This was phenomenal Jef. I appreciate all the time and care you put into these. I learned a ton bout Massv X I never had the time or any reason to go look into the engine on this thing. You demystified the whole package. This was wonderful!

Amazing explanation! Just reignited my creativity and purchased NI Ultimate 14 and a Komplete Kontrol. Watching your vids are educating before I deep dive.
Thank you for this video! I was definitely most confused by the massive x performer functions before this, its so different from the OG massive which I know like the back of my hand. Would love a more in depth dive on it!
Clear and really well delivered..you're a great educator the teaching style is brilliant..love it..I always learn lots on this channel (the how to use time warp video of yours was a game changer for me 👍 ).
Yep, this so well explained. I use this great synth everyday but do find the interface a bit baffling. You explained everything so clearly and now I can’t wait to boot up again and have a good twiddle. Subbed!
I know why you're using Cubase and not Maschine. NI are you watching this? Why is there still no aftertouch support in Maschine? It's just a basic MIDI CC like the mod wheel. The funny thing is that the Maschine controller supports aftertouch but the software doesn't. But still a great video! Massive X is a beast of a synth 😎 BTW, at 29:57 I thought someone was yelling in the background 😂😂😂
Kinda true!!! Actually in Maschine I was getting some glitching on my macros... but not in Cubase! I've never noticed it before and I'm temporarily on an old MBP...
Thank you for this, I’ve found massive x to be entirely too layered to get into so far, but your break down helps a lot. Think I’ll try to rebuild some my Europa patches in it and see if my basic understanding holds out :)
Interesting. I've got to admit I slept a bit on Massive X. There was a lot of negativity when it came out because I think people had been expecting something like an improved Massive and they got this completely different synth. But I really like that they did their own thing (and there's still Serum if you want an improved Massive). The UI is a bit different too. The range of oscillator modes and different filters is what sets it apart I think. Just the other week I was going through the factory library (and expansions) and it really has a lot of fantastic sounds with tons of diversity. I'm still not sure if I'd recommend it to people as an individual purchase because there are so many good synth VSTs to choose from now, but if you got it as part of Komplete, it's definitely worth your time to check it out.
Yeh I agree, I remember when it first came out they didn't even have the blue visual feedback shapes working for the envelopes, they just had static blue shaped image. I think it was completely stupid to release it in such a unfinsihed state since it just got them so much hate and now its a bit of an outcast and isn't really a 'mainstream' synth. However for those of us that can look past the fact it isn't very popular, it is a little powerhouse that sounds amazing and I guess at the end of the day it's good for originility to use a non mainstream synth like serum which every man and his dog is using.
jeff mate.. how do you get the filter to retrigger? i have the polyphony on 1 mono... no legato no trill and engine setup on reset all...but it does that thing same as some synths where if the filter envelopes release is to long the filter isnt the same as when you first press it... any help :D
10:50 for anyone who is interested in a midi controller, never get the Komplete kontrol A series controller, the macro knobs on it just never work. The unit only enters "plug in" mode in some circumstances. I thought at least with Massive X that I could get it to work. No dice. It just stays in DAW mode. It's supposed to change to plugin mode when holding down SHIFT and using the plugin button but it doesn't stick. Spent more time then I care to admit trying to get this stupid controller to map it's knobs to any plugin but it refuses. Maybe the S series doesn't have this problem.
That sucks man, you’re definitely using massive x inside Komplete kontrol software right? It won’t work if you just open massive x by itself in your daw
Love massive X but I noticed when I created a saw stack it got my brand new 4k M1 Max Macbook pro to hit 100% in Ableton. Any clue why Massive seems to be so CPU intensive? I know I did max out the voices but it was still a surprise lol.
I wish NI would program their presets to make the most of the ribbon controller. I own a very old 90’s Yamaha hardware synth and for almost every preset the ribbon controller does something very cool and interesting to the sound!
That's a really good point. Hopefully the patch-makers will get wind of this for future patches, we can really learn from them for inspiration on our own patches!
Howdy Jef! I've been deep diving into Massive X since it first came out and I really love it. I created a huge bank of sounds and was wondering if I could send them to you for your review and opinion? 290 patches total. Thank you - Operculum
Sweet! Of course! Are you planning to sell them? Head to www.gibbonscreative.ca and there’s a contact page there. I’ll email you back and then you can send me the files.
I too am bummed about this… it has so much potential, but it feels like they’ve abandoned it because it was poorly received. If they had just called it something else everyone would have loved it…. But the massive fanboys ruined it… not that I’m bitter or anything!
@@jefgibbonsbut the funny thing is that this synth is one of the best, with the best sound of all and the most fun for sound design. i think if they do a big update that changes the bits that people hate such as the GUI (i dont get why thou) they may win people back. at some point as OS evolves they will be forced to update at least the drivers. they cannot just let it die and discontinue it. it is not a cheap synth, We paid money for it
Hopefully in a few weeks I have my first ever mac product (macbook pro M1 Max) but isn't Massive X one of the NI products that is still not M1 compatible after several years? It does run fine on my AMD desktop pc fine though

@@jefgibbons Indeed, I used Nexus for years and it does everything I need it to do. Kontakt and Massive are just so confusing to me at times. It takes like 30 minutes just to make the sound the way I want it. Too many knobs and the ones I want to use in the first place aren't in simple spots.

@@jameswalker3869 Honestly, the way you can dig in with the Performers is so spectacular... So underrated!
is there a way to double the tempo? For example your project is 80 bpm and you want to make the massive sequence be 160
Off the top of my head, try the rate knob on the sequence, that should do it!
You should use Rate knob which allows you to even 8x the temp (and 1/8x too).
love the synth. sounds great, but it barely runs on my computer so i can't use it.
