Hey L C A typical decanter it's for short term use. You pour your bottle of wine into it and within 12- 24 hours you should have poured your wine out of it. Cleaning the typical decanter it's for those times that the wine, particularly red wine, has been in it too long. Baccarat's are typically used for spirits and long term or longer-term use. If you're going to replace the type or brand of spirit going into your Baccarat then by all means use one of the recommended cleaning elements and procedures. Make sure you use added caution because you're working with Crystal rather than Glass. Let me know how it turns out. Cheers!! Pierre
Full disclosure; we received a lovely crystal decanter as a wedding present 26 years ago but neglected it and it's been stained for many years. I had given up hope of being able to clean it but I just watched your video and used egg shells and water because that is what I had to hand. 25-30 minutes of swirling later and it looks brand new! Thank you so much. I will take better care of it from now on.
Wine is very finicky, especially reds...Decanting, aeration, serving temperatures, storage - all those are so important to enjoying this wonderful liquid! This video is a fantastic resource for learning how to choose and take care for a wine decanter. Very nicely done. Thank you!
Thank you for this Sir! I'd let water sit in my decanter previously for too long and as my water is poor quality (hard), it left a stain - aside of the tannins on the bottom. Tonight I thought a natural washing up liquid would shift it but despite rinsing over and over again, it didn't work and the resultant effect on a small amount of my Corbières which I had already tasted from the bottle, was absolutely horrifying. I am extremely sensitive to the effects of foreign matter in my wine, I have an excellent palate, demonstrably better than the Sommelier of a nearby exclusive 5 star hotel with Michelin restaurant, based in Sussex, England that hosted a G20 summit a few years back. I taught him the problems with their boutique wine delivery system which was imparting a taste into the wines, during a private tasting session in their cellar on my birthday. I did consider using Organic Apple Cider Vinegar, the only variety in my kitchen but thought it inappropriate, especially as I was in a hurry. Big mistake. Do you reckon that would be ok?
I found air drying my Decanter the inside would water spot. So I tried pouring distilled water inside and swirling for the last rinse and no more water spots.
Thank you Pierre for the detailed steps and information, and the humour. These are so important details. Wine handling is an art indeed. I wish you were around during my waitressing years! If I had stayed in the business I would have leaned towards becoming a sommelier..I had thought about it! However wellness; fitness and sound relaxation were a higher calling for me, and so it is. Thank you for the background on the subject as well ;-) You have a new subscriber :-)
I accidentally used soap and water to clean mine before I realized. should I now throw it out? I'm going to reclean it white vinegar and sea salt. Do you think it will be ok. I don't notice the glass being dull. what should I do?
What if someone has cleaned the decanter with soap up to know ? It is necessary to buy a new decanter or is it also okay to sacrifice 1-2 cheap bottles of wine to get the soap tastes out of it ? :)
How do you clean your decanter?
In college someone told me “alcohol kills germs so there’s no need to clean a shot glass or anything that holds alcohol ever” 🤮

Will this work for water spots on a Baccarat decanter?

This is the exactly why I haven’t purchased a wine decanter. I never knew how to clean it!!

Nice channel buddy! We love red wine!❤️❤️❤️
Great channel. Red wine is pretty much the only alcohol I drink, so very useful here.
Thanks Pierre for another great video - and this one is being shared.
Great info. It would work with a lot of things around the home.
I do not have a decanter! Yet this is great information! I will have to share with my sister who loves wine!
Thanks!!
Much appreciated!!

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 El hielo fue perfecto
Gracias!!
Eggshells are a godsend when it comes to deep and thin neck decanters. They really work wonders!

Wonderful. Thank for sharing. You have beautiful videos, contents. Some more SEO can make this channel great! I love it

I just purchased a decanter directly from Baccarat. I better watch every millisecond of this video. 😅

So if there is no stains in my crystal whiskey decanter will rinsing with hot water suffice?
Yes and no..... it depends on what was last in it. It should be fine!! you'll want to let it air dry ..... preferably upside down.
When drying your decanter it should be canted!
Empty and Rinse

Lmao
1 minute and 27 seconds in and I'm losing the will! Rambling and slow. I want to know immediately without the preamble.
True, you actually have to suffer up to 2:50 just to begin the discussion of cleaning !
Really wish you’d just get to the point!
Only theory and no practical
