Id say so. Its logical enough and with an instrument like this, you're supposed to not only learn it, but know it, and produce music with it as an alternative or complement to your daw. If it was way simpler it would also not be able to have the full beat production capability. Also don't underestimate that the buttons and knobs are in the same place at all times with a somewhat linear workflow, that means you can learn it to muscle memory and in a tactile way. In a daw you rarely can rarely get to that seamless integration between brain/intention/execution.
It's an awesome, portable, nearly perfect live groovebox! Not so menu divey like octa and digitakt, buttoney yes, but not so updatedly whored like sp404 and definitely better accesible during live performances then tr8s and those. Seqtrek has no screen and the sampler is toyish in comparison. But it lacks some features the ep33 had - recording fx and songmode f.e.
I appreciate that you got straight to showing how the unit works instead of giving an unnecessarily long winded intro… the video feels as if one of my friends is showing me how to use the equipment 😎👍🏽
Almost. I think there should be a 200€ extra Knockout IIV version, with multi-colour VFD tube and 4x D-cell batteries. It plays too much wannabe-VFD not to deliver an option for the real deal.
I was just about done with TE with the direction they were going..selling their gear at scalper prices. A tiny mixer and a tape player with a jog wheel at nearly $1500..but this sampler at this price point..amazing. This thing is gorgeous
Seems like a direct SP-404 competitor, with better workflow and lower price... I really don't know why they don't make these kinda products all the time. (Although WAY less sample memory, just 20 seconds, apparently, which certainly isn't enough to sample a whole bunch of loops to use for a live set, if that's what you need.)
The field series is a no compromise project. The majority of parts are custom designed, and manufactured at insane precision with no tolerance for deviation. It’s a relatively small company, so they can’t develop that many projects at the same time. They likely had to focus on finishing the field system before they could start focusing on the EP-133 and other projects.
@@RegebroRepairs The workflow definitely looks faster and more intuitive than the sp404...but I absolutely love my 404mk2. Probably my favorite piece of gear. @@truecuckoo Well, I'm looking at this from a consumer/amateur musician standpoint as opposed to a pro musician or content creator. I think most people started going down the Teenage Engineering rabbit hole with the pocket operators, which are powerful and extremely fun at a sub $100 price point. When I bought an op1 new , it was $769 after a slight discount. The 30% increase in price for the op1 and the over 100% increase in price from the original op1 to the op1 field, to me, just doesn't seem justified..regardless of the nuances of product manufacturing.

The interface also looks so good and really refreshing. Will be waiting for more reviews but really hope that this does well cause it such a breath of fresh air in terms of new gear design!!
Here we go again. I've gone full circle. I started my musical journey a few years ago with an OP-Z having watched your videos on it. I've been through all the gear (Op-1 and OP-1 Field included) but this thing just looks like the kind of thing that really ticks the boxes for me. TL:DR I've just ordered one though your affiliate link. My little way to say thanks for bringing me back to where it all began for me 🥰
Give them time, they've brought lots of awesome stuff to the Field and I'm sure they'll continue to. Besides, there is no alternative to the Field.@@Neiltrama1
I was thinking "What the hell are they thinking? What market segment are they aiming at because there's nothing new here, although it looks fantastic". But if it's $300 I get it, I was guessing $1500 initially lol.
Yeah what the heck. I was going to close the video when I saw Teenage Engineering. I do own all their POs but given the exorbitant prices or their other things, I'm not a fan, but this @ $300 is a decent price, for TE standards. May order one!
I'm so excited to hear all the amazing music folks will make with this thing. Everything you need to make music for $300. Such a perfect device for someone's first piece of hardware too. TE was right on the money with this one!
@@TimbobsI was thinking the same thing actually, I wonder if their $250 toy cars are there as a safety net in case they sell less units of this than they need to, lol
A strong entry when compared to other similarly priced groooveboxes! Looks fantastic too. I looked through the guide at TE's site and the only function it lacks that I would have expected is resampling.
I was thinking this too, especially with the lack of individual sound params like per pad filters, resampling seems pretty necessary to get the most out of this box.
This is the dopest calculator I've seen! Seriously, thank you for showing the device in depth; slowly inching towards buying something from Teenage Engineering.
If you buy one because of this video, don’t forget to use the affiliate link from the description. Seems obvious, but supporting creators when you can is important. Thanks Cuckoo for another great vid.
This is incredible! Bound to be a hit! It’s amazing! Considering the price point of the KO, my brain does not know how they did it for 299 USD! Amazing video as always! Thanks for showing this off to all of us.
Is there no mention of how to export your tracks from this device onto PC? It would be a lot more useful if we could render out our individual layers as well as a master out render. Wav format at least but also midi tracks if possible as well.
Good stuff Cuckoo! You turned me onto Elektron and TE gear and learned a lot since watching your videos. This looks great and I am a sucker for samplers.
Hey Cuckoo, this is yoof from back in the battle days. I hope you're well! The new product looks like a lot of fun and sounds pretty affordable! I'm very tempted :) Thanks for the excellent product demo ❤
I’m almost dead set on getting one to replace my circuit rhythm! Also, I’m So glad you brought out the MegafM to try on this device. Watching you play it always inspires me to use mine more. Definitely going to pair my MegaFM with the KO if I get one!
At $300 (and this is the new one mind you that fixed the fader issue that EVERYONE was complaining about) - is a steal. A) It is a beautiful piece of product design and B) - it works soooo well!!
I actually prefer the step sequencer on po33, you can just light up the step you want by press it. this thing seems you need to navigate to every step with -/+ button
What an amazing little Rhythm Device! ,,never ever bought into this type of gear,,but I frickin love it!! Love the video Mr Cuckoo,,those guys at T.E should most certainly get you on board,,super demonstration of this unit,,and you’ve just gone and sold it to me!!! Absolutely sublime ❤🙏
Ive used the original PO KO a hell of a lot, its secretly an ambient loop making monster. One thing which requires a time consuming workaround is soloing individual sounds when recording out into Ableton. My question is, can you solo individual groups/samples in order to record out? If so, im in.
Thank you Cuckoo. I enjoy your demos very much. Your music take ingredients from a musical kitchen and always ends in a wonderful dish. Never fails to amaze me.
Just watched the first few minutes and I am really stoked. Looks super fun and makes me curious as to what the future of this new product line will bring. With the way the display works, would you say that it kinda prevents it from getting substantial new features through firmware updates, since everything already has its own icons etc...?
can additional faders from external controller be midi-assigned to different parameters (eg. pitch, effects, ...) to be performed simultaneous by moving faders with fingers?
The price! 🙌 Does it have undo? Like, if you try to correct the timing of a cymbel at a particular place in the track, but regret it, can you go back to the uncorrected version?
A: what an amazing video, you really do your research and learning, and its all so mellow and layed back, love your style sir! B: that is one impressive bit of kit, how much thought has gone in to that is just amazing. meanwhile i really love the display solution, its just so un-distracting, it just gives you what you need to know, with simple LED backlit icons, that's impressive! minimal hardware compensated with maximal functionality, as an electronics engineer i'm duly impressed!

TL:DR I've just ordered one though your affiliate link. My little way to say thanks for bringing me back to where it all began for me 🥰
That design is insanely nice…looking forward :)
O shit it's sun wu
You know who it is
Looking back, it's a big Speak & Spell.
@@Neiltrama1 you contribute absolutely nothing
Give them time, they've brought lots of awesome stuff to the Field and I'm sure they'll continue to. Besides, there is no alternative to the Field.@@Neiltrama1
Reminds me of those classic big calculators I used as a kid. Great to see that’s it’s at a price to suit our pockets 😊
Key pressing sounds like an old-school calctulator as well :)
Just missing a roll of paper sticking out the top!! 😂
@@treeface5000😂
And it’s only 300 bucks omg. They did it again 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽. That design is amazing ❤
I was thinking "What the hell are they thinking? What market segment are they aiming at because there's nothing new here, although it looks fantastic". But if it's $300 I get it, I was guessing $1500 initially lol.
It appeals to me as a child of the 80's :)
Yeah what the heck. I was going to close the video when I saw Teenage Engineering. I do own all their POs but given the exorbitant prices or their other things, I'm not a fan, but this @ $300 is a decent price, for TE standards. May order one!
@@simonpettersson6788 it's the only sampler I'm even tempted by price wise and feature wise.
@Neiltrama1 lmao nobody cares about the hipster synth, this is functionally fire 🔥🔥🔥
It looks simply complicated and crazy easy to use as it shows you A LOT of info on fly. Nice layout.
I'm so excited to hear all the amazing music folks will make with this thing. Everything you need to make music for $300. Such a perfect device for someone's first piece of hardware too. TE was right on the money with this one!
Rad! I was expecting it to be $1000. With Elektron gear getting very pricey, I'd totally consider something like this. Fantastic design, too!
How much is it
@@legendsflashback $299 :)
Yeah me too , the price was a shock !!
@@kylerodriguez9879 awesome oh btw can I pan a sound all way left or right for output so drums left and samples right
64 Mb of memory is practically for free ) So it's explainable in terms of TE main prices.
Ive been critical of TE for years on their pricing but this is fantastic at $300. Not sure how they did it but hats off. Ordered mine.
They can probably make these at 300 because they sell their super niche stuff at high prices. And that’s fine with me 🤷
@@TimbobsI was thinking the same thing actually, I wonder if their $250 toy cars are there as a safety net in case they sell less units of this than they need to, lol
@@rorz999 Not the fucking toy cars😭 I almost choked when i saw the price of those cars. Glad the EP series is going to be more affordable
@@Lokua Agreed, maybe this is something they are working on adding it via a firmware update.
That’s an unfortunate oversight
This is the dopest calculator I've seen!
Seriously, thank you for showing the device in depth; slowly inching towards buying something from Teenage Engineering.
If you buy one because of this video, don’t forget to use the affiliate link from the description. Seems obvious, but supporting creators when you can is important.
Thanks Cuckoo for another great vid.
FINALLY A CUCKOO AFFILIATE LINK! We buy all this gear because you explain it so well and make it sound so good!
This is incredible! Bound to be a hit! It’s amazing! Considering the price point of the KO, my brain does not know how they did it for 299 USD! Amazing video as always! Thanks for showing this off to all of us.
Aftermarket components, VS custom stuff they had to design and manufacture for the Field series.
@@opart I kinda love that they likely started with a pricepoint in mind to see what they could do in that space.
Is it 8 12 or 16 bit
@@legendsflashback sampling frequency: 46 kHz / 16-bit
@@opart oh thank you so much, seems like an asrx more than mpc
Is there no mention of how to export your tracks from this device onto PC? It would be a lot more useful if we could render out our individual layers as well as a master out render. Wav format at least but also midi tracks if possible as well.
yo this is crazy...alot of people are really excited about this thing. It's incredibly neat and built to be simplistic.
This is the most amazing machine I've ever seen...when he busted out the electric organ sounds...I was floored.
I am very impressed with the quality of editing and subtle graphics at top left, which is honey to-my-eyes.
At $300 (and this is the new one mind you that fixed the fader issue that EVERYONE was complaining about) - is a steal. A) It is a beautiful piece of product design and B) - it works soooo well!!
they're gonna sell bucketloads of these. really cool device
Finally the calculator I always wanted to take to school!
all i got was that shitty Texas Instruments in the 80s.
Casio fanboy myself@@logemann74
I actually prefer the step sequencer on po33, you can just light up the step you want by press it. this thing seems you need to navigate to every step with -/+ button
Yea the sequencer is nice and simple on the po33, but the ep133 has better sampling capability.
Cuckoo is so good at this. Teaching. This one is funnier than usual. Looks like it was a good day❤.
did you break the fader yet
Ive used the original PO KO a hell of a lot, its secretly an ambient loop making monster. One thing which requires a time consuming workaround is soloing individual sounds when recording out into Ableton. My question is, can you solo individual groups/samples in order to record out? If so, im in.
That ‘サンプラーSampler’ written in Japanese looks cool😂❤
You have a beautiful aura that shines on everyone lucky enough to stumble across your videos, hope you are feeling nice
Thank you so much monke friend 🙏🏼
Thank you Cuckoo. I enjoy your demos very much. Your music take ingredients from a musical kitchen and always ends in a wonderful dish. Never fails to amaze me.
Just watched the first few minutes and I am really stoked. Looks super fun and makes me curious as to what the future of this new product line will bring.
With the way the display works, would you say that it kinda prevents it from getting substantial new features through firmware updates, since everything already has its own icons etc...?
Probably doesn’t really need more features. It looks like they could add FX.
@Neiltrama1 don't tell people what to do. Live your own life and shut up.
@@zoned7609 DO NOT SAY THE TRUTH ABOUT THEIR PREVIOUS PRODUCTS!!! PLEASE!!!
The actual 404 killer… not Korg.
I’m not even a TE fanboy, and this looks dope
Missing vinyl simulator and resampling though, but looking dope.
this will go really well with my TE table
can additional faders from external controller be midi-assigned to different parameters (eg. pitch, effects, ...) to be performed simultaneous by moving faders with fingers?
Best explanation I've ever heard and a great introduction to higher education to utilize. Great Tool. Helps a lot. Thank you so much.
that's a weird looking calculator
The price! 🙌 Does it have undo? Like, if you try to correct the timing of a cymbel at a particular place in the track, but regret it, can you go back to the uncorrected version?
Sick
Jeremy, I was hoping you were also a beta tester...
🙏🏼😌
So stoked about the design choices TE made for this, it looks so fun to play. And great tutorial Cuckoo!
Lately I was about done with TE and their quite interesting but overpriced product. And then, they drop this "One more thing..." moment that leave everybody flabbergasted! THIS is what TE is all about. It's simply beautiful in all is aspects!
2000 likes for this vid, I got pretty lost in the jam in the best way possible. Waiting for cuckoo's next album using this amazing gear!
Oh thanks so much Bettina! I always appreciate your kind comments! 🙏🏼
I really don't know why anyone would get this over a used Sp 404 SX (for half the price) but great video as always Cuckoo!
Or Korg KAOSS Replay
@@toitoitoy the $999 replay??
@@toitoitoy replay cannot make songs just play sounds

You can't get a used 404 sx for 150 and you certainly can't find any sp404 being sold for half the retail price. Not sure what you're on about.
Incredible design in and out. Reminds me of Nintendo 8-bit box colors. So likable! 🤩
i really like your chaotic projects (31:00 Minutes - 32:17). I have feelings like when i hear Aphex Twin. You really shout work this out and make a crazy chaotic EP or something :) i would recommend and appreciate it ;)
Just got mine and the shift button doesn't work at all and the speaker has stopped working. Returning to TE for a refund. Shame as I was really looking forward to using the sampler!
I hoped they would release OP-Z Field today 😢
I was literally just wishing for the same. Such an amazing device, it just needed to not bend and needed some more synth options.
DO NOT BUY until they sort out the defective fader problem...like a bunch of other people, I have to return mine as well.
Did it get sorted out?
@@PhilVGyes they've fixed it. I got a unit fully working, and word from inside connection that reported it as fixed
I am no music producer, engineer or really anything music. But this is just so awesome that it makes me want to learn these kinds of stuff.
Watching this with a big smile on my face, knowing I have a KO II on it's way to me in the mail! Thanks so much for sharing and having fun!
