  • You might not notice on a daily basis, but we humans are growing a TON of mushrooms. Of course the common button mushroom and oyster mushrooms take up a large portion of this total, but there are lots of other really interesting mushrooms that you really should know about! In this episode of the mushroom show, we're covering over 20 different mushrooms grown around the world for food and medicine. We are also chatting about the largest mushroom art foraging event that took place this last weekend, plus discussing some new research showing that mushrooms might be acting as a major carbon sink for the world.

This has got to be the best show you’ve done (except for Lion’s mane). Feeling genuinely blessed by all the information. Turkey Tail - would like a REALLY deep dive into that one. (Yeah, I watched what you’ve posted … I, as a fan and a shroom curious sort, want more)

I'm just getting into growing fungi at home this year, just oyster and lion's mane. I've found that even in separated pots and not crowded together, just keeping some high-O2 output houseplants like fittonia, sanseveria and purple waffle plants in the same room as my mushroom rack seems to keep everything happier and growing nicely.

In Finland they are pioneering a technique to grow Chaga (Inonotus Obliquus) on live trees. Theres lots of commercial forestry and private owned forest in Finland that allows for sort of commercial growing of Chaga. I believe it takes years to grow, though, just like the trees themselves.

Wood ear, cloud ear, and the white fungus at the end of the video are the best mushrooms ever. Super healthy and add texture to many dishes.

Another excellent video, Tony! You always present fascinating material. I occasionally buy dried "Beauty" mushrooms at my Chinese market, but I never knew the popular name for them. You're right, they have almost no flavor, but they're nice in soups and stir fries.
