Great review, I have a stock 2017 and watching this just makes me smile. Weird car for sure, but it's nice to see what the platform is able to produce.
I had a 2017 red sport q60 had a bunch of issues bought it brand new. Dumb decision because I paid over 64k plus tax, fees etc. was so just excited about it but the value of it went down so fast in under 3 years. After a year of ownership I started to heat soak a lot, was running under boost, also the turbos were making weird clanking noises so the dealer replaced it. Keep in mind I’m stock I always wanted to upgrade the heat exchanger but it will void the warranty. One day engine was making weird noises it started to really lose power as well. Turns out it was the drive belt but I’m not done yet the engine actually did gave out at only 34k miles it started to knock so dealer replaced the motor for free through warranty. If you think that’s over I’m not finish yet. This time around the car started to overheat with a newer engine. At this point I complain to the dealer about it and they couldn’t figure it out on why it’s overheating, coolant is good, water pump is good, oh btw the red sport uses two water pumps and for some reason I only had one it took nearly a whole month trying to call and deal with service for them to figure this shit out. They put in the secondary water pump, gave me a couple of free oil changes for the trouble. Even with the new water pump it will still overheat. Decided to call corporate and made a huge complain turns out the service didn’t do a good job installing the motor. After the dealer refuse to help me with this lemon of a car. I decided to call corporate once again and file a lawsuit and agreed to actually buy my car for price of my loan because I didn’t want it anymore. The headaches and sleepless nights wasn’t worth it. I rarely full send it and I don’t boost all the damn time. I just got a lemon I hope they fix all the issues with the 400z with better seals in the engine, better drive belt, better heat exchanger. I bought a 50k mile 2015 q50 3.7 for only 14k sure it’s not as quick but these vq37 engines are bulletproof. I now have 112k miles on it and have zero issues.
If only they updated their interiors and had a bigger aftermarket support then it’d be perfect, but there’s only basic bolt ons available and basic suspension set ups in the market it’s too bad they also don’t have an updated transmission
Dude I’m so glad you did one of these! I have the same set up mostly- just without a fuel pump, bigger turbos, etc. I have a ‘16 red sport making 443hp and 502tq. It’s amazing for the heat exchanger, exhaust, lower dp’s, and tune. All I have. People sleep on these but the VR owners know the power the 400Z will get!!

@@EllisBatishchev Okay, but it's a Skyline everywhere else too, even though it's not called it. Small brakes: Most Q50S and all Q50RS 400 come with bigger rotors, and bigger Akebono Calipers. You can just upgrade your brakes at any time if you have baby brakes. 2. Paddle Shifters: Most Q50S and all Q50RS 400 come with paddle shifters. You can retrofit paddle shifters to any Q50. If you don't want the hassle of retrofitting stuff yourself then just make sure you buy a Q50S with the Sport Package or a Q50RS 400.

It does very well on a well-marked highway with turns
Well, I couldn’t hold out any longer and went back to Tesla- this time a Model 3 Dual Motor. Much quicker than my Q50 (only .7 seconds slower than the P85D), much better tech and UI than Q50; AP 3.0 is superior, very efficient- hardly any phantom drain when it sits overnight vs. P85D, and much better range. I loved the style of the q50, but when I was driving local to the gym and home again, the EPA was disappointing. To make things worse, the current administration’s attack on fossil fuels has caused gas prices to sky rocket. In my Tesla, no more pump-rage, no worries about oil changes, no concern about brake wear, just tires. If you haven’t driven a Tesla- test drive one and find out what it is all about. Of all the different kinds of cars I have bought from different companies- the Tesla is the best. Not perfect, but the best all round.

I now have 112k miles on it and have zero issues.
sorry to hear u had to go thur all that trouble

Q50 is the Skyline. This shouldn't surprise as enthusiast. Underrated in US, yes!
"y'all are smart right? You know Infiniti is Nissan."
I had someone argue with me that Infiniti was made by Honda and I'm an idiot for not knowing more about my car.
Their reasoning: Infiniti logo slightly looks like an upside down acura logo, so it must be right?
Exactly and this car is a rebadged Skyline too. Good someone knows their cars.
@@xoulmannn In Japan, its called the V37 Skyline
@@EllisBatishchev Okay, but it's a Skyline everywhere else too, even though it's not called it. Literally, the Infiniti G35, G37, Q40, Q50, & Q60 are just half of the Skylines, which where built in the same Yokohama factory, but were converted to LHD, given Infiniti badges, & exported to the US, Taiwan, Canada, & select parts of Europe. That's all there is. It's the same car just with different badging. And the car is a Skyline because the parent company is Nissan & the parent car nameplate is the Skyline.
This is a phenomenon called rebadging and it's primarily used by companies for marketing purposes.
If you want more examples, look at these:
Acura RSX = Rebadged DC5 Integra
Acura CSX = Rebadged Civic
Chevy SS = Rebadged Holden Commodore
Mercury Capri = Rebadged Foxbody Mustang
GMC Sierra = Rebadged Chevy Silverado
Pontiac GTO = Rebadged Holden Monaro

FOUR YEARS LATER.... why in the hell is he talking about the standard Q50 when that is not the top of the line Q ?
Probably someone said it before but two of your cons are actually fixed by buying a greater trim level OR retrofitting them (super common on this platform)

Coming from a P85D, I had certain "needs" while also trying to spend a lot less money. I did a lot of research and only a well-equipped Silver Sport was comparable- in a unique way. Although the power off the line was lacking (relatively speaking), the Q50 has an EXTREMELY overlooked option that is very similar to Tesla's autopilot.
These are still being marketed as the “Nissan Skyline v37” in japan
