How to Change Thumbstick on PS5 Controller (Fix Peeling)

- Do you want to know how to change or replace the thumbstick on your PS5 controller? This will allow you to fix the peeling or broken thumbstick. Take apart your ps5 controller and take off the old thumbstick and then place the new thumbsticks on. You can buy new ones off of Amazon or Ebay. You can get thumbsticks of different heights and sizes. I'd suggest getting kontrol freeks and placing them over your thumbsticks to prevent further damage.

whats crazy is they could have easily designed the cap to just be screwed on and off and replaced in seconds.

Beyond amazing demonstrating and explanation. I am not one to take apart things but this was so easy to follow and complete. Not many tools to use either. A pair of tweezers will definitely help with the ribbons and just something to pull out the triggers. Pulled the casing apart with just my hands. 10/10 for this guy right here ‼️

Great video. Came back to it when my controller didn't charge probably. It would go blue for a second when plugged in but turn off immediately, so i assumed something was wrong with the battery. Lo and behold, the battery plug wasn't fully connected. Now it works like a charm again

Is that how you knew to change them?I feel like just recently on my dual sense edge controller my aiming is a bit off or actually way off is that a hint to replace my thumbstick controller??

It's almost impossible to be less handy than me, but with this video I quite easily replaced the thumbstick. Thanks! The only hard part not mentioned in the video is removing the front panel on the upper side, near the triggers. I had to use more force than what felt good. Otherwise, super helpful!

My question is where do I find the exact same thumbstick replacements, for the life of me I could not find any that are the same that come with the PS 5 controller, ALL of the ones I found are different and larger which I cannot stand the feel of. Can you recommend where you got those thumbstick replacements because those look like the ones that come with the PS5 controller! Great Video!

Good instructions, got the sticks changed out. My right stick feels a little stiff when pointing down and to the right, when the sticks are just on the board it feels fine. Is the thumbstick not in correctly? My sticks were also changed out at a repair shop because of stick drift and they put in a different brand, but my left stick was also resoldered and it feels smooth.

This is ridiculously harder than with Ps4 controller. Sony just makes sure that players will buy new controllers.
What ? You've got it wrong buddy... This is way easier than the PS4 controller. I've worked on multiple PS4 controllers, and the first time today working on a dualsense, immediately I noticed how much faster and easier it is to replace the thumbsticks.
Nice, did mine in 10 minutes. Had to change my thumbsticks because there was a bubble thing inside the rubber wrap. Don't have to meddle with the mic tho, just leave it attached it's not required to be removed in order to take off the main board

My left stick twists which messes with my driving. I don't know if this would fix the issue. I don't know if the stick (shown replaced here) or the stick control unit it plugs into.
For me they still work but the skin/cover on it got loose and it’s turning, the cover turning. Is there a way to fix that?!

My little brother threw my controller and the left stick came out from the front, I have no tools and the little black ring also came out, any advice?

Small white connectors came away from contact strips and wouldn't reconnect, hence controller no longer works. Not sure if it's a newer design but impossible to reconnect them because they are loose.

I just did this to fix the stick drift on my controller it worked but now the triggers are not responding at all and I reconnected them properly how do I fix this because I really don’t want to buy another controller

cant really plug the ribbons back because i have long nails but i replaced the joystick and it works perfectly! Still doesnt let me game bcs i couldnt properly place the ribbon though 😢

Be very careful with the two small cables on the bottom side.
One of my sides actually took the white connector out, instead of just the ribbon. These pins are so tiny fragile you cannot reconnect it afterwards, they just break.

Just happened to me as well. Put it back together without them and controller still seems to work so hopefully it’s just a mic attachment

Init, just pay an extra £15 for cover and replace it for a new one every time you want a new one
White cover is not coming off! I've done every screw and separated everything until you get to where the R1/R2 button and it won't separate.
But can replacing just the top stick fix drift???
Looks like I'm just going to get a cover. It would have been nice if Sony designed it so that the front and back case could come off independently for easy maintenance.
I’ve done many controllers, just a heads up, so not be rough when tiring to install aftermarket thumbsticks, I did that and sadly created drift, but I was also full forcing it it, just a note

I got an answer from the Sony-Playstation support in the mean-time: "there is no natural rubber or latex used in any of the outer parts of the controller."

Lmao I did very well I’d say for my first DualSense repair. I mean I’ve already experienced repairing controllers as I’ve torn apart a lot of DUALSHOCK 4s in the past. My right stick for my dualsense came out as it had stick drift which was pissing me off, I took it apart put it back together and now somehow the stick drift has disappeared lmao my controller is 11 months old aswell
My right stick feels more sensitive now and has barely any drift on it anymore, there was probably some dirt or dust in there that got away which I didn’t see or notice but the back of my controller inside was a bit dirty which I have obviously cleaned whilst taking it apart and putting it back together

This is so needlessly complicated to replace a piece of plastic that can accidentally pop out of the controller. Great video, but Sony makes me hate them more and more every day.
I had issues with peeling thumb sticks and used your tutorial video to replace them. Took me approx. 20 mins despite not having much knowledge before. Video helped immensely. Thanks

There is a tiny piece of plastic under the gold ribbon cable that you press in and when you find it the board should pop up good luck 👍
These controllers are so fragile 😭 I dropped this thing from a 2ft drop on accident and the thumb stick is completely popping out
