really come across any for the 350 or 400. Most people just add a shim.
my o-ring in the clutch (back one) is broken when the belt blew up. How do i get the o-ring in there. plz help asap
does the grizzly 350 have the same its an 09 and where can i get a machined sheave and rollers?
I have a 2005 yamaha kodiak 450 the machined sheave that utv sells for the rhino 450 is that what i need to install to make my clutch grease less?
No, the roller weights and sliders from dr. pulley are what makes it greaseless.
Utv sells greaseless rollers and weights as well is there something wrong with theirs
DJ Pa I believe the ones they sell are Dr.Pulley at least they were when I purchased mine.
Me being new to working on atvs (just interested in working on mine) I bought an outlaw clutch kit from high lifter, question is does changing the wet clutch springs help that much that I should do it? just havent seen many topics on those springs anywhere?

Willie Maykit That spring compressor tool was also bought from UTV Inc.

@ttjafi Hi, thanks for your advice, I will have a closer look at grizzlyriders
what grease should i use and where do i grease
Yes the clutch is the same.
Jon there is plenty more info other than the clutch video on the rocksandruts forum
More lowend torque and faster acceleration through the mid range.
Not sure have never had or dug into a 600 before.
@NVMDSTEvil lol, yeah it just dropped down on the ground
hey i have a 2013 550 could you inbox me i have some questions ona clutch kit...thanks
Fantastic video, thank you
GREAT VIDEO! THANKS
