    Note if you have a DPF then use C1 oil instead of A5.

    Hi Scott ,many thanks for posting your videos I really enjoy their content, but I would recommend that viewers check the specifications and grades of fluids for their own freelanders, for instance mine requires due to having dpf 5w30 acea C1 low saps engine oil .

    Not A5 engine oil if you have a DPF. 5W30 C1 for DPF cars.

      Yes, correct, as pointed out by a few viewers. Mine is non-DPF.

      Some batteries can be topped up with deionised water. I think mine is a gel filled battery, or something special due to stop/start feature.

    Hi Scott, can you recommend anything for unblocking washer washer nozzles. I've tried everything. Cheers!

    • @BeavisPits
      @BeavisPits  Год назад

      You could try a pin and then blast through with something like an air duster. Failing that, just replace them, they are not expensive to buy and quite easy to swap. Check that it is the jet though and not the pump.

    Hi Scott
    Last year my Freelander rear crankshaft oil seal developed a bad leak. The job was too much for me so I took the car to a local garage for repair. As you know the job involved removing the gearbox so it made good sense to replace the clutch and flywheel assembly at the same time. The garage did a great job not your usual 6 bolts out and two back in There was no evidence that the box had been removed a real top notch job. The repair was done in the summer of last year, everything was fine but as winter approached the gears got increasingly harder to select especially on frosty mornings. A sudden terrible thought sprung to mind I wonder if the garage has topped the gearbox oil up after finishing the job. I decided I’d better check this so after removing the gearbox level plug the oil level seemed to be fine but it appeared to be of a very thick consistency. I decided to drain the oil and on observation it was clear that heavy gear oil had been used. ( Grr ) I drained and refilled the box with the correct grade oil and suddenly to my relief my previous nice easy gear changing was restored. This just shows how important it is to use the correct grade oil at all times. That is a very important and informative video you have made there Scott and just shows how crucial it is to always use the correct oils. 👍👍

    Thanks Scott, very helpful. One question, you mentioned it’s important not to mix certain fluids, how do you know what fluids are already in your FL2 when to you need to just top up? Best wishes, Anthony

    • @BeavisPits
      @BeavisPits  Год назад

      Good question! The answer is you don’t. If you are unsure what fluid a previous owner has put in then best to drain and refill. With coolant and steering you should be able to tell from the colour. For brake fluid and oil it is more difficult.

      The syringe is a Laser branded item from EuroCarParts/Halfords, but similar general purpose syringes can be bought on ebay a lot cheaper

      No DPF on mine. Think that was fitted from 2013 on. DPF models may need different oil code.

    After the checking the part number on lr the 6 speed manual transmission oil seems to be a 75w fe, not a 75w/90 why did you opt for a different oil than spec, or is the same thing and I’m an idiot, or will it no really matter?

    • @BeavisPits
      @BeavisPits  8 месяцев назад

      75 is the cold viscosity so will be the same. I’ve not heard of 75W FE but you should check the hot viscosity. It needs to be 90. Haynes says 75w90. That is also what Halfords recommend.

      @@BeavisPits Just in case anyone else is reading this slightly confused this is a note to clarify things. For the manual gearbox pre-2011 models (like Scott's) the LR specification in Castrol MTF 97309. This is a 75w90 grade oil as is mentioned in the video. For post 2011 models the LR specification is Castrol BOT 350 M3. This is a 75w single grade oil. Clear as mud...or old gearbox oil 🤣

    Is it really only 1 litre for a manual gearbox? I have an SD4 auto and I cant seem to find straight forward information on what type and what quantity of auto gearbox to buy. Ranges from 1 litre to 7 litres (7 is dry fill so seems too much for a refill) and anything in between!

    • @BeavisPits
      @BeavisPits  11 месяцев назад

      1.9L for manual gearbox

    • @codenamenel
      @codenamenel 11 месяцев назад

      I was told with the auto you need special tools apparently, its got to be done at a specific temperature and its a height measurement of the oil level within the gearbox not a specific quantity

    Hello, I recently purchased a 2012 SD4 HSE. After buying the car, I immediately replaced it with Shell C3 5W30 engine oil. You put A5. Many Koreans say that C1 engine oil must be used, so I was curious about whether C3 engine oil would put a lot of strain on the engine, so I searched and came across this video. Wouldn't it be a big problem if I put C3 or A5 in it?

    • @BeavisPits
      @BeavisPits  Год назад

      All FL2s are 5W30, but later models with DPF may need a different oil code. Mine is pre-DPF so uses A5. Later may be C3, I’m not sure. I’m sure it would be fine to use C3 in an older engine. The code is to do with smoke emissions not the lubrication properties.
