  • ADORABLE - waltz
(George Marion, Jr. - Richard A. Whiting)
from the Fox Picture "Adorable" with Janet Gaynor and Henry Garat
    Leo Reisman and his Orchestra
    RCA-Victor 17-4000 A, 1933
    Note: please watch in High-Definition.
I don't remember where I got this picture record. Perhaps it was a gift.
According to information on the internet, RCA-Victor produced a series of picture records in the early 1930s (possibly only during 1933), with the picture laminated in clear plastic [!] into which the record grooves were pressed. Picture records were more expensive and the Depression made them unaffordable. The idea of putting an illustration on a record disc was revived in the 1940s more successfully.
The waltz, "Adorable", is from the 1933 movie, "Adorable," starring Janet Gaynor and Henry Garat. The story takes place in a mythical kingdom in central Europe and the movie begins with a "Servants' Ball" at a country inn. The two stars dance to the strains of the "Adorable" waltz. The complete film can be found on RUclips.
    "You're so completely adorable!
Is the way to your heart explorable?
Would you enjoy it at all if I
Try to qualify now as we dance?
    Answer your dancer, Adorable!
Will this night be divine or deplorable?
    You're so completely adorable!
Is there a chance of romance?"

    Dear Genia,
So pleased that you liked Adorable!
I wonder...am I the only one who has not heard of Hnery Garat?? I will have to watch the film all the way through!

    A little gem.
"Adorable" is the American version of "Princesse, à vos ordres" (1931). In this ovie, they were greats songs, but the American "Adorable" had its own songs. I think it's the only movie made by Henry Garat in Hollywood.
Very nice record to hear and see! Janet Gaynor is very beautifull.

Thanks for all the great information! That explains why the name Henry Garat was unfamiliar to me.

*****... whereas he was a big star in France in early '30s (he made a lot of musical movie at this time).
Again, your record is really great! The sound of these picture's record is not perfect, but it's a beautifull object

Vocal by Howard Phillips. This and the -B side ("My First Love to Last", a fox trot) were also available as a standard 10" record, Victor 24319.
