    The best thing about Akai right now is the second hand market. I bought a great condition MPC X for $750 (a price I haven't seen again). Sure, I'd love the added power of 2 extra gig, but this was a MASSIVE upgrade to my Live 1.

    I personally believe that the MPC 5000 was truly the last Hardcore Flagship MPC with the “Converters” that EA-Ski brought to everyone’s attention recently this year. Every MPC after it from the “Renaissance” to the “MPC X SE” are just shells of what the MPC 5000 and before were!(Maybe leaving the Akai Force as an exception because it’s a beast!) A lot of Akai’s stuff became more of MPC pad controllers instead of true “Standalone” MPCs after the MPC 5000. They jumped on the software train and became more and more digital with each installment losing a lot of that analog warmth and bang that all us “Old Heads” love. Now Akai just reel in the “Gas Heads” with the next shiniest thing with pads every year it seems. That’s probably why they are quick to stop production on recent products like the “MPC One and X”. Because they are “Only For The Moment” products! Once they’re gone or no one is buying them. They move on to the next thing! I’m glad I got my MPC 5000 along with Akia MPC XR-20 back in 2010. I thought it was the latest and greatest then. But I didn’t realize it would be the latest and greatest now. As much as I like my MPC Live II and Akai Force. They don’t hit harder than my MPC 5000! Akai has been corporately taken over in my honest opinion and focuses more on sales now instead of long lasting quality products. That’s probably why the “Akai Force” was my last buy from them! Native Instruments seems to be doing the same thing now. Either way Dyreck, keep doing your thang dog! I like your channel. “What Had Happened Waaasss!”

      I have no idea why people say untrue things. Not a single person touted the sound of the MPC 5000 when it was released. The MPC 5000 is one of the worst MPCs ever created...support for it was dropped almost immediately. Hell..Akai decided to stop producing hardware MPCs after that disaster.
      Anyone crying about the sound of new MPCs today is silly (especially in a era where much of the music you hear, for better or for worst, was not created using an MPC). You can connect any USB class compliant interface and have a sound that is equal to or better than any MPC.

    • @Robeazy1000
      @Robeazy1000 6 месяцев назад

      @@JeronimoFury You said Akai dropped support for the MPC 5000 almost immediately after its release. Yeah, just like they’re doing with the MPC X and the MPC One today! Akai has never supported a product for long. Especially if it doesn’t sell well. And as far as most of today’s music not being created using MPCs. You’ve proven my point exactly because most of today’s music sucks. I’m not saying that MPCs are the magic that music is missing. I just think that Akai’s MPCs were a lot more solid as far as build quality when it comes to the MPC 5000 and before. We could argue all day long as far as sound quality. You like your MPCs. I like mine. No big deal. As far as the MPC 5000 not getting any stamps of approval when it came out. You better check again homie. Both Havoc(Mobb Deep) and EA-Ski gave the MPC 5000 the seal of approval.

      I love my Dirtywave M8, that thing is revolutionary. Sampling, sample chopping, disk streaming, tons of polyphony, and lots of different synths all running on a $40 Teensy chip. It really goes to show what you can do with a small team and sensible design philosophy. It also makes the Polyend tracker look under-powered (similar price to the M8 but less polyphony, no synth engines, no stereo samples, and no disk streaming).

      I spent my tracker days in the 90s wishing I had a MIDI setup with "real" synths and samplers, and it's still wild to me that standalone trackers are even a thing. In retrospect, I get it. I've never reached the productivity levels I had when I was tracking with anything else. Most of that is youthful exuberance and energy, but the tracker workflow walks a weird knife edge between music and computer programming, and that can be efficiently exploited by amenable minds. As it stands I would want to prove to myself I can still rock impulse / schismtracker and then renoise before shelling out bucks for a standalone hardware device...
      As far as scratching surfaces, maybe we could get a "what had happened" on the Yamaha DJX-IIb?

  • @187onasimp

    I don't think they got rid of them. They just did some minor updates and released them as new models to breathe new life into them. Those patents and such costs money and time. Before they shift production over into a new model entirely there's a lot that goes into that. I understand why they might add this or that and just tweak designs a bit so that they don't have to file for all new patents on something they're already selling. They've got an entirely new MPC in the works but we may not see it till 2026 or 2027 even. Some of the stuff we see added or updated on these models might be ideas they've put into the new model and just incorporated into the current model designs.

      Same but inMusic Brand/AKAI are strictly focused on doing hardware refreshes at this point. Very little innovation with the MPC Software because AKAI seems to think that mostly everyone has the MPCs with standalone and not the Touch, Ren and Studio.
      For context: Serato Studio 2 has already beat MPC Software in adding VST3 support plus more than 4 FX slots per Pads, Tracks, Programs, MasterBus etc. It's kinda sad to see Andy Mac post videos using an MPC but still needing an external DAW like StudioOne or Logic to finish mixing and mastering instead of having the ability to do everything inside the box. Other DAWs are really leaning in with the Stem separation and AI Mastering tools.
      Honestly, MPC Users need to be more vocal about this cause they're just going to continue this trend if everyone just buys into whatever mediocre products they put out without question.

    Perfect timing for Roland to release a box that does all that the SE does with 64 audio tracks capabilities, 10 terabytes of storage space, advanced converters perhaps incorporated tunes specifically designed towards enhanced warmth and perhaps an integrated 20 inch amoled touch screen with fully automated 24 sliders array using a stacked 4 layer button press structure and automated rotary controlled visible onscreen movements and lighted movement increase on the Control "Ro-Links" knobs!!
    Also an internal card structure to swap out track structures and advanced electronics that would ensure that unit would NEVER be discontinued nor obsolete..Ever!!

      Yeah I kind of feel like it highlights how little competition the mpc's truly have. If you made a features list and compared it to every other standalone hardware sampler being manufactured currently there is nothing that could possibly compare to all the options it affords it's users. What other machine has both virtual synth engines, and a whole suite of effects, USB host ports that you can plug in a powered USB hub to, and you can plug in an audio interface and a multitrack USB mixer, Ableton link, CV/gate outs, touch screen, extremely deep sequencer with probability, ratcheting, sample playback operations, (4 samples per pad, can be set to random, round robin, and based on velocity input actually the amount of parameters that can be affected by the MPC community) playback modes (one shot, pad on, pad off,)
      And I suspect that they will keep using this operating system when they do finally bring out a truly more powerful MPC, because it's built on Linux, why would they spend money developing a whole new operating system from the ground up when they can just keep iterating on this one just running on more powerful hardware?

    • @donnydarko7624
      @donnydarko7624 9 месяцев назад

      I was looking at the specs of all the workstation keyboards available on the market though because if you go and look at like the Yamaha mod X, and the Korg Kronos, and the Kurzweil 2700 they are pretty much the closest things on the market feature-wise to the MPC's.
      I think if Yamaha wanted to seeing how they just came out with new finger drumming machines, that they probably have the best chance of holding their own through taking the modx operating system and modifying it for the purposes of giving modern day composers the most powerful set of tools in a standalone groove box form factor that answers the call of professional producers for a more comprehensive centerpiece for their hardware needs.

    I have both an original X and an original One.
    The only upgrade to the X was more RAM and the only upgrade to the One was built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. To be honest, I think Akai dropped the ball in 2020 by releasing the MPC One without Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Those features should have been included from the start. With that said, I like the black color scheme and yellow buttons of the original MPC One much better than the new red color scheme and white buttons on the new One.
    As far as the MPC X SE goes, there really are no physical hardware button changes or input output jack option changes whatsoever. The physical unit looks exactly the same as the original MPC X with the exception of the color scheme. With that said, I think it was alright for Akai to update the MPC X. However, I don't necessarily agree with the way they went about it. In my opinion, I think Akai should have either just offered a hardware memory upgrade option for those who want the 4GBs of RAM, even if that meant the upgrade would be expensive and require a motherboard swap, or just release a newer MPC X but called it a "MkII" version or "II" version (like the NPC 60 II, for example) with 4GBs of RAM as standerd but kept the original black color-scheme with white type-face. In addition, Akai could have still offered a Special Edition with the retro color scheme for those who want that as well, just like they did with the Gold version.
    I think the next flagship MPC won't be called "X" at all and ut would most likely be something totally different and much more advanced.
    So to conclude, I like the updates Akai made to the MPC X and MPC One. They were needed in order to keep up with technology as well as their software that is becoming more advanced with every update. However , I like the "look" of the original MPC X and One better. I just wish Akai kept that. Maybe Akai could have kept the black color-scheme for the new MPC X but changed the red side panels to grey (like the ones on the MPC X SE). That would've been dope.

    I loved my One, but they should have a higher spec version. While there's nothing wrong with it, it just felt slow compared to my PC. I understand that's not a fair comparison. But I'd gladly pay more for a faster model. I know it could happen, everything FLIES on my iPhone 14 Pro, My One just felt like it was just a little too slow. a CPU upgrade, and double the ram it would be like a totally new beast.
    With that said. The MPC One's a superb machine, I was disappointed when they dropped the plus and it was mostly the same. The internal storage bump was probably really nice for a lot of people, but I always use an SDcard. $1k for a blazing fast One with 8GB of ram and 32gb of storage would be DOPE dope, hell even 4GB of ram would be nice.

    Sold my One a few months back, could see this coming. Also people are hoping that software update 13 will bring so much more improvements but I don't buy it - those boxes are too limited I will wait for the next gen. Alarms should have went off when flex beat and spectral processing they gave us but said 'not in standalone.' Meanwhile DAW producers are using spectral dynamics, stem separation, and sampling software like Serato, MPC users still pray for a real side chain. They need to hit the drawing board, improve the software or the hardware in a major way. Next Gen please....

    • @kvmoore1
      @kvmoore1 8 месяцев назад +2

      I get your point if you're trying to use your MPC as if it was a DAW. However, I use my MPC mostly for sampled drums and as a centerpiece sequencer for an all-hardware setup. Therefore, drum sampler and sequencer functions are the most important features to me. With that said, the effects plugins, mixing engine, and the 2GBs of RAM found inside these newer MPCs are miles above anything from the previous generation of hardware MPCs, making these machines more capable then ever of accomplishing the task of the older MPCs ("MIDI Production Center"). On top of that, you can use USB to expand your MIDI and audio I/O. This really is incredible for hardware users.
      If there are any software improvements that could be made, it would be related to sequencer and workflow, because there are some functions and workflow features found in older units that were omitted in this current generation of MPCs for some reason. Other than that, the only other thing I can see them improving on would be sound quality. Perhaps Akai should beef up their converters and use more high-end components for the analog inputs and outputs in their flagship models, such as the X.
      As they are, these current MPCs are fine machines depending on how you use them. It’s also understandable that these particular MPCs, or any MPC for that matter may not be the right machine for everyone.

    It seems to me that the One+ and X SE are simply Mark I or "S" (iPhones) spec bumps introduced to take advantage of increasingly affordable CPU & memory improvements. Especially for the flagship MPC X, it wouldn't make any sense to release other MPCs (One, Keys, Live II, Studio) and give them more RAM for example than the flagship - so they had to update the X with more memory unless they were going to stunt the whole family for no reason. The Live II speakers were a big deal ofc, idk if it would have been possible for them to do an upgrade kit for the One like the SP-808 to SP-808ex? Its like when Apple quietly bumps up the specs in between re-designs. You didn't mention who you think is on Akai's heals....

    Your content is typically on point, educational and entertaining... However - this title feels more like clickbait because they haven't gotten "rid" of either unit... actually what they did was update/upgrade the units internals to fully serve what they were marketing - a true standalone experience... you make it seem as if they've abandoned the form factor and/or operating system which isn't true since the X SE and ONE+ are both available... the MPC X SE is selling for $2500 which made the X start selling for $1700 (brand new at retailers)... that price point was too close to the Live 2 which is $1300... and the ONE+ for $700
    I do understand that there are some hardcore AKAI enthusiast that buy every MPC either because they're a collector various different workflows - but they are are and the exception
    With that being said you start to see a pricing issue above between the XSE, X and Live 2 which also conflicts with the marketing...
    Dropped implies a major change in form factor and components like going from the 60 to 3000... 3000 to 2000/2000xl.... 2000 to 4000 and etc

    The new MPC's X/Live/One are all trash. Terrible sound. Rossum SP 1200 is the real deal, great sound.
