    In this video I talk in depth about what I feel might be the top 5 mistakes folks make when creating and using tones on guitar amp modelers and profilers. I have compiled this list from real life questions and examples I have experienced after years of helping folks get the most from their guitar amp modelers. I really hope you find these tips helpful, and I hope you enjoy the tone models and presets!

    On Reverb "Mistake" - I always put the Predelay ~ 40 ms to have the direct sound first and then the Reverb is comming up. This is preventing that the guitar is "buried" in the Mix/Band ;)

    Point 1 is spot on. I used disable that in any preset so I could hear what the real cab would sound like. A Vox speaker can in no way sound like a Marshal speaker, so I never asked to do that.

    great point about delay...the over-washy delay will be great for particular moments, but in a mix it's a disaster...general rule is that effects are like make-up: they should enhance, not "be" the sound...

    The MOST common mistake when using plugins is that people do not feed their guitar signal level correctly on their audio interface!, they either go too high or too low and that's why their sound is different than on the preset!

    As someone who went digital in the early 2000's I would add proper output etiquette, maybe as the number 1 issue rock and metal players suffer from. When you're used to 0db being your target with every audio device you've used, understanding that more isn't always more when it comes to output cab be hard to get your head wrapped around.
    Second in my opinion is EQ or the lack of it. All the rest of the usual suspects you nailed.

    Just on the first point: I use DT770's and they have that Beyer treble spike. I use oratory1990's / Autoeq's EQs to make my cans match closer to the harman target. On my PC with an IR, and on my HXStomp with 2 stereo parametric EQ blocks and the global EQ. It takes away two blocks (one can be skipped because it doesn't do much) but man is it worth it. Obviously when recording, I have to apply the opposite EQ to the recording so it sounds the same to everyone.
    If you use headphones I can only recommend looking up your cans and if they have a harman target EQ in his list, and to try it out. DT770's really only need their low end and treble spike checked, the mids can be left alone (this takes me from 2 EQs to 1 EQ block) and I won't go back.. It's in every single preset :'D

    • @void_snw
      @void_snw Год назад

      OH! And don't use the 10 band graphic EQ for this. It's modeled after a pedal so the Qs are non-standard and the lowest and highest frequencies are shelves instead of bells.
      I also wanna add a point to the video: People are always trying different pedals and amps and effects and settings but they rarely take a deep dive into cabs / mics / IRs, yet they make HUGE differences instantly.

    playing with diferent modelers , and trying in a diferents audio interface , i have amazing tones direc monitoring but when i record this sound it is a lot brighter than direc output , if dial to have good tone recording , direct output is very dark , that happen to me in every convinations a have done

    My experience has been people that play with too many or too much effects on their sound will not change them until they hear themselves in a mix or from a live recording……

    so, on mistake 1, if I use my multieffx as a interface, and use headphones as monitors, watch a video that shows me how to configure a metal patch, copy the same exact patch from the video on the same mutieffects, and when I test on my multieffects the same exact patch and it sounds different, then is the difference is on my guitar?

    I know that I like too much reverb. It’s not to cover mistakes; I just like sounding like I’m playing in a cathedral, lol. I dial it way back when I leave my basement and play in a group.

    • @Newnodrogbob
      @Newnodrogbob Год назад +1

      @@johnjcarter3187 it’s a finished basement with a low drop ceiling full of those ceiling tiles like they have in schools. There’s like a vinyl flooring and wood paneling on the walls. So, short answer: not very much.

    So are you saying that if I am sending my Helix to ny Marshall amp and cab that it might sound better to not add a cab to my pres-set I only had my helix for like 3 weeks and love any advice that you give to get the best tones out of my Heli

    • @JasonSadites
      @JasonSadites  2 месяца назад +1

      Yeah, I would tend to avoid that. You are sending the sound of one cab into the other by doing that. On the other hand, if someone does it and lives the tone, they should carry on. But I would start by trying without the Helix cab in that scenario.

    I may have missed it on the channel, but any opinion or interest in the Quad Cortex? How it compares to Helix for someone as well versed with Helix/modeler usage in general (such as yourself) would be valuable.

  • @adamwilcox6405
    @adamwilcox6405 Год назад

    You maybe correct but I think it's a mistake to assume effects are used to cover up bad playing. Some of us of a certain age (ahem) and our music taste was informed by alternative and post punk bands in the 80s like the textures the effects can bring. That doesn't mean they aren't being used incorrectly or not at their most effective way.

    • @JasonSadites
      @JasonSadites  Год назад +1

      I didn't assume that, I said that it is why some people might use effects incorrectly. I also said that if it is working the way you want and getting the results you want you should carry on doing just that.
