  • Believe it or not, rainy weather can have a negative impact on you and your rifle. Something I learned in this weeks video is how a little bit of rain in the chamber can change the pressure and ultimately affect your shot, so keeping everything dry and maintained is pretty important. Today Ryan McLean goes over some essential gear that he uses when shooting in the rain.

    ▬ About MDT ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
MDT was born out of a single purpose: to provide better value and better accuracy for precision rifles. The first MDT chassis was developed from the ground up based on the needs of shooters.
Our engineers verified every function and feature based on the input from competitive shooters. The end result was a game-changing product called the TAC21 that continues to perform at the range, in the field and in competitions around the world.
Today, MDT chassis, magazines and accessories are still developed the same way.
We collaborate, question and verify our concepts with precision shooters from around the globe to ensure that every MDT product is designed with the same single purpose: to provide our customers with the absolute best product possible.

If you get rain in your barrel or chamber, how do you dry them ??

However, you can, whether it's blowing them out or using a patch to do it.

Stainless steel is just that, steel that stains LESS. Often confused with stain-proof, which isn't the case.

Well as a machinist, I would have to argue it depends on which type of SST.
To become real SST it must contain 11% or more Chrome (Cr) in the mix, under that level, it is not considered real SST, it will eventualy rust.
For gun barrels, typically it's 400 series that is used (magnetic) or 316-Also known as "marine" grade stainless, as it resists corrosion well because of added molybdenum but is not easy to harden. 316 woukd be used in trigger guards and floorplates.
17-4 is a stainless steel n alloy with 17 percent chromium and 4 percent nickel. 17-4 (or a close kin) is readily hardened and is used in barrels, bolts and receivers.
Also used: 416-R Stainless Steel is "stainless" steel formulated specifically for gun barrels. 416-R is "stainless" in name only, as it is still susceptible to corrosion but at a reduced pace compared to common steel, like you said. Where common "416" gets brittle at freezing temperatures, 416-R is formulated to function in arctic conditions (typically recommended to -40 F). It is ideal for high-precision applications, as the free-machining characteristics of the material are excellent for creating high-definition rifling. 416-R is commonly used where high accuracy is required.
On the other hand, 304 and 316 series SST are pretty common high quality grades (non-magnetic) used for anything from pharmaceutical to food industries and they won't rust.
The only thing that can make it rust is if it has been heated very high like with torches, then it will lose its proprieties because the molecules have been altered.
Of course, putting a rusted piece of steel on a 304 or 316 SST part will stain it like it has rusted itself, but when using a scratch pad like 3M, it should come back shiny and well.
Think about a sink for instance. Even regularly wet, it does not rust. That is usually 304 stainless and it won't rust.
We often see common cheap household items that are supposedly "stainless", like some trash cans or toothbrush holders, but all they are is clear coated grinded steel sheets. The minute the clear coat is gone because of a scratch, it will rust. This is a fraud to me... But the price would be much higher if it was real SST.

.....anyone seal primers & bullet/case-neck junction, I have learned to do this if weather is going to be bad & for all of hunting, because I don't hunt out of blinds & vehicles, my Rifle & I are exposed to the elements & I might be camping out hunting for 2 weeks at a time, & worse than the water is the oils & solvents from cleaning the weapon nightly, &, of course, my Rifle is loaded at ALL times.
