I remember my mother driving home with one of these, didn’t realize it didn’t fit into the garage until it was too late. It was repaired about the same time the garage door and frame were fixed. Sold it a month later when she once again forgot it didn’t fit
Thanks for that 😂

Ure moms a dope, I hope ure dad practiced his backhand bit.
It’s like a mullet hair cut. All serious up front and the party’s at the back!
Your video inspired me to seek out my mom's Dodge Ram van. Turns out, her boyfriend (she died 14 years ago) held onto the van for me to get when I was old enough! I didn't know this, like we had discussed it but I didn't think he was really going to keep it and give it to me, but I reached out to him and he's like yeah, come get it! She's in really rough shape but I plan on getting her running and sorted out after the years of neglect. Lots of memories in that van. I bet one of my Disney movies is still in the VCR.
Damn thats crazy he kept it for you
How’s it going with the van?
@@NewBeginning509 It was moved from the storage yard and he started working on it but I haven't heard from him in a while. It's probably going to be slow going
@@loganrossignolkeep us updated! I love hearing about the memories these vans bring. 😎👍
@@loganrossignol this might be unwarranted, but don't wait on the ol' ex to get her up and running for you. He's a stand up guy for having held it that long for you, and the rest of the revival falls on your shoulders, regardless of what he may have offered.
As a lover of vans from the 80's and 90's. I gotta say, this van is awesome! I absolutely agree with you that it is indeed a shame that they don't make these anymore.
OK so I never really wondered what Magnum PI's kids would look like but here we are with the answer to that unasked question

they came with mood lighting so....they knew their customers lol

Sells Rolls Royce, but no worries, the new conversion van has an even better star headliner!
Did he show a star headliner?
Probably alot more reliable than a RR. Much easier to get parts and maintenance/ repair service for a chevy 350 and its transmission, other stuff.
@@nathanlewis5682 Both cars will be equally reliable if they are equally maintained, one will just cost more, Rolls Royces are very reliable tbh
@@Michael.Talbot from watching hoovies garage and the car wizard I got the impression that new RR is certainly better than older RR, but still a pain in the buttocks and the bank account to keep running. I tend to go older Cadillac and Lincoln to ride in high roller style
@@nathanlewis5682 I get that but Hoovie constantly buys the cheapest example in the country and if you constantly buy the cheapest example you will constantly have the most problems no matter which car it is or which manufacturer built it

@Stimpy&Ren I made my own conversion van with a bed in the back. Rear seat heating, etc. When I went to parties and got drunk, just go to bed. I'd go camping with friends and while they were screwing around with tent poles and pegs I'd slide open the side door, pull out the lawn chair and table, DONE lol.

I too found a 2000 E150 conversion van with 65,000 miles and became the 3rd owner. My Dad had a few as well growing up and I always enjoyed the ride and being able to take a nap while traveling. Thumbs up on your purchase Brother, enjoy.
Way back in 1992, when I was 15, my mum, over here in the UK, and my Aunt and Uncle, in Canada, decided, to go for broke and have a once in a lifetime family holiday, where we would basically spend the entire summer touring the USA. The vehicle my Uncle chose for this amazing trip was a 1985 Dodge Ram 250, with a long wheelbase Starcraft conversion. I remember being met by my Uncle at Toronto Airport in this behemoth, and seeing inside for the first time, I thought it was incredible. Very similar inside to Tyler's, but in dark blue velour. We spent the following 8 weeks going from Ontario, across the border into New York State, then across the country, down the west coast to California, across to Texas, then up the middle back to Canada. It was an incredible trip, through an amazing country, made all the more memorable by being in this unbelievably comfortable vehicle, which we ended up covering 10,800 miles in. Two things that always stick in my mind were, driving this beast through San Francisco and even with it's big V8, the thing really struggling to haul it's 3.5 ton bulk up those streets. The other thing, was being left alone in our motel one night, whilst in New Orleans, I realized my Uncle had left the van keys in the room. So being a stupid, car crazy teenager, and a sucker for the sound of that engine, I decided, in my wisdom, to take the van around the car park. I spent the next 10 mins flooring it, from one side to the other, having great fun. The thing then stalled on me and refused to restart, so I began to shit myself, as if I'd been caught by my elders, I dread to think what they'd have done to me. Thankfully it did eventually start and I put it back. It was only later I realized what an incredibly stupid thing it was to do, with such a large vehicle in a tight space, plus with very little driving experience, I'm lucky I didn't hit any one or any thing! I would love to know if that van still exists. I remember my uncle got it at a really good price, and I think he even managed to make a profit on it, after putting all those extra miles on it. Anyway, sorry for the rambling story, but, for anyone who's still reading, as you can imagine, seeing Hoovies new acquisition really stirred up some memories. I actually have a photo of ours, parked outside my Aunt and Uncles house, in front of me now. I wish I could share it with you here.
Sadly my Aunt Jay is no longer with us, having succumbed to breast cancer, all the way back in 2001. She was a lovely person, and I still miss her. It makes memories like that trip even more precious.
Hi Mathew,
Your story resonated with me and inspired me to share a similar experience....
I live in South Africa and after studying civil engineering at the University of Cape Town (UCT) I embarked on a two year road trip adventure in the States in ‘94-‘95 with my best friend who had just completed his BCom degree.
We bought an ‘81 GMC Vandura 2500 custom van fitted with the Chevy 350 and 3 speed auto transmission. We bought it in Ft Lauderdale and paid $1200 for it. It was solid and rust free but obviously a bit rough and well worn around the edges. It came complete with velour captains chairs with fold down armrests, a rear bench seat which folded down into a very comfortable bed, mood strip lighting and small directional spotlights at the rear which all miraculously still worked and were controlled by this hilarious big roof mounted console above the rear view mirror. The switches were big oversized orange units which illuminated when depressed. It also had a front AC and a separate rear AC unit which predictably did not work. The walls were lined with blue shag carpeting which was OK and the big smoked glass side windows were fitted with curtains which were faded, but after being washed were OK. The shag carpet on the floor was shot and rather dodgy looking so we went to a carpet store and bought an off-cut of heavy duty office type loop pile blue carpeting for $10 and recarpeted the floor ourselves in a rather crude fashion. It made the interior look a whole lot better and because we simply laid the thick new carpet over the old, it had the added benefit of acting like an extra layer of soundproofing - believe it or not it made it a lot quieter inside at highway speeds.
It was mechanically sound apart from a power steering pump that whined and wheezed when you turned the wheel and provided zero assistance and a noisy valve lifter. I bought a new PS pump at Walmart for $30, PS fluid, Mobil One full synthetic engine oil, 8 spark plugs, engine coolant, a new thermostat and an oil, air and fuel filter. Total cost for these spares and fluids was around $80 if I recall correctly.
The chap at Walmart was kind enough to set the plug gaps for me after consulting his service books. He also advised me on the correct ratio of water/coolant for the radiator. Borrowing some tools from one of the many awesome local friends we had made I replaced the PS pump, which was easy, replaced the PS fluid and then did the rest of the service items including disconnecting the bottom radiator hose and flushing out the radiator and engine by inserting a garden hose into the filling cap. I was amazed at the muck that came out of the radiator and engine whilst flushing it clean. When I drained the engine oil it was like thick black treacle so who knows when last if had been changed. The auto choke would sometimes get stuck and she would fast idle so I removed the air cleaner and sprayed the throttle linkages on the outside of the carb with a can of lubricating spray.
After all my work was done which took an afternoon I climbed into the plush -but rather worn -velour captains chair, inserted the square (GM) ignition key and she fired up immediately.
With my hand gently on the wheel I turned it and Voila I had beautiful smooth, quiet power assisted steering again.
The engine sounded notably quieter and smoother although I could still hear the lifter but not as loudly as before.
After 500 miles of driving the lifter sound disappeared completely and she idled softly like a kitten.
Over a two year period we drove our van over 80 000 miles around the beautiful USA, from the very hot desert regions in the SW through freezing snow filled winter weather in Colorado and Kansas and it never let us down - once! What a legend of a vehicle it was!
We ended our trip in Austin Texas where I lived for a few months - fabulous city.
Just before heading home I sold our faithful van for $2000 to two young guys who believed they were getting the deal of deal of the century. I remember watching them high-five each other as they walked up to old faithful…not gonna lie it was rather emotional for me watching them “drive off into the sunset” with our beloved GMC. she served us well and i made an $800 dollar profit after those 80 000 trouble free miles. They don't make 'em like they used to.
America, her wonderful people, and her good old Detroit autos will always have a very special place in my heart.
Take care and God bless
Cool story, thanks cuz!

“HOA Karens” 😂 Seriously, I would love a segment interviewing his neighbors and asking them what they think Tyler does for a living. I bet the answers are priceless and very creative.
@deadend Exactly. Drug dealer would be the modal response, I guess.
True Karens are nosey detectives. They all know what he does for a living, but want to dig their controlling claws into his personal projects. We can't allow people to do what they want on their own property! That might contradict the contrived vision for this neighborhood.
@Greger Holmes Tyler is some kind of promotions director person for Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakhouses. He opens and promotes new stores, and does who knows what else. He's mentioned more than once that his Jeep Gladiator is owned by the company. The internet says he quit Freddy's to focus on youtube and a TV show in 2017, which he did for a year and change, but he came back at some point. Going by remarks he's made in his videos, it sounds like the RUclips side hussle is now making him enough money to cover a decent amount of his car habit.
Ryan Klapperich according to Social Blade this channel makes nearly $300k per year....I’d say that covers a bit more than a decent amount of his car buying lol
I heard in a video he used to sell cars in the past. But now he owns a few restaurants.
The ladder is for sitting on top when you’re in the infield at the Indy 500...because that’s these vans were perfect for. Also perfect for getting the clap...don’t ask.

I didn't know i needed one of these until I watched this. I love it. I moved to the US a few years ago. Perfect vehicle to explore this country.
When I was a kid, my brother's friend's mom used to have one of the vans that was maroon. I remember riding home from the mall in it and watching Sabrina the Teenage Witch on ABC's TGIF. The TV had an antenna and we could barley see anything because it got terrible reception. But it was so cool being able to watch TV while we were driving. I mean sure, watching a video in a vehicle wasn't that big of a deal, even then, but watching a new episode of the same live show that I would've been watching if I was home that night, was pretty cool.

You've made me literally cry in a good way. Memories of my mom and our travels from Greyhounds to a 75 Chevy Cargo Van, completely homemade/tricked out by my mom and stepdad for summer travels because we were poor and then in 84 we had a Ford Conversion for more fun memories. Thanks so much for appreciating these beautiful vans. If you can believe it, my mom gave a neighbor our 84 Ford van for 500 bucks, in pristine condition. I wish I could find one I could afford to travel around the US but am disabled and can't afford them now. Maybe I could do a crowdfund and some pan-handling and save up for one with what they cost these days I'll be dead by the time I get it. I'm buying a lottery ticket tonight now, fingers crossed. THANKS HOOVIES GARAGE.
How do you got disable ?
As soon as he mentioned achy brachey heart I just imagine Hoovie singing it. I was not disappointed when hoovie delivered at the end haha
My friend's parents bought Steph Carse's house and he left thousand of dollar worth of appliance as a gift when they moved in. It sits on a slope, so theres a sliding door in the basement. It was such a cool feature as a kid
This brings back so many memories. My dad used to own 4 of these around 15 years ago. We used to live in Saudi arabia back then used to make round trips of 2000 kms from riyadh to makkah. It used to be so big and comfy. I am definitely going to purchase one of these again. And yeah my dad's the coolest 🤙
My grandpa had an ‘86 chevy g20 w/ a 350 just like this when I was a kid, but black with that same gray graphic. I loved it, it towed his 26’ boat like nothing, captains chairs were comfy as s**t, and rode like a caddy unloaded. I also drove my bosses 80s GMC van as a teenager delivering furniture. His was a load w/ a dog of a 305, but it was still a blast to drive around, cranking 80s rock out of the blown out 30 y/o stock speakers lol. Good times.

It still is. I bet your car doesn't have that. Mine doesn't!

my siblings and I definitely wore out a couple tapes during annual pilgrimages from upstate NY to Myrtle Beach, towing a camper. But traveling long distances was the ONLY time we were allowed to use the TV, unlike kids today that have something on displays in the back while riding with mom running errands.
We also had a second stereo in the back (only wired to headphone jacks) so we didn't have to listen to mom and dad's music on those trips, ironically we now listen to the music we hated back then..
My co-worker got rid of one those when he son got his driver's license. He said he was not ready to be a grandfather.
Hahahaha
I wasn't allowed to drive our van when I started driving for that same reason. Dammit.
Yes 3/4 ton Ford conversation van I bought to drag the family around in. My kids best memories are camping in this van. They were the best and max comfort. 4 captain chairs and a couch that converts to a bed. The lighting was nice and could be on even if I drove at night. Wonderful driving in a captain’s chair is amazing
I had a friend that installed thick SHAG carpeting, Small a/c units, bug screens for the rear windows, fish-eye windows, and roof top wind powered turbine exhaust fans(which really worked well to keep it comfortable inside with a breeze). He started a business out of his home and became wealthy & opened his own shop! The van culture and CB radio's was so cool in its time. And Hoovie is right ; if you owned a good looking van, it truly was a Love machine...not creepy at all! It was about FUN, FRIENDS, AND ROAD TRIPS!!!!!

My Aunt went through at least 2 if not three of the real conversion vans. (large family) These days she has an Escalade and a Sprinter based camper.
What happened to Conversion vans were they were still EXPENSIVE for most people and minivans came along and were cheap. (and they still do tend to be much better equipped for the price than other vehicles - and tend to have big engines too)
I live in Belgium and a buddy of mine has one of these, a giant V8 tank with blue leather interior and a flip down flatscreen TV in the back.
The ride was like nothing I've ever been in... comfy, torqy, quiet, the list goes on... his is worth about 30k euro's tho, they're really expensive over here and insurance/taxes are out of this world for something like this
Taxes shouldn't be all too expensive if it's before 1992 or you can register it as a camper. Insurance is quite ridiculous if you have any kind of horsepower but should still be manageable if you're an experienced driver with a clean accident record. The fuel consumption is a killer though, even with an LPG conversion, and forget about parking it pretty much anywhere you actually want to drive to.
Taxes in belgium is nothing compared to taxes in the Netherlands.

Lived seeing this video. Great memories. Grew up with a 1984 Ford hi-top with a sunset paint scheme. I loved that thing. Most comfortable vehicle ever. Named it the Mystery Machine. Dad was going to sell it until I cried. He owned it for another 20 years after that.
We had a Ford Econoline custom van, which was the better van over that Chevy, but it had a removable table in the back with an actual chess/checker board on it. You could flip it over and just use it for lunch with cupholders. Captains chairs that turned around meant we could beat each other up on long trips. It actually had curtains AND blinds. Like literally the same type of aluminum blinds you probably have in your house, but black. When we jumped it off of things the blinds would rattle lol. There was a small window with screen that opened on each window as well. And of course a rooftop vent that opened up. Behind the last bench row/bed was a fully customized storage rack with compartments for tools, etc. It also had twin fuel tanks with a switch to flip between them. I have never seen this kind of awesome-ness since.

Thanks for telling your story buddy, I'm sure you will be able to make that dream come true for your parents. That would be such an awesome retirement gift in a few years
...that reminds me of W.C. Fields' reply to the question, "...how do you like your children?...:"...his reply, "...well done..."
@@mannyg1578 TYLER is the Best!!! I've taken all his advice and starting buying Hooptiezz too! I just uploaded
a new video with similar content. PLZ watch/subscribe and gimme me some feedback/love ! Thank you !
Kurt Winters I subbed with notifications. Love the content dude
My grandfather was big into the conversion vans when I was younger. Just like many I have tons of memories of them. Time to break out the JC Whitney catalog
Last year I traded a rusted out Silverado for a 1992 G20 that had 80,000 miles on it. It runs great, inside was in great condition, but I tore everything out of it, and converted it into a home on wheels! Now I have a great vehicle that I can call home, and it takes me wherever I feel like going!
These were a thing here in Sweden in the 90s. Mostly old men with jeans. My math teacher had one.
Me too😂😂🤘🏼
My English teacher has one. He's badass
@@zthreetwo9874 does it say free candy on the side?
Then it's a perfect match for Tyler - he looks like a retired golfer.
Literally my dad had one, fully customized from the ground up with full leather and wood interior with three Yes! 3 TVs
@Mark Morrissey Yup, dark blue with blue interior, the absolute 90s combo and the problem is the old 350 small block it only made a little over 200hp and needed some serious performance modifications
@@AY-xd9rk Strange specifications for a dad, but OK
Mark Morrissey LITERALLY
If I had that van I would fitnit with an inverter and a pigtail so you can plug it into an A/C socket, like at a campground, so you can use all the accessories insode without wasting gas with it running, I would also remove that console so it's easier to move from the front to the rear of the van, so your wife can tend to the kids, I would also look into making the front seats swivel like those middle seats and I would probably put a different fridge in there if the rear seat can't lay down with that one in it. Dope van, my parents had a low top 1996 Dodge 2500 Primetime conversion with the 360 Magnum and a 3.90 axle. It was a beast. That isn't a VCR in there, it doesn't record, it's a VCP.
My dad had a 79 Chevy van with 4 captains chairs with center removable tables and the rear seat was a bench but turned into a queen bed. One of the best cars my dad ever had
0:40... wait, wait, wait... is Tyler's dad really Tom Selleck... whattttt 😂
LOL
Didn’t you know ? 😉
IKR, I thought that first picture was a stock car commercial from the internet and not a family photo. Tyler's mom was pretty hot, but when your Dad is Tom Selleck what would you expect. LOL!!!!
@@MrTimdtoolman1 It's not even a corvette D:
Illegitimate son i’m guessing
Chevys from the late 80's early 90's is amazing. My buddy has a mid 90's Chevy suburban and I sat in those seats and I was genuinely impressed as to how comfortable it is.
Ah yea, my 80's childhood! Great times, great memories. Wish I would have appreciated those times back then.
"My mom had a red 1985 Chevrolet corvette...."
*Shows picture of a red Ferrari*
@Otis Cat I figured as much. I just found it silly you used the picture when you were talking about a red corvette.
That’s what I said! Lol
@Rusty Climber well just make sure you ragdoll it out... last thing you wanna do is tense up..
The 2nd worst Corvette of all time next to the ‘84.
@Rusty Climber A hit of what? (Answer better correspond with my name or ima be steamin)
I've never seen you so emotional hoovie, you REALLY were reliving your childhood in your description, I can see you had great times as a kid 🥰🥰🥰
I dunno... I was taught to "never trust a man in a van."
Unless, of course, we are talking a crack commando unit that was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit.
“Slow clap”
Dun dudu dun dun dun dun😂
I love it when a plan comes together.
I have a problem and no one else can help me... are they for hire?
They shoot worse than stormtroopers, though.
This is awesome, i'm currently restoring my grandpa's 1994 G-20 conversion. It only has 42,XXX miles and the interior is immaculate! Excited to update it.
How's it holding up mechanically?
About the only thing you can't experience through you tube, was how comfy the seats are, everyone of the seats, awww... so nice!
Those actually aren’t LEDS, those are single small incandescent bulbs.
How fast to drain the battery? Like 5 mins?
Might have been upgraded to LED
I had a VW golf from the 1983 and had a LEDs on the dash just for comparison
@@altergreenhorn - that's fine, but OP is right. Those are small incandescent bulbs. You can tell by the color and the intensity. Source - i own this van's clone, and have been looking to convert to led's.
It's honestly not really worth it unless you already have everything apart, for those interested.
I figured it was that or neon bulbs. But you could swap 'em out pretty easily I'm sure!
edit: Ooops missed the comment above, maybe it's a lot of work to get to. But yeah white LEDs were not practical at the time. Red or green, sure.
We had one similar to this when I was in high school in the late 80's. Loved it! Was great for country road trips with friends...small midwest town living...
My dad bought the first one in Ontario Canada in 1979. Quality Van brand. GMC. Never forget it.
My dad used to have one of these when I was a kid. He just passed a few months ago.. Thanks for the memories Tyler!
Strange, I cried when Achy Breaky heart came on as well. Different reasons though.
Was it at the end, when your ears started bleeding?
I've always Loved Weird Al's version of that song. It sums up how I feel about it. 🤮
F
Its because your ears were bleeding
0:40 Hoovie, you never mentioned your father was Tom Selleck!
Lol
I was just gonna say that!
Snaps! We rewound to check
Solid nostalgic purchase. My GF's parents back then had one of these monsters. It was like riding in a living room.
My pops had an 85 Chevy van with conversation. Lots of good memories.
When my dad retired from the army and moved us to missourah in 93, his first job was working for a conversion van company in Nixa, MO. I don't remember their name, but I remember how my 14 year old self thought how cool it was when I saw one of their vans driving down the road, knowing my dad did the the electrics in it.
My grandpa has one but the dodge version. He's had it for over 30 years and still running
...question us, Ramon, just how many of your hermanos y primas were conceived in that thing..." if it's rocking, don't come knockin'"...comes to mind...
I got one also. 89 B250
actually very nice. I own a 89 b250
My best friend and roommate in college had one of these. It was given to him by his parents, who would drive us around the country to wrestling tournaments in it. So many great memories in that van. Would love to pick one up.
I have a 1985 G20 with only 53k original mile, it's mint. It was my dad's and left it to me after his passing last year.
I love it.
Thank you so much for reviving memories of cross Canada and USA trips as a teen. That van got us from The Rockies to Niagra Falls to Mt Rushmore and the Badlands of South Dakota and everywhere in between. All journies began and ended in Winnipeg.
It was white with blue custom graphics, and the inside was so well kitted out and luxurious it was ridiculous.
I love nostalgia, and your van provides it by the ton.
My aunt and uncle had one of these and I have so many memories hooking up the Sega Genesis and playing the crap out of Zombies Ate My Neighbors and NBA Jam.
My dad had one and we loved it! Used for family trips, towing the boat, everything.
Ah man.... memories. My grandfather had a black and silver Dodge all decked out with card tables, sink, fridge, TV, VCR... sat on a set of chrome spoke rims with wide rubber and had a chromed out 360 with oversized cam, headers and dual exhaust. Living in New Orleans it was awesome for parade season.
In 3rd grade (1997-98) my friend had a birthday party and we rode in her parent’s conversation van and I thought the fact that we were able to watch a VHS movie on the way to the restaurant. It was just sooo cool and they even had a PlayStation hooked up to the TV!!! Haha, great memories
The HOA Karen’s were giving him the evil eye ! LMFAO 🤣 !!!!
They really should bring this van back to life .
People are living in vans now .
I had one in 1981, it was a short box it was awesome I had a stained glass window with two sea gulls put in the sliding door & an extra gas tank. I love that vehicle.
All that wood, the “Cracker Barrel Performance Option”.
Just missing the antiques hanging from the roof
Hell yeah I love these vans. My family rented one for a road trip one year and my twelve year old self thought it was the coolest thing ever.
Makes me miss my parent's conversion van.
I grew up with the white conversion. That thing was AWESOME! It was reliable as a hammer. It never broke down at all. Super comfy seats etc. It needs an LS
Grew up in one myself. Was like getting driven in a limo everywhere ours had a table in the back you could eat on with cupholders.
Ours too. 👍🏻😂
This is, no doubt, my favorite of all your hooptie purchases!!! My family had nearly an identical one in the mid 90’s, and it was........AWESOME!!!
My Dad owned a Conversion Van company located in Pinellas County Florida. Craig's Custom Auto, he was in business from the late 70s to 88. I can tell you everything inside waa hand made, Mark III kicked off the cheap prefab interiors which cemented the demand for my father's vans. 80s was awesome!!
My first car was a Chevy G20 conversion. Mine was a short wheelbase with the 4.3l V6.
I got it because I was into model aircraft at the time, and it is was close to me and inexpensive. It was done by Mark III, and had a lovely satin white DuPont Imron finish. My 5'10" self could stand upright in it, it was like a big scary, tippy, comfy couch.
