I do appreciate how the Vanduul literally name their S1 weapons "WEAK". They may be a terrifying alien menace, but at least they have a sense of humor.

@JoDoFe. Maybe when there are epic ground battles, putting all powers to the WEAK repeaters will make sense; then again they are not only changing the ship's model, but also it's flight characteristics to be on par with Anvil's equivalent *cough* *cough* F8 Lightning *cough* *cough*
2:05 damaging weak guns to make strong guns more powerful: you can just turn off the power to the weak guns in your power MFD and it will add more shots to the capacitor of your strong guns.

I remember picking the Glaive in older versions in around 2016-2017 of the game when the PU was still very underdeveloped. It was a capable ship back then and the extended "blades" were, at least back then, very capable of ramming and seriously damaging or destroying hostile ships while you only took a fraction of the damage.
Glad to know the ship is still sort of capable and nice trick with the self-damage, I'll try it out once I fly the ship again.
For a lot of ships, the pilot seems to be the determining factor :)
I love the Scythe, so I can't wait until I can pledge for a Glaive!

Have really enjoyed the Glaive for random space rescue beacons; as it handles the variety up to 'High level' pretty well.

I bought all the alien ships and added them to my collection last year the rework of the glaive is gonna be awesome when it comes out as it’s a symmetrical version of the Scythe with the new aesthetics😊

Funny thing about the Glaive I've noticed: The survivability in it is quite high. Yes, it can be easily crippled by blowing off the wings, but then your opponent is left with what is basically a pilot-seat strapped to a rocket-engine to hit. Just burn your thrusters and barrel-roll out of there like a coked-up mini-herald, it's practically impossible to hit :D
I just picked this up and I love it! I find it to be pretty maneuverable and fast. I do wish the size 1's were size 2's but i guess they have to be balanced.

@@michaelcacace1414 because combat is getting slowed down. Less jousting, more fighting. Being that this thing has two huge s5's on it and it's far more nimble than anything else with that size of weapon, it's safe to say it's going to wreck.
@@durtyred86 I don't know, a Vanguard does the same DPS and has superior armor and shielding to boot; and then you have the 600i which comes with three size 5 plasma accelerators, triple the ammo, and two size three shields. Both the vanguard and 600i come with a vastly superior number of missiles too.
@@sebastiancoar1991 well.....I never said the Glaive would be the ONLY ship that gets better with the combat change lol. And I never took away from the ships you named either. I'm simply saying the Glaive will be in a better place my man.
Could be interesting, although she's not as nippy in a dogfight as some others
I own the lovely Glaive, but I never fly it because the starmap is bugged and you have to manually search for jump points, no set routes. Great vidi m8, beautiful b-roll

I really wish more of the human ships had size 5 cannons to play with.
Would certainly be cool. Although I still have a lot of love for my Ares, it's not really a fighter, per se
that the glaive has S5 weapons on such a small frame is literally the only thing it has going for it. If any other small fighter has that it would completely defeat the purpose of the Glaive (and it's 350$ price point). I guess they could sell the human version at the same price point as well... But then why pick it over an Ares?
nice visuals - i am surprised though that you didn'y mention the complete and spectacular redesign, this beauty of a ship is going to get eventually or for SQ42 - as its model is now one of the really older and low poly/texture ones compared sth like the banu defender...
I'll happily revisit things once they change. I always try to ground my opinions in what we can see here andnow
issue being that redesign was announced 2 years ago already, with still no sign of it reaching the PU. Its nice to think about, but wouldnt count on it.
@@thorveim1174 It won't make it in-game before SQ42, just as the Idris won't be flyable before SQ42, and such... I really start to think it means we'll never see the new model, as I believe less and less that SQ42 will ever be completed.

Greetings Farrister. This is a great video about the Glaive. It is an interesting ship. The Vanduul can seriously build ships. I have to admit that it isn't a ship for me. The three Vanduul ships are ok, but I'm not a big fan. I'm sorry to admit that the alien ships are not ships that I get excited about. The only Vanduul ship I kind of like the styling of is the Blade because it reminds me of a Star Trek Klingon Bird of Prey, but of course it is a fighter so there's no real correlation between them. Honestly the other larger alien ships don't trip my trigger as there are human ships that are comparable. I have use of a Vanduul Scythe, only because of my subscription with CIG, but I rarely fly it. The expense of them isn't conducive to justify my purchasing any of them. I frankly don't get into frivolous buying of ships. I buy ships that will support my chosen role of explorer or the direct financial support of that role. Thanks for the video. Man I love this ship. Its playing exactly as the Ion back in the days when it was good. Disabling the weak weapons and set all power to weapons will give you 9 shots, enough for each and every other fighter type outside, can even kill hammerheads with ease. Only problem for me right now is the bugged starmap control (there is a functional but not very practible workaround). Cant wait for the rework which is looking even better. Plus is it has red lights, that alone is worth it. :) Fantastic ship and my preferred choice for vhrt´s and ert´s right now. On the negative side is the price. It´s extremly expensive. Is it worth it ? Cant say for sure, I love it so yes for me.

Hehe was hoping your doing a guide, it certainly is special ship and not for anyone. Having 3 people as we here or there do with 2 glaive and a scythe...its just awesome and good fun. Hope you will add a few minutes after the redesign 🙂
Farrister how do you get such Chrystal clear gaming is this your monitor? Or do you just do video editing for a clearer picture I’m just curious if anyone els has such a crisp gaming picture. I have a 3080 on a 4 k tv and it doesn’t look like this crisp pop out picture.
did you disable film grain and the vinette effect in the graphics settings? Volumetric clouds are also very noisy at the moment.

Sometimes I do a bit of post processing on the video - colours, brightness, contrast etc. Mostly for the external shots (the gameplay shots I leave as native)
@@Farrister Thank you Farrister. I just find with a lot of videos including morphologis you guys have great pop out videos it must be a lot of video editing then. As with the other gentleman’s comment film grain and vinette off makes for a crisper picture too

@@BizzMRK BizzMRK looked at my options and had Chromatic aberration from 100 now set it to 0 man that made the picture pop. Couldn’t find vignette but looks way better with film grain off. Big thanks

goddamnit, we saw the new look for the Vanduul ships in engine like 2 years ago; when are they going to make the player usable ones that look, and fix the shield holes that all the vanduul ships have?
I do say that the ability to ram into something as large as a Hammerhead and usually surviving the collision whilst the HH doesn't is beyond hilarious, and the "headlights" on it used to be bright enough to light up a good portion of New Babbage.

One of the things I didn't really like or understand about the Vanduul ships, especially the early ones, was why they went, "let's make all our ships look like dead fish or dead birds -- that'll be intimidating!" But, at the same time, there's really no mistaking their profile for anything else, and the rarity may mean that a lot of pilots might not be familiar with how to fight it. For me, a non-combat flyer, there's not much interest in the old-model glaive. One would only fit in my fleet as a status symbol, and I don't really think I want to drop three bills for one with so few other features.
Also: The original price of the Merchantman was $250, not $350. I only know this because it's currently the best investment I've ever made. LOL.
I think it's all about just looking sufficiently intimidating... - bargain on that BMM!
Hi, well i can't wait for it rework seen summer 2019 during SQ42 tour... It looks really mean and less "toyish". That said, its no joke. Scythe too and blade too.
If i remember right, glaive is kinda vanguard/F8 rival, scythe (lighter in mass) F7 hornet, and blade gladius rival. But glaive punch like hell!
maybe style rework and speed rework will make it competitive.
maybe post rework glaive will have beefed up shield while scythe get less shield?

Price wise, i agree. Way too expensive. But like scythe it is an exclusive ship. And lore wise, esperia "stole" or salvage these to bring them to us. So that why vanduul ship are most expensives. I honestly considered one instead my vanguard because of the special design and just to have it as a get around ship, all in very unique and scary style.
Will be really interested to see what we get by way of "endgame" Vanduul ships!
The Glaive seems like a good fighter in the current patch. Gotta give it a whirl at IAE. Too bad about the price.

2 things. the weak "cannons" are actually repeaters. they have the same projectile velocity as any other repeater.
and 2. you can just turn off the weak repeaters in your weapons mfd to increase the wraith cannons. don't need to damage anything.
Ah I found disabling them didn't make a difference, I had to actually scrape them off. But good to know!
I just could not tune the opportunity to get a Glaive I just love the looks and for that's more important the how it fights lol
I just wish / hope we get to change the HUD colour everything else is great ( I would like size 2 small guns though lol) the twin size 5 are great when the ships are going straight for you 2 shots and Boom lol

@@Farrister yeah it’s a light! Technically the Hornet series are medium along with the Sabre
In terms of combat performance, I think that it should also be mentioned that currently, the S5 weapons are made of "parts" and not just one singular weapon. If any of these weapon "parts" get destroyed, the whole weapon is useless, such as the cylinders that move when you fire.
That being said, losing your S5 cannons makes you the most terrifying snub in existence.

I use atlas qt on mine. faster to get where you want to go without having to stop for refueling. Picked it up for shits and giggles, but i think ill end up melting it for a prosp, vulture, and a titan. time will tell. I actually prefer this design over the reworked one

It is a shame they lock this ship behind a huge paywall. It is such a unique fighter that does a good job representing the medium fighters. However, it is NOT worth $350. The Buccanear is $110, does the same job slightly better, and you can customize the weapon loadout as you please

I'd only been playing a day when one of these took out my Aroura in 2 or 3 hits when I was coming in to land on my first box delivery mission. Seems kinda a waste to drop $350 on a ship and then spend your time popping newbies in $45 starter ships :)

While flying my Starfarer Gemini, I got ambushed by one of these and he managed to take me out (I flew it solo, would have been a different story otherwise). I never engage in PvP and I hadn't played in probably a year, so I did a lot wrong, but that was the day I realized my Starfarer was almost completely useless solo.
Since then I've been loathing meeting one of these again.
I've always loved the glaive, always wanted one, but that high price? Nope. Whole lotta nope.

These old vanduul designed ships look like pirate fixed pyro editions of crashed vanduul ships.

humans eyes are incredibly insensitive to red and purple, UX elements should avoid those colors at all cost.
the only reason red is used IRL is because it contrasts well against green (a common color in nature).

P.S. I use to own a glaive and as awesome as the explosive DPS was, it wasn't worth losing a wing over; especially, WHEN IT COST ME AS MUCH AS IT DID! 😏
