The news Hit like a freight train
AT 62, I never thought I would have made it this far, JUST WHY before me. Lord have mercy. Mmmmph... Tell me why you chose the great ones.
Such a sad thing.. what a loss :(
😢RIP
I used to study this over and over. Rest In Heaven Shaun!
It's so great to know how much he inspired people. We miss you Shaun!
still don't believe you've passed away Shaun. Rest In Peace Maestro ❤
Just heard he passed today. Geez what a legacy. Rest well.
This lovely piece will forever remain a symbol of his legacy. RIP Shaun Martin, never to be forgotten.
One of the most beautiful compositions of the modern jazz era, easily.
I'm a guitar player, but Shaun M is one of my favorite musos of all time. I love this song especially
I agree
Others like this?
100% in agreement here. This song is pure genius.
Its paying homage to THE YELLOW JACKETS....Russel Ferrante Will Kennedy Jimmy Haslip....come on ....Im a drummer ...it pulls on several songs...they did.
This is a complement..imitation but nor a copy. Its original enough to stand alone. MIRAGE a Trois 80s jackets RICKY LAWSON and kennedy era...I love it.
Bass at 6 minutes...❤❤❤
Rest in Peace Shaun Martin 🙏🏾
RIP Shaun, always love.
Its 2023 and this is Definitely one of the best jazz songs on the internet today

Man!! RIP to one of the greatest to ever do it! This hurts!!
He is missed dearly
This might be 7 years old, but it's my new favourite song. Absolutely cannot get enough
It's funny because It's called "7 summers" similar to 7 years haha Good vibes and sound
i'm 12 years old and this is the best song ive heard in 12 years

Rest In Peace, Thank you for all the beautiful music and the inspiration.
Shaun left a legacy like no one else. Rest in peace
I discovered him through his reaction to Cory Henry in Lingus
:)))
Me too lol
G he was laughing about how fast cory was playing, but they all did very good.
@@jeremiahcanto1858 more like he was blown away by how amazing it was
@@Misa_Susaki yes exactly
The intro just sounds like: "Oh Give Thanks Unto the Lord"... like....what?!? 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Smooth Rendition of this!!
Alie! Every time i listen to the start it just reminds me of that song 🔥
I thought it was just me! Lol, ain’t no “sound like” 😊 that is definitely “Oh give thanks” 😆
Oh wow, you're right. Pretty neat.
Well, Shaun is the music director for Kirk Franklin so there's probably a fair bit of gospel influence
It also sounds spot on James by Pat Metheny
"I wanna live such a life (so) when death comes people won't morn because I die, They will celebrate because I live."
Let's celebrate Shaun. Thanks for the music
Thank you for your kind words. Shaun was an incredible person
R.I.P Shaun, you were a huge inspiration to myself and so many others
He was auch an inspiration. It is so wonderful to hear of how he connected with so many people
Man the bass solo was unbeatable. What a masterpiece!
Such an amazing solo
Jimmy Haslip ish.

Yes indeed! Just a bit annoying that they didn't film som you could see how he played.
The great Keith Taylor on bass!
I couldn't wait to pay my last respect to this man...RIP my king
He is dearly missed
incredible but true, rest in peace general , warrior. We are proud of your hard work over the years
The interplay between the percussionist and set is a thing of beauty.
😢😢😢 rest in Heaven Shaun. You will be missed.
This song is like a hug and kiss from a loved one
Prayers up for Shaun every day man ❤
This is my first track hearing Shaun's solo stuff. Totally not what I was expecting based on his work with Snarky!
+insaneintherainmusic Lol what were you expecting
+Eric Simmons I was expecting some seriously funky electronic stuff with lots of Moog to be perfectly honest. Very pleasantly surprised with a straight piano album though, it's all quality.
+samcooke343 I was expecting that too. But then it started to sound like him establishing his identity outside of the almighty pups. Plus he's a church based musician. You can hear it in the Cire of all of his songs. Probably that's why it's not as much moog and synth based stuff.
same thing on my mind too! :-D but on the other hand i think the snarky puppy style might actually really be just michael league style, not necessarily what the other band members would sound like on their solo records (given that e.g. cory henry has the funk apostoles as his solo project, which sounds wildly different from SP; now shaun has this as his solo ... :)
Nice to see you here insaneintherain
Thought the same too
I'm so glad these people are on the planet. Why doesn't this have 5 million views. Pisses me off.
kellynkarr RIGHT...
+kellynkarr It's because all the total shite with 15 million views has all the likes hahaha. It is a bizarre thing indeed. The class on youtube always seems to have less likes. You'll find more likes on some cheesy joint than on a Stevie Wonder video. Go Figure!
Exactly
Because its not some bullshit. smh
Exactly. have a cat licking it's balls and BAM, 5 billion hits . LMAO hehehehe
I listened with eyes closed, then listened and watched the video, then listened and read the comments, then listened again. I am so full and at peace. What an amazing roundtable. This should be the setting for all diplomatic events.
This is literally me right now ❤
One more twin of you guys 😊 same to me 😊
I'm a multimedia producer, I play this track anytime we set up for symposiums and high level conferences.
I'm here because I've heard of his passing. This track is a firm favourite and is on my 5 year old's playlist. RIP Mr Martin.
It's so wonderful to hear how everyone and anyone can appreciate and honor him and his music. Rest in peace Shaun Martin
i got into this song recently only to find out weeks later that the legend passed away. My condolences to the Martin family, may God bless their souls

I will continue to listen to his music and praise him for his talents. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends. Just here to pay my respects to this legend may your soul rest in peace 🕊️
There's a lot of Pat Metheny Group's older days in this tune. That's why I freaking love it. Excellent job 👍
Definitely. Also, the band Yellowjackets, which I wonder if the title is referencing.

Shaun's music, particularly this song and his amazing work with Snarky Puppy got me through a lot over the years. Hearing that he's gone is really shocking. The world is a colder place for his loss. Thanks for the many, many hours of joy, Shaun. Rest in peace.
So harsh to know he’s gone. This is a masterpiece that I’ll never ever forget😢

Rest In Heaven Shaun!
This man's playing is genius. Never get tired of seeing him perform.
This song is appropriately named. It’s such a tribute to Russell Farente & the Yellowjackets! ♥️
Oh my word yes! Love this era... such great 80's jazz synths and keys from Russell Ferrante, Tom Schuman of Spyro Gyra, Graeme Coleman of Skywalk and Russ Freeman of The Rippingtons. All those guys of course being influenced by Chick Corea, Jan Hammer and David Sancious from the decade before. I'd say Shaun's tune here brings to mind passages from Ferrante's tunes from the Mirage A Trois album...especially Claires Song, Elamar and Nimbus. Some of my favorite stuff ever! Great job Shaun!
Yes..folk act like they dont know YELLOW JACKETS....1980s on....The Hornet...Mirage a Trois/ Shades/..........4 Corners..
National Treasure. I miss JIMMY H on bass. ....
Dane is good. Just not Jimmy.
Hate Bob Mintzer after Marcus Russo...😢😢😢.
@@rogerringold616I hear you. I lost interest when Mintzer took over. I do need to give those albums a chance though. He’s a great player. But Russo’s sax was so integral to their sound that it felt like such a pivot. The albums with Mintzer are supposed to be pretty great and I need to listen.
Sad to hear of Shaun's passing, this song hits my heart even more now. RIP and thank you for the beautiful music
Forever will you and your music be missed. Thank you. RIP man.

RIP Martin. I studied this for days, you’re a big inspiration to me till today. Thank you for everything you created. ❤🕊️
One of the best pieces of music I have ever heard
Music will never be the same ever again. The world lost a real legend. My heart is aching for a mentor and a teacher that I never even met. Lord, keep his soul safe in your arms.
What a lovely song. Tinted a little blue by Shaun Martins passing, but those opening chords still always make me smile. Rest in Peace, and thanks to the rest of the band for making this masterpiece come to life.
Robert Glasper for spiritually attuning yourself to the world followed by Shaun Martin for spiritual strength to find ways of making the world get along.
no way you gone !!! smh , one of my favs pianist !
I can't believe I thought I came up with the melody and chords they play here at the start.
I listened to it maybe a year ago and forgot about it, and I had this melody and chords randomly come up in my mind during an online class and immediately jumped to the piano to figure out what I just heard, thinking it's my creation. The mind is so weird. I actually remembered the chord progression and melody a year later. Unbelievable. A month later I open this video and my high hopes of having composed something cool immediately shatter lmao
The melody at the beginning was written by Pat Metheny it’s the song called “James”
@@prosperguitar are you sure about that? yeah, the beginning is similar to James but I can't really they are the same
@@gabrycast5395 It's like almost exactly the same, what do you mean
@@anthonychen5076 prosper says the beginning was written by pat metheny. it's not true
@@gabrycast5395 Listen to the song James... that opening melody is right there, 90% the same. Surely Martin knows this and did it as an homage.
It is sad to see so many people who inspire the world pass away so early.
Thank you for your wonderful music Shaun, RIP.
We are constantly thanking the world for his music and his life
I felt instant connection to this song after listening it 2 years ago for the first time. I'm deeply saddened by the news. Absolutely amazing musician...

This is such a beautiful song! I adore Snarky Puppy, but this stuff actually gives me the feels. Yes Shaun!
For a second I thought: "What the hell is Cory Henry doing on percussion?". Turns out to be mr. Moka!

The Funky Sheep i thought the same thing!! saw the beard and i was like!?!?! Cory??
