    • @harryburganjr.969

      Yeah I mean sometimes telegraphing can be used on purpose to trick an opponent into blocking the wrong spot by changing punch target mid-punch, but ig maybe that's more akin to feinting tho.

    Quick note: telegraphing the hook can be advantageous if one loads the arm from the waist. This way your opponent doesn't know if the hook is coming for the head or for the body. This also can fool your opponent as you could feint the hook with the twist of your hips, but follow through with a cross instead. I don't suggest doing that unless you're experienced,though.

      yeah when u do that it can become a battle of whos faster because loading ur arm from the waist opens up ur guard for imo and if they can catch u before u cattch them u probably wont land ur shot as hard as u would if didnt let em

    I'm 17, got a black belt in tkd, have trained Muay Thai, MMA and wrestling for a little while now, and what I think is really telegraphing in all the striking arts I mentioned except tkd, is that people always switch their stance before throwing a lead leg roundhouse or they wind up a lot before a kick, I always feel like I have eternity to avoid those kicks, tkd gets you used to fast kicks. So I usually avoid majority of the kicks completely and just counter with my own kicks

      Muay Thai switch kicks are definitely telegraphed but they do work because they are like the Ali Shuffle of Kickboxing. But yes, Lead Leg kicks should be trained too. I think what happens is people feel like they are too weak so they don't bother training them.

      Ye. Hes my bully. He started bullying me in school and i had enough. He kept talking shit about me and to me. I decided to ask him for a fight. We were the same height but he was a bit more scrawny than me. Before the fight my friend told me to just do what fight tips showed us,because we both watched him. He swung first and I lucky moves out of the way. At this moment I realised that his guard was dropped and he was knelt over. So I went for the victory punch to his jaw. It worked but he only stayed down for a bit. He kept trying to come to me but everyone helped me keep him back because the fight was over. Now my school I keeping a close eye on him so he doesn't try anything else. There is my fight story. :)

    Where does one find the time to send a telegraph during a fight? Can't it wait until after?

    • @QuantumPhyZ
      @QuantumPhyZ 6 лет назад +11

      Daniel Beleren Honestly, made the same question to my coach, but like he said against *advanced* fighters, oh boy they will see you from a mile away and destroy you.

    • @xyz098pwn
      @xyz098pwn 6 лет назад +17

      No no, a telegraph was an object they used to use way back in the day to send messages to people. It was kinda like emailing, but much less advance. Daniel's comment was a joke haha.
      That's why when you signal an attack in a fight, it's called telegraphing, because the movements of a telegraphed strike are like a message to the fighter of the next attack coming in.

    Hey Shane, you could be interested in a book called "Gorin-no-Sho" from Miyamoto Musashi, he describes the guard as being first of all the best position from which you can directly attack. Also, Bruce Lee preffered to use the term "on-ready position" to emphasize the offensive aspect of such position. :)
    Cheers, thanks for the videos and happy training !

It's also called "Book of five rings", "Book of five wheels" (en Español se llama "Tradato de los cinco anillos" creo, a ver...). Another form of telegraphing is not moving. If you learn to have that rhythm in your hands and then while sparring, your back hand stops moving, that’s telling your opponent that you plan on throwing a powerful straight or hook.

    Yeah, tell that to Mike Tyson or Bas Rutten.

    • @danoeb-g418
      @danoeb-g418 6 лет назад +14

      Impulsive fair point sir. However I would remind you that Bas and Mike had reputations as heavy hitters. Their reputations cause their opponents to fear punches before the match starts, making them more likely to guard and parry rather then counter punch and risk taking a shot. And Bas and Mike used a lot of faints allowing them to disguise the load up as a possible faint. Just food for thought. Would you really recommend that the average fighter in training or even in amateur competition throw punches with a huge windup? Probably not

    • @biohazard724
      @biohazard724 6 лет назад +2

      There's some merit to telegraphing in certain situations. Show a body shot but throw a head shot. Show head, don't throw anything at all. Undermine your opponent's rhythm and timing and pretty soon you're touching them at will. Mike and Bas knew this which made their knockout power that much more intimidating.

    • @saintblade9021
      @saintblade9021 5 лет назад +1

      Mike tyson never really telegraphed, he was peekabo, meaning he kept his hands close to his face at all time even when punching and leaning and retreated right back. He did not cock back his shots or stutter step ot any of the sort

    I find all these videos I've been seeing similar to a conversation I had with a friend who was a golden gloves boxer. For he saw some videos of mine relating to good balance for kicks me working on the bag for exercise and to fixed my straight punch as well my self defense talks and thought he knew everything about what I was doing. Dude told me I had no platform on fighting. When all he saw was me working on the heavy bag to fixed my straight punch. Then I find a clip of a match of his with him leading with his left leg so far out moving before he moves telegraphing everything and I just couldn't help but laugh. This reminded me of that.

      try going on a site like let go or something to find a rlly cheap bag. Practice shadow boxing. Also sparr on the ground with some of ur friends. Soon enough you can get a job and start going to the gym/ buy ur own equipment.

In cal state Fullerton they have a mma class for all students I’m not sure how certified the instructors are but some colleges offer it. But wrestling is a good substitute. Maybe try talking to the owner and say or ask if you can work off your membership?

    depends on the skill level of the opponent as well. I have used telegraphing to slow down my opponent. They though on thing was coming and found something else. They spend as much time preparing afer the telegraphing as I did preparing what I was actually doing!

      One of my favorites is a safety kick. A little high goes right into a neck high strike of some sort. Doesnt need to be good just some contact. I also like your demo on the axe kick...quite useful. I believe that was yours.

    I just recently started sparring with a boxing coach at my nearest UFC Gym and he told me that I personally Telegraph what’s coming up by loading too much. He tells me he sees it coming from a mile away. By the time I throw, he’s well out of range. I’m practicing keeping my punches tight and going from A to B but it’s easier said than done. I’m still practicing how to throw my hooks without telegraphing with my hips but it’s tough.’

      ZRock7771 throw a few feint jabs to try to get them to weave, when thier leaning thier head lower that's when you head kick them, less distance to travel for the leg and more power. Most simple way not the best, just easy to remember and practice

    • @arizonatea3734
      @arizonatea3734 6 лет назад +1

      ZRock7771 ok erase the punch comments, it works,but strictly kickly is different. Master your chamber, educate yourself on karate vs Thai kicking (no step vs step kicking). If your chamber is in same position constantly, no one knows your actual kick being thrown, kinda like the switch kick (usually called question mark kick). The chamber is same in all kicks in traditional arts so that will make a major difference on your opponent. Silva, Connor, Jones, machida, all use traditional style opposed to Thai kicks regardless of their actual art preferences. Look around for the Thai dude, who would push kick so hard and then loop up a roundhouse to the head... or Silva vs belfort, machida vs couture, Jones vs dc2..... all thrown traditional style.
