    1:45 You have _a_ Komplete Kontrol keyboard. So do I, but mine is the S49mkII and yours is the S61mkII.
    The A-series don't have those keys though they are still Komplete Kontrol keyboards.
    That said, it may just be mispronounciation, no big deal, just want to inform the people who don't know that it is a series of keyboards.

    • @PendelSteven
      @PendelSteven Год назад

      @@Sicolirics I'd recommend the S61mkII. When I first got my S49mkII I was amazed I didn't use my mouse or keyboard for at least half an hour if not 45 minutes. You can clearly see what virtual instrument you are using, the presets are easily findable (unless you know the name, of course). Oh, and the lights are so handy if there's a sound in a sample library that's just on 12 keys, you know? Just look at the lights and you know where you need to play. That's why the S-series is awesome!

In addition to some old guitars and basses, already included in the previous library, now there is my FunkyBass, AcousticGuitar, the ClassicGuitar samples, and other stuff. Kontakt’s Outputs section is the most cumbersome, obtuse thing in all of computer software. I was really hoping they would update that. Even though I don’t use contact multitimbrally anymore, there are still multi-out instruments (like Drum instruments) that would benefit from an updated Outputs setup.

    For those of us who own the S series NI keyboard the default program to use is Komplete Kontrol since not only does it give you access to your Kontakt library but also with NKS you have control over many of your vst instruments including many that are 3rd party in addition it allows you full configuration of the keyboard itself. Kontakt 7 is just a cut down version of Komplete Kontrol but it should be noted from my own experience you cannot get another manufacturers Midi keyboard controller to work inside Kontrol only those made by NI.

    Thanks for the concise overview, Jef! Really useful for those of us, who are on the fence about upgrading at this time!
    Kontakt is such an amazing case study in the trade-offs between superb backwards compatibility vs. keeping up-to-date with new hardware, operating system and DAW capabilities.
    Clearly Kontakt has been prioritized to maintain amazing backwards compatibility for even ancient libraries. As a result those old Kontakt libraries have survived dramatic technology discontinuations. From Power PC to Apple Silicon, 32 to 64bit and VST2 to VST3. So while I'm not necessarily excited about Kontakt 7, I do respect Native Instruments deeply for their commitment to Kontakt library backwards compatibility. It comes with trade-offs, but dragging so many legacy libraries into the present technology is remarkable.
    For Apple Silicon Users ( M1 and M2), Kontakt 7 is probably a shorter term higher value proposition, also because it's VST3. For many Windows users and MacOS on Intel users, the urgency to upgrade to Kontakt 7 is probably quite a bit lower in the short term.

One thing I found was if you save favorites in standalone Kontakt 7 library view - they actually show up as favorites in KK as well (and vice versa) as long as they’re not third party obviously. Unfortunately when you run Komplete 7 in KK and use Kontakt’s new library view, it doesn’t work well with the KK browser since you now have two separate browsers and my KK S49mkII only controls the KK browser, not the Kontakt one. Standalone, the new Kontakt is better than 6, but I’m not sure it’s really worth it to buy on its own. And why Kontakt still doesn’t play nice with the KK keyboards when running standalone - who knows. No arp/chorus, no light guide. Anyway, those are just my observations. You really cannot expect much from buying just kontakt product. For example, Orchestral Tools libs such as Metropolis Ark1 cost 3x more.. Nevertheless its good to spice up the mix with some elements from kontakt and probably not using it too much as a front instrument :D

    First of all, thanks for a fine and clear guide on this one 👍🏻 I have a question about the instances part. • @jefgibbons
      @jefgibbons  Год назад

      Thanks Maik! I’m not quite sure what you mean, but adding separate instances of Kontakt would take a tiny bit more resources than loading a bunch of patches in one Kontakt, but I think it’s negligible with todays computers…

    • @maikvanrossum
      @maikvanrossum Год назад

      @@jefgibbons well, I guess that you did understand 😉 as that’s what I meant / would like to know. As far as I know, running a completely separate instance of an application, would require the same amount of cpu and ram for that second instance. Running a second window (so only UI) within the same ‘master application’ would add it to the same thread. May be I’m wrong, but that’s why I’m asking. And, how does this work within Maschine or Maschine Plus? The latter has far more limited resources, so duplicating for instance the Sampler module would be more resource intensive then using the same ‘trick’ over there, too.

    Great video! Quick question! This is in regards to Kontakt instruments. I would like to know the steps necessary to remove the default panning effect generated by key positioning. For example, with Straylight, I have the preset called "As Wide As" loaded. When I press a key on the right side of my midi keyboard, it sounds louder on my right headphone; the same goes for the left side. The problem arises if the project I am working on consists primarily of lower pitches (causing the left headphone or speaker to be louder) or consists primarily of higher pitches (causing the right headphone or speaker to be louder). This causes the track to sound disproportionate when I want it to sound evenly distributed between both headphones or speakers. I want a centered sound instead of a sound dictated by key positioning. I've researched tutorials and gone through the Kontakt manual, but I can't seem to figure it out. How can I resolve this? I would appreciate any advice. Thank you.

But notice how Jeff almost exclusively used the old browser while checking out the factory library…I have a feeling I will too. Sigh…at least they’re trying.
    The more I think about it, it would be challenging (if not physically impossible) to accommodate a fully-featured browser and a decent sized instrument interface all in one window.
    Instrument interface scalability (if it were offered) would be dependent on each individual instrument’s wallpaper, I assume…which would be out of Kontakt’s hands.

Unfortunately, I believe at some point in the future NI will need to decide if they want to make a new version of Kontakt that is NOT backwards compatible to truly make the UI more modern. Of course, this would require a lot of work for their partners who would be frustrated. Tough decision.

      If you’re new to it, komplete 13 is more than enough to keep you busy!! Big additions are the better guitars and bass… but you’ll have the sunburst in 13… then Lores, piano colors, ashlight… and the extra expansions… definitely worth $400, but if you can wait a year on those the summer of sound sale usually brings updates for 50% off. I’m just not sure if it will be less than $400 or not.

    When In Kontakt will the feature "midi drag" or feature "midi capture" from any library to DAW?

  • @Mars_Monkey
    @Mars_Monkey Год назад +2

    I played with it a little in the new Kontakt player...
    I don't know?! I kind of felt like they should have kept Komplete as the visual, easy to use, instrument control center. While, obviously, keeping Maschine as the DAW/plugin to use for production in and out of hosts. Everything else (like kontakt) should have just been kept as instrument interfaces. We don't need Kontakt to behave like Komplete Kontrol, when we have Komplete Kontrol to do all that. We need Kontakt to act like the sampler that it is, with intuitive, yet easy, controls to reach our desired effect.
    I feel like Native Instruments has the bones to build the best product on the market, but management is just missing the details. They could have Native Access as their download/library/settings center, Komplete Kontrol as their seamless software/instrument/effect/audio/midi/controls center, and Maschine as the DAW/production/composition center (think bitwig or ableton level). Where in Komplete Kontrol, when you choose an instrument (instruments), the Komplete Kontrol interface gets completely out of the way, until recalled, that can be controlled with all Native and 3rd party Hardware. Komplete with single to multi instrument configurations to be used as a standalone or plugin; and Maschine as the composition center/DAW with intuitive landscapes for building, with easy to use cross-platform integration.
    They, pretty much, already have this... they just need to simplify the interfaces, GUIs and the hierarchy when coding for an intuitively based system.
    I don't want to have to copy library settings or databases from the same product line 3 times. I want to be able to control all of that from Komplete Kontrol, so when I open Maschine, it's there, to just start creating. Scrap the "controller setup" and "creator" apps and just make them a part of Komplete Kontrol.
    3 apps to rule them all! Native Access/Komplete Kontrol/Maschine.

    Is it possible to turn the reverb off on all the categories: beats, orchestra and all of the other groups? If so, how does the new orchestral factory sound without reverb and do the sounds come with enough velocity layers for these to sounds realistic? Is the orchestra the only new sounds? Thank you for doing this video.
    I do buy graphics because this is what attract the buyer but if I can find out the patches are not usable then that helps me not buy the product. I noticed: the guitar had reverb on it and if there is no close mic then that would be difficult to use for me.

  • @shemusmcquillaide

    Pharlight and Straylight don't work that well in Maschine apparently because of the enormous cpu demands of some patches in the old Kontakt. My cpu meter in Ableton (I run Maschine within Ableton) goes up to 120% at the push of one Maschine pad and it sputters and crackles. Judging by the many people who have commented on this problem on the NI forums I know its not just me. I'm hoping they have done something about that problem but as we know fixing stuff doesn't sell software and NI's attitude doesn't suggest they have done anything about the issue for Kontakt 7. On the NI forum their official moderators just spin it as, yeah thats how it supposed to be, as though wow isn't it awesome, these instruments are so cutting edge you can't use them 100%. Clever chaps. I have tremendous computing power, I can stack tons and tons of instruments and tracks without any problems, but with certain patches just one instance of Pharlight or Straylight in Maschine 2(it all seems to work OK as a plug-in track in Ableton) and the computer is on its knees horrifically crackling, begging me to stop. I can suffer through having all of my tracks in Maschine and then having a QWERTY keyboard controlled Pharlight or Straylight as an Ableton track, but I prefer using the Maschine Controller. I see Straylight and Pharlight as tragically semi-broken plug-ins, not as a Masserati I can't reall use because I'm out of money to purchase a quantum computer as the NI forum moderators seem to suggest. They sound so amazing on patches where they work but its not fair to ask people to shell out money to the samee tune as other plug-ins that work 100% witout the use of a quantum computer.
