  • A local gravel pit delivered 44 ton of stone that we used as a base for our fire pit area and parking. It turned out real nice!

      @@LeeintheWoods I too follow "the captain". I love to see what people are doing to improve raw land to make it usable for their purposes. In the past, I have done some land improvement. I'd like to caution you that you need to protect your feet and ankles. I used to just slip on my Uggs boots and get outside working in the garden, mowing and tending my flock of chickens and ducks. Uneven ground is your enemy. First I stressed my ankles, then began over stretching them and finally I tore my Achilles tendon. That will lay you up for a good long while. I didn't realize that I was causing damage until the damage was done. Please be careful and keep up the videos. I really enjoyed this and the others that I watched after. Have a good day and God bless.

      @@LeeintheWoods.
      You build yourself a compactor roller with one of those blue barrels that replaced 55 gallon metal ones.
      Cut perfectly aligned holes in the top and bottom then run a galvenized pipe thru it with a properly sized bearing on each end bolted in place with flanges at least 3 times the diameter of the pipe.
      Put a flush valve in the top you can fill it with water.
      Then just build a yoke to attach it to your tractor to pull it behind and you can really compact dirt and gravel.
      A friend of mine did it.
      Works awesome and it works great. He did install seals on both sides of the bearings as well.
      He used a friend's hydraulic press to make the 2 bearing mount flange cups that are on the outside of the bearings with the one against the barrel round cut washer flanges inside and outside of the hole.
      He's had it for over 20 years and only had to change the bearings once.
      He used heavy duty equipment Timkin bearings with grease fittings on the outer cup flange.

    Hi Lee. What type of stone is that? The color looks more natural. Most I have ordered has been grey and slight tan, grey blue stone. That will pack like concrete with the dust in it. Thanks.

    • @LeeintheWoods
      @LeeintheWoods  2 года назад +2

      I can't remember exactly what they called it. Bank run or something like that. That tan color you're seeing is a bit of clay. It really helps it bond in. Once it's packed in and rained on a few times it goes back to a gray color. Besides the clay, it's everything from sand up to a 1 inch stone. Eventually I'll just get some plain crushed stone to top it off.

    • @SteveAddis
      @SteveAddis 2 года назад +1

      @@LeeintheWoods We have 53s mixed lime and stone like that. When water is added packs solid. In the flat areas, I will put 4's or 6's to cover it because it tends to grow weeds in time, yet minimal. It washes like you said and turn white. Nice.

    • @LeeintheWoods
      @LeeintheWoods  2 года назад +1

      I get weeds in mine too. This summer should be some crushed stone and a deck under the building so lots to do along with typical maintenance of the place.
