Star Wars: Inside the AT-M6

- Here is a detailed 3D animation of the exterior and interior of the AT-M6. Enjoy.
The AT-M6 made its first appearance in the 2017 film Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi, as the First Order variant of the AT-AT or All Terrain Armored Transport of the Galactic Empire, being larger and more stable.
The All-Terrain MegaCaliber Six (AT-M6), also known as the Gorilla Walker or First Order Heavy Assault Walker, was a mobile heavy artillery walker used by the First Order during their war with the Resistance.
It was intended to make siege warfare simple and short, the M6 is powerful enough to punch through shields rated to deflect bombardments from orbit.
It was also considered the biggest walker in the First Order's arsenal. The AT-M6 was much larger than the AT-AT used by the Galactic Empire.
It was operated by the First Order Walker Drivers, who were responsible for the use of the machine's most distinctive feature, a single MegaCaliber Six turbolaser cannon mounted to its back for which the walker was named.
The legs were modified to bear increased weight and to provide the stability needed to brace the craft against the canon’s massive recoil.
Here is a list of books and tools I have used to recreate these animations. (affiliate links)

Effectively a Star Destroyer's heavy turbolasers mounted onto a walker, gotta say I'm impressed. The height does make for a better direct fire artillery support.
Actually the FO used their own AT-AT that is slightly larger than the Empire's. The two vehicles had different purposes. The AT-AT was still an armored troop carrier, the M6 was more like assault artillery.
Honestly, my biggest gripe with the M6 is that it’s design has a try hard ‘evil’ look. Especially with the cockpit windows where they are slanted to look like mean eyes.
It’s a machine in a Star Wars setting. It shouldn’t ‘look’ evil. It should be imposing yes. But adding a mean personality through design is not a trait in other designs of other vehicles in The same setting. It stands out as someone in production treating the vehicle as a means to exaggerate tone in a scene whereas other vehicles look like they came out of a factory design process that wasn’t developed by a muscle car ego driven madman.
It was made by a force that wanted intimidation twit.
Just one more kernel of corn in the giant turd that was TLJ
I mean the point of the AT-ATs/M6 was alot about being scary/imposing looking especially since people knew how the old AT-AT were defeated, they made the M6 scarier to show it was that much "better" than the AT-AT or an illusion of it to the galaxy. Also the first order in general looked more edgy/mean and not that far from that muscle car ego driven madmen. Heck you even see that trend in cars IRL nowadays were since the 2010s cars look more and more edgy/angry looking compared to the more roundy dull ones of the early 2000s, so yes the look kinda matters when you sell a product even for an empire, first order gears represents them 100%.
I think you may have just put the finger on my own personal issue with its overdesigned appearance. But then that also reflects for me just how try-hard evil but ultimately pantomimish the First Order came across as in the movies.
Regardless the AT-TE is still my favourite Walker.
@Hate fueled because in warhammer 40k everything is BIG and extreme, not as much in sw
The biggest flaw is the exposed knees. Coupled w/ it’s high center of gravity & 4-leg locomotion, targeting a single knee wouldn’t be too terribly hard to destroy, & destroying it would bring the entire walker crashing down from a great height & kill the entire crew.
All by destroying 1 exposed knee-joint.
I didn't think about the knees, good point.
In the entirety of atat style walkers, only one has ever been knocked down, and that was the one Luke tripped over on hoth. The legs are actually the strongest parts of these walkers due to the fact that they are required to carry the load of the walker. ATAT's are also closely guarded by ATST's which serve to prevent damage to the main walkers to ensure the cargo makes it to their destination.
Since Luke was able to take the time to, literally, fly circles around that AT-AT over & over & over, it doesn’t seem the AT-ST’s do much to protect the AT-AT’s. A small sprint missile to a knee is much faster than hooking a line to it & flying around, & around, & around to trip it.
@@bostontracy5151 Luke was literally the best pilot in the galaxy at the time, who was so skilled and deadly that he was seen as a myth among the galaxy before the new republic became a thing. The dude took out two death stars with marginal help. Luke was the only person capable of taking down a walker by himself. Also, missiles and actual firearms are actually some of the rarest weapons due to their price in the star wars universe. Blasters are way cheaper and allow the user to carry way more ammo without being weighed down. And missiles typically aren't used since they have their own counterparts which function similarly with differences. It's like saying that if I was born in the medieval ages I could easily take out anyone using a gun (which wouldn't be available at the time)
It can shoot backwards? The head can turn 90° in either direction & fire; or more than 90°, for that matter? No, it can’t.
It’s very powerful when coming at you straight-on or at the slightest of angles. Flanking it discounts it’s advantages.
Great to see your presentations back here on RUclips HalfScreen….they brighten up this planet like the twin suns of Tatooine….the AT-M6 is one of the greatest assets to the New Order just like YOU are giving us amazing Star Wars Vehicle & Hardware projections to your fans…. Welcome back Mikey! It's has been awhile since I release an animation.
The animations for this channel are phenomenal! Thanks for crediting Fractal Sponge. Too many people use his work without credit.
Thanks for watching. I'm trying to give credit where credit is due.
The at M6 and the at at are my most favorite star wars walkers
THANK YOU for this video!! I have the Revell kit and I took my sweet time building it because I wanted to detail the parts before assembling them I had no idea this thing was bigger than the AT-AT!! thanks to your video I have deeper appreciation for this model keep em coming👍🤓❤
You are so welcome!
If the First Orde decide to fuse this one, AT-M6 or the At-At with the republic variant AT-TE, oh man, that would be a beast of a Mecha able to engage anything and possibly able to repel anything
One of my favorite walkers
What I love is how shit-your-pants scary they are. Like imagine being a resistance fighter and seeing those beasts looming in the distance
They should’ve made it to where the AT-M6 could stand up on two hind legs and run compensating loss of energy somewhere else for stamina.
This is amazing work. Thanks for making these.
Glad you enjoy it!
I enjoyed watching this animation of the AT-M6.
Quite the upgrade from the AT-AT. Thing just looks mean 😈
It's meant for psychological warfare too. They also have cable cutters on the legs to prevent tow cables from latching on
He has finally returned!!
And there it is, the answer to the question of how to get a walker to the surface. Thanks HS
No problem.
Thinking of the mobile howizer/tanks from WWII, I think an upgraded version of the AT-TE would have been better suited to the M6 cannon. A shorter, 6-legged vehicle could have handled the weight and recoil better (IMO) than something so tall. Upgraded legs and upper body could have made it a bit faster, just remove the external (exposed!) gunner for the main cannon.
And fer cryin out loud, somebody please add a tail-gunner! haha The walkers are so exposed from the rear, they should have one or two AT-AT's walking backwards behind the formations!
Same thing. But I think AT-TE-M6 should have been significantly larger than a basic model.
Welcome back good sir, can't wait to see what you got for us next.
Thanks. I'm hoping to get back to my normal schedule.
With the way this thing was Designed and built in particular the front legs I heard people call the AT-M6 the 'Gorilla Walker' with the way it walks on it's front legs and those foot pads.
Yes.
I’ve been waiting for this forever ♾🤗🥺🥺 thank you so much 😊
You're so welcome!
@@Halfscreen 😱thank you so much for replying your my favorite 🤩
@@ethansalvari No problem
My favorite walkers in all of Star Wars!!!
They're just so menacing. They're designed to be scary.
Awesome video, well done!! 👍👍
Thank you 👍
Great video, thank you.
You are welcome!
We've never seen The AT-M6 get taken out so... It's for sure an improvement from the AT-AT and AT-TE. Plus It's my favorite star wars Vehicle.😊
I have seen these taken out, on the Star tours ride from Disney world, r2 shot the canisters on the back. As far as I know that’s a weakness but it definitely is an improvement over the old AT-AT’s.
@@brandonthetoyandgamecollector oh...I forgot about that.😶 I steal take it over the other two counterparts.✊😎
HT, my goodness, you are doing a good job.
Thanks Dale!
Another amazing video
Glad you enjoyed it
I have always said if they removed those two jet outs on the bottom of the chin of that thing it would look so much better.
Walkers are always way less efficient than normal tanks, which can take a bigger gun, have a lower center of gravity, and you don't have to worry about Luke flying around tripping you up with wire cables.
AT M6 do actually have cutting devices on the legs to cut thru cables.
Wow I like this video...good day 👍
You know I did not really care for the M6 thinking it was just a bigger Vader piece of empire equipment (like star killer base to the Death Star) but I like how it fills a artillery role vs the troop transport of the AT-AT. Shows that someone at Lucasart was a little bit creative when coming up with this.
I think it’s better then the AT AT but it’s not Practical because it’s much slower and fuel cells have no protection. It may be armored but something can come up from behind and possibly taking down the AT M6. But in a front assault it works.
It's better with a bigger gun and strong legs, but overall, still not practical.
The first order did had at-at's
Yesss I’m so glad you’re back!!! Can you do the Low Altitude Assault Transport/infantry variant? Or LAAT/i for short
I'm looking for a good 3D model.
@@Halfscreen nice
The AT-M6 looks more formidable than the AT-AT. Probably one of the best things from The Last Jedi.
When I first saw Star Wars Episode 8:The Last Jedi during the Battle when we first saw the AT-M6 Walker I was surprised the First Order had Imperial AT-AT's with them as well.
They had a lot of time to create and redesign older versions of the empire vehicles and improve them
Oh man! You're better and better!
WALKS ON KNUCKLES
Well it was modeled after a gorilla. They're actually nicknamed gorilla walkers
Love these vehicles ., wish they made the AT-M6 into a play set
There is already a lego playset.
I'd like to go to work in that thing :-)
Brilliant video sir! Loving the Star Wars knowledge you’re giving us.
No problem and thanks for watching.
@@Halfscreen keep up the good work!
It does not have the star wars feel 6,7,8,9
I've been saying for years that if I were a Star Wars universe smuggler, I would love to have as my ship a modified Y-85. I would upgrade the engines and somehow try and make her as fast and maneuverable (for her size) as the Falcon at sub-light, and then add a good hyperdrive. Maybe modify the doors for scooping space salvage like the Freemakers' "Star Scavenger".
Manifique vidéo !!!
Merci d'avoir regardé!
Interesting how they went with a Gorilla design-cue with the front legs.
It counters the toe cable maneuver from the Hoth battle.
I wish we can play as the AT-M6 in Battlefront 2
Amazing work as always. Would you consider doing Moff Gideons cruiser? I've always wondered about the layout after watching the season finale of Mandelorian season 2 and just where Luke landed and the path he took.
What an episode 🥺
I have to see if I can find any good cross-section references and a good 3D model.
My biggest gripe is with the turbolaser's fuel cells outside the walker like a big sign that says "Blow me up" at this point this thing is a combat vehicle fuck the troop transport capability and put them in the deck under the turbolaser.
I'd keep the AT-AT around and organize these things into Heavy Walker Battalions to act as close artillery support for the smaller AT-ATs.
As much as I like the design they could have made it’s scenes in the movie a lot cooler.
I like the design. But in the last jedi you gotta feel bad for those pilots driving that lone at at. You know the other gorilla walkers are making fun of them.
Honestly attacking the walkers head on was dumb did they even have any weapons that could take those walkers out I mean if they can shoot at its fuel tanks at the bank then maybe but otherwise no
Love these videos. Where do you get the technical specs for these things?
Star Wars do have these schematics online, however, sometimes it a guessing game and I have to make thing up as I go along.
The front feet make it look like it's walking on hands 🤣
It's modeled after a gorilla
could have mentioned the different crew compartments, how many troops, what types of different stores can be loaded into the at-m6
There isn't any information regarding storages space, and it can only fit 12 passenger.
I love the at-m6 mainly because of its front legs and head. To me it’s just about the looks.
The key to defending these walker is more guns there is enough room for a few more turrets . could have one on the back and each side possibly a anti personnel gun or two in the belly.
they could easily removed one of the fuel cell and added a turret.
@@Halfscreen that location would give the gunner in that position the most motivation to defend himself
@@stevedenis8292 You are probably right.
@@Halfscreen while I have you great content and awsome graphics
@@stevedenis8292 Thanks for the comment
i would really like to see you do an inside of the Class IV Siege Mandator Star Destroyer as it is one of my favourite capital ships
One day.
@@Halfscreen Did you know they had a first order AT-AT? just found it out
I just imagine training to be a at-at driver level only to see the size of an at-m6
I can't help but think someone looked at a gorilla and said that looks cool let's make it into a weapon
or gore-rilla
I LOVE STAR WARS!
Dark side so powerful.
What is that melancholic song at the beginning?
anyone? :(
Those fuel tanks on the back seem like a huge vulnerability
The back is vulnerable.
Imagine if natzi Germany weapons designers thought of the at at they would definitely attempt to build one
K but i feel like if the at at heavy cannon gets a good shot on that chin that whole thing gonna go down
Thanks for the video , those fuel cells are way too easy target.
It kind of bother me that any starfighter can blow up the fuel cells quite easily.
Was about to post about that .... Having them exposed like that is just weird and a design disaster.
good to see you again, Halfscreen. where have you been?
I'm doing fine. Unfortunately, I caught the "flu" and needed time to recover. Thanks for asking.
@@Halfscreen get well soon👍👍👍
@@gearthehuman2115 Thanks. I recovered about a month ago, just needed some motivation and inspiration.
I love the M6 design and it’s capabilities but it’s too tall making it too heavy, and slower in retro spect. I would stick with an AT-AT any day maybe the M6 for just punching through
Thanks for sharing
I Wonder what will happen if we put 5 thermal detonators on each fuel tank…
Please fo a video for the Raider 2 corvette.
I have to see if I can find a 3D model and cross-section references.
Where are the sleeping quarters if they get isolated and had to stay out for the night.
It was never mentioned.
Why are the fuel cells openly on the back?! i dont get it xD
Fell in love with the AT-M6 as soon as I saw it for the first time... what a great upgrade on the original! I don't know who would downvote this, but you have no soul.
It's an upgrade for sure, but I wish they would add another turret from behind.
The video is good but this is a disgrace to Star Wars, I just hate how these things looks
Okay, but I want one as a house.
The AT=M6 design does give it a considerably more menacing and intimidating amount of firepower, but someone in something like a X-wing can hit those turbolaser fuel cells, detonating them & blowing up the entire walker. To ground troops only, they're more powerful, but the troops using them had better have good aerial support, or all of those walkers are absolutely going up in flames to a small fighter craft with some firepower to use against those fuel cells.
I agreed. the fuel cells are totally exposed.
An Executor class Star destroyer would be great.
I wanted to do the Executor but there isn't much information on the cross-section.
Can you do Hammerhead Corvette?
Probably not since no cross-section references exist for the hammerhead corvette.
looks cool but did they really have to make it bigger than At-At. Feels like some flexing like their ships too.
Making it bigger makes more room for useful additions
Can you do spaceships from other franchises? Like Star Trek and The Expanse?
I'm thinking of doing a Star Trek NCC-1701 in the near future.
do about inside general grievous
I have to think about it.
It looks like an Elcor from mass effect.
What I think?!? Well I wish/hope Hasbro makes one, so I can put it with my original one I got back in 80's, then the newer bigger one!!!! It would be pretty big and $$$ but I'd get one!!
AT-M6 is not from Kuat Drive Yards. From Kuat Entralla Drive Yards :)
I always thought it was pretty dumb to not have a giant turret on the back of the atat, so much room for weapon hardpoints
Actually, the early AT-AT have small one at the back
AT-M6 looks kinda creepy ngl
The Monke walker
It’s a shame they’d never seen it again after the last Jedi.
Oddly enough, only on the last Jedi.
4:21 is it just me but does that not look like the jeditempel?
Can you please do the AT-ST
It's in my to do list.
@@Halfscreen yay
It’s me😂
😎😎😎
This was used by the first order not empire, btw I noticed you used imperial troops not first order troops
Se l'impero conosce l'antigravita, perche gli AT AT non vengono costruiti con dispositivo antigravita. Invece di astronavi gigantesche pensasse anche a rendere più efficaci gli AT AT.
Where were you for 2 months
I have to take a break due to health issues. Thanks for asking.
The original AT-AT will always be the more superior one of the 2
So, no pilot huh? 🤔
У этой штуки должен быть энергетический щит. Епри заходе сзади и выстреле в топливные баки, можно порощаться с эти медленным и бесполезным агрегатом.
да уж. в конструкции много недостатков
Walking base
I love Star Wars but I hate the sequels.Fantastic vedio however
Thanks.
starwars: Style over function in a nutshell....
No one was able to take down a single AT-M6 in TLJ, so I'd say it's an improvement to the AT-AT.
Well also seeing how the restistance didn’t have any air support except for the falcon but it didn’t help with the walkers the whole battle was basically just the restistance driving around in the salt
The way they remade the original trilogy and managed to fool people into thinking this was new is glorious. "Oh its not the same, this new thingamabob is twice as big!"
And with more guns.
The comment that there are "anti-starship" weapons is nonsense.
