As a New Yorker, this is almost painfully accurate to what boyscouting in NYC would be like. I think all Boy Scout programs are indoors and they have to leave the city entirely to actually do any wilderness stuff.
I'm surprised the city of New York would ALLOW scouting. A program that teaches you self reliance, survival skills, and promotes accomplishing not via aid program but via determination and action.... it seems antithetical to the New York state of mind.

You know, we do like different things, and when a boy is going through puberty, it’s sure nice to not have girls around when you just want to be yourself. If they want to create yet another scouting thing for everyone, more power to them.

Girl Scouts and girl guides are two completely different things. You'd know that, of course, if you'd bothered to read ANY of the Girl Scout handbooks

“Elevators and subways that are smelling wrong and must be avoided”. Oh my gosh I died. Growing up in NYC this is one huge rule of thumb. If there’s a empty car during rush hour it’s because it “smells like homeless”. Which is a smell I can accurately identify on many different levels of strength.

i'm from Iowa to i think its just cool my home state got mentioned .
As a Scout from Kansas and with free access to the wilderness, this is hilarious and plays right in to NYC stereotypes and Scout stereotypes at the same time. Also- my girl, I love you and I feel you- who am I kidding, I am a part of the only girls troop for at least an hour and a half drive.
The actual scout law is "A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent." I am a tenderfoot rank

I once had a discussion with a Webelos den in which we concluded that if everyone in the world followed the Scout Law all of the time, the human race would have achieved utopia. It won't happen in my lifetime, probably not yours either, but if we can exercise leadership by example and get a few more people to follow the Scout Law a little bit more and then they can do the same, then maybe in 100 years or 500 years the human race can advance to that utopia.
