A whole vibe! Alcedrick Todd set it off with that blazing trumpet solo and the band proceeded to go HAM into the stratosphere!! This tune is special! Long live Shaun Martin!
Received my Cd of 7 Summers in the mail today. Popped it in on the way to the studio. Oh my Daaayyyummmm. Man. it's funny how you can think you know about someone by just listening to their music. But I been saying that Shaun is my man, every since I saw him playing on Skate You, and Thing of Gold with S. Puppy and his facial reactions when Corey Henry was soloing on Lingus. Shaun, man if you see this. Your composition skills may be your greatest strength. I knew you could play, but didn't know you were a beast composing too. Everybody that can play is not necessarily a beast when it comes to composition. Don't ever stop reaching my brother. As awesome as your cd is, I don't think you've done your greatest work yet. Lovvvved the cd. listening to it right now. Your words in the introduction were a blessing too. Amazing how we artist can just be damn insecure about our abilities sometimes. Man, I ain't never met you. But based on how you look and move when you play or even when someone else is playing. You feel the music, like myself at an almost molecular level. You're a heart guy when it comes to music my friend. Trust yours. Your Moms told you right. A time for everything. Brother, It's your time!!!! Peace and Blessings to you.
Statute of limitations never runs out... with that being said Shaun and Sput needs to be charged with killing that piano and Drums... 6 years later this cut is still fresh to me....
They are playing to track. Many takes to get what looks like a multi camera shoot. Heavy editing. Repeating imprvised solos for the camera is damn near impossible. You have no idea how movies are made, do you?
Can’t nobody, & I mean noBody tell me that this ain’t nofunkyazz joint, you hear all of the instruments, individually & in succession, Shun bringing it innnnnn on those keys 🎹
I loved how the drummer played a whole solo but the band didn't fade away like most bands do for the "drum solo!", he was on the spotlight because the drums were filling everything but the band was supporting with delicacy. wonderfully played
is that piano muted? How's he making sound like that? Sounds so good. Really, all these guys are dope. Trumpet, its not easy to win me over but that's when the spell was cast.
Wow this was a Shaun Martin Production. I honestly thought it was a Herbie and Freddie Hubbard composition. Big ups to Shaun for being a GENIUS on this one!
Man, Love Shaun Martins stuff. That brother look human, but he's not, he's from the same music planet that Corey Henry is from. Love that dudes music. Bout to buy it right now from band camp. And forget about Sput. Those cats ain't human man. They're just frontin like they are. Totally mind blowing! Lovvee this stuff man. You guys have a fan in me no doubt.
Shaun, Shaun, Shaun. we all love hearing your music, but we really want to also SEE you guys playing. Please hire a Video Director that's a musician and can appreciate that -- it's not about looking at your faces... hands baby!!! Yours, Sput's and everyone else. Just like how Michael League got better directors over the years (compare groundUp to We Like it Here) let's see how you guys MAKE this great music... we already know it SOUNDS GREAT!
+Ed Kurata Andy LaViolette directed this, and pretty much all the vids for Snarky, including both groundUp & We Like it here. Agree that they should have got more hand shots, but there may have been issues with camera angles/lighting or space that meant that wasn't possible on this record...
I hope y'all sell a billion records but it must be a reward of inestimable value to live inside bodies capable of creating this much beauty. I hope y'all wake up and just stare at your hands, bodies and minds in awe! A good reason to live through today and not kill ourselves is also because our bodies are faint echoes of y'alls - there's also the wonder at what you'll create next!
Everybody did an excellent job! That drummer, though...oh my goodness he was absolutely fantastic! Shaun was amazing on the keys as always, the horns were awesome, percussion great, bass player was awesome! The whole piece was tight as can be! Great job gentlemen! Absolute professionals! I listen to it over and over again and never get tired of it. And yes, I went ahead and purchased it, too-Lol!
Came here 6 years later only to find out I'm way behind...... Kudos to everyone but I could help but notice the drum.... He didn't just hit it with the sticks, he hit me with the vigour. No wonder the song started with his hot and seminal input. And so did all these other "crazy professionals". How in the world do they even get it.
This is the Baddest thing that I have heard in a long time. To me, this is like a new school Horace Silver band: whoa. Bad Trumpet Player, everyone else too.
These types of tracks show so much discipline and ability. Always appreciate and find it amazing how musicians tackle rhythm and difficult sections - especially live recorded. I hope they're using some ques or clicks in their monitors so I know they're mortal.
Shaun's composition and soaring solos are just making my heart soar to the heavens!!! Just beautiful and inspiring. Love the trumpet solo at the beginning the Latin influence with contemporary interpolated over it sublime joy nice tone also. In The Pocket this whole song all the percussion complexity perfectly fits this performance.
Some of the most enjoyable music I've heard in a long time. I don't know why I haven't heard of you before but I'm lovin' it! How do I find a tour list?
Great Job!!!! Though I have to agree with some of the other comments, I really wanted to see that Rhodes solo. Nevertheless, it was fabulous and I am hungry for more. Been a fan for a while from your work with Snarky Puppy. And "SPUT" is a MONSTER!!!!! I think he has a metronome brain implant, lol. Impeccable timing!!!
Shaun was one of the greatest, both through his musical talents and through being one of the kindest, most genuine, and caring people. We were, and still are, proud to call him a friend.
John, it can happen - special effect due to the speed, got a pic I took here: www.flickr.com/photos/no_words_no_sounds/28835075092/in/album-72157666960434189/
He could have had me playing those Rhodes and no one would have even known...... Oh well. lesson learned. Show video of everyone and list them in the description
Listen, Sput was doing some MINDBLOWING things on this track
Ugh the tone, the pocket.
I simply can't stop watching this vid because of Sput !!!
RIP . This song is a huge part of my life. We love you Shaun. You will never be forgotten
Thank you for your kidn words, rest in peace
A brilliant musician and human gone too soon. RIP Shaun Martin 😢
He is sorely missed. He was such an incredible person and musician and his contributions will forever be an inspiration
Jesus that drummer went godmode at the end
That drummer is a BAD DUDE!!!!! That trumpet player was putting it down as well.
A whole vibe! Alcedrick Todd set it off with that blazing trumpet solo and the band proceeded to go HAM into the stratosphere!! This tune is special! Long live Shaun Martin!
He was and remains a special musician. Long live Shaun!
RIP big man
Rest in peace Shaun
I just discovered Shaun Martin's music few days ago. Mind-blowing performance. Gone too soon RIP
Brother “Spud” Searight Is a MONSTER on the drums. He’s a stone cold BEAST!🙂🥁🎶🎵🎼👏🏾👏🏾
Requiescat in pace, Shaun...
We'll alway miss you.
Genius. Rest in Power, brother
Rest in power, he is sorely missed
The drummer though! 🔥🔥🔥

THis song is sooo lit! And the drummer? After the 4 minute mark he just shows his entire azz! WHEW!!!!!! LIT!!!
Statute of limitations never runs out... with that being said Shaun and Sput needs to be charged with killing that piano and Drums... 6 years later this cut is still fresh to me....
It's a crime not to film Shaun's hands during the piano solo
I was thinking the same. What was the camera person thinking????
Although the Rhodes solo was an overdub I think, so they didn’t film it I guess
@@martinkent_ He also had a piano solo and they didnt show his hands either.
Dude! WHAT was the film guy thinking?!

Drummer tore it up!!
bro had a seizure on the that track
I loved how the drummer played a whole solo but the band didn't fade away like most bands do for the "drum solo!", he was on the spotlight because the drums were filling everything but the band was supporting with delicacy. wonderfully played
Shaun is amazing in this arrangement. It's amazing to witness how much more skill he had tucked away.
is that piano muted? How's he making sound like that? Sounds so good. Really, all these guys are dope. Trumpet, its not easy to win me over but that's when the spell was cast.
7:28 my heart is pumping from mindlessly moving to this. Good shit
The Drummer is on 🔥 🧨🥁🎶🎼
Words can not explain.....f ing MESMERIZING!!!!!!!!!!!!

Omg! This Is So Beautiful ❤️ I have been Looking For Some Jazz That Would. Blow Me Away! Thank You Daughter For Making me Smile 🥰
Very niiiiiiiice! That Alcedreck is a monster player too! And Sput drivin' the engine killin' it. Splendid, just splendid.

+RichBarber Thanks for the response... as you can see, I AM a fan...

Sometimes I die without this song.

Not heard anything this good in years
A musically gifted group
Came here 6 years later only to find out I'm way behind...... Kudos to everyone but I could help but notice the drum.... He didn't just hit it with the sticks, he hit me with the vigour. No wonder the song started with his hot and seminal input. And so did all these other "crazy professionals". How in the world do they even get it.
I'm sorry....what?!?!?!? 😳
Jaw dropping....and so melodic! Thats nuts! Thank you!!!!
This is the Baddest thing that I have heard in a long time. To me, this is like a new school Horace Silver band: whoa. Bad Trumpet Player, everyone else too.

Great filming! Quality
How...HOW did the bass player keep his cool thru that drum solo? I would have been chopping my life away (and myself off of this gig lol).
Lol, heck yeah!
Because, that bass player is, a monster.

Love the trumpet solo at the beginning the Latin influence with contemporary interpolated over it sublime joy nice tone also. Wow. Old school guys with a twist! Excellent.
Some of the most enjoyable music I've heard in a long time. I don't know why I haven't heard of you before but I'm lovin' it! How do I find a tour list?
Beat and chord progressions remind me of Stevie Wonder's Don't You Worry bout A Thing. FANTASTIC.
My..oh MY....Coldness!!! DAMN... Awesome...just down right BAD!!! #96
This is the lick!!!! 💃🏽
What an Amazing song to start the day!!! Thank you for this!!
Woooow what a musical Journey they just took me too!!!! Just Amazing.

Love it!
this is really hot! you guys are amazing!
This is amazing music. Very classic!
sounds like an old hard bop track, in the vein of lee morgan. excellent composition!
That little chromatic section in Shaun's solo blew me away...
Wow what a tune especially when it goes into the Latin section, awesome!!!

Heard the news that Shaun has passed today (03.08.24) R.I.L. man! A beyond talented and humble musician, but such a nice dude too.
Shaun was one of the greatest, both through his musical talents and through being one of the kindest, most genuine, and caring people. We were, and still are, proud to call him a friend.
Holy shit! This is so good!!!
Amazing!!! very good players and wonderful Sing. Congratulation guys.

This is nice smooth jazz music.
Alcedric Todd killin' that trumpet solo!
Ok @shunwun9 - I heard that homage to, "UMI Says" song by Mos Def at 7:05 👍🏽🎶🎹🎵

Didn't know Will Smith could play the trumpet that good. Newfound respect for the man ♥
Sensacional!
Unbelievable rhythm ❤
Mind blowing. One of the tightest rhythm sections I've heard. On top of that, beautiful compositions and flawless mixes. Can't ask for much more!
.... That's GANGSTA.
Great stuff. Sput is a friggin monster holy moly
C est extra bravo les gars
R.I:P: Shaun Martin. He left too soon. He has isnpired me personally. GG
Rubber drumsticks @ 4:53
John, it can happen - special effect due to the speed, got a pic I took here: www.flickr.com/photos/no_words_no_sounds/28835075092/in/album-72157666960434189/
He could have had me playing those Rhodes and no one would have even known...... Oh well. lesson learned. Show video of everyone and list them in the description
I NEED this sheet music!
That is NOT Cory Henry on percussion.
+Big Boi ...that's Cory Henry's doppelganer!
Big Boi that's a guy named Francis. He plays for eryka badu
Maybe he is Cory Henri'es nephew...
That's Frank Moka on percussion
Almost certain that the rhodes were recorded by Shaun after this
bass sounds sweet!!! Nice tune to mellow out to.
+Luke Campbell Come on, Shaun can certainly play the solo with his feets while relaxing on the yamaha ;)
Sadly, the camera doesn't show that ;)
Its a studio record he can do what he wants
Luke Campbell
Pretty sure that could be possible lol
was thinking..did he play rhodes right hand 🤔
Very good my friends.
Drummer almost levitates on his sticks! I'm impressed.
