The White Whale. This will be a one of a kind build and replacement for the one that got away. Good luck.
Thank you! We are looking forward to getting started. Wish Kramer was here to help me too. Lol.
just bought myself this same van. and i absolutely am in love with it. so spacious.
Cool deal. Yes, they do have the room. Thanks for watching.
@@theswimshop4x4 thank you for responding! I recently found your channel and I love what you guys are doing. I enjoy watching what you guys do to these vans. It's inspiring.
Numbers are going up!! Great work.
Thank You! We are amazed. Thanks for watching and commenting.
John was a cool dude. What a find.
John and his wife were awesome!
If you want great space look for an early chinook 18 plus they are the only collectors class b motor home, I’m doing a 71 would love to 4x4 it can’t wait to see what you do with this, glad I found you guy’s
Chinooks are awesome!!
I will definitely be ordering one of y'all's kit soon
Shoot us an email and we will hook you up. Thanks for watching!
Awesome channel, these videos will be a big help when I convert my van! Thanks for the info.
Thanks Tim. We like to hear that the info is helpful. Thanks for the comment and be sure to subscribe if you haven't!
This is gonna be great. I can't wait to watch the progress. I have a 1990 GMC camper van and absolutely love it.
Yes! I am ready to get started. Just gonna be a little while before we can start.
John seems like a great dude.... Consider a hard hi-top over a pop-up, you'll get tired of lifting it up and putting it back down, you'll get a lot more permanent storage and you'll avoid all the headaches pop-ups are notorious for....
John was cool. Yeah, I am still up in the air on which way to go. I have a little time to decide. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Love what yall are doin. Keep it up guys!!!!
Thank you! Thanks for watching and commenting.
Greats video guys keep up the great content!!!!
Thanks! We got a lot planned!
John you want to see your ole van transform come along for the ride with the rest of us after SWIM SHOP give it the love it will be a real sport van
If it all comes together it will be a good one. Thanks for watching!
Nice van guys 👍 look forward to seeing what you do with it
Thank you. We can't wait to get started on it. Just got a few more in front of it. Thanks for watching.
Looking forward to it. I recently picked up an '82 G20 125" wheelbase. I know I would like the room of a 145" but I like the exterior look of the 125" the most for that boogievan aesthetic. I really don't know what I'm gonna do yet. But it's my first van so I'll play around with it for a while and figure out what I really need.
That's awesome! I agree, I like the look of the 125" too. But age has made me go for the room. You are really gonna enjoy the van and you will meet some of the best people you could imagine. Thanks for the comment and watching.
Really cool!
Thank you. Thanks for watching.
It's interesting that the sources for the best long vans are church vans and non-profits that used them for handicap transportation. That I-85 between Charlotte and Greenville is a mess. Can't wait to see what you do with this one.
Thanks Phil!!
I can wait to see how it comes out. I picked up a 93 g20 and getting it ready to use it as a daily. When I get to that point I might message you guys and stop by the shop. I'm about a 30 min drive away.
Be sure to do that. Thanks for watching and commenting!
One like this one but front passenger and driver windows and windows for the back door, and a sliding door oh and mirrors from a 1976 chevy van and if possibly a steering wheel from a 1976 chevy van
Thanks for watching.
Definitely go with the 6.0.
I think you are right!
Mercy, you came right by my place. I live just off of exit 11 in SC. I would have been most grateful to have meant you and buy you supper. Maybe next time. I’m one of your biggest fans. Will you have merchandise with your old artwork?
Oh man! Hate we didn't know. But honestly we were in such a hurry we would not have been able to spend much time. Definitely next time. And, yes Seth said we will have some of the old artwork. Thanks again we really appreciate the support.
I’d love to have one of those raised roofs
It makes a big difference when camping.
@@theswimshop4x4 I love the look, it gives any van character
How about naming it George or Weezie, from the old Jeffersons TV show. Since you're gonna be "moving on up" by lifting it and putting a raised roof.
Haha! That's a thought. Thanks for the suggestion.
Hi
Why don't you build your own high top for the . 1/4" Marine plywood and cut down 2x4's to match the angles in the corners and 2x2's everywhere else . The hard part is to have well rounded edges to be able cover it with fiberglass . Check this video out , their tops are stupid expensive but the video shows you how to do this . To make a flange for the bottom edge of the top I follow boat rebuild RUclips channel and he just made flanges to have a flat surface to glue 2 parts together with a 2x4 he covered one side of the 2x4 with this stuff so the fiberglass wouldn't stick layed up a couple layers a cloth . When dry peel it off trim it up . Now you have a flange like the top in the video has has . Lay the flange's out around the roof cut out hole set the top on center it , now fiberglass the top to the flange's . When dry you can pull the top off sand all paint , the bolt it on like in the video . ruclips.net/video/mQVwXF1HDE4/видео.html
I don't want to build it out of wood. I think we have it figured out, just got to find the time. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Fiberine out of California makes hightops for that van. They are pricey though.
Thanks for the info. And thanks for watching.
I just got a 86 G30 ambulance (high cube) it seems in really good shape and low miles. I'm in WNC actually (Clyde) do you have any recs for shops or parts places for that area?
Send us an email and we will get back to you. Thanks for watching.
Just a heads up man I got the same exact van except with the sliding door.
Same exact seats. I think yours is a little bit longer than mine though.
8 lug 454 big block with the TH 400.
Really happy for you . This van has a 8 or 9 bolt rear in it. How much do charge to get it converted to four-wheel drive ?
Really happy you found it.
Recommend leaving the running boards on it because it'll help protect your rockers from kicking rocks mud and dirt
Awesome! The van I was talking about had a 454 too. Not to many were made with the big block. You got a good start, already has the right rear end. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@theswimshop4x4 I finally got it running really good last week. It has lots of torque. It will break the tires no trouble. It took a little bit to get the throttle body working with the throttle position sensor I put a new summit distributor in it and power timed it.
After I got a running good I mashed it to the floor a couple times and I think just takes off like a rocket. The bad part is I blew out an exhaust manifold gasket .
Much room to be able to work on it It probably best to pull the whole motor You can drill out the broken exhaust manifold bolts.
Slider door vans are not good candidates for 4 wheel conversions. The door will make contact with wider tires when it's opened
@@richardcarter3406 I personally agree. And they also make it tougher to mount shelves and things on for camping.
@@matthewames3864 They have the torque!!
hey guys. i am from germany and thinking about to purchase a chevy van with a 6.5 detroit in it. what do you think of that engine? by th way that cummins of yours just sounds sweet!
That's cool. Don't know alot about them. I do know a few people that have had them and they seemed to think they were ok. I know they are no comparison to the modern diesels. Yeah tough to beat a Cummins. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@theswimshop4x4 thank you. 🤘
I JUST BOUGHT A 91 G30 15 PASSENGER VAN WITH 113,000 ALL ORIGINAL PAPERWORK MANY FACTORY ADD ONS LOOKING TO MAKE IT 4X4
That's awesome! You will like the extra room of that extended van. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Really would like to know the cost of your conversions$$$$ 12:19 12:21
