  • ROLLIN' STONE (Fox Trot)
(Carmen Lombardo - John Jacob Loeb)
Guy Lombardo and His Royal Canadians
    Vocal Chorus by Carmen Lombardo
    Decca 2835-B (66643), 1939.
    Please watch in high-definition (720p).
This song is on the flip side of "Faithful Forever", one of the three songs from the animated film, "Gulliver's Travels," that were recorded by Guy Lombardo. I don't know why one of the other songs from the movie was included on this 4th side, but "Rollin' Stone," with its catchy melody, is nonetheless an unexpected treat.
    "Rollin' Stone,
    Never gettin' anywhere.
    But you don't care!
It's so much nicer being on your own --- on your own!
    Rollin' Stone,
Bet you think its lots of fun
    To kiss and run,
And leave the one who loves you all alone --- all alone.
How I fell for all the things you said!
    Whatever was I thinking of?
    When I should have known
A rolling stone never gathers any love!
    Rollin' Stone,
Better start to count your days
    and mend your ways.
Or else you'll find you wind up all alone,
    Rollin' Stone!"

There was never a more perfect orchestra than this. I love the introduction to the vocal chorus. Dewey does the same thing here that he does on "How Do I Know It's Real?" from February 10th, 1942. Kenny Gardner sings that one. It's OK to steal from yourself :)
