Praying that with a title like that this manages to hit the youtube algorithms! Really enjoying these breakdowns of the listening parties
I think all he needs is maybe an editor and some lighting sticks to up the production quality since that’s what trends in the RUclips “essay” niche. Some of the best content and insights I’ve seen on this platform are from this channel, so I hope he can pick up some well deserved steam!
2nd on my recommended
@@user-ne1nd8sr8f I like the rawness of these videos. Just him talking to a camera, it takes away from the allure for me if he’d get this, somewhat’ big shot production. Neither do I think that should be the focus of his channel (who am I though lol). I believe the cream will always rise to the top and he seems to be enjoying what he is doing and getting quite a good reception from a nice community. Don’t think there is any need for much more than that, just my opinion though
@Jen Psaki I wasn’t but I am now
Really appreciating the discussion happening here. I've definitely thought about upping my production quality, but it would just not work for how I do the show. It is essential for me to have the show be super nimble, just me, an iPhone some notes and my thoughts. That is what leads me to doing three episodes a week and what keeps it from ever becoming a chore. It is just like an extra class that I teach, and I love teaching. I recognize that this means that I'll probably never make it "big," but I NEVER thought I'd get over 1,000 subscribers given my style. To me, I am big! :)
I am surprised that you didn’t talk about the globglogabgalab sample at the end of Remote.
A famous RUclipsr Videogamedunkey streamed basically a meme-Donda album which had the globglogabgalab sample. It’s apparent that this clip found its way to Kanye and Kanye decided to add it to the listening party just for the internet.
Is this just major coincidence maybe?
@@pjetrs It could be but it would be a massive stretch for me to believe that. It’s too specific, too weird and unexpected of an addition to be just a coincidence.
@@pjetrs it’s basically impossible for it to be a coincidence, Kanye put it in there for the meme which is pretty great since I also love dunkey
exactly, and listening parties are parties for a reason! i think he just has fun with it by changing track lists, adding & removing features, and playing mashups with other songs. doesn’t mean that all of this will end up on the finished album
@@blondedivy I think especially with that stem device that he’s releasing that allows ppl to change the songs around thinking about it now it’s interesting how he uses that for this album
A friend of a friend of mine pointed out that in a lot of ways, Kanye is really similar to Matthew Barney, especially with this series of listening parties and how they're like spectacle driven abstract art. The rapping is just the theory-fiction that keeps it grounded and recognizable, but it ultimately is becoming secondary to Kanye's concept, image and sound design.
Tl;dr Donda may well be Kanye's grandest artistic statement yet, if not ever
The most unshocking thing: he didn’t drop the album
He's dropping soon
No. Instead he's dropped experiences. Unique, creative experiences that nobody else is music giving us + we're still hearing the music & u can find recordings of the livetreams
Lmaooo this was literally said a day before the album dropped
Hope this message reaches you well, you're consistently one of my favorite youtubers. Sometimes I think it's just good to send positive vibes out to creators not getting the credit they deserve haha
Thanks! I read everything, but don’t always respond. It is appreciated.
I agree man, I love the passion in the videos he has. It is kind of infectious haha
"The most shocking thing is when Kanye took his face off ..."
Why yes, that would be very shocking.
The joys of not editing!😀
Was waiting for this video! Excited to watch it!
Amazing review! Really appreciate it!
Beautifully put, didn't want the video to end
Thank you for explaining your POV so openly
Love you Prof!!!
Love that you're covering this
IT DROPPED! Congrats to you and everyone who made it through this crazy rollout. Cannot wait to hear your thoughts on this piece of work after you’ve taken the time to fully digest it.
love your videos man, so calming, insightful and interesting.
Love your videos & never stop making them love your thoughts
I think Manson was an incredibly intentional pick. The exact opposite of Kanye in a spiritual sense and also one of the most contreversial artists of our generation. And I think this adds authenticity to Kanyes point, if he's trying to say that we are all redeemable in the eyes of god, that Jesus can truly walk with sinners and change them. To choose anyone else, someone less contreversial would lose the point, if the point is radical acceptance and redemption through Christ, take that to the extreme and pick the most contreversial figure possible.
I still didn't like seeing him there though, some of those allegations are really really really bad.
Even then through all the frustration and controversy I think we will look back on this era as nothing other than a brilliant piece of performance art.
I agree
Thank you for explaining this I was so stuck on why Kanye (a changed man for God) would feature Manson (a Satanist with a messed up legal situation) but this put it in perspective thank you!
He alread expanded on said topic, with his 4th single in career titled "Jesus Walks". Fact is, i think he is better man than me, i would kick Manson's kidneys if rumours are true, but there is Ye, putting trust in God's judgement instead.
Loved the analysis
enjoyed your review as much as the LP
Been here since your amazing breakdown of CMIYGL, so not the longest time, but I really enjoy your breakdowns of all this! Subscribed
just here to say i love your videos and analysis
Amazing analysis!
Another awesome video. This made me feel waaaaay more positive about Listening party 3 and the changes that were made….
Thank you for this Channel
your videos have been such a joy watching during the rollout. glad i dont feel like im going crazy with how immense this thing has been to just watch unfold as an elaborate art piece and not just "Wahhh messy cash grab rollout!". also find your take on MM's presence quite sobering and well put
Phenomenal video hope Kanye does more performance art for you to interpret and dissect. Beautiful takes
Wonderfully , wonderfully stated. I enjoyed watching this immensely. Also sure wish I could learn French through a radical and awesome thinker like yourself! Your students are so lucky to have you!
(Im currently learning by myself, teaching myself w total immersion using the AJATT method…)
Anyway, many thanks for sharing your interesting perspective, so on point 👏🏻👏🏻
...my chocking moment : c est toi. , just to have that deep analysis of that show is a big help for me. ....you see I was struggling between 3 versions of what I saw at the Soldier field. So thanks for this
make some video talking about twin peaks, or david lynch movies in general, it would be very interesting...
Another random thing; I recently saw a documentary about Basquiat, which really resonated with everything we know from Kanye, especially the super layered/heavily sampled TLOP. Then I watched something about Rothko and I'm currently listening DONDA while watching Rothko paintings, because somehow I really got that vibe from the listening parties and the sound of the album, and it works so well together. It's really weird to feel this connection between two completely different types of art. But one of Rothko's 'black on maroon' paintings may as well could be the album art as far as Im concerned. It just clicks for me haha
Quality content always
great vid, thanks for actual thoughtful commentary on the art and not reactionary gimmicky stuff
Great vid! Kanye keeps impressing and it's amazing to be alive for this.
Thanks for doing analysis in this way from a high art perspective.
This Ye listening party was an incredible experience. Thanks for the recap!
I doubt that you'll end up seeing this, as it'll end up lost in a maelstrom of comments, but I wanted to thank you for posting all of the great content lately. Your videos have been getting me through a really hard time, and I just wanted to say thank you and wish you well.
I've been a musician and performance artist for several years now, and before I found your channel I thought that I was the only one who viewed Ye as a performance artist as well as a rapper, and your takes are really refreshing. Thanks for putting well-rounded and intelligent, yet accessible and entertaining, content at the forefront of RUclips.
Thanks again.
Thank you too
i love the things u have to say about kanye man, I'd watch ur other videos but u don't do many on ppl I listen to but I watch all ur rap vids. Keep it up, ur take on kanye's works are very interesting
Felt the same way bro. Great insight. You were tuned in to what was going on
Album is finally out. Looking forward to your review!
more KANYE videos please, these are fantastic
Professor getting a 100K plaque soon. I’m calling it
Brilliantly explained 🙏
Good content.
I love your videos on Kanye

The jacket on the back looks really cool
youre gonna be big one day man
(don't know why it's there, but super stoked to see a Marseille sign)
Lmao when he said he ripped the second listening party 😂😂😂😂 me tooo
We need more Kanye videos
The work through each other and with each other is via God.. great insight. ♥️
PT 2 PLSSSS
So much of what happened last night now makes sense to me after realizing the central theme of the event was incarceration into freedom, so thank you for pointing that out here, can't believe i missed that honestly. However I'm still confused about the role donda plays in this theme. Why was her home the object of incarceration in the set design? Why were all of these "guilty" people emerging from said house, the house of the mother kanye loved so very much? What was the significance of emerging from this "jail" with his children to the tune of the incessant "dondas" at the start? Anyways thank you for sharing your thoughts with us once again prof!
The enlightenment of the Black experience in America. The womb of the Black Woman who descended from slavery DNA still transfers that trauma to her children and then we enter the world already mentally ill.
I think the concept of jail and incarceration alludes to past sins more than anything. Part of Kanye felt a lot of guilt and responsibility for his mother’s death. At the same time, I think it also represents where he comes from and the circumstances of black people in America. That narrative is reflected a lot through the song Jesus Lord.
HE DROPPED
praying you review some KA albums
Fucking Great Analysis
Yah but if I could wake up each Friday and listen to the latest version and track listing on Spotify or hi quality playlist on RUclips then maybe it would feel more involved for me as a fan.
Awe I love how much you love Kanye .
Really hoping ye drops a documentary with an explanation from his POV.
To rephrase a lyric: "Say, Ye, say, Ye, don't we do this every few weeks, Ye?"
Iggy Pops the BEST. . I love Kanye & your right, he's the most successful.
👀It wasn’t cheesy it needed to be done he did a great job nice break down.
Watching the throne and prof. Skye collab???
ur a dope professor yo
I'm late to this video, but I wanted to add what shocked me about the performance that I learned about a few days later. Kanye timed the paperwork that officially changed his name to YE to coincide with him being put out from being on fire. So he literally emerged as a brand new person. He truly put a lot of thought into this performance art. I think the implication is that a brand new person could marry Kim, but the old Kanye could never be with her.
goood insights here! point of order -- fire represents the Holy Spirit in scripture, so it may be symbolizing that, or a double entendre.
bro is the coolest professor
Great video! However, I would disagree with what you said at 15:18. While pagan ritual may have used fire more often, the Bible uses fire all through out and means many things. The burning bush in Exodus was where God appeared to Moses. The bush was on fire but not consumed just like Kanye. Isaiah 43:2 days “…when you walk through fire you shall not be burned and the flame will not consume you.” Fire is used to burn sacrifices to God in the Old Testament and then in Daniel Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were in the fire but not consumed. There is also the mention in the Gospels of John bringing a baptism of water, but Jesus and the Holy Spirit bringing a baptism of fire. Many more references occur and most can be interpreted into Kanye’s life and current situation.
Good points
Is Black Thought in your top 5?
True hip hop fans know that having Marilyn Manson was a hard flex on Uzi.
I will forever regret not going to the Chicago listening party :
I get your point, there's just one thing I strongly disagree with: his best rapping you've ever heard? Ever? There's just no way, it's gotta be the hype. He definitely sounds better than Jesus is King though.
Edit*: Yeah, I co-sign you on that one, Jay-Z is the best MC to ever grace a microphone.
Great review! But, Kenye on fire - I see as someone rebirthing. Kim on white dress - I see as the representation of an angel who takes him to a better place.
no way dababy's verse better than jay-z. just the "pray five times a day, so many felonies" (fell on knees) line killed dababy's one.
Your point at 2:50 hits specially after seeing Pusha T post about being removed from the album, pusha gets it too.
I felt the imprisonment since the second one
There’s a couple tweets out there saying he wanted to burn the whole house down, but city of Chicago did not allow it
I am curious though with all due respect, your age Professor? As you mentioned something very interesting regarding being of the exact age to « never take Manson seriously ». I am 35, so the dope show arrived in youth at the exact right time, but those slightly older than me would have had experienced the even cooler more wild eta of Manson aka the mid 90s antichrist superstar stuff. He truly was so ahead of his time, so intelligent and I always thought a true stage, visual, and auditory artist. I am saddened by what’s happened and even more sad should the allegations be true (but no one knows the truth but them, let’s not forget du process here)… anyway, just found that comment intriguing! Great video.
I respectfully disagree with basically all of your comment, though I do agree he is intelligent. I was around when he dropped in the mid 90s and everyone thought he was a joke who created his whole eDgYlOrD persona bc he was BIG THIRSTY for attention. Trust, literally no one was fooled by his attempt to be SuPeR sCaRy lol. His music is equivalent to his persona - all shock, little substance. If your music speaks for itself, you shouldn’t need to “shock” people to get your music attention by dressing like a teenager who only shops at hot topic. The music should itself create the buzz. I mean, Kanye got his first record deal bc he made a name for himself by producing some of hip-hop’s absolute classics. He established himself as a musician before he developed as a performance artist. And please, please take a minute to educate yourself on MM and the stories of not only the multiple women he has disgustingly abused, but also on the many, many stories that show what an absolutely disgusting “human” he has always been. Not to be rude, but you saying that it would be “sad” (for whom?) if the allegations are true seems like you are minimizing the serious physical, emotional, and psychological abuse and trauma he inflicted and see who he really is and always has been - an insecure man-baby who didn’t get enough attention as a kid. Maybe start with Evan Rachel woods account of their relationship. supporting known abusers is a really bad look.
i think at the of the show YE goes on flame died and the lady in white its DONDA...and YE smile cuz he can see hes mother again in the after life
One question, in your last video about Kanye you mentioned that he is "
the most influential human being in the realm of both music and fashion", why do you think this is the case? I too love Kanye and think he's the best artist of our generation but I'm curious as to why you think he's the most influential person in both fashion and music.
No disrespect but this again americans confusing the world with the USA.
@@warnaoh Not sure if you're talking about me or Prof. Skye but if you are talking about me I'm not American...
Imo Kanye is extremely influential in fashion. Before he was even a rapper, he made bold stylistic choices that his peers wouldn't. Instead of wearing streetwear, Kanye would choose a polo or an LV backpack. He would wear Bape with Pharrell and high fashion suits. He definitely didn't dress like the rappers around him. And as his music influence grew so did his clothing. Whatever Kanye wore, the brands grew. Some examples would be making the Shutter Shades pop on Graduation, Margiela pop on Yeezus or Givenchy pop on Watch The Throne. Everyone was tuning into what he wore and it was probably the best publicity a brand can ever get. Kanye also had a hand in a lot of fashion victories that aren't credited. It's hard to sum them all up in the comments. But eventually Kanye was tired or being limited by brands on what he can or can't do. And he was also tired of brands making money off his creativity without any reward. So he started his own fashion line. But Kanye was snubbed by the high fashion industry for years. They rejected him and hated on his first runway. No one showed up to Yeezy season one and the media just dragged him. But through a series of hardworking that I won't go into detail, he build an infrastructure that allow him to soar. He owns 100% of Yeezy and the sales are booming. His TLOP merch forever changed how mercy is viewed or sold. His Yeezy designs are unique and futuristic. And ninfluenceperspectiveworthAdidascollaboratorsdidn'thim
@@kelvinleung6746 No one said he wasnt one of the most influential. But the most ? You really have to be one of his stan or american to say that. I didnt know 90% of what you wrote and everyone around me I know from France, Spain or Morocco is the same. We know him for his music, the "slave"choice, being married to a Kardashian and that's it (not saying we are right or that's all he is, but it is what it is).
@@warnaoh a lot of people do know of his other endeavors not just the music
@watchingthethrone lol

I wonder if having all those people running and having all the cars surrounding the house could be a symbolic representation of paranoia. As in, they are authority figures that always keep an eye on Kanye and restrict his freedom.
Hi, Professor Skye! Please react to Halsey's new album "If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power". It was produced by the Nine Inch Nails, and it definitely is one of the best albums made this 2021 💛
Great video 👏🏻 learned a lot new about art and performance. New subscriber. But I am doubting your thoughts about Kanye burning himself as a reborn without Jesus. It doesn't go along with lyrics in his Donda album songs. But fire represents multiple things in Bible. One of the youngest of fire in the Pentecostal day, could it be that Kanye as Christian showed that he is overtaken by Holy Spirit fire that he can forgive with wife & other people who were connected with his mother's death? 🤷🏻♂️Fire in Bible is about cleansing process of a person's heart as well 🙌🏻 fire is not bad in Bible except Gods consuming fire or lake of fire
I think that the woman on stage was also pretty shocking
How you didn’t talk about globgabgab
I somehow missed it.
@@professorskye no problem dude you are one of the coolest professors I’ve ever seen keep up the good work
KILL BILL VIBES
Don’t think yachty was talking about abuse
"Tell me if you know someone that needs Jesus........Lord!"
1 Corinthians 1:26-31,
26 Consider your own call, brothers and sisters: not many of you were wise by human standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; 28 God chose what is low and despised in the world, things that are not, to reduce to nothing things that are, 29 so that no one might boast in the presence of God. 30 He is the source of your life in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption, 31 in order that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”
Also the house has more value to ye cause that was his old childhood home
Can you please review playboi Carti self titled.
My question to you is this Skye; What could Kanye do to lose you as a fan? I love your passion as a fan. I'm glad I can get my Kanye news from you, but I will not support him after this "Chicago". Platforming people who are abusers and homophobes is kind of my limit. Keep up the good work and look forward to your next video.
Manson has such an interesting and amazing discography and is so smart as an artist. One of the greatest!
I truly agree with this sentiment.
Jay Z #1? I got Nas on the throne
Notorious BIG was the best rapper
Kanye is a better rapper than Jay Z and so is Lauren Hill in my opinion
Jay z is r kellys mate and has no right digging Ye out anyway, good riddance.
The performance was beautiful…
except for when Marilyn Manson showed up that was embarrassing for Kanye to support that monster and it makes it worse that Marilyn looked bored the entire time and didn’t even have a feature on the album
he did. he's in the background of Jail
DANTES INFERNO. BEATRICE = KIM
brother I love you, but never say "acts of homophobia" ever ever agian. GODBLESS.
This whole Donda thing is startin to feel boring. I dont even want the album I just wish he would stfu
