If you think about it, the fate of the entire universe was put on Goten and Trunks' shoulders in the Boo arc, before Gohan and Vegetto came into play.

Goku deliberately put Goten and Trunks up to fight the galaxy-destroying, god-killing Buu even though he admitted that he could've beaten Buu. I don't think he'd really consider whether someone'd have the maturity to fight for their universe,

Seriously, they don't know what the hell you want. Also, Goten and Trunks are kids, no way their mother would allow them to fight in such a huge tournament so don't try it.
do it within reason of the lore not just because. it would be cool to throw roshi in as a coach for goku like this is ippo but as a fighter roshi is worthless in this multiversal scope. tien is a nice inclusion since he is a hardcore warrior.. not sure about krillin since he made a point to give up fighting. it would have to be about the delivery. they cant just go whos down and people raise their hands.
strategy wise, roshi is a terrible pick. i dont even think he can fly.
if they structure the tournament like yyh dark tournament it should be good. but more than likely this arc isnt going to end with a tournament. somethings gonna happen.

They could have pulled in a fighter from the afterlife (and expand on their story), a defeated villain (a chance at redemption, or even betrayal), or a total unknown from some other place in the universe (introduce a brand new character and species). All these options are more powerful and interesting than Roshi or Tien. I'm only giving Krillin a pass because, story reasons; I think him nd 18 working together would be cool to see.

I like that line up. But would be funny to see Golden Freeza again and Cell there to. Because they can use the plot to force that villains to fight in tournament since the fact if the universe is destroyed, they got destroyed to. And others guys like Dabura, king piccolo, android 16, nappa, raditz, Captain Ginyu. But of course they need to use canon characters, to make sense.
Dabura did turn into a good guy, so that would make sense.
Plus, if you have Golden Frieza, you can have Frieza vs Frost, which I, as a fan, *D E S P E R A T E L Y* want to see.

Beerus could force him to partake in the tournament, similar to how Goku was allowed to take place in the 25th Tenkaichi Budokai. He would *have* to work with Goku or else be destroyed by Beerus. This could lead into some great comedy and very tense drama.
If Cell did come back and learned that the universe would be destroyed unless he helped, he'd get into the team and just sabotage the living shit out of it, just so he can have the last laugh.

J-TAR Cell will more likely than not want to fight, remember Cell motivation is to not just be perfect but show it off, hence the cell games, he wants to show how much stronger he is than everyone else, there is no way he'd willingly throw a fight.

Actually, having Cell on the team would be interesting. I’m already looking forward to the interaction between Krillin, 18 and 17, but then add Cell to the mix. Forced to ‘work together’, this could lead to some humorous moments, but could also make for darker storylines, tension within the team, considering that he absorbed 17 and 18, killed (however briefly) Future Trunks, Goku (for a bit longer) and was the one who made Gohan let loose.
Also would have been a nice little call-back if Gohan was struggling in the tournament (I have a feeling with the way he’s being handled, that is going to happen) and Cell managed to enrage him enough to really get into the right spirit again, or something like that.
As for recruiting him….

Maybe he said no. He got the shit beat out of him in a baseball game with these people, why would he subject himself to a tournament where they're actually SUPPOSED to be fighting him.
Also Yamcha always had bad luck in tournaments.
Got easily beaten by Roshi in the 21st Budokai
got his leg broken by tien in the 22nd Budokai
got humiliated by Kami in the 23rd Budokai
got almost killed by Cell jr. during the Cell Games
He did not even want to participate in the tournament before the Buu saga
The only important tournament fight he won (not counting preliminaries) was against the Invisible Man in Fortuneteller Baba's tournament, but he then almost died from getting his back broken and tossed into acid by Bandages the Mumie.
kami aka GOD also praised Yamcha's skill, Krillin could barley handle chiaotzu so he would have gotten destroyed if the fights were flipped and many forget krillin lost against the weakest of baba's fighters and yamcha nearly killed Bandages by knocking him off the platform

Kami praised Yamcha but said that his fighting style is still flawed because of too many unnecessary movements. The tournament where Krillin fought Chiaotzu was three years before that and Krillin had trouble because he was unprepared for Chiaotzu's psychic abilities and the fact that Chaiotzu could fly and Krillin did not, BUT he still won despite being at a dissadvantage.
Yeah he lost to Fangs but that was because his bald head was an easy attacking target for a vampire and because Goku made fun of Krillin that he got angry and lost too much blood. While Bandages was just too strong for Yamcha even if he managed to put him at the edge he still lost because he was too weak. Also lets not forget that Piccolo was impressed by Krillin at the 23rd Budokai and even felt a sense of fear for a little bit at after seeing how strong a human could become

BRING BACK 16, he's stronger than 17 and has a bigger fanbase, plus there's the emotional connection to 18, Krillen and Gohan.
Rebuilding him would still require a wish to restore his memories though, that or BS about them having had a wifi connection to him during the cell games so they had a copy of his memories right upto his death XD

Since it's a universal tournament, and the writing staff is plausibly going to have to introduce over 100 combatants in the tournament, I'd say that introducing new characters and using episodes for brief back story wouldn't be out of the question. Seeing as how Universe 6 is the sort of mirror to Universe 7, why not look elsewhere in the universe other than Earth for fighters? Why not find Universe 7's equivalent to Universe 6's Hit?

Imagine if there was a Universe 7 version of Hit. Like a soft time rewinder. He can rewind time on himself or a specific target. So he could rewind themself to remove wounds and also rewind someone to and they can rewind someone by 5 seconds and they also forget about the 5 seconds.
A sort of Cell-redemption would be interesting. Despite the Freeza influence, it's worth remembering that he *also* shares the cells of a lot of the good guys.
Also MasakoX, adding Olibu and Pikkon would be dumb, seeing as even Yamcha got strong enough to beat them both simultaneously in the buu saga

I actually think that Dabura should replace Olibu. His Stone Spit would be a GREAT trump card for Universe 7, and he'd be a far more interesting character than Olibu. What better combatant than the King of the Demons?

What about Dabura? He reformed after his death was just as strong as Perfect Cell , so he would fill Cell's slot on your team, and I think Yemma would be more inclined to let him come back to life than Cell who remained evil after death

The problem with Dabura is he's actively being used in other media in either person or as motivation, such as in Heroes and Xenoverse. If we brought back him, there'd likely be an uproar for Towa.

Nope, honestly this team makes zero sense. Roshi being there makes no goddamn sense, it´s like you´re throwing a bug into a fight with Dinosaurs. Even Chiaotzu is way above him, even the average warrior Namekians are far more powerful than Roshi. And why the hell are humans like Krillin and
Roshi on the team instead of Trunks and Goten? We are talking about the kids who were trained to fight against buu.

Goten and Trunks are not so experienced when it comes to fgihting, even against Buu they were just screwing around. They are not good fighters, plus, without fusion they are pretty weak, even tien and krillin are more experienced than them. Goten and Trunks are kids and no matter how high are the stakes, they will just screw everything up.
Yamcha the wolf Frieza was only scared of Beerus and Buu so it makes sense tbh.
I really like you idea of Cell. It's different from the typical villain returning with a new form and big fight. Instead, to become a good guy. Or at least Neutral. I'd like to see that happen. Although, it would be interesting too if Vegeta wished Nappa back to life. Maybe make up for his harsh past. Hell, Nappa would be a great addition to the fighters. Maybe not the tournament, since he's weak, but in future fights. Hell, Nappa has the potential to become really strong.
Masako, will you be reviewing the Dragon Ball Super Dubs? I'm well aware that you have missed the earlier episodes of DBS but I would like to hear your thoughts on them and the English Dubs and whether or not the anime company made changes to the animation after the Episode 5 controversy.

I freaking love the character. One of my all-time favorite DB characters ever.
He was so freaking fun in DB. He was getting surpassed by his best friend and he still stood by his side in Z. And by the side of his son. He basically was one of the main characters during the Namek saga. He led the whole Namekian expedition. He was calling the shots when the shit hit the fan.
Fuckin right. I hope he gets a few good moments to shine before they have him beaten senseless to give the characters a grudge against someone.
I feel the same. My favourite is Tien, but Krillin in DB was just great. I wished they would have kept his cocky personality. Krillin fights were always interesting because he was never the strongest but the smartest of the fighters, so he kept up by tricking his opponents (like how he nearly kicked Roshi out of the tournament with panties, how he beat Chao-Zu with math, how he even managed to give goku a lot of trouble by playing dirty in their fight)
I agree. Krillin is one of the best fighters in the team. Despite his lower strength, he is still willing to try! :)
The fact that he gets shit on so much in the anime/manga and still sticks around is a testament to how badass the guy is. I mean, most of the others lose their shit when they fight someone stronger than them. Vegeta and Yamcha in particular... Krillin? Sure he gets intimidated, but he keeps going anyway. Not falling to his knees like Vegeta with Broly >>
Well he made a Ki attack capable of harming someone LEAGUES stronger than him, cutting Freiza's Tail off with it too. May not have worked on Cell, but even doing that to Freiza at his level is insane.
Hell no. It just emphasises how much Goten never does anything. Why the hell is Master Roshi in the tournament but not Goten or Trunks? They're stronger than fucking Frieza. I get that Toriyama had to make Trunks a character because of Future Trunks, but why would he make Goten if he's never going to let him do anything?

Re-introducing Cell for the tournament would've pleased plenty of fans and could actually lead to some drama within the Universe 7 Team as 18 & 17 would certainly protest against his recruitment. Perhaps it also could've been a chance for Cell to redeem himself like Majin Buu.
I'll be honest, bringing back Cell would've been awesome. And your justification for it makes so much sense, I'm genuinely stunned.

It's strange that Universe 7 is represented with fighters from only one planet. I know in the Universe 6 Tournament arc it was the same, minus Monaka, but with the roster slots expanded to 10 fighters, I'm sure someone in the entirety of the universe is stronger than some of these characters, or are characters like Krillin, Master Roshi, and Tien really stronger than anyone else in the universe that could have been included in the team? And while I'm at it, I wonder what Beerus's excuse to Goku will be for Monaka not being in the tournament.

Her power is far from infinite: She's weak to magic (she's been defeated by it twice in the manga) and her fuel source only lasts for so long before she powers down and stops moving (Her N'Cha Cannon drains it all the faster), meaning then anyone can just blow her up or chuck her into a black hole where she'll remain forever since no one will be around to refuel her (Arale running out of power in a crucial moment HAS happened in the manga)
I do think the return of Cell as a temporary ally would be interesting. Earlier in Super, we had the return of Freeza, the supposed climax of Super could bring back Cell as an ally of sorts, and if the end of Z is canonical to Super, then the series ends with the reincarnation of Kid Buu as a new hero.

Commenting way after the fact, I'd have replaced Roshi and Tenshinhan with Goten and Trunks. I feel like it would've pushed their characters forward in some interesting ways. Maybe real stakes are what they needed, after all, Gohan was about their age in the cell games and he was put up to a major challenge. If Toei and Toriyama had gone that route, it could've instilled in the characters and us as an audience that Goten and Trunks are the future of Universe 7, whether they want to be or not. There would've been so many fun moments, too! Father/son kamehamehas and galick guns, Goten and Trunks splitting up and fighting on their own for a bit, Gotenks vs. Kefla, there's so much wasted potential!
I think we will be seeing 16 return somehow. Toriyama randomly gave 17 and 18 names in an interview recently, and now they are in the story, and he also randomly gave 16 some back story, so I think 16 will be back.

Pretty sure when Goten and Trunks fought Super Buu it was also the "fight for the universe". So clearly when things get too dire they would have fought regardless of circumstances. Granted they didn't have much of a choice in Buu Saga. But I really dont think they have the liberty to opt out of this as the fate of their entire universe rests on this tournament. They may be kids but they are much more stronger than Roshi and Tien. Considering the stakes of this tournament, leaving Goten and Trunks out the team (thereby not having the best team possible for this "crisis") is pure idiocy and is clearly a marketing strategy (which annoys but I can still respect that somewhat).
So your argument that Goten and Trunks wouldn't be able to handle the pressure seems a bit weak to me.

I know that they fused. I meant that it was still their decision to participate in the battle by accepting to learn the fusion dance. They agreed to the fusion so that they could fight Buu. The fate of the universe was in their hands and they didn't back out. THATS why I said that they can handle extreme pressure like that.

Frieza was considered the most powerful being in Universe 7, excluding asleep Majin Buu and Beerus. Considering he managed to hold the entire universe by its balls for decades means that there aren't many fighters on his level. Power level of 18,000 was considered an elite battle power so I am not suprised entire team is from Earth. Two gods, one battle prodigy, a super namekian, a demon once considered the most powerful being in the universe, two powerful cybernetic humans and humans who achieved peak of human capabilities. All of those are on earth. And trust me, if Beerus had anyone on his mind he'd have picked an actual powerhouse, not a space mailman meant to deceive Goku and Vegeta during U6 and U7 tournament.

I want diversity in my fighting roster and Tenshinhan and Master Roshi have some of the most unique fighting styles. Do we really need Kid Trunks in the team when we just had an entire arc that was literally an over glorification of his Future timeline self? Kid Trunks is nowhere near interesting as Future Trunks and the same goes for Goten. Both Goten and Kid Trunks have no history of fighting an opponent one on one outside of their match against each other in the World Tournament unless you count when they disguised themselves as Mighty Mask to fight Android 18. The only thing interesting about the two is that they're set pieces to create Gotenks who is a much more interesting character.

The thing about Roshi is his experience as a fighter. He may have the most of all except Piccolo. Buu relies more on his own abilities.
Sure he quit fighting in DB bit since then the figthers learned trainingmethoda that raised their power up to much higher levels, even human ones.
His Age doesnt really matter since he is nigh immortal and still fit if he wants.
Give him good training and you have a Krillin or Yamcha level fighter with a whole lot of experience.

I think everyone's forgetting someone that could've been a potential asset to the team. Someone with Cell-level strength but none of the evilness. Someone who also has a super useful ability that can overcome stronger warriors.

Everyone's been asking for these characters to be relevant in battle again and when it happens it's a problem all of a sudden... I don't think they'd include characters like Roshi and Krillin in something this big without giving them opponents they can handle or even powering them up, especially since they've been out the fighting scene for a while. Tien has been living and breathing fighting, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he's as strong as Android 16 at the least by now.

I hope this tournament is more than a tenkaichi boudekai type tournament. I'm hoping for more of a hunger games type thing where they're put on a planet and told to survive. That's why they picked that lineup, they all know each other and have worked together before.
Cell would be by far the most likely of all villains to participate this tournament willingly. He didn't even hate Goku and his main goal was to fight powerful opponents after all.
well, he will appear in 2-3 episodes, even if I don't know if anyone would trust cell to join in the tournament. He cause many suffering even if that wasn't his full intentions.
Kanzentai Seru It's a shame. Despite being a super genius Cell never seemed to realize his tenancy for bloodshed was from Freeza and that he could accomplish far more using his immense power for good rather than distruction. He could have easily became what Frost was in his Universe.

Roshi is probably the only person that makes sense to replace, but I think he's there more for support and guidance (like how he helped Krillin when fighting the freeza soldiers). In the end, really strong line up when comparing these guys to Namek saga freeza who was supposed to be like the strongest in the universe.

"Krillan is the strongest human." Isn't Tien the strongest human? Or does his third eye make him technically inhuman? I admit I'm not the most avid Dragon Ball fan, but I always thought that when you excluded the Saiyans (full or half) and Piccolo from the standard Z warrior lineup, Tien would be the most powerful character.
Well turn out Tien is only half human and I think he did say he's a descendant of a hybrid alien race, so amongst traditional earthlings and humans Krillin is the strongest since Tien technically isn't human.
If you go by the manga, Tien's third eye was recieved through enlightenment, and never mentioned anything about him being an alien. Besides even if he was a descendant of an alien race, he wouldn't be "half" human

Though if hesnis still human its still weird that Krillen would still be stronger than Tein when by Buu saga Krillen quit training while Tien never stopped. Unless its some of that backwards Gohan power scaling crap then its another inconsistency to add to the list.
Hey man, I never said anything about what makes sense xD we are talking about a show where people can shoot energy blasts from their bare hands, and can survive exposure to lava. In that kind of universe, it seems completely possible for humans to gain a third eye through meditation. Im not gonna get involved in the whole Krillin vs. Tien thing, since I am a Krillin fanboy, and would be too biased. It makes sense fir Tien to be a bit stronger, but then again Toriyama said that Krillin is the strongest. It's pretty much a matter of opinion until we see some solid proof.

Because the reason for my list was fun. Bardock is overused in my opinion or, rather has been in the public eye more it feels. Raditz was used only once and in some of the more recent games his character is expanded upon making him far more interesting. (I think it was DB Fusions or Xenoverse 2.. or both?) Where Raditz is thrilled to be fighting along side Goku and that kind of character progression could turn into something more. To me, Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z and sometimes GT all have interesting characters that could benefit from a small one off or maybe more time in the spot light in Dragon Ball Super.
If I may get off topic, Masako, Were the other Gods Of Destruction or whoever is plotting against Goku, don't you think Goku could tell omniking if he was to find out, or if he already knows, and WOULD it be a smart choice? Sorry if there are any typos ^∆^'

plot twist: The dead warrior Torbie is belonging to a race that is the common ancestor to saiyans, Namekians, and Frost Demons which is why he looks like the hybrid cell. However cell's human genes are what keep him from looking like Torbie's race fully.

Yo, I had two decks back in the DBZ card game days. Lead with a Black King Kai deck... But my second deck was a Pikkon Nemakian deck. Can confirm he has a fanbase. :)
Edit: I'd happily replace Roshi with Pikkon (in part because I hate Roshi), but mostly I do love the supporting characters having a chance to come back. The only real criticism I have is that this would be a perfect chance to introduce some fresh U7 characters who are strong fighters (even if they didn't make the top 4/5 and hence weren't introduced in the first tournament). I love new characters and races in this universe/multiverse, and this has been a missed opportunity to see more. I will still watch the hell out of it, though, because that criticism I just levelled represents nothing akin to a dealbreaker.
Something I thought of, is "what if it's not a straight contest of strength"? 17 and 18 do have considerable experience in teamwork, possibly even programmed team maneuvers, and what Roshi lacks in raw power lately he more than makes up for in experience and worldliness. Roshi may play the perverted fool, but he's quite wise and devised very effective training methods that brought half the Z fighters up to and beyond his own level... plus who's to say he ever truly stopped training? His attitude in Dragon Ball, the whole Jackie Chun charade, seemed to imply he felt "stopping" was never an option even as he reached what seemed to be his own limit. This is especially true with how Super seems to be moving away from raw power jumps lately and has started to introduce characters with more gimmick styles and abilities that work in absolutes.
I REALLY can't see why Yamcha isn't there. Like, as much as people like to shit on him, he's literally in the top 15 strongest mortals in the universe (not counting Beerus, or Whis, or the kais).
Like, I know Master Roshi is at least in the top 1000 strongest in the universe, but Yamcha is younger, stronger, and has actually trained in the past decade. We never really get any cobfirmation that Roshi ever trained after Dragon Ball.

I doubt Yamcha even wants to fight. He might consider it if he was the only one they could count on, and they really needed it, but considering there's plenty of good choices for that spot there's no reason to put himself out there.
I'm guessing there will be some kinda good explanation for Roshi, but given the wealth of choices enthusiasm is going to count for something and Roshi seems set on fighting again lately.
Heaven knows Chiaotzu's power level these days, we've not exactly got a wealth of evidence to choose from. Considering that every time he fights, he dies, Tien might be getting a little overprotective.

All he ever cared about during DB was enjoying life and reading porn on the beach. He didn´t care about pushing his limits anymore and the only reason why he ever entered tournaments was to teach his students. I love Roshi but this isn´t how his character should be handled.
