    Carburetor is the way to go…. I own a 1982 G-10 carbureted with a 305…… 362,000 miles with a standard trans three on the tree…. Manual fuel pump…… I’ve owned it for 34 years and never left me stranded, my 92G G-20. Had it towed three times in two months…. Automatic transmission went out , electric fuel pump went out, electronic ignition, went out….

      205s are the king of strong! But nothing wrong with the 208s. I wish the Chevrolet versions had a fixed yoke. I put a turbo 400 input in a Dodge 208 in my mud racer because they have fixed yoke. But as long as you're not rock crawling and taking a chance of busting the case, 208s are plenty strong and have a lower low range. Thanks for watching and commenting.

  • @nickploszay2310
    @nickploszay2310 Год назад +1

    In my 92 g20 I lovingly call big nasty,I ripped out the carpet and truck bed lined it. I use him as my Swiss army knife vehicle,it's my tow rig ,my rock hauling rig, my camping rig. I have a colman queen sized cott with a air mattress for when I want to sleep in style. And if I get it to muddy carrying rocks I jack up the front and hose him out. Are you guy's going to start selling a kit for the front leafsprings and transmission crossmember. There is a company in Colorado that has a kit but it's out of my price range at I think last time I looked it was 3500 bucks. If not no worries I was just wondering. I personally would keep the tbi it's pretty bullet proof but they sell a rebuild kit for like 35 bucks that gives you all the gaskets and o rings,and the little screens that go on the injectors. When I did my 87 with the 305 the screens were full of rust but it had been sitting for ten years but it still ran great. My 86 with the 305 had a carbrator and it ran like a turd and I had to clean the carb once a month. Can't wait to see what else you guys are doing.

    • @theswimshop4x4
      @theswimshop4x4  Год назад

      Awesome! That's cool that your van has so many uses. You are right about tbi, it is bulletproof. I'm just old school. 1986 was probably the worst year for carburetors, with the computer controlled distributor and carburetor.Whenever we get one of those years, fist thing we do is change the distributor and carburetor.

    Hi just came across your video and I have the 87 g20 van and the engine sucks big time. It stalls out, has a hesitation in it, and you had mentioned taking yours from fuel injection to carburetor, and I was wondering what the process is and the cost. Also, I need the ball joints on the front end done. Other than that the van, minus a few window leaks, does pretty good.
    I don't want to do a lot to the inside until I figure out the engine and front end.

    You are a hero! What company did you get the steering components from sir? I’min the procurement process for my G30’s solid front axle install. I live in the sticks and have traveled the world quite literally and my current drive to work has got to be the most adverse and dangerous drive I’ve ever done during inclement weather. The van handles beyond amazing, especially compared to the 4X4 jeeps and trucks I drove previously for snow and ice. I’ll be running a 2WD with solid front axle, small lift and 33’ tires depending. I have the axle install kit sourced from boulder off road vans but was a bit hazy on steering.

    G20 is a 3/4 ton van. G30 is 1 ton.

      You are wrong! G20 is not even 3/4 ton. The only real difference in a G10 and G20 is the brakes. If you would have watched the video, you would see we took a G20 and put 1ton 4x4 running gear under it. Thanks for not watching.
