I added 16GB RAM (8 already on MB) and a 2.5 Intel SSD to this laptop. A couple things not captured by this video: 1) As you remove the screws on the back, the one to the lower left when viewing the "VOSTRO" logo right side up, seems to be some odd kind of security screw(?) designed to get stripped on the way out. I've removed many laptop screws...something odd was going on here. It's like they put some kind of special metallic cement on it. You have to turn it really hard, and then it gets stuck, clicking instead of loosening. Not sure if there is a trick to getting it off but I just kept working it, sometimes applying side pressure, and eventually I got it out. But the screw was destroyed. 2) There is a piece of copper foil tape attached to a wire: it appeared to be attached to the battery, but that was just a fluke that happened with I was taking the rear cover off. But I googled the part number, and it is the wireless antenna! I THINK it's supposed to attach to strip of mesh screen to the right of the battery,on the cover...thus creating electrical contact between the entire rear cover and the antenna. I will see later if I get good wireless. I mostly run ethernet at home.
overall nice laptop, the display is really sharp looking...but of course I'm coming from a mid range Asus laptop from 2013. It is noisy when it has to go into "I'm thinking hard" mode...as the review noted. Very solidly built and a good cyber monday deal for me.
Hey, I ordered this laptop but I still have some doubts. I read that the screen only covers 54% of sRGB. Do you notice the lower colour gamut? Also, does it come with both a backlit keyboard and fingerprint sensor? They made me choose one of the two at checkout, but I saw a model with both. And one last question: did you notice any thermal throttling during intensive tasks? Thanks
have not had a chance to use it much and won't be able to migrate over from my old laptop for a week or two..seems fast enough for basic web browsing, youtube videos, etc. I got the backlit keyboard, not the sensor. And UHD graphics because I'm not a gamer.

Hello! In my country the laptop comes with no soldered SODIMM. Can I weld one 8GB? Nice video! I'm thinking about open it and install a 2TB 2.5"SSD and upgrade capacity. If it´s possible to weld one of 8GB is better than buy a 16GB one. Another doubt is about the flat cable to connect the SSD! Where can I buy the right model? Thanks a lot guys!
The Brazilian version of this laptop sucks. Dell does not respect brazilian consumers, removed the 8GB memory soldered on the board, and as this poop only comes with 1 DIMM slot it is not possible to use it with more than 16GB of RAM. Shit!
yes I put one in. the SATA to mobo cable is a little tricky but I've dealt with them before. You flip up the white cover, insert, and close it back down. The label side of the SSD should be downward facing so that the existing fold in the connector can lie flat under the battery.

One more thing, is the MX250 the 10W or 25W variant?

Where is the SATA 2.5 HDD connecting cable in this? I think it's missing in this one!!!
Mine was under the included hdd caddy. Just unscrew it and it should be under beneath.
@@AgressiveHouse Ya, got it, fitted with 2TB HDD, Happy with the storage option which is not available on Inspiron 5490, Thanks!
@@surendarravichandran1219 any chance you could point where I connect the ribbon on the 2.5" connector?
The laptop has: 1 DIMM available, 2 DIMMS available or 1 soldered + 1 DIMM available? And is possible replace/upgrade the WLAN card?
1 onboard + 1 available
why did you skip the most important part? How was the back cover removed. it seems, its stuck on even after screws were removed.
You need to pry it with a pry tool or credit card or something
how about soldered memory get broken? can I switch to DIMM 1 Slot?
Is it really noisy?? I need it for office and web browsing... but I love the design
for doing basic tasks is not noisy but if you open some games and the fan kicks in is VERY noisy
my verdict on this: nice laptop, solidly built, good performance and expandability, but it's noisy!
Salmagundiii undervolt and disable turbo boost I Solved like this
Can i get dual channel?
What is that laptop cas latency ? I think cl 15 is correct?
And I'll upgrade ram
what ram can i install on my vostro 5490?
People said that vostrol 5490 has integrated battery, it’s weird
So it does support 2.5 inch HDD in this model. Is that correct?
the review says so but I wish this video had narrative, even if it were a robot voice...
The service manual says it is supported, if there is a video showing it will be helpful

@@Salmagundiii can we replace SSD with 1tb or higher? what is the maximum RAM replaceable? Can we replace the wirless card with wifi 6?
Is the LCD display shiny or opaque?
opaque
Does it use DIMM or SODIMM RAM? And can I run dual channel with 8gb ram on-board+16gb external ram?
I used Samsung 16GB DDR4 PC4-21300, 2666MHZ, 260 PIN SODIMM, 1.2V, CL 19 laptop ram memory module
DIMM is for desktop, SODIMM will be for laptop.
What 2.5 HDD thickness can be used? My 2.5 HDD did not fit inside because there are different sizes of 2.5 HDDs.
Is this model comes with backlit keyboard by default?
yes
1 ram slot is rly annoying 😔
maximum ram can go 32GB can?
MAX to 24GB. It has 8GB onboard, and one slot to upgrade. You can add 16GB offboard... 8GB (onboard) + 16GB (max offboard) = 24GB
So you can turn a screwdriver, awesome!
I opened my up and found no ram. What kind of thing is this?!
It has 8GB onboard... You can use the extra slot to add 16GB max. Totaly can be24GB.
Is not a NVME M.2? WTF DELL!! Is it plastic? argh!! I need to buy the flat cable to add a SSD?
No good
