    Nice Try! You tried to flip the script on us saying "if we didn't go through a divorce then we're a visitor here" lol touche. You may be partially right but here's where you're wrong. I enjoyed your breakdown but the kid thing is a complete stretch. He's definitely not blaming them. It sounds more like he's expressing his fear of losing his kids to the lifestyle of the bourgeoisie. This is a common fear of the black experience, just like survivors guilt. We don't want to lose our identity and sense of blackness. There's a system set up to wipe us out starting with our culture so we're in constant danger of losing ourselves. The same reason many of the black community shun therapy because we don't want advice from somebody who's not from our background and couldn't possibly understand. The church becomes a substitute for therapy. In that verse Kanye spoke directly to his kids how a black parent would speak to their child in front of them. And that is the experience that you will never understand. It's not about being from the streets (even though that could help alot). It's that you will never understand because your culture is not in constant danger of being taken from you.

      I agree with some of your points, but, blaming a lack of understanding of our background doesn’t stick when there are Black therapists, psychologists etc. We need to address the stigma within our own community when it comes to seeking mental healthcare and we cannot use excuses like this to not get the care we deserve and need. We carry an infinite amount of trauma that we deserve to work through and that our future generations will feel the impact of. Also, our sense of blackness shouldn’t be tethered to what we have access to - how much money we have, what type of home we have and what our kids have access to isn’t what defines us or our children. Our culture is so much more than this and we are so much more than our struggles. My Black parent wouldn’t talk to me like this and now me as a parent would never talk to my kids like this. My brother, I don’t want to seem like trying to devalue your input and your opinion - but we can acknowledge stigmas without making them into excuses.

      @@computersaysno1089 he’s not abusing his kids. People can talk to their kids however they want, so long as there’s no abuse. Hurt feelings =/= abuse. But to your other point: your current material and socioeconomic standings, especially as someone who just got to the middle or the top of the ladder, does effect how you eventually relate to black culture. You have to go out of your way to stay grounded with your people or else you will definitely become more of an advocate of your class, than your people. There’s so few of us there, and the ones who are there, have been there for a while themselves. Their whole perspective of society is warped and mired within the prism of your typical whyte bourgeois. Yes, we are more than our struggles, but our struggles is at the focal point of the blk experience. Abstract fluff isn’t going to change that fact. For the record, I also think therapy is overrated. I really have no interest in even sitting in front of a blk therapist and have them tell me how to deal with ish they ain’t never been through. They never had to be disgusted with themselves for selling bricks when they were younger. Or watching your close friends get sh*t and d*e in your arms, or have cousins try to k*ll you for dope, or wake up to nothing but roaches in your microwave, having no food in the fridge, then going outside and dealing with crooked nationalized gangs: the NYPD. These are things I went through. I learned how to process all of that on my own. Last thing I want is some born-into-the-middle-class, boule, Jack and Jill, nu-blk telling me how I should cope with issues that ain’t even been through.

To me that’s what art is all about not just making stuff that appeals to “fans” but also being true to who you are as an artist regardless of public opinion. I also don’t expect others to navigate life the same way I would and understand that we’re all going thru life differently as humans. That is art in its purest form . I usually like your takes but here, I feel like you're misinterpreting ye's "boujee and unruly" line. He says they're spoiled and "only want more" in the previous line and that's obviously in reference to how he perceives Kim raising their children. Ye would rather his children eat top ramen on occasion as to get a sense of his roots/upbringing. That's at least how I interpreted the line. Nothing seemed "targeted" per se at his children but rather at how he feels they are being raised in a Kardashian household.

    • @rubyrayne8
      @rubyrayne8 2 года назад +19

      Agree, I don’t understand how saying his kids are being boujie and unruly is the worst thing Kanye has ever done. Or that it’s child abuse. What I got out of it was that he wants his kids to be down to earth, to know people struggle and how easy they have it, as his life was never easy. He’s not blaming the kids. Also saying someone is being unruly, how is that mean? Disorganization can be unruly, if I say my desk is unruly am I being mean to myself? I just completely disagree. But I get that the prof here has been through divorce with a possibly toxic person so he is could be projecting. When you’ve been through someone tough like that, and your children were involved, it would be hard not to.

    I think your analogy of being an outside observer to "hip hop culture" and not a participant per se (equating it to 17th century French literature) is a great one and does not preclude you for analyzing it fairly. Outsiders may lack an insight that comes with being an inside member of a community, but at the same time, being an insider may give you blind spots that a more macro perspective of an outsider can give (this is particularly true when non-Americans talking about America, American politics, and American culture). Yours is one of a number of opinions that people should engage with/consider and should not simply write off because you're a self-proclaimed "outsider" (who also has the humility to admit that). I think from the ad libed lines in the performance of "Runaway" at the LA Memorial Stadium with Drake ("I need you to run right back to me, Kimberly), and the supposedly dating Julia Fox to make Kim jealous while she dates Pete Davidson and punching the fan, it's worrying.
    Also appreciate the personal perspective you brought to divorces. Maria Mena had a heartbreaking song "Power Trip Ballad" addressed to her mother about how her mother tried to turn her against her dad post-divorce.

    • @nnnnnn496
      @nnnnnn496 2 года назад +2

      The "punching the fan" statement as far as I know was a set up. In the video you can clearly hear "He's gonna fall for it". And it's just allegations and nothing concrete. You know how parasitic people can be for some clicks and money.

    I think this verse from Yeezy is very introspective. He acknowledged he let his pride win, and I know every single one of us have at once had that occur. Just because Yeezy is a celebrity doesn’t mean he can’t feel certain feelings and express them in his song. He is an artist, and we should appreciate him putting this verse together to get a look into his emotion and life.

    We are the same age. I’ve watched a thousand reviews of eazy so far - waiting impatiently for one person to reflect on the beastie boys and eazy e samples - how powerfully evocative they are. You are the first reviewer to express exactly how I felt listening to this song. This is Kanye returning to his (and our) nihilistic roots - to the darkest, if most visceral era of black music - shaped by the bleakness of the crack epidemic and the gangsterism that grew out of it. This tone also describes the state of Kanye’s soul right now. Rather than calling out to god for strength, he is casting a spell in order to summon our spiritual demons (and heroes): eazy e, Tupac, dr Dre, the beasty boys and the Game. This is also Kanye’s warning to Kim. It’s what he means when he says “I’m going to turn up the music and wake up the neighbors.”

    I think you’re slightly misinterpreting Kanye’s verse on this song. The child abuse thing is sort of a stretch. Yeah clearly if his kids are misbehaved it’s a reflection on him and not them, but I think he’s referencing a larger part of the KimYe era. He’s expressed a lot of disdain for the reality show lifestyle, what his daughters should be allowed to wear, not wanting his daughter to become some sort of porn star (sexualizing children is something he’s spoken out against multiple times). I think more than attacking his kids or even blaming them for being unruly, he’s attacking a point of disagreement between him and the kardashians. Dare I say he’s blaming THEM.

    • @morningowl43
      @morningowl43 2 года назад +16

      Agree to disagree completely. The professor here is making a perfect interpretation. These kids are NOT to blame in this messy public divorce. No child is or should be. Kanye made them part of his own personal shit forever by putting it in a song that they will hear when they grow older. That their friends will hear. That their immediate family will hear. It’s absolutely disgusting. He’s blaming them and making jokes about it whether you wanna look it that way or not. He’s trying to be a “nice” dad but he’s not a good dad. And it’s not about a celebrity relationship that’s not going well, it’s about a bad divorce between two people in the public eye. And Kanye made it that way with this song, hence the line “I guess I’ll let my pride win.” At the end of the day, what we see on camera is not what’s behind the scenes and Kanye showed all of us just how it really is and how he really is when it comes to family…ugly.

    He’s calling out Kim as a parent, that’s why he referenced the nannies. Momma’s house is Kris. Kris has been protecting Kim for all her short-sighted, exploitive, selfish acts. From the fake marriage to her “mixtape”.
    In context, Pete made fun of Ye’s depression and referenced the year before his mom died with the 2006 hat on SNL. Ha ha.
    The cold thing about it is Kim is hooking up with Pete as a co-sign. Pete Ye and Cudi had dinner(s) together. Look up “dirty macking”
    Some of y’all ain’t picking up on how f’d some of this stuff is because y’all listening to the “there’s a crazy black man…” Karen bit on some protectionist of group/gender, it’s subtle. But, in some situations its nearly Emmett Till level public character attack (be reminded of the family he is dealing with).
    The “i don’t bring nothing to the table” is a culture vulture reference.
    There’s a lot going on here in this song.
    All things considered, Ye has a right to feel a certain way if he feels like he was socially bullied, publicly made fun of by Pete years ago to have him now sleeping with his wife. Again, Pete and Ye were “friendly” we each other.
    There’s a reason Kanye thought Drake and Meek Mill was involved with his wife years ago. She could have been gaslighting him this whole time.

    Great analysis, and thank you for exposing how the samples used are part of the narrative of the song.
    Just to add some context: Ye strongly feels that his wife and Pete Davidson are conspiring to take his children away from him. He complained on Instagram recently about how Kim invited him to see the SNL show live where she kisses Pete in a skit, when she was already dating the latter, and also how he was forbidding by security from entering Kim's house when Pete was there, even though his daughter North told him she wanted him to come so she could show him something. He also complained about not being told where his daughter Chicago's birthday party was being held. Because of these issues, he was very angsty lately and ended up knocking out an autograph seeker who made a comment on his family. So, this gives some more context on what exactly angers him and prompted him to make this song and to say those things.

    No Abuse here sir just a father being concerned with how his children are being raised.
    I watched four kids for like five hours today
    I wear these Yeezy boots everywhere, even in the shower today
    I got love for the nannies, but real family is better
    The cameras watch the kids, y'all stop takin' the credit
    Noncustodial dad, I bought the house next door
    What you think the point of really bein' rich for?
    When you give 'em everything, they only want more
    Boujee and unruly, y'all need to do some chores
    Rich-ass kids, this ain't yo' mama house
    Climb on your brother's shoulders, get that Top Ramen out

    but it’s compelling from an artistic standpoint
    seeing a man lay his life
    his decisions
    his mistrust of something he needs like therapy
    and his horrible reaction to a divorce
    on a song is very compelling

    Music is music bro if you love music you understand what it does for the soul. With rap you are encouraged to speak your truth. If you make good music it does not matter what your back ground is. There is no right way or wrong way. You have three greats of the genre on this song. I personally love this song. Kanye is expressing his desire to keep his family together. Everyone was counting the game out as well. I’m very happy he got a hit. Hit boys production is always fire.

    I agree with you 99.9% of the way I do believe this is a great song as far as paying homage to the past I also think it’s a great way for him to get his aggression out I have made music for years and I have been in arguments with people and I have made songs about these people sometimes and it has always been therapy to me so making the music itself is the therapy and I think that was the message she was trying to convey these are things that bother him hurt him and I don’t believe he’s going to act on any of it I think it’s just his way of getting it out and expressing his emotions

    Unless you're a fly on the wall, we have no clue about what went wrong in that marriage. It's great everyone can have an opinion and not judge an individual. With that said, your breakdown of this song is just that. Others have listened and can relate with Game concerning street life and also feel and miss the old school hip hop, in regards to the production. Sure, Ye vents which is a great thing. We should all be able to do this, with whatever we are going through with life. I found humor in the" Who"???, as he talks of beating up Pete. That sounded so much like Kim. Ye's too smart to jeopardize what he's built, you can tell he's only having fun with it.

    Just like the women whom have been abused, beating, drug and rape by many people in
    Holy Wood, Movie Actors and Actresses the women today have a saying: Me too movement for
    women. What YE' with this music Easy he wrote and produce etc, is a new movement for men
    today call: Me too movement for men. This is the First time in my life when I witness a rich Black
    men who carefully and wilful produce a metaphor that vindicate many men who have been
    victimized by Women, Court, Jail system when most if all men would not be successful like YE'

    Kanye is speaking to Kim through the kids. He is criticizing the way Kim is raising the kids and is telling her how he wants to raise them. The way Kanye yells at his kid in his song is the way a black father or immigrant family would yell at their kids. Nothing abusive about it. If anything it shows Kanye is concerned for the well being of his children. At their moms house they can go live on tik tok to millions of people (despite being under the age of 6), get chores done for them by nannies but in his house he wants his kids to know what it's like to work hard for what you have and live life away from all the smoke and mirrors. Kanye himself knows from experience how easy it is to become engulfed in all of the lights. Look at how many celebrity kids go out of control once they lose touch with reality. As someone who grew up in a divorced family I can tell you that my dad becoming closer to me as I grew older completely changed my life. Without a disciplined/stern figure in my life I would've spiraled out of control. One of Kanye's biggest societal criticisms of the past few years has been how fathers are absent from the black community. Take that for what you will. Most people are hating on this song heavily but I'm glad your open to discussing emotions that may arise within artistic mediums. Art isn't always supposed to be pretty

  • @andremackron9827
    @andremackron9827 2 года назад +4

    Sky I think this is important to read as there’s a lot you missed or misinterpreted about the songs lyrics
    This is not to say him saying this in public is necessarily good
    He got the house because he’d like his kids to not have to get driven if they want to see him whenever they wanna visit, he’ll go to the house next to them he’s rich he has a lot of cribs
    Him saying the thing about cameras and kids was about how he’s always been very concerned about the reality tv shallow situation of the kardashians and the oversexualization of children and trying to make them model at a young age, he’s throwing shade for that and he’s been hunting at that for years. ESP with the sick things that happen in the entertainement industry that makes sense.
    Kanye wasn’t calling his kids spoiled or insulting them, if you look at the context of the last lines he was saying how he bought the house next door for him and his kids. After that he’s stating “this ain’t your mama house” to the kids saying he gon have them do chores and stuff hence why he’s saying “when you give them everything they only want more” he’s saying he wants to keep his kids grounded. It is NOT him shitting on the kids it’s him saying what his role as a parent is
    He said he’d beat Pete Davidson’s ass because Pete told Kanye to “get on the meds, take them” and insulted him a few times in the past before the divorce then immediately got with his ex wife. Also Pete’s security and shit wouldn’t let Kanye know about where his child’s BIRTHDAY PARTY is, he had to go to social media for it to be told to him. This is kinda crazy since they could use him not being there as leverage in the case and his daughter will associate him not being there without knowing the reason.
    There’s also the societal and political context he’s talked about a lot about how he didn’t have a father and there’s an issue with black men being separated from their children through all sorts of unique layers making that easier and tthe generational implications, which he doesn’t want happening to his children, he doesn’t want to continue a cycle so a white man such as Pete Davidson working with his wife to orchestrate shit like that I mean it’s pretty outrageous.
    The therapist part was him documenting the character arc of his career and how this next phase or this verse is him letting his pride get the best of him (cable bar = lead up to and Taylor swift moment and also how kardashians use the cable) (tell me bout my arrogance = mbdtf and Yeezus him fully embracing the villain role, counselling was Ye, tlop era, god Ye wanna let god in = Donda, jik, pride part = this verse)
    Again not saying he’s necessarily fully in the right but a lot of the context of the lines I think flew over your head

    • @andremackron9827
      @andremackron9827 2 года назад +1

      I agree with you though obviously I haven’t been thru the experience; about the part of this being him in the angry stage of the divorce. it seems he’s aware of this with the “tonight I give into my pride” line which is interesting
      But
      Also be aware right after it was confirmed Kim was insulting him on live television making jokes and this song is about “my life was never easy”, the troubles game and Kanye face in his life. Games biggest hurdle is the ptsd from his young life gangbanging especially and that stress that made his life harder, ye’s biggest pressing matter for him rn is the catastrophic implications of his divorce and all these things he’s worried about and his care for his kids and his anger at his wife. Nothing is easy even about listening to it.
      I wish I had a debit card rn to subscribe to ur pattern and say this thru there but this my only way to do it

    • @andremackron9827
      @andremackron9827 2 года назад

      Also “rich ass kids this ain’t yo momma house” he’s purposely impersonating an old black father, this might sound aggressive as hell in or to a white family but it’s not so much that in immigrant or American poc families
