    As someone who worked in the German Automotive industry and had German cars all my life, I think that the Germans lost their innovative touch. There is nothing an etron does significantly better (or a BMW iX or the EQS or EQE etc) that would make me personally buy them. They're not bad by any means but they just luck in cool features that Elon and Tesla have thought about. The way these German cars still have all this stuff under the hood tells you everything there is to know. They do focus on making ICE cars and the electric version is just an alternative plan B version of the car so they have frunks that resemble much more an engine compartment than anything else. Or on this Audi here again, the interior is the same it's been for about 5 years now in any ICE Audi. Having to push a button to open the chargeport. No electric doors or if they add electric doors like in the new 7 Series you have to push and hold a button to close the door - how annoying is that?!

      This is also the first German electric car. From 2018. It was ment to be an ICE. Audi/Porsche's PPE platform will be first proper luxury EV platform. Q4, which is often shown in this video for some reason, is based on very successful, but not briliant, MEB platform.
      Germans were never great in innovation, but they were always briliant in execution. I don't mind driving 5 years old technology without worrying about basic things.

    Pretty sure the 370 mile q8 e tron achieves that range only with the wltp range testing, or the European system. • @jonathansage2147
    @jonathansage2147 Год назад +5

    He never mentions it, but there is one big advantage the Audi has over Tesla. While the range is not great, and other comments clearly hone in on this, there's no mention of the charging speed advantage. Tesla has way better range, but Audi has way fast charging speed. rsymons tested a long distance drive compared to multiple other EVs and the Audi doesn't compare badly provided there are enough stops to bridge the gaps.
    It's also worth mentioning that Audi gets closer to their rated range at 70 mph than Tesla, so the comparisons in this video aren't apples to apples.
    I have two Model Xs and wouldn't trade them for the Audi, but I still want to give it a fair shake.

    • @KeliK1
      @KeliK1 Год назад +1

    • @biff2bart509
      @biff2bart509 Год назад +2

      I'm an e-tron owner and thank you, I agree with your comments. The Tesla Bjorn data shows that the E-tron is still one of the fastest charging larger e-SUVs on the market and - despite being 4 years old now - is very competitive for charging and road tripping. For long drives, MX, iX and E-tron are all within a few minutes of each other: the e-tron's lower range is compensated by its extremely flat and consistent charging curve.
      TBH, I personally think the iX has currently set the new bar: it's very efficient and has longer real world range than either the MX or the e-tron, and the driving dynamics are the best of the bunch. I also think the iX looks amazing from almost all angles - I will say that the front may take some convincing, but from all other angles it looks awesome.
      We will see what the new Q8 e-tron brings to the market. My guess is that it still won't touch the iX in terms of overall range, but it's going to be a substantial improvement for a car that's already really popular and one of the best on the market. People forget that Audi has sold something like 160,000 e-trons world wide over the past few years (Tesla has sold less than 60-70K MX in the same time period). The car is wildly succesful and shows that EVs don't need to be all about range. Some people just want a really nice car to drive and the e-tron was the only option until earlier this year. The Q8 e-tron's charging curve is supposed to be even better than the current e-tron and its handling sharpened as well, though early reports still say it's not up to iX levels of handling. Regardless, I'll put my name on the list once they start taking orders. I've had my e-tron for 3 years and can't imaging going to a different vehicle any time soon. A new e-tron that is the same, but more efficient, with longer range and 10-15% faster charginer sounds sick: sign me up!

    • @Allan_A

      Most people never road trip, or rent a car when they do (even gas car owners rent to prevent wear on their own cars). I've driven over 130K miles on EVs since 2019 and none were Tesla. With my experience the extra cost of a Tesla doesn't make sense (I currently have a Kia Niro EV).
      In the case of the Audi, some people just want a nicer car. I've driven the Model Y Performance and it's an amazing car, but the interior doesn't do anything for me.
      Tesla is ahead if you road trip regularly or can't charge at home, but for 90% of people who can afford an EV you're battery is full when you wake up and you don't really need even 200 miles of range. I even had a 2019 Nissan Leaf 40 kWh in Minnesota with range loss from cold weather, so I speak from experience.

Audi is one of my favorite car brands I hope they can make a efficient, long range, performance electric car someday. As of now you have to choose either range or performance which is sad coming from Audi...

    great video Kim! i was thinking of audi also when shopping for EVs. again is about the charging infrastructure that Tesla have and no other car companies have! wake up car companies! all the tech you have but you can't drive the car then whats the point! also Tesla better take their game to a higher level fast! audi, porsche etc are coming and coming fast! tesla do you still want to be the #1 EV company!

    The AUDI Etron does not qualify for the US TAX CREDIT. It is not made in the USA. ironically the tesla now has the 7500 tax credit made in America.

      What’s ironic about tesla now getting the $7,500 tax credit? The fact that they had it and lost it and now have it again? Kind of wish they still had the $7,500 credit on the higher end models.

    Grills may be fake, but drive a BEV at high speeds for a while and they'll overheat. So vs ICE vehicles, more cooling capacity is removed than heat rejection is reduced. ICE cars will happily drive at top speed in summer, from full to empty. Slow BEVs like ID3 will do that as well, but goign slow takes very little power, causes much less heat rejection in cells and motors.

    I drove the Etron and it’s like any other Audi, beautifully crafted and built. But for the money, do you want a “normal” car. I didn’t mind spending that kind of money when I bought my Model S. Range is pathetic.

    Audi really does make nice vehicles and the creature features are also amazing, but we're still talking about a 100k vehicle. Can you pls explain your statement that after the tax credit both vehicles are about the same price. True but wouldn't you also need to calculate the tax credit into the model Y which would still make it 7,500 cheaper than the Audi.

    I love your videos, but I have a big criticism here. You are taking Audi pricing at face value. Try walking into an Audi dealer and buying one of those SUV's for the prices mentioned in this video. You are going to be looking at a 10-20+% markup over what is quoted here or by Audi. Not so for Tesla. Furthermore, I doubt the "MSRP" quoted here will even be accurate once they release a "Q8" version that doesn't have dismal range.

    4:52 Will the E-Tron lose it's tax credit in the new year? MYP should be able to squeak by, offloading the FSD to purchase post-delivery. If both are true, the near-parity will flip to a $15k difference.

    They're all lovely cars in their own right. But something that really stood out for me is the urgent need for (affordable) EV's. Living where I do in Sth Wales, the individual prices of each of these cars would either buy you a 2-3 bedroom house or the better part thereof. Admittedly those homes wouldn't be in in upmarket areas, but neither in the worst ones either.
    It's true that the wealthier in society usually tend to lay the groundwork in the beginning for new technologies before them becoming available to all. But EV's aren't a new phenomenon anymore and it's long past time for the average owner driver to be able to buy one, new or secondhand. Elon's not wrong when he says Tesla's are frankly, embarrassingly expensive.
