- Опубликовано: 5 окт 2024
- We get a head start constructing the endwalls for our Quonset Hut Workshop with lumber straight from the sawmill. Although we may have fell short last building season, we intend to finish what we started this year and completely enclose our future shop.
We appreciate you tagging along for our Alaskan adventure 😀
Thank you for watching and supporting our channel! 💙

I love the new layout with mixing in voiceovers and actual audio with pieces to camera both explaining what you’re going to do and what you’re doing. That was brilliant!
It really is a good mix, especially with the loud work they're doing.
100% agree!
Yes, nice job, Eric, on the narration, I noticed it last episode, and definitely wanted to say it SOUNDS GREAT!!!
Agree! I also noticed the change and love it. 🙂
Same here. I'm really liking the voiceovers. It comes off to me like a high budget documentary. Eric and Ariel were always great storytellers but Eric as a David Attenborough level narrator was sort of unexpected. Wow.
Eric and Arielle - you really do have THE most interesting, informative, entertaining and enjoyable channel. Every episode is such a pleasure to watch. Thanks so much!😍🇨🇦
Thank you 🥰
Couldn’t agree more!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
I agree! Even 775k subscribers they still managed to read and liked comments. ❤❤❤
I LOVE what you do. It’s way better than so many TV series - not only the content that you put together, the film-making, the perfect combination of music to scenery, and the voice-overs, but above all there is no ego-boosting, you just both get on with what you do and share the glory, as well as the benefits! Thank you for every single episod.
@@SimpleLivingAlaska is this Quonset hut workshop gonna be heated?
Everything in life is better when you have a person that loves and supports you. That’s what’s special about you two. You’re both perfectly in sync, and it makes beautiful content.
Ariel.
Perfectly said!❤
🤣🤣
It is truly living the way you two do hang in there your special thank you for your kindness
So true.
Had I had a friend, companion, lover, confidant, fishing buddy, bed warmer and soul mate as you have, Eric, I wouldn't be a lonely old 75 year old man setting here envious of what you two have. Old or not, you guys are an inspiration and joy to all of us. 👍🏻
You Are going to make that bldg. A drive thru Right???😮. If you don't you will Really Regret it!!😢.
PS... And she's also pretty! ♥
@@rock-n-rollfoodie Eight years ago, I was diagnosed with stage 4 bone cancer of the lower spine and pelvis (DLBC), and 'given' (bless their hearts), eight months to live. It seemed like life and everything in it turned against me. I'm not feeling sorry for myself, as I am a Christian and have a better place to be, but once you get on the 'end of journey bus', people's natural reaction is to distance themselves. My wife had left me and turned two of my three children against me. I was never a 'saint', but I always tried to live a life that Christ would accept and welcome me into Paradise, so I never understood just why my (other) children believed all the lies she told them. All except my oldest daughter: She is 54 years old and has a learning disability (used to be referred to as 'retarded', but now that is an ugly word.. ). Her 'disability' also meant that she sees truth and lies and who owns which.. so she was not fooled. She is here with me and has been a real blessing. ♥ Anyway, God healed me of the cancer and that has been eight years ago, but left the pain associated with it for my own good. We humans have a habit of taking everything for granted and forgetting our true blessings; I believe that God left the pain so that I would praise Him every day and not forget what He has done for me.
Anyway, sorry for the Reader's Digest response, I get carried away some time.
It just warms my heart to see these two young people working and loving together with no drugs, alcohol or outside influence to break them up, as so many young people experience these days.
@@rock-n-rollfoodie Why what? That he is lonely? Why is it your business?
@@larawalker … why are you replying? Post wasn’t directed to you. You can mind your own business. Thank you 🙂
😮I'm just sitting here, amazed with what the two of you can and have accomplished!!👍❤
I have always thought with enough coffee you two could rule the world! Truly a working team!
❤❤❤😂
Eric and Arielle, a 2 person construction company. Well done. Glad the weather cooperated.
I AM SURE YOU ARE ONE OF THE BEST HOMESTEADERS AND BUILDERS!!!!!!!~~~~~
Suggest adding continuous king studs in the end walls that reach from floor to arches. They are needed to transfer horizontal loads (wind and earthquake) to the slab and plane of the arches. They need not be sawn lumber but can be glu-lams or vertical steel beams. Maybe they are already in works but you gotta have them or the walls will possibly bow in and fail in a wind storm. Double wall plates up 8’ won't do the job.
I love you guys so much. We lived in North Pole Alaska for 25 years and love the summers and fall. Loved picking wild cranberries. My favorite thing about Alaska. You guys are so precious. Don’t quit
@evernaworthen9109, Wondering where you are living now.
They for sure ant gonna quit doing Alaska 😊
In my opinion Eric & Arielle have Alaska running in their Veins now. They were Born for this challenge. In my opinion they are indeed Soul Mates.
My husband of 53 years are Soul Mates. He was 16 years old and I was 18. We’re joined at the hip.
His second job was putting up
Towers. His max feet was little over 400 feet. He was 17 when he got this job that paid him $125 a week! I told him I would walk around town with him and pick up Glass soda bottles! That last time he climbed I had to use binoculars to see him! I laid underneath him and did not take my eyes off where I was able to last see him. He told me latter he could see and heard lightning ⚡️ all around him.
I can’t remember but he could see different States😢
The next day he told Leo to cut him his last paycheck!
Anywho E&A are Soulmates ❤
In my opinion
❤😊❤

I know you guys have to eat and sleep but I wish your videos would never end! What an amazing made-to-order homestead you are creating!
I was thinking the same... I was like WHAAAAAT???! They're gonna make us wait until next time to see the rest of the end wall build? Awww... Pretty selfish I know, but your vids are that good. 😄
Excited to see you start to work on closing in the Quonset shop. Amazing team guys. Get cracking.
Eric and Arielle have adopted the lifestyle philosopy of Marine Gunnery Sgt Thomas Highway (Clint Eastwood, Heartbreak Ridge)... "ADAPT AND OVERCOME!!!" 🤩🤩🤩
So happy to see the ends walls started. You accomplished unbelievable achievements last year. And you have started off good this year.
Love hearing Eric narrate as well. Love seeing y’all work together. God bless y’all! 😀❤️
What a start after a long, cold, dark and snowy winter!
Your planning and all your hard preparation work will make this a DIY project that will truly compliment your teamwork, once completed!
Cannot wait for the next video👍🏻
I recently read a quote that completely epitomizes the two of you and the way you guys work together.
If you want to go fast go alone, if you want to go far, go together. I'm currently living vicariously through you guys. Team work makes the dream work.
The best half hour of the week!!!
Agreed! Love seeing my notifications for new videos!!
You see... this is how LEGENDS are made............
I not only get to join you on your journey in Alaska, I also get to see you grow and experiment with different video formats, and it's all very impressive to witness your growth and progress. Thank you for all you do!
The beauty of having you own mill......DIMENSIONAL LUMBER
The perfect couple. No matter ho hard things get, they will always be attainable with each other.
I like enjoy watching the two of you interact. One minute you are all business, then all of a sudden there’s a little PDA (kiss, kiss!), then back to work, then you are two 12 year olds goofing off, then back to work!!!
Ive believed from day 1 that this channel would reach a million subs. They have never let us down and have created an incredible community. The channel has 775 subs and if you are reading this Im betting you agree with me. So, tell one friend of yours to give them a look. That's all - one friend. You and I will get them to a million. Noone deserves it more. They have earned it.
I usually stop watching videos of folks building stuff, when they don’t Know what they’re doing and they’re explaining how to do it.
But you Two are Getting It Done. And for not being what you would call Professionals. You’re doing a great job and getting it done!
What a wonderful accomplishment, not many can say they cut and milled the lumber. And built it.
I’ve been in the construction trades for 30 years. Well done!
Hope All Are Well and Safe.
I think we really strive to say this is how we are doing it and what are reasoning is, not this is how it should be done from all our previous experience 😄 thank you for watching! Really at our root we just hope to encourage others to live out the life they want. Thank you for the encouragement, take care as well!
It's a natural thing to enjoy watching people work. You two make it extra fun to watch because you obviously love each other.
What an accomplishment! Another amazing project in progress. Wow, Arielle & Eric… it’s already been a year? Unbelievable! Onward & upward… eager to see how you get way up there! May the Sun warm your days! 💞☀️💞
Wow, you two are absolutely incredible!!. My family owned and operated a construction company for over 40 years. And I have to tell you that the attention to detail is so important when you are building. You two are just amazing. I really enjoy being able to share your journey on your new homestead. It has changed so much since you guys moved up there. It is really turning into a beautiful homestead. I can't hardly wait to see the finished product. You're both doing such an amazing job. I am so happy to see you are getting close to 1 million subscribers😊. I am so honored to be one of them.
Watching Eric mill lumber is such a joy as I know it means projects are in the works. Have you considered a trash can by your compound saw to throw scrap in? At the end of the day load it up and take it to the woodshed or cabin for burning. This end walls look great so far. You guys are an awesome team!!! Stay well stay safe ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
No but that is a great idea!
Right? I was thinking, put your wheelbarrow there and throw the scrap in. Then you don’t have to pick it up at the end of the day. Handle once!
I love Eric talking/ narrating
Excited to see you working on a project. I love how Eric explains what he is doing as you go along. Love it. That hut is a great space. Your going to get a lot of use out of it. Looking forward to seeing what and how you use it. Thank you so much for taking us along on your journey. We love you channel. Keep it up. Take care from Cape Cod Massachusetts ✌️🇺🇸❤️❤️
You two are the hardest working people on the planet, you’re just amazing!❤❤🐾🐾
You know, I just can't get over the magnitude of your work. I'm impressed, and I hope you guys give each other regular pats on the back for all you are doing on your new homestead. Bless you both. Stay well. Sending you hugs from Italy.
I LOVE what you do. It’s way better than so many TV series - not only the content that you put together, the film-making, the perfect combination of music to scenery, and the voice-overs, but above all there is no ego-boosting, you just both get on with what you do and share the glory, as well as the benefits! It was really exciting watching that wall come together.Thank you for every single episode.
With Eric narrating, I was almost waiting for; “ I’m Marty Stouffer, and this is Wild America.” Loved that show every Sunday.
OMG I thought the same thing.
It was a great show. It's a shame he turned out to be a scumbag.
You, two, are amazing! Thank you for sharing your life!
Wow you guys rock. It was cool to hear Eric narrate most of this. Thanks
Not that we don’t love both of you narrating while you work…the voiceover is great as well!!
I wish there was some way to adequately describe the joy that your videos bring to people. Your projects are always so well planned and you work so hard to complete them, and you complete them well. On top of all that, you seem to be two really wonderful people that are living life....together. Best wishes, and thank you once again!
Love Eric narrating. Gives a wonderful dimension to the video...hope this format continues when it seems appropriate. Love this project...been waiting all winter for it to begin!
Oh my goodness am I getting excited to see y'all deck out the hut to fit your needs! Have y'all thought about building a small room inside for the seed starting so you can keep that space warm enough for the plants? How about food storage shelves? Eric planning on building some more cool shelves for that or just use wire shelving? No matter what you all choose to do it's going to be clever I'm sure.
Yes we are so going to need to build shelves, lots of shelves 🙂 the seed room will be attached to the outside. Although it's big we plan to fill it!
Yay!!! I only grow in a small garden of 10 raised beds so I don't grow as much as y'all. can't wait to see the shelves and the room which now I remember you said that before. 🤣@@SimpleLivingAlaska
Ariel and Eric - I watch your channel now, only when my heart can manage it. My husband and I watched you from the beginning. We watched your move to Alaska through his first primary cancer, carotic artery hemorrhage, and 35 rounds of radiation. We watched your root cellar and garden build while our life got briefly back to normal and we did projects on our own rural property. Just the two of us, like you. We watched your fishing trips and canning process through his second primary cancer, through surgery, radiation, chemo, radiation again, immunotherapy, radiation again, clinical trial, and chemo again. We watched your wonderfully similar partnership through two years of his severe pain from a tumour in his spine, through his 5 months in hospital, and through major spinal surgery to relieve the excruciating pressure on his spinal cord. We watched you split logs and build new structures from his hospital room, all through his paralysis from the ribs down for nearly 3 months, up to the day of his death. I stopped watching you then because it was too painful after he died. I couldn't "visit you" without him. I've only tried a couple of times since, but I saw you move to your new place and manage your big concrete and quonset hut build through veils of tears. Today, I watched as you started the end walls on the workshop. I feel a lump in my throat and I admit that I'm crying as I write this, but today, it was a gift to visit with you. Because it also meant a visit with him. Thank you. ❤
I'm so sorry for your loss, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I'm glad you tried to get watching the guys alone, baby steps.
You both should be very proud of yourselves your hard-working people with a lot of integrity
Very nicely said, and totally agree with you.
Can't wait to see you two complete this and the excitement you two have building together also can't wait for more summer fishing videos
That Stihl chainsaw is the best you’ll ever own.
I know right
Dittos
yes Stihl very good reputation
Completely agree!!! However, I do need to correct the pronunciation of the name ... it's "steel" not "still" ... My dad has owned all of the ones that Eric has now, and the Stihl is hands down the best of the bunch. 🥰
I love you guys
I love to watch your projects , adventures, just having good wholesome fun and being safe
Hurry and do the next episode
I'll be waiting for y'all
God Bless ❤
I love the look of the sawmill shed. I am glad too see you get started on your shop again. Just stopping the wind will make it much more comfortable.
Do you guys ever disagree on anything? I would imagine being together 24/7 could get a bit to much at times. On camera you work great together so I hope it's the same when the camera isn't on. 😊 Truly one of my favorite channels.
We always want the same end goal but we often have different ideas or ways to achieve that, at the end of the day we are a team 🙂
I was surprised by Eric’s narration 🎉🎉 The sweet sound of spring…Eric and Arielle sawing lumber for a project. Go get ‘em kids❤❤❤😊 Just look at that pretty lumbar.
Yay, building season is upon us! I always enjoy those videos a lot, it's so satisfying to see the result of your labours afterwards, and I'm really curious to see how the shop will turn out in the end.
You are becoming professionals, it's real pleasure to see how you are improving in everything you do
I so enjoy your adventure of building your life together. You are a great team.
Two of life’s nice little pleasures: back scratches and new quality chainsaw cuts.
I’ve been looking forward to this video ! I’m so excited for you guys for all your plans for this property !
I am waiting for the larger wood shed , I sure did LOVE the old one
Love this building and how big it is. Sure looks sturdy. You two were made for each other. Cont wait till your next visit with all of us.
Looking GREAT!!!!!! It’ll be so nice when it’s all weather-tight and warm!!!!! Many future projects will be made in there💕
I turned 76 a couple days ago, and I remember very well, these days that you are living right now. I think that you're using your time perfectly. Get er done, the years fly by.
Progress 🎉. The sawmill cover is amazing. Looks so good working with the sawmill now. Putting up the top of the end-walls is going to be a challenge for sure. Having the bottom framed in makes it look good. Such great team work. Excited to see what you do next.
My daddy used to say "cut it off twice and it's still too short"!! Lol Eric reminded me of that saying when he said "cut it off twice and measured once"! Your building looks so good! I'm glad to see you're about to get it enclosed, will be so wonderful! 😊 Wow you all have accomplished SO much in just a year! Unbelievable!
Thank you for a most enjoyable episode.
Living in Pennsylvania and still seeing snow makes me feel cold . Work safe and stay warm. 🥶
I wouldn't normally use the word, 'beautiful' to describe a Quonset Hut, but that's how I see this one, and I'm sure that's how you see it too. Everything is more beautiful when you accomplish great things with a great person. 👍
One of my favorite RUclips channels. Y'all have it down. You know exactly what we want to see and it's brilliant. The way you two compliment each other is just beautiful. I've never seen a married couple more in sync in everything that you do. I'm disabled and have been living vicariously through these videos for a couple years and I look forward to them. Thank you and I can't wait to see what's next for this amazing adventure that you share with us all. Great content!!
Building projects make for a great day! Great start.
I love how your garage is 5 times bigger than your house! That's friggin awesome!!
You work so hard I get exhausted just watching you. You are amazing😮
The way Eric narrated the beginning of this video was really well done! It’s be really cool to have a sit down with each of you talking about how you gathered all these skills
For anyone worried about the future possibility of needing a room built into the workshop, you don't have to nail or screw the footer to the concrete floor. There are very good, strong, sturdy adhesives that can be used instead. For an exterior wall, however, even if it's not a load-bearing wall, you want to anchor it into the concrete to help give it more strength against being "knocked over" by wind pressure, and to help stabilize it if an earthquake hits. (They are known throughout Alaska, though some areas get them more than others, of course.)
My husband and I especially enjoyed Eric's narrative during the building endwalls segment. It was good having him explain what he was doing as he did it. We enjoy all your segments. We love the beautiful shots of Alaska in all her glory along with the animals that abide there. Thanks so much for enhancing our lives down here as we watch you grow your beautiful new home. We bought one of your lovely calendars this year. Love it!
Hello Kids,
I am 82 and male who loves watching you two work together
You both work so hard! You’ve done so much in a short space of time!
I could watch you two work all day! 😊
Very exciting to see more of the build.
I would have braced the double flat sections up top where it's sagging before framing, so that the width would be more accurate all the way up.
Your jacks at the top of 12 ft. Posts , should go to top of building.then ends of top door beam ends can nail into jacks.😊🏠👍👍👍👍✌️
I was hoping a post like this would be here, to keep the top beam from rolling. Great Job
I could watch the sawmill all day long. Also like the little style mix 👍
Yall two are a awesome team everything goes so good when there's teamwork Eric doing the narrating is great yall are fabulous people just seeing the teamwork is❤yall got smarts as my Daddy would say great stuff! And you do it together 😊
The excitement of building again!!
I guess you need to get a jump-start on spring in Alaska.
You two like a precisionly tuned machine. Fabulous piece of work. I can’t wait to see the next steps to the finished product. Thank you.🤗🤗
thats going to be so nice & warm!! you might want to install a window over the door to let light in & also to put a fan in to remove heat/odors!!!
The both of you! OMG, if only you could bottle that drive, energy, vision and togetherness/teamwork - just an ounce. 😊🤩
This is coming from a sixth generation framer with over 30 years experience. I am impressed with yall's ability to get things accomplished. You set your mind to it and do it. Just FYI if I had a choice and the time I would use screws on everything. You can never go wrong with using screws for structural rigidity. I personally don't think I would have felt confident doing the metal part of the building with my wife lol. But Arielle isn't your average woman. She is a go getter. I really like that quality in her😊.
Looking great so far. I can’t wait until the next episode.
I am thrilled to see you guys work with the lumber. I’ve been waiting to see this thank you so much. God bless.
This IS the video I've been waiting to see.
Stihls and Huskavarnas were the only chainsaws my husband used years ago.
He was a tree faller. Here, outside of Springfield OR
Can't wait to see what happens in that unit!!
My wife and I, and our two kids, are most likely moving to Fairbanks this summer from northern NY. Love ur channel. Giving me lots of ideas and tip when building in the extreme cold. Thanks a lot and looking forward to following ur journey!
Looking good. Can't wait to see the finished project.
As well as the Job you are doing the education that everybody is receiving and how you do it with your tutorial is just fabulous starting with the moving of the snow and ice and the job you guys do together can’t wait for the next step in my education on construction in Alaska of the new built job in process and our how to do it!
We all feel your excitement…..this is great 😊
The Quonset hut build has been my favorite project so far, can’t wait for the heating system
How Exciting, beautiful weather 😍 ❤️
We are following your steps, yet we are 6 years behind you and in Montana.
Our sawmill didn't get any use as of yet.
We have built from scratch (started last year) with dimensional lumber a 23x26 2 story cabin.
We are new at everything, especially because we have lived in large cities our entire lives.
You both are doing great !
LarchLine ❤
Awesome! I know the heated floor is going to be huge next winter!!
My husband and I watched this twice from our home in the Cotswolds, Uk and we both said how much we loved Eric’s voiceovers. We just Iove your accent Eric! We love how excited Arielle gets when you’re fishing! Love your cooking and love how hard you work to make your beautiful home. We just love love love your videos and they are often the highlight of our week! We get so excited when we see a video. Always saying Eric and Arielle have got a video up! Thank you for sharing we have been watching from the beginning. ❤
I believe there is nothing you people can't accomplish. Nice work and keep plugging away.
Looking pretty sturdy. Something I do with my sawdust as well, is fill a normal outside trash can (30 gallons I think it is) with all it’ll hold for my tractor carport and shop. Absolutely the best free dry sweep for oil spills and such.
Love watching you build everything Thanks from Juneau
we love your show. My wife and me are both 78 years old and live in southern Indiana, You guys work great together and make wish decisions for your homestead. The chicken coup build. The up grades to the cabin and most of all the new shop building. Smart move buying a place with a good cabin and then working on place to store your trucks and equipment. The quick build on the woodmill cover was to protect it and make it usable year around was a smart move. You guys got your heads screwed down tite.
Look forward to watching many more of your youtube videos. Thanks for letting us be part of your lives. God Bless
That's awesome work everything looks really nice out there,, have a great Monday evening..
