This video left out something super important and the person doing video did this wrong, that washer under the nut is not a washer it is a spacer that must be placed around the splines on that shaft before the nut is tightened, you can see in video how it was not centered

I just bought a 1998 Grizzly 600. It has a rattle coming from the clutch housing. Gets a little louder when its revved up in neutral. Its not really loud, not like a loose nut rattling around inside, but a metallic tapping noise. I haven't listened for it much when riding, as I haven't ridden it much yet. So far the info I've seen online says that Yamahas are noisy and its normal. I'm wondering if its the sound of the weights in the clutch that are rattling? Does have anything to do with not having enough grease inside? I don't know enough abotu the clutch to know how it works or why it rattles.

Follow the instructions as shown in the video. You'll need a 22mm socket and an impact driver. It will be difficult without an impact driver but should come off fairly easy with an impact driver.

Do the belts age despite low usage? Looking at a '98 with only 500 miles...

Yes, just like tires, they dry out and crack with age.

When I try to take the nut off of the primary the clutch spins what should I do

If you are using an impact wrench to break the nut loose, a ½” impact should work better than a 3/8”. A pneumatic impact will typically work better than cordless. If this still doesn’t work, some people have had luck wrapping a ratchet strap around the clutch and tying it off so that it will not spin.

I’m sorry that you had problems with one of our belts. That’s very unusual. Please send an email to belts@timken.com
