Dark souls 2 changed up how dodge rolls work a bit. You gotta invest a few points into a specific stat to make dodges feel normal. It’s a pretty neat game
Theory: Nashadra was once attacked by Rykard. Rykard was pressured by patches into doing so after patches claimed that nashadra was one of the remnants of Manus from the oolacile incident. Patches was paid by Godrick to do this. Patcehs undid everything
I never leveled that stat and after an adjustment period it was totally… fine. Not great but not terrible. I just couldnt level a stat for dodging. Others are more important imo
honestly, if you play dark souls 2 then dark souls 3 it is more confusing. lol if you don’t play dark souls 2, and just play dark souls 1 then jump to dark souls 3 it makes so much more sense.
Dude there are so many problematic mechanics. Enemy despawning and the way that humanity works (combined with how very rare human effigies are) are hugely detrimental to the overall experience, _especially_ if you're planning SotFS on your first playthrough, which he likely will. The effigy shortage combined with how punishing the following mechanic is especially is really enough to put people off of playing the game entirely all by itself. "Oh, you died to the boss? Well, that sucks. Maybe you'll get them next time with less max hp. Unless you want to risk wasting one of your few effigies just to probably die halfway through the fight again". Plus so many of the bosses are just dudes in armor. Like, most of them. Which is kinda tiresome after awhile. It's not even properly a Miyazaki game. I'm afraid Bro's gonna get to the DLCs, crash out and end up giving up on the trilogy, missing out on DS3, which is arguably the best one.
Dude I am so happy you're playing Dark Souls 2. I played it for the first time last year and it fuckin rocked. I skipped it for years because I believed the haters, but it turned out to be my favorite Dark Souls game (and 3rd favorite souls game after Bloodborne and Elden Ring). The beginning is a little rough, and admittedly there are a couple of actually bullshit areas, but there are so many creative and interesting ideas, and great NPCS, you can really see how it directly inspired Elden Ring. A couple tips that will massively improve the game for you though, upgrade ADP to 20-25 asap, and don't stress about losing health on death, it looks bad but it really doesn't matter THAT much. Also, you can clear out really BS areas permanently if you kill them enough times. DS2 definitely has some low lows, but I think it also has some of the highest highs in the whole series.
@@MateoMatzilla There is no amount of cope that can ever make "Oh you're having trouble in this area? Dying a lot? Maybe you'll have more fun if the game gets harder with every death until you consume a rare resource to reset it!" a good game design choice.
There's a limit to how much life you lose, and a ring that cuts that limit in half, and you can clear out areas of enemies with a little grinding if it's really bad . There's 100% a couple bullshit areas, but overall I like the tension it adds. But even if it is cope and I'm just lying to myself, DS2 has alot of other cool level designs and gameplay ideas that I think are cool as hell
Aight fam got some tips before you start 1. ADP must be leveled to a point where the agility (AGL) stat reaches or surpasses 100, no exception. Should be the first stat you upgrade. 2. Enemy spam and environmental booby traps are as bad as people say. If you're entering a building or rounding a corner, take out enemies one by one and don't be too impatient. 3. The rapier. Use it. 4. Fog walls DO NOT HAVE IFRAMES. Dumb decision but plan accordingly. 5. Whenever you die, your hp is leeched by 5% up to a cap of 50% unless you use a certain ring, which "generously" reduced it to a 2.5% loss. This can only be revered by ds2's equivalent to humanity sprites. So don't die too much. 6. This game's areas are harder than the bosses. 7. This game is overhated. If you feel too frustrated, just take a breather. gl brother looking forward to the vids
DS2 has some of the worst enemy clusterfucks out of any game they've ever made. It's also very difficult in the beginning because you start with 1 Estus and finding more shards is a huge pain in the ass. Overall I think it's a fun game but you're in for a world of pain. Another aspect of the game that is very controversial is you have to level up your s, there is a stat called "adaptability" you have to put points into in order to upgrade your dodge roll it's a terrible fucking mechanic. In addition to this you also lose some of your max health on death (limited to a certain amount) which you have to use an effigy (basically a humanity) to regain. Good fucking luck.
Don't listen to people saying not to play it man. It's underrated and even if you don't like some of the mechanics, its got some cool bosses and areas. Excited to see you play it.
My experience with dark souls 2 was definitely something, the early game definitely took some years of my life but I really enjoyed this game. And by far this was the game that gave me the most satisfaction to beat, more than malenia and Consort Radahn
Dark Souls 2 is definitely the black sheep of the family but it is overhated. It's a fantastic game. You'll see glimpses of stuff that was implemented in Elden Ring that they tried to do here
Aight Mr. Davo, basic tip before you even start the game. DS2 has a stat called ADP, which insanely, determines how many invincibility frames you have when rolling and how fast you drink your Estus Flask, if you would like to not lose your mind, I recommend getting that stat to around 20 or 25, and then forgetting about it ASAP
You’re in for a great game brotha, dark souls 2 will definitely feel different from dark souls 1, 3, and Elden ring but once you get used to it you’ll really like it. I hated it when I first played but after a while I appreciated it and to this day I still enjoy it. All I gotta say is you better be ready for the enemy placement and those boss run backs because they will definitely have you raging haha, cheers brotha it’s great seeing you start another game in the souls trilogy !!
This is the reason the Souls community doesn't have my full respect, telling people to not play DS2. Even for controversial games, like the 343 Halo entries, I don't see the community telling people to not play the games, they just distance themselves.
Ds2 is better than ds1 imo. It has issues but the biggest one is avoidable. The stat adaptability affects dodge roll eye frames but you gain levels much faster in ds2 than any other souls game so level the adp stat at the beginning and you’ll never feel underleveled
Hey, don't worry about the version of the game you got. Most people agree it's the better version, but even then the difference is pretty small. I'm pretty sure there was an old youtube video with a lot of sort of misleading claims that popularized the idea that the original was better, when in fact the remastered version you have fixes a lot lot IMO. Don't go hollow!
Try to stay positive! When I played ds2 I had the expectations of the game being extremely bad, and because of that I hated it. But in retrospective, I would have had a better experience if I hadn’t made such a big deal out of every single negative aspect. It’s still a better game than most other video games out there, despite it being my least favorite souls like.
Dark souls 2 is actually still a good game. Like people hate on it acting like its unplayable when actuality its still better than most non souls games. It just has a few quirks that the others dont have. Tip level adp to 25 and bingo you have yourself a goat of a game.
Ds2 is a great game, but just make sure you level Adp. The adp stat is the worst part about ds2 honestly, because it determines you're s (and i think hotboxes, but i could be wrong on that) so you gotta get it to at least 20 if not higher to get the s of practically every other fromsoft game.
Dark Souls 2 is a very good game, but I admit it has some strange gameplay quirks, I would absolutely recommend going through with playing it because it gets WAY to much hate
Glad to see you're giving Dark Souls 2 a chance. There are a lot of faults with this game, but people tend to blow them out of proportion. For me, what Dark Souls 2 excels at is expanding on DS1's metroidvania-style level progression, diversity between environments, and unique gimmicks/interactions with stuff in the environment that you won't find in any other souls game. Combat does lack, so expect that (and level ADP), but out of the 3 Dark Souls games, it certainly is the strongest in terms of exploration. Hope you have fun, looking forward to the playthrough :)
You definitely should play DS2. It may not be the best souls game but it’s still a good game and an experience and it will most likely make you appreciate DS3 more when you get there.
Bro... you should switch it up and do a Spell Sword build. Or a true Artorias build (level everything equally). You won't be OP but you'll have access to all the things. Good luck. 😜🤪
I really hope this playthrough starts soon and I don't have to wait for you to finish 6000 hours of the Witcher 3 first 😂 Jokes aside this is my favorite souls game. It's a meme to hate it. Its way way longer and bigger than DeS, DS1, DS3; there's so much content.
I may be wrong, but the only people who really like this game are those who had never played another Souls before it ("imprinting", I think?) and people who simply don't particularly like Dark Souls specific formula as a whole. It's not a bad game in and of itself, but you really can't find any of the franchise strong points in it. Leaving aside the shallow placeholder lore (many people don't care about it), some mechanics and maps are atrocioulsy badly designed, and its difficulty comes from how extremely frustrating the gameplay can become with the wrong build. And no matter which build you choose, the time will come when your build will be "the wrong build" for that certain area, and you will experience hell.
Ah Elden Ring 0.5 (Dark souls 2) a lot of game mechanics, concept art and some level design of this game being being reused in another game like Dark souls 3 and Elden Ring.
The biggest issue most people have with DS2 is the Adaptability skill. Instead of fat rolling or light rolling being determined by your armor, it’s based on a skill, adaptability, and you can only roll better by leveling up. So when you start the game, your default is fat rolling
blatant misinformation, your roll animation is still based on weight limit, the i-frames are based on adaptability, there are only fat and medium rolls but having low equip load makes your rolls travel more distance
I can't wait for the new davo Souls experience, but dawg you have got to level adaptability if you wanna hava a good time with this one dawg, ds2 is close to peak, but its got a few flaws

Exactly!

honestly, if you play dark souls 2 then dark souls 3 it is more confusing. lol if you don’t play dark souls 2, and just play dark souls 1 then jump to dark souls 3 it makes so much more sense.
Yep, I think DS2 is the weakest, but still a good, unique experience. It just needs some resolve, but Davo has it, he isn't a rage gamer.
