Thanks for the tip with the ice and salt, just what I was looking for and it worked great. Didnt want to buy anything for the once every year the decanter needs a thorough clean. My decanters neck was too narrow for ice cubes so I just prepared iced water and used that. Im presuming the ice is only used to keep the salt from dissolving for a bit longer, anyways. I am a bit sceptical about the use of vinegar leaving and odour in the glassware.
And after that just store it, the last bit of residual water will just evaporate by itself in a matter of hours. There are also special stands to drain decanters, for the clumsy ones among us.

The ice helps with causing more agitation to get the sticky stains. But yeah, same thing the salt does

Leave it upside down in a drain tray is what we do and let it air dry
