I used to play this as a kid all the time with my brother on NES. Loved the video, I had never seen that claymation Trog game before, looked so different.
I LOVE Trog! I find it extremely addicting, especially with two players. I tried this one out a couple of years ago at a friend's house and it has since become one of my favorites. I remember thinking the arcade version was kinda dumb when I was a kid. Yeah, the music sucks, but I can look past that in favor of it's super-fun gameplay. I played it so much that I was able to beat it without triggering any warps. Glad that you mentioned the warps, cuz lots of people don't know how to activate them. I actually find this version to be better than the arcade original.
01:50 That invisible barrier came from the brief invulnerability you had there. Look closely at the Bloop's feet and you can some sort of white lines about them, indicating that invulnerability you get at the start of a stage or by collecting a horseshoe-item.
I knew I've seen those one eyed cavemen before. Probably in one of my game magazines as a kid but never knew what type of game it was. Thanks for clearing up that mystery.
I have this game in my collection, great game to play! It's nice to see someone reviewing this one! I have seen this game on other RUclips videos, but mostly it's just a longplay video, not that there's anything wrong with that style of video, but I feel it enhances my enjoyment of a video game if there's a bit of context behind what I'm watching. Great videos as always Pam, keep up the good work!
As soon as the music started playing, I got a wave of nostalgia to my youth. I am pretty sure I hired this game from the local video store. I don't remember much about it, but I do recall that death animation. I'm pretty sure 6 year old me was so shocked at it. Snake Rattle 'n' Roll seems to stick out in my mind more, which was another one that I hired from the local video store. Anyway, thanks for the review and the trip down memory lane.
Oh wow, I played this when I was like five at a friend of the family's house, and I never new the game or remembered it in enough detail to google it. Thank you for this video, that's one mystery solved!
I used to rent this game from Blockbuster so my kid sister and I could spend the weekend talking shit to each other and having fun. Thanks for reminding me of those memories miss Pam!
I love Trog. I remember playing the arcade at Pizza Hut in the 90s. I never realized it got an NES port until a few years ago and picked it up immediately.
Holy fuck Trog! Omg! My mom passed away 4 years ago and Trog was one of the games we played together when I was a kid so the memories I have about it are pretty dear to me. I was always the orange one and she was always the blue. I've really been wanting to get the image of the 2 dinosaurs holding hands (once you beat the stage) tattooed on my forearm in memory of her but I have yet to do so. This game seems pretty obscure and I've never seen it pop up in conversation before. I saw this in my recommended list just now and it totally caught me off guard.
One I have wanted to play for a while, ive seen a few talk about it. Apparently it had a lot more gameplay additions planned that never happened, would have been cool to see
This looks like it has some elements of Pac-Man Arrangements where some stages have those "jump" portals and can move to other parts of the stage. Nice review and sending you all love. Keep doing great things!
Just picked this up by chance without no idea about the game. Just watched your video helped me understand the mechanics. The arcade game looks great! I’ll definitely look that one up on MAME.
Thank you for the Video! I had the MS-DOS version of Trog and I keep forgetting the name, this will help retain it, hahaha. It's very interesting to see different versions of the same idea.
I loved watching the video about this game ... Unfortunately I have been following it a little, as we are quarantined due to covid 19, but I love the content of your channel ❤️ hugs here in Brazil!
I love retrogaming and subscribed a few nice (and more popular) channels, but I just realized that your reviews are spot-on how I feel about the games after playing them, more than all other reviewers. I just trust your judgement to go out and try a game. Sub’d. Thank you and keep up the good work!
I forgot this game existed for like 30 years. But apparently it was still taking up a little spot in my brain because your thumbnail brought it rushing back to me. Wasn’t the arcade game claymation or some similar style? Edit: my bad.. just finished the video and you answered that. Good review Pam!
Same here, I had no clue this was an NES game, but I kept thinking... this looks so familiar. I'm glad I wasn't imagining things 😂 I think I only saw it once in my life, and I forget where.
This game was so much fun as a kid. Played it with my brother and our grandma. It was fun cutting off the other person to knock them into a mushroom or a tar pit. 😂 By yourself the game is ok. Playing it with others is what makes it so great!
Ya, This one entered my childhood at a time when things were crazy, my parents had just got divorced and we were living with my aunt, things were different and this game was a welcomed distraction from the chaos. Some people use songs to mark there periods of thier youth I have Trog. Thank you, @@Cannotbetamed1 for reminding me how far I've come and how much things have changed.
Funny how you compared the game to Pac Man and while it's definitely true that the similarities are there, I personally was instantly reminded of Bomberman. The animations, the way the enemies move and the random stage hazards as well as the way you control your character and the possibility of dying to water/lava are straight out of the Super Bomberman games from SNES, while everything else is Pac Man.
Solid video! I'm a big fan these types of games. I like to compare them to Bomberman as well as Pac-man. Check out RoboWarrior (NES), Devil World (NES), Coron Land (SFC/SNES?), Otoboke Ninja Colosseum (SFC/SNES?), and Bakutou Dochers (SFC) for other similar 'single screen arena'-type games. You could probably put Snake Rattle 'n' Roll (NES) and Goof Troop (SNES) in the same category as well. You'll probably like them if you haven't played them before, check 'em out for sure.
This game badly needs a new installment Played it just today and thought it would be cool to mix different items (like ice cube + pineapple) to get different combinations, like in Wiz n' Liz. More Trog contraptions, warps leading to different secret islands, gems (as a in-game money to buy upgrades), there's a potential for a remake.
I wonder if this was an inspiration for the one multiplayer mode in Conker's bad fur day where one team is cavemen and one team is raptors and the cavemen steal eggs
This is one of the games I remember playing all the time when I was a child. One of the few nes games I remember fondly. Dont think I ever beat it though
I'll never forget this game! I loved it. Question... Did anyone else have the Nintendo console with this bundled in with it? I know most people had Mario or duckhunt but I had Trog. The only game my dad could ever play. Interested to find out how many people remember this. I'm in Ireland BTW and it would have been about 1991 or 1992. Any help would be appreciated! 😀🖒
I've been playing Trog since I was like 4 years old on NES. I thought I knew everything for strategies like if you use all your continues you can quickly hit start on the other controller while player one is still alive on his last life and have all lives and continues again. You're just now continuing as Spike while Bloop is game over. But, the twinkling egg yields portals if collected last in one life? Omg I thought that was random and had no clue it was systematic like that!!
Iwatani, who directed the team that created Pac-Man, has indeed stated the inspiration came from taking a slice from a pizza.... then again, the original name for the game was Puck Man, which they changed for international release, because... well, you know how kids like to vandalize arcade machines to make them spell naughty words.
I hav played this arcade machine once, I might try this on the Nes. Yes, it is alot like Pacman that's how I appreciated the game :D anyway looking forward to seeing Flinstones surprise at dinosaur peak review & other prehistoric games, that Flinstone game am hoping to find one at the store and buy for the same price as a download virtual console release.
50 stages of that gameplay really does seem like overkill. Should've capped it off at 20 stages and also sprinkled a couple mega-trog (*lol* Troglodytes) boss fights intermittenedly.
I used to play this as a kid all the time with my brother on NES. Loved the video, I had never seen that claymation Trog game before, looked so different.
Hooker Malone same here reminded me of clayfighter on snes😇
A hidden gem. I love the art style of this game!!
These are pretty good graphics for an NES game!
This was seriously my favorite NES game growing up. So many hours of fun playing with a buddy.
You find the coolest games. Your channel deserves more.
Thank you

I watched your video on this just before editing mine. 2 player does seem fun but I couldnt get Will to play with me for more than a couple levels.
Cannot be Tamed cool 😎
I am agreed with nefarious wes. Trog is so super fun

No problem :) I'll have to check out Snake Rattle n Roll, I haven't played that one.
In Terminator 2, the little girls who the T-1000 asks if they know John Connor were playing this in the arcade
Is that right? I'll have to go check that out now lol.
Oh, cool, I didn't know that.
that's why the film was almost called Troginator 2
That's right. Trog is in the arcade of Terminator 2. The arcade Trog has clay animation. I had Trog as a kid on the NES.
Pac-Man is a puck. I’d have thought a good Canadian would know that :)
Oh wow, I played this when I was like five at a friend of the family's house, and I never new the game or remembered it in enough detail to google it. Thank you for this video, that's one mystery solved!
Glad I could help out
This game look's interesting, Thanks for sharing.

I actually really liked this game back in the day!
Never played this before! Wow! And my collection was HUGE when I was a kid. Thanks for this, sweety! You are the best!
Glad you enjoyed!
Little bit of Soul song always takes me back to this game
One of the great gems on the NES. I love this game!

That’s such a nice tattoo idea
Find it on an emulator.
I was obsessed with this game and solstice as a kid
One I have wanted to play for a while, ive seen a few talk about it. Apparently it had a lot more gameplay additions planned that never happened, would have been cool to see
Had fun playing this game. Always remembered the dance
For a game that looks so cute, that death animation is pretty dark.
It is! I was so surprised by it
I remember playing this with my buddy at 5 or 6 and laughing like mad men when they got eaten
This looks like it has some elements of Pac-Man Arrangements where some stages have those "jump" portals and can move to other parts of the stage. Nice review and sending you all love. Keep doing great things!

Nice Jurassic Pac!
Great review Pam. I never heard of this game but it looks pretty cool. I’ll have to look for it.
The catapults aren't random :) Enter from the side to jump up or down. Enter from the top or bottom to jump side.

Well thanks, I’m glad you like the reviews. Welcome to the channel.
This is one I've been meaning to pick up. The two-player mode looks pretty fun!
I think it would be fun, I couldn't get my bf to play more than a couple levels with me though because he didn't like the controls.
It is a lot of fun plus you can smack each other so it can be played cooperative or competitive
I just finished this game. Never could as a kid and was searching for footage and found your channel
Welcome!
I vaguely remember seeing this as a kid in the arcade. Didn't know there was a nes port, and thats why I like your channel.
Did not know about this NES game. Good rewiew!
Thank you
Your reviews are excellent! I love that you cover some obscure games in such detail.
Thank you so much
Cannot be Tamed enjoying this video remember another nes game about a caveman🙃
Pam you are a delight, definitely needed this video today
Glad you liked it
There are is a surprising amount of good caveman games from the 8 and 16 bit eras.
oh cool, always wanted to know about this game. Never played it. Great video.
Thanks!
Ooooh this hidden gem looks like fun!!
wow, never played this one, awesome!! will definitely check it out! :). thanks!

Falling off the edge sucks, especially when you can't even see the edge.
great video Tamed.
Now that you've covered Trog, can you review Caveman Ugh-Lympics?
This game was so much fun as a kid. Played it with my brother and our grandma.

I remember this game being in my favorite arcade as a kid. I was also rather disturbed by that death animation.
I never heard of this one. It's like if Pac-Man and Bomberman had a baby.
I had a mild obsession with the arcade game as a kid, even though I had only come across it a couple times. The NES version...ehhh not so much.
yaaaaay new Pam video! someday you'll do a review of the Fatal Frame trilogy ;)
i've never seen it before not even in the arcades, I'll take a look at it, and thank's for share

this is almost too nostalgic for me.. me and my buddy played this so much when I was like 5 years old haha

I think I would have spent a lot of time with this one if I had it as a kid.
Those catapults look so annoying! Great review Pam
Thank you!
Being able to defend yourself and there being an actual end instead of just flipping the score like pacman made this way more fun to me as a kid.
I like that you can punch the Trogs too.
@@Cannotbetamed1 Do you think the dino gets big and angry when he eats pineapples because he hates them?
"Dynomite!" Just made me think of Good Times. What were some of your favorite shows growing up Pam?
I can’t remember that many shows from when I was real young but later on I loved Xena, X-Files and old sitcoms like MASH and All in the Family.
We will check it out
You can't see edges on the left and right because something wrong with your overscan area. They are visible in the game.

It is a pity that the arcade version of Trog was never included on Midway Arcade Treausures vol.1 or 2 😞...
love those old NES carts.
So many competitive hours against my sister on this game as well as snake rattle n roll

TROGDOR!!!!!
He burninates the countryside, FTW. :D
I always wondered about this game. Being a dinosaur and eating people looks fun though!

Thanks!
Never trust anyone who wants to introduce you to a one eyed caveman
*lol*
Good advice.
This was definitely a hard AF game back then.
Yeah I'd play this over Pac-man any day. I like that the 2P version is competitive but not cutthroat.
I definitely spent more time with this than I ever had with Pacman in one sitting.
I only just picked Trog! Last week
Omg i used to love this game
